So much going on I will just combine some thoughts.
First, the deadline for the Denise Terrill tournament is TOMORROW. The sign ups have jumped us this week but I hope more of you can get registered to make these draws even bigger. I look forward to seeing some of you at the tourney next weekend.
Also the USTA Fall League starts the weekend of September 6-7 with the playoffs slated for November 21-23. This is a change from previous fall season where we played up until Thanksgiving and had the playoffs the first week of December. Unless my math is bad there are 11 possible weekends and no holidays in there so hopefully we get plenty of scheduled matches for this fall season. Deadline for signing up a minimum of 8 players is AUGUST 10th. Please sign up in time and don’t stress out your team captain.
I know there is a combo tourney going on as well but that is just overkill, YIKES too much tennis too little time.
OC BL has started a tennis forum for players in search of teams and teams in search of players. I know some of you were bumped up or bumped down recently and if you no longer have a team I am sure there is someone who needs you. I know I still need some players for the two 4.0 teams I am coordinating. So check out the link to the RIGHT >>>>.
Thanks to OC BL for setting up our first challenge ladder tournament as well which gets underway Monday. We have a 32 player draw and some great matchups. Next time you see OC BL, Klameckopolis or whatever he might be going by that day please thank him for all the work he does to keep us entertained. He truly is Jason (wunderkind) Garrett and I am kind of like Wade (Big Doofus) Phillips. I hope combined we can provide you with all your tennis needs.
There are several good reasons to come to the Beaumont Labor Day Tournament
ReplyDelete1.It is the only tournament in the state that I know of that offers prize money to winners. In the Open Division, Men and Woman Open Winners take $500.00 and second place takes $250.00. In the lower levels, the money is smaller but hey, it is better than a plastic tennis trophy
2. Beaumont Labor Day starts on Saturday, you won't have to miss work on Friday
3. Traffic is not near as bad as Austin and the locations are not nearly as spread out
4. If you lose the first day, the casinos and the beach are nearby
So come on over to Beaumont and play some tennis and save Austin for the Courtyard Classic

If you are signed up for ladder are you automatically in the tournament?
ReplyDeleteIf you are signed up for ladder are you automatically in the tournament?
ReplyDeletethanks for the Beaumount info sounds fun. I would like to skip the tennis and go straight to the beach and casino, sign me up for that.
ReplyDeleteYep if you are on the ladder you are in the tourney. If you can't make it please let your opponent know.
Jason and I are playing at 6:30a on Tuesday morning. Can you say COFFEEEEEE! I am going to buy some super energy drink this weekend to get ready for that, after that Curren is on my hit list. Can you hear that??? That is some Lucky Thunder!!!!
...or could be just gas from the mexican food I had for lunch.
6:30am WTF?
ReplyDeleteYou do know this is supposed to be for "Fun".
JUST TO LET ALL YOU HIGH AND MIGHTY DALLAS TENNIS STARS KNOW. LOOKS LIKE MOST OF YA'LL ARE BUSY WITH LOCAL TENNIS BUT THE BEAUMONT LABOR DAY TOURNAMENT IS COMING UP, DEADLINE IS TUESDAY AUGUST 19. COME ON DOWN IF YOU CAN HANDLE THE HUMIDITY. IT MAY NOT BE A MAJOR ZONE BUT IS STILL A 200 POINT TOURNY AND SHOULD BE A GOOD TUNE UP FOR SECTIONALS. AND IT'S JUST A SHORT DRIVE DOWN I 45.

Wow, the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce are out in force today,
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing short about 283 miles.
blog road trip???
ReplyDeleteIf I am not mistaken, the Village has a tournament where $ are given
ReplyDeleteGuys,
ReplyDeleteLets go to Beaumont Labor Day Tournament. Mike is promising a great time.
Enrique
Yes, but who wants to play any of the Village tournaments?
ReplyDeleteYes there are actually several tournaments that offer prize money in Texas. I've never been to Beaumont but 283 miles is as far as San Antonio.
ReplyDeleteNo thanks.
Because of the high cost of gas, I'm trying to get people down here (BEAUMONT) to open up their homes to allow regular tourny. players a place to stay, instead of having to pay for a hotel. If that is something tournament palyers are intrested in. AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT MIKE GETZ IS BULDING A NEW ADDITION ON TO HIS HOUSE SO IF YOU GET ON TO HIM MAYBE HE WILL FORCE HIS CONTRACTOR TO HURRY UP AND FINISH!! AND HE HAS A TENNIS COURT AND A POOL!! PERFECT FOR WARMING UP AND COOLING OFF!!! JUST CALL HOTEL GETZ IT'S A PRETTY NICE PLACE!
ReplyDeleteI KNOW HE READS THIS SO I HAD TO DO THAT...
SHAMUS
when are the money tourneys at the village?
ReplyDeleteThe money tourneys at the Village was 7/18/08.
ReplyDeletethe money tourney's arent a lot of money... its a few bucks. so don't get too excited.
ReplyDeleteIt's based on $10.00 per person in the draw, right?
ReplyDeleteBased upon the draw, so, if you got 20 of your buddies to play in it. Winner takes all, or 1st and 2nd. He is pretty open to doing it however you want to do it.
ReplyDeleteAnd they have a keg. Damn, what was I thinking? is this Sep 6th for money??
This could be fun, if we could get a lot of guys out there. Beer Drinking, Good Tennis, Bragging rights, its not in addition to the entry fee, but simply comes out of the entry fee.... and if you get your opponets too drunk to play well..... well I guess that was their own damn fault, right?
Okay, I am in at 4.0 with a partner TBD later. (I already asked Brandon Myers). I sent an email to Steve Franklin already to see if this is the one for the $10 person or not.
wtf? Noaman, Forrest and harrigan.
ReplyDeleteI need to get to consolation and fast. oh well I can chill and just watch some tennis.
YIKES! Sorry, I dint read all the previous blogs before I wrote!
ReplyDeleteShamus, your does sound fun, BUT that said, 283 miles is awful far for us local folk who will never travel
Cary:
ReplyDeleteWhat are you referring to when you say Noaman, Forrest and Harrigan?
sorry I didn't clarify I was referring to the entries for next weekend's tourney at BHCC.
ReplyDeleteThere were some good names that registered in the last few days.
I am exicted to play but yikes this heat is going to force me to play a little differently.
When will the results of appeals on rating bump ups be known? Is there a site where we can see the results?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of tourney/league deadlines, sectionals and ladder tourney starting.....how is Eddie doing today?
ReplyDeleteno msr's are wierd that way he all still have listed our old ratings and will till the end of years come out. Everyone gets their letter separately, but I have a good feeling about my two that were sent.
ReplyDeleteI had shoulder surgery on Monday. 5 screws with the rotator cuff and labrum reatached to the bone. 4-6 months of rehab. The first 3 days were bad, but feeling ok now. Will start rehab on Monday. In a arm sling for 6 weeks. I am hoping to do a great job in rehab and be back playing in 3.5-4 months. I will work my ass off to be playing by Nov 15th. I hate that I will miss the blog tourney, but glad the surgery is over so I can get better. Eddie
ReplyDeleteI did see Eddie and his new accesory, it might be a fake though. I saw him taking a private lesson at LBH. jk :)
ReplyDeleteDon't come back too soon Eddie, I know too many people that have reinjured serious things like that.
Corey can attest to one of them, our mixed doubles captain hurt her knee right before the season started and sat out the entire season and in the last match she played because she had hit that recovery time deadline set forth and she split step and Boom, crash, bang she was down in a heap and reinjured her surgically repaired knee.
Don't worry.. That surgery and anthestia was TERRIBLE. I never want to go through that again. I will work my ass off within the the Dr.'s guidelines just like I did to get back in time for playoffs. My body heals fast and I will make sure the rest of my body is in great shape to promote the healing process. I can't wait to get back because we have a team that should get to sectionals, but I will make sure that I take care of my body in the process. eddie
ReplyDeleteSo are we getting draws today or what?
ReplyDeleteSeriously. It's already 9. I've been waiting all day.
ReplyDeleteVillage tourney over holiday weekend is NOT a money tourney. in fact, only a kidz tourney. wish i knew how to read. maybe someday

ReplyDeleteWhat's the fall league format for Dallas this year? Is it 2S/3D? Just noticed FW is only 1S/3D.
ReplyDeleteours is 2s/3d. Are you going to play the FW league Vik. I might run into I may be joining the Goldfield team if they need an extra body.
ReplyDeleteI might be inclined to play Dallas. I need to think about it. FW is a little less driving but I'd probably have to play mostly dubs.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Dallas is a little more competitive in the Fall too. Not many people play fall in FW by the looks of prior years.
Beaumont is looking for more open players. If you win the men's open division you will get to play doubles with Marty Fish and Robby Generpi down here. If you go to the USTA Texas section you'll get more info on that.
ReplyDeleteShamus
How many of you play in leagues such as Flex and Ultimate Tennis? I have tried Flex a few times and it is hit and miss as for consistent competition at the 4.0 level. Do any of you have recommendations for or comments on these types of leagues?
