Ok so only some of you are that excited since the majority of us are not playing this weekend but I hope you all can get out and see a match this weekend and if nothing else try and make it out to the finals on Sunday. The semis for 4.0 are at 7 AM (hello SBUX) @ LBH and 4.5 semis are at 9 AM @ Brookhaven
4.0 Finals: 12:30 PM @ Brookhaven
4.5 Finals: 1 PM @ Brookhaven
Unfortunately another team has pulled out of the 4.5 draw. The Valley team due to personal reason and lack of players had to pull out last minute and the rumor is another FW team will advance in their place. That means I won’t get to see Alfonso Rodriguez play I was looking forward to seeing how he would stack up in sectional league play but there is still some good players to see in action this weekend.
I know we have said many times we would cheer on Dallas teams and secretly to ourselves wished they would get swept out of flight play. But remember if any of our teams advance to nationals they have to “move up together or split up” so....... Go Springpark! Go High Point!
Even AR Hacker might hope this is the year that Branch’s team can win sectionals and have to break up this team. Also if they are busy booking flights to Nationals one of us can win the fall league and secure our playoff spot for next year.
Best of luck to the four teams and you 5.0+ players as well!!!
I will see you this weekend and post results and thoughts as you know them. I will post via comment here all weekend and maybe start a Sunday thread if warranted if some of our teams are still in it by then.
Didn't see this thread before I posted in the others.
ReplyDelete4.5 predictions
Pool I: Houston
Pool II: NOHO
Pool III: Dallas
Wild Card: Wild Dallas
Houston defeats Wild Dallas 4-1
Noho defeats Dallas 3-2
Noho defeats Houston 3-2
4.0 predictions
Kudos to whomever did the 4.0 pool rankings. I agree with the majority of your picks. Abilene as a sleeper is a good pick although I probably should stop there because of my new allegiance to Abilene. I do think SP and Houston are better but Abilene could surprise someone if lineups went in their favor. In pool II rumor has it that Amarillo has some young kids that can make some noise but Austin should be too tough but they may surprise Wild Houston. Pool III is little of an enigma to me as San Antonio always brings a good team and the NETX 4.0s were successful at Tri-Level and Austin always has talent. Pool IV is all HP all the time. They seem to be in form and have properly placed themselves in the proper section to make a run.
So here are my picks
Pool 1: Houston (especially if Gene and Mitch do play doubles but good luck Jim as I love to see Freeman sweat and he certainly won't do that this weekend on the court)
Pool 2: Austin
Pool 3: San Antonio (least confident about this one but going with a hunch)
Pool 4: HP
Houston takes down Austin 3-2
HP takes down San Antonio 4-1
In a repeat final from last year Houston takes out HP 4-1 with the 5.0s Brouer and Robinson taking the one line.
I would like however to see SP, Austin or HP prove me wrong and take Freeman down because otherwise he may not be able to get his head into the wide brimmed hat. Hopefully I'll be able to catch some of the 4.0 action this weekend and possibly meet some of you in person.
Good luck to everyone
Goodluck to both 4.0 Dallas teams this weekend. I hope SP will be there to watch and cheer for HP in the finals.
ReplyDeleteHP, I thibk we'll be there, but I'll be cheering for our guys. Hope you are, too. SP
ReplyDeleteBrouer is no 5.0 are you kidding me? Average 4.5 perhaps at best. Freeman has nothing but 4.5 and above players watch out for Pritula and Martinez.
ReplyDeleteshould see you tomorrow at Greenhill Jason. I will be there from 11:30a-1:30p. I am taking a long lunch for a "doctor's appt" from work.
ReplyDeletesee you all then
Report Report Report - Lawrence Chan will not be at sectionals for Ft.Worth.
ReplyDeletePlease confirm or deny. Have heard that he is in Washington with business and can not make it.
Word on the street is that AR Hacker now wants to secretly join Branch's 4.5 team in the fall. He want's to be the lone 50 mile exception.
ReplyDeleteHe would need to submit a written apology to the team, bring Rusty towels during match play at sectionals, and most importantly -agree to wash the great D-RAZE's car for one year.
Let me know mr. ar hacker and i can help broker the deal.
yes I was kidding you.
ReplyDeleteI would rather wade naked through the Trinity River than play on Branch's team. I would be willing to join the royal Oaks team however.
ReplyDelete;)
4.5 picks
ReplyDeleteI: Houston
II: NOHO
III: Dallas
Wild Card: San Antonio
NOHO to nationals.
5.0s brouer and robinson just bit the dust vs noho, wanna rerate?
ReplyDeletethank god there are no DQ's at Sectionals this year as Davis just put a Double-Bagel on Abilene.
ReplyDeletefirst result in Springpark 4-1 over Abilene pretty routinely. Mcgowan sits out but as noted from Jason Gene Davis throws down a double bagel. So apparently Gene is tuned in and will be mowing people down this weekend if as also noted the DQ counter is turned off.
ReplyDeletewaiting on that HP score, I am worried for some reason that Noho team seemed mysterious. I hope that bad feeling I am getting doesn't come true.
"Amarillo this morning" they swept SETX. Not sure if that is a big deal but Amarillo is a player for sure. NETX squeaks one out over CC. I like the top players on NETX but don't think they can keep up winning 3-2 the whole way.
ReplyDeletestill no HP score. I am getting nervous. It's taking too long.......................
might have to wait on FTW/San angelo and WC Dallas/NOHO since they are being played at Greenhill, while the other 3 matches were at LB Houston, which is typically the HQ for Sectionls.
ReplyDeletehp won 3-2, swept singles, barely and hai/jean won doubles
ReplyDeleteBTW the Texas Section has a link to the 3 main blogs with some funny comments.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.texas.usta.com/usaleaguetennis/custom.sps?iType=1013&icustompageid=23845
HP squeaks by NOHO with Pickett beating the supposed ringer of 4.0 Peter Razeghi in 3 sets.
ReplyDeleteAslo FTW defeated San angelo 3-2
I know I am apt to have player/man crushes but icepick is awesome and he proved it again. He is just too hard to attack and has a smooth serve and forehand combination and his reach is amazing and he is fast. Should I continue...
ReplyDeleteI am guessing they will fix the score to show Jean and not Bin playing, unless Bin played.
who would have thought HP would lose 2 of 3 doubles matches and at all this weekend and then also win the match.
I am headed out to see their match with FW. should be good.
Sleeper alert?
ReplyDeleteWaco thumps SA 4-1 in 4.5
Eh, make that Waco thumps CC
ReplyDeleteOk saw Waco beat CC, but I am extremely pissed at USTA Texas Section for not following the guidelines set in place and allowing Maingot to play. Might as well not even have guidelines and just let D1 players play 4.5.
ReplyDeleteHouston snuck by WC Dallas 3-2 with a 2 tight doubles matches and Dibua beating Molina.
Makes the Waco/ WC Dallas match very interesting.
yep AR Hacker's friend Andrew Maingot got the only win and barely.
ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks just missed beating Houston, hopefully they can get in as the 2nd place team since they did get two wins.
Come on RO!!!
Kingwood looks to be a big fav and Dibua put in a solid score over Joey
Did not realize Waco as so good will make this group interesting. Foster was a former 5.0 and snyder sounds familar from juniors, believe he may have been a Super-Champ.
ReplyDelete4.5 Dallas v Ft. Worth result?
ReplyDeleteThey actually changed schedule and have WC Austin v. Dallas and FTW v. Abilene as first matches.
ReplyDeleteDallas v. FTW is scheduled for 1 PM, but they still have not updated 8:30 matches from Greenhill, which is very frustrating.
when I left HP had won 3 lines. keller and j. nguyen at single and Voss/Newman at dubs. Pickett/Smith won the 1st and might be headed to a 2nd set tb, keith and Hai won the first as well.
ReplyDeleteSo HP looks like they got the two tough matches out of the way I didn't see much in the way of roadblocks in the valley and san angelo teams.
Should be a easy going Saturday for them.
I saw James and Stone in the lineup for branch's team. Stone is very solid but whoever James is playing looks to be too strong for him. If Brent pulls that out, good for him.
heard off the Austin board that WC Austin won both singles. Wonder if Brent played Juan DeKruyff who is a tough cookie.
ReplyDeleteDallas won 3-2 though.
4.0 Men...Austin vs Wild Houston...Houston SQUEAKS out a win!
ReplyDeleteSP won 4-1, Davis rolls, Mitch lost in straights.
ReplyDeleteapparently FTW was upset by Abilene 3-2 this morning. Would be curious for any updates since the matches were scheduled for 8:30 and still no updates.
ReplyDeletefinally they are posting more 4.5 matches.
ReplyDeleteJames lost to Marcos Valdez
Branch lost to DeKruyff
Slezak/Williams rolled.
Nice comeback win for Dallas, curious on the match results on who finished 1st, 2nd, etc.. Surprised to see DeKruyff defeated Branch.
In FTW/Abilene match, looks like a great match clinching win by Kern over Justin Huffman. Terefe beat Cherry in 3rd TB.
ReplyDeleteI can't see Slezak and Williams losing ever. I thought Marco Valdez was a top level open player, or maybe it's just the same name. I'm not surprised by the Royal Oaks result.
ReplyDeletePretty impressive to beat Huffman. Guess that confirms that Chan didn't make the trip.
ReplyDeleteMildly surprised at the team win. Didn't know if there was enough depth there.
Looks like Group III is the group of death.
looks like gene davis is not planning on going to tuscon even if his team makes it.
ReplyDeletethey arent running dq's between matches at sectionals but they will before natls.
Corey I think Valdez is an Open Level Player, believe he was a 1-2 yrs behind me but he was a very good SuperChamp and looking at his past results he should be a 5.0 easily but he sat out the 3 years and here is again for now at least.
ReplyDeleteOf note talk about close matches 5 of the 6 matches reported today went 3-2, only Waco beating CC was not, 4-1.
ReplyDeleteMarcos Valdez, not to be confused w/ Marco Valdez from SA (the one that always plays Open tourneys)
ReplyDeleteMarcos is who we are talking about he is originally from Midland (from Juniors) and he was a very good player.
ReplyDeleteAbilene beat Austin, last match was still on with Austin up so probably 3-2, maybe 4-1
ReplyDeleteDallas beat FTW 5-0
Waco 4.5, did anyone see this one coming?
ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks has a chance to get back in this flight and at least fight houston for the 2nd place spot.
ReplyDeleteSnyder was a pretty high ranked super champ not too long ago he will be difficult to beat in 4.5.
ReplyDeleteWC Dallas destiny rests in their hands. If they win they are in and if it is 3-2 then Waco would be the #2nd Place team for SF.
ReplyDeleteShowdown in Group #2 with NOHO/WC FTW, not to surprised about WC FTW they are a very good team, and what a beatdown they put on a solid Austin #1 Doubles Team.
Dallas has showdown with Abilene as well.
What is interesting if Dallas dives against Abilene, maybe 4-1 or 3-2, they become 2nd Place SF team, due to matches won and they skip NOHO who appears to be the favorite now with HOU hurting, to play Waco, while NOHO would face Abilene.
Surprised at Waco and Abilene though looks like the morning will be very interesting.
I am pulling for my boy Royal Oaks, so would love for them to win, their destiny is there if they win, unless Branch loses in the morning.
Is Brouer injured, or did he get benched? I see he didn't play in the 2nd match.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is Brouer and Robinson were rested the second match. Voss and Newman didn't play in the first match. HP almosted got upset by NOHO in the morning match. I would be surprised if Newman-Voss, Brouer-Robinson sit out anymore matches unless HP clinches their semi-final spot early.
ReplyDeleteI actually was thinking about Marco Valdez. I figure he is closer to 5.5 than 4.5. I've never heard of Marcos. Based on the two guys I saw at the Fort Worth Major Zone from Waco, I'm not surprised how they are doing.
ReplyDeleteDallas looks very tough. They put a beat down on FW and easily swept doubles against Austin. Royal Oaks singles must be strong as Branch's singles didn't look shabby. I can see them not wanting to let RO into the semis and avoid Noho in the semis (and I'm not just saying that because it may help my Abilene team). I have a feeling they will bring the wood tomorrow against Abilene though and set up a really good match between the Dallas teams if Wild Dallas gets the wild card. I think Branch has a chance to go all the way but do they want another match with RO in the semis. Anyways I'm leaning towards Branch making the finals however they go since my Houston pick faded fast. Lots of good tennis out there today. Wish I could have seen some of the other matches. I don't know how much different it was from last weekend but it felt REALLY hot out there today.
ReplyDeleteIn 4.0, although I'm sure they don't want me picking them since my record is slipping, HP is starting to make me a believer. Icepick played a really good match as I had written him off for dead as the guy was really moving him around the first set. However, he showed a lot of guts and pulled off a big win especially since the 5.0 doubles team fell. Jean looked good in singles as well. I really thought the lineups gave FW the chance to pull an upset in the second match but HP destroyed them. I haven't actually seen Freeman's team but they better be as advertised if they are going to take down HP. SP better have been playing possum today if they are going to take down Freeman tomorrow.
I got a fortunate win against a better player in the morning and then was carried in the second match by my dubs partner but it was a nice day personally. Not sure I'll be as fortunate tomorrow but it should be fun nonetheless. Good luck to everyone.
Looks to me like HP has clear sailing to the finals. As usual, Bob knows best. He dumped the city finals and avoided Houston. They are solid in singles and doubles. Houston and SP are the 2 best teams in 4.0 and HP may catch the winner a little tired in the finals. He just has to find a match up that has Keller win a singles and then split the other 4 lines.
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with the Houston team, but HP is better than SP. Gene is the only good player on that team. Looks like Mitch was highly overrated.
ReplyDeleteSpringpark cruises and HP squeaks one out 3-2 over Wild Valley.
ReplyDeleteSteven and Keith lose as does Dreskin in singles. They should be OK although a 5 or 4 win morning would have most likely clinched it for them. Luckily they have San Angelo left to play who is the bottom feeder in this flight. Looking back on that noho match that was a big win for them.
Springpark looked pretty solid with Gene crushing another opponent. I was looking at the records of the players he beat so far and I don't think he is DQ area none of these guys have great stats. Now if he manhandles one of Freeman's singles players then that is another story.
Lubbock? Did anyone see this happening. I am not sure what to think of them, they took out NETX who has a solid team and beat them pretty handily. Midland looked to be making a run to the top in their flight but lost this morning. Who will jump up there, maybe Wild Houston with Mr. Ismael "ugly strokes" Dutchover. I wouldn't mind seeing him match up with the winner of flight I.
Should be a good day, does anyone know if the Freeman v. Springpark match was moved to 3:30p, it says 4p on the sched. but online it says 3:30p, I guess I will just plan on leaving early.
3:30
ReplyDeleteHow good is Phat Bui? This guy continues to roll at #1 singles.
ReplyDeleteI saw Phat play in the city playoffs. He has a really solid ground game and looks to be in phenomenal shape. He doesn't look like he will blow anybody away with aces or winners but he is very consistent. Probably Royal Oaks' best player by far.
ReplyDeleteHP lost to San angelo 3-2 leaving door wide open if NOHO wins 4-1 or FTW wins 5-0
ReplyDeleteanyone know why Keller and Jean Nguyen didn't play??
ReplyDeleteSP beat Houston 4.0 today.
ReplyDeleteft worth slipped by HP so SP will be the only dallas semifinal team. Sorry Bob and team; was hoping we could see a Dallas final.
ReplyDeleteSP won the last 3 3rd set tie breakers after losing the first 2 lines everyone played with heart Houston put an incredible fight wow
ReplyDeleteuhhhhhhhhhhhh. Wtf? I just got back from the Springpark v. Captain February match and it was awesome. Lauren also enjoyed it. I feel credit should be served to Flight D for getting them ready by losing all those tiebreakers to them in the regular season because they won them today when it counted the most.
ReplyDeleteFTW pulls the upset in flight IV, I don't even know what to say about that, but it is unfortunate.
I guess it was my fault for calling San Angelo (my alma mater) bottom feeders instead they pulled off one of the great sectional upsets.
Congrats to them for putting out full effort unlike a certain who had hangovers and didn't make it to their matches today.
speaking of hangovers, it is miller high life time.
I can't make it tomorrow but I will be checking the computer or someone text or call me...
good luck to everyone
Looks like Bob tried to rest some people, and it backfired on him. This has to be one the worst screw ups I've seen a captain make. I guess his whole team can rest now.
ReplyDeleteACK ACK ACK! That's the sound of HP choking. There are no pushovers at sectionals. A good captain would know that. Now HP has plenty of time to rest.
ReplyDeleteI talked to Bob while watching the SP/Houston matches (which were unbelievable and the best two 4.0 teams banging at each other). He said both of the singles guys who played yesterday afternoon and this morning (including Keller) said they were cramping and pulled themselves out of the San Angelo match. Too bad for HP. They had a strong team but Brouer/Robinson and Pickett/Smith failing to get wins is what did them in.
ReplyDeleteThat team is done with so many moving to 4.5.
I had a feeling thier might be some Bob backlash but just remember a great team from Houston is also out of the tourney.
ReplyDeleteWe can't put this on Bob there were good players on the court and both sides and it was a bad break.
I wanted to see them do well but anyone who thinks there is a perfect way to run a team, think again. Bob does great work and that was truly a team effort. It is so easy to blame a captain but most of you know Bob rarely plays and puts in a lot of time.
Congrats on a good run and hopefully Springpark can keep the Dallas hopes alive.
And Go Branch as well, sorry AR Hacker but remember it is the only way someone else might emerge at 4.5 in Dallas, if we can get them to advance to nats.
agreed. anything can happen in 105 heat and on a given day in the sectionals. lots of good tennis players and teams. Bob does a good job; just things didnt work out. SP needs to carry the banner.
ReplyDeleterockettman
Okay. I'm relatively new to the blog. Just who is Rockettman?
ReplyDeleteHey Guys, Lets lay off on the critism of Bob. Its very tough to captain and manage players in 110 degree heat. Most people on this blog have been sitting on the couch while these teams have been battling out.
ReplyDeleteI thought the rain this week might help with the heat but this is definitely hotter than last year.
ReplyDeleteI guess I was paying so much attention to Houston and Dallas I didn't notice Austin rose to the top of Flight II.
This sets up a great matchup with Springpark in the morning. They will push each other big time, too bad Colin isn't here then it would really be interesting.
Lubbock v. FW: zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Ok I probably just jinxed it and either Lubbock or FW will win the whole thing but I just don't see it.
Kern tells me Noho is the fav in 4.5 especially if Wanja makes it down tomorrow and looking at his stats I can see why.
Should be some great semis tomorrow. I would love to come watch but I have two tennis practices tomorrow, I have to get used to this heat so I don't get embarassed in the tourney next weekend.
First I think Noho is the favorite ONLY if Wanja shows up, otherwise I think its anyone's ball game. It may be anyone's ball game anyways. I got my rookie 4.5 hazing today as I was taken to the woodshed. Chris and Walt are "sleazy" (I mean that as the highest compliment). They dismantled us today and may not have broken a sweat. Nice guys as well. Branch will be very tough tomorrow. If you want to know what 4.5 Sectionals talent looks like catch some of those matches tomorrow, it's eye opening.
ReplyDelete4.0 today was crazy. The SP/Houston match had to have been one of the best Sectionals matches in a long time. Gene was very impressive on his fourth match in two days in that heat (I would like to be as out of shape as everyone says he is). I can't believe how much SP's doubles have been undersold, they were tough. The two guys that played number 2 doubles had incredible hands. If today didn't take too much out of them they are going to be hard to beat and would represent Texas well at Nats in my opinion. Of course this is from the guy who's finalists are already out so I have no credibility (it usually takes people 10 minutes to figure that out).
I will never be a captain because of things like what happened to HP today. Whether it was people pulling out or trying to rest others it's a difficult pill to swallow when you know you didn't have your best team on the court (I remember from Nationals last year). I know I give HP a hard time but I really feel for them. Good luck to everyone tomorrow and maybe my FW 4.0s will shock the world, oh never mind, I have no idea what I'm talking about.
i dont think there is any criticism of bob. it WAS 105 out there.
ReplyDeleteIf you have been to sectionals before, then you know their ARE easy teams that you should walk through with a 2nd tier line up. The temp was too hot to play every match every time. kill someone for god's sake.
the 2nd tier didnt step up. Very unfortunate. HP was not as deep as they thought. tennis sectionals is a mental game.
same person here, but they had 3 lines that could have stepped up and won. one or all of them should have done it
ReplyDeleteWACO/NOHO will be intersting as Waco has escaped by with some great TB play. Matt Snyder versus Heim or Wanja will apparently show who the true ringer this year is. Snyder may help Waco get closer to National's but he probably has 1-2 strikes by now anbd if he beats Heim or Wanja that would be another.
ReplyDeleteDallas/Houston will be another. Wil Houston have any singles left if Dibua did reinjure himself? Maybe try to take the doubles but Dallas has not lost a doubles match yet at Sectionals.
Calling a NOHO/Dallas Final.
Now off to the courts for officiating the National 12s. Not sure how these little guys are surviving it is hot as hades.
I finally saw the famous Brouer/Robinson play yesterday. How are these guys winning tournaments? Brouer is the worst doubles player I have ever seen. I heard some people talking during the match, and they were saying he used to be a singles player. He looks like a singles player trying to play doubles. I'm gonna have to start playing tournaments. They must be really easy to win.
ReplyDeleteI think we might have built up a few players just by all the talking but the truth is most of the HP guys are legit 4.0 players and can be beaten on any given day.
ReplyDeleteHai was the only one who looked out of place this weekend playing 4.0, the rest of them probably she back at 4.0 because 4.5 will be tough for them.
Who were the two guys who played #2 doubs for SP that Kern is referring to? Heck, what was the SP lineup v. Houston? Curious. I tend to agree with the previous assessment of HP. I know I can hang with any of those guys. But the fact that no one took them out in the regular season and they made it this far, you have to give them credit. Just fell a tad short. But most of those guys are good dudes, and Bob is always a class act. Congrats on a solid season.
ReplyDeleteJust looked up the guys on tennislink, Sweeney and Wildberger. I'm not saying they were out of level, I was just saying they played very well yesterday and got a ton of reflex volleys back. I was impressed.
ReplyDeleteAlso if you think Brouer is the worst doubles player out there then you definitely need to be playing tournaments and more league matches. You'll wipe the floor in them. Steven and Keith are very good 4.0 players and will hold their own at 4.5. They had a tough weekend but it's hard to argue with their results over the year. I'm sure they would trade a couple major zones for wins this weekend but that's tennis.
FW was dismantled by Lubbock as I think yesterday's heat took too much out of them and I hear Dallas was winning but not finished.
Welcome to the club, Steven and Keith, from one guy that knows what it's like to terribly underperform when your team needs you.
ReplyDeleteDamn. I'm a horrible clutch player.
BTW, to the rest of y'all, Steven and Keith will do fine in 4.5
I just wanted to congradulate SP and Jim on their great run so far. The entire team showed tremendous heart and guts yesterday in coming from behind to win 4 consecutive tiebreakers 7-5, 10-7, 10-8 and 10-8.....very impressive. Although my guys are disappointed with the result they left it all out on the court, it was a classic.
ReplyDeleteHopefully Gene will have enough left in the tank to pull off his 6th match of the weekend.
Good luck Dallas!!!
To the jerks who keep writing that Lifetime are this and that, go back to the blog history and you will note they (for the most part) simply pumped up their team without saying others suck. I know I would never do that, especially high quality players that are on the HP team. Most of LTF completely supports HP unless we are playing them. Sort of like me supporting OU in non-conference games even though I'm a Longhorn. I have a ton of respect for HP and especially Bob for all he does for them without playing much. I saw guys battling heat and exhaustion the last two days and give everything they had. This isn't college or pro tennis so realize people are doing this in their spare time for fun. And of course, the dumbass who wrote that Brouer/Robinson are no good is definitely someone who is sitting at home watching thinking of the two or three good shots he hits in a match and believing he could hit them on every point when he played them. Those guys are losers in my mind who need to knock others down to make themselves feel better. Again, quality tennis players don't rag others, they respect them. There's also nothing wrong with promoting your team to try and give them confidence...the way most of LTF has done this season. I truly wish HP made it to Nationals. To Doug and Joel and all the guys, keep your heads up on a great season. I am sure your disappointment is no fun right now.
ReplyDeleteThat's my two cents. Now I'll go away and let the real douchbags write their idiotic stuff.
Wines
"Snyder may help Waco get closer to National's but he probably has 1-2 strikes by now anbd if he beats Heim or Wanja that would be another. "
ReplyDeleteI doubt Snyder is in any danger. Just b/c he beat Henry in a TB? I've played several of Waco guys in tourneys this year. They are all legit, strong 4.5 but not out of level.
Snyder won't win against NOHO they have several former and current division 1 college players, and almost all their players are at least 5.0.
ReplyDeleteDallas Branch has this to contend with. This is what passes for 4.5 in Houston.
ReplyDeletehttp://tulanegreenwave.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/heim_billy00.html
http://lamarcardinals.cstv.com/sports/m-tennis/mtt/wanja_david00.html
Springpark is into the finals. Looks like a good matchup although Lubbock looks like they didn't have a tough match in the AM still SP has to be the fav.
ReplyDelete4.5 Noho looks very strong and I hope Branch can pull it off, they may have to sweep dubs again because Wanja and Heim look very very very tough.
Wonder why Snyder did not play singles this morning? Probably cost Waco as NOHO has their two ringers out in force playing. Looks like NOHO will sweep the singles final and hope to get one doubles win over Houston.
ReplyDeleteIn his own words, Snyder was on death's doorstep this morning and couldn't play. Waco had no one to beat NOHO's singles, and knew it, and tanked both, throwing everything they had into the doubles. Probably the right strategy, but didn't work this time.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't have mattered if Snyder had played singles.
ReplyDeleteI've heard that Armstrong/Hulbert were terrific and they must be as they took down Slezak/Williams 6 and 3. If it lined up differently Branch may be in the finals. Very impressive win for Omon on an apparent significant knee injury but wasn't able to go in the finals. That may spell doom against Noho as they would almost certainly have to sweep the doubles now. I wonder if Dallas would have matched up better with Waco. I respect them for playing it straight up and we (Abilene) definitely wold have backed into the semis but I wonder if they would be in the final (they would still have to have beaten Noho to go to Nationals but it worked for Austin last year). My guess is Snyder didn't play singles because they didn't think he could take either of Noho's guys.
ReplyDeleteHopefully SP can last one more match and pull it off. To those that were ragging on Mitch for being a ringer, I believe he is 0-3 and hasn't won more than 3 games in a set. That's not a knock on Mitch as he will hopefully pull off the match that wins it all today but a comment on the level of tennis at 4.0 Sectionals. It's also a gauge for all those who called him a "ringer".
any results yet?
ReplyDeletegreat run SP. why didnt pearson or mitch play in the finals?
ReplyDeleteMitch = Overrated. He's good, but not Gene good. He's at a best a mid-level 4.5 player. His scores showed it this weekend. He got beat pretty bad at Sectionals.
ReplyDeleteHey guys.. we havent talked about Eddie in a few days. I woulda won all my matches .
ReplyDeleteI agree.
ReplyDeleteMitch - biggest hype that turned out to be a huge playoff bust.
I am sure Mitch didn't play because he lost every match at sectionals. Not sure why SP didn't play pearson..
