So there is a dearth of men’s tennis tonight, only the 3.5ers in action. It is ladies night at the DCC.
Only matches are Gleneagles v. OC. Should be a fairly easy win to start off the tourney for OC but don’t take the GECC lightly they have a few strong players.
The interesting matchup is the bad blood bowl between Garland and High Point. Can the 4.5 ringers Flora and Courtney carry the night over a doubles heavy High Point lineup? Gunfire in the background, grievances, Highland Park phenoms, 3.0 nationals champions, Rock Jock and Big John. Oh this might be more like a circus instead of a tennis match.
Someone call me when this one is done, I would love to know how it turns out. You have my number.
Action will ramp up tomorrow morning with numerous matches. I hope to make it down to the Royal Oaks v. OC/Branch match at Greenhill. I think that has the potential to be the best looking match of the weekend. So I am going to try and drag myself out of bed to see that one and then retreat back to my air conditioned home and check the computer every so often in between laps in the pool.
Best of luck to all you, even the sandbaggers (they need love to)!!!!!
I think tonights Garland v Highpoint match is more interesting than OC v Gleneagles. HP must have pissed off someone because their second match is againt Lifetime tomorrow morning. It couldn't happen to a better team. I think HP will be eliminated from contention by 3:00 tomorrow. I will not be saddened by it if Garland and Lifetime both beat them 5-0. I predict Garland 4-1 and Lifetime 3-2. Garland wins DCC, Lifetime 2nd, Oak Creek 3rd, HP 4th and Gleneagles brings up the rear.
ReplyDeleteCary has decided to take over the role of Don King.
ReplyDeleteI think the bad blood between High Point and Garland is terribly overstated. I sincerely like the players and people I have come to know from the Garland team. If we beat Garland then I will be ecstatic and wish Garland all the luck in the world and best of luck. If we lose, then I will wish them all the luck in the world and hope we get to play them again at Sectionals.
As for highpoint hater... I am sure Garland, Lifetime and Oak Creek appreciate your support.
HP talks nice on the blog and too your face, then behind your back bring out the blades.
ReplyDeleteI am sure the league office in Austin will get a few more unwarranted grievances from HP captain once season is over.
I can't believe I'm typing this, but I actually agree with Greg 100%. Big John's probably still mad at me for filing the grievance, but in my mind, we're both just doing what we can to give our team the best chance to win. And if anything, it helps John validate having Zack on his team.
ReplyDeleteAs for the bad blood, I didn't see or hear any during or after our first match. There were no heated exchanges, or arguments over line calls. Just good, clean tennis. I hope we can keep things civil tonight and throughout the weekend. The bottom line is we all play tennis to have fun and to try to bring out the best in ourselves - not for the trophies. Good luck to all of the teams. And I hope HP will meet one of you guys in the finals of the Sectionals.
Come on HP, a little trash talk never hurt anyone.
ReplyDeleteI pity the fool that mess with High Point.
Rematch will be a little more of the same.
John has 6 lineups and can't decide which to use.
John just filed a grievance against High Point in general for having superior courts and pro shop.
John will partner with Zack so he can finally get a win this season.
clay's serve ain't all it is cracked up to be, ok it is.
Ashley will school you a** tonight!
Flora will not drop a game tonight.
cars get broken into in hp's parking lot. how desirable is that.
ReplyDeleteHey Lucky,
ReplyDeleteYou left out a couple of dis's from the e-mail I sent you. What - did you think bringing John's mom into this was crossing the line?
no one would want to steal an 8 track player from a GTC patron's car.
ReplyDeleteCary, I can't believe you are not going to watch you beloved Lakes team vs LTF at 9am at LBH. A little nervous Eddie will bite you head off if LTF wins???
ReplyDeleteYeah Cary.
ReplyDeletewhat about the Lakes in the morning. if you want to join up to the club you need to bond with the team
rockettman
I propose a tagteam cage match between Sisk/Noel and Jameson/Wiley.
ReplyDeletesounds good maybe I can be the Lakes waterboy. I would have to cheer for team Eddie though in that one since they are the underdogs.
ReplyDeleteDriving to LBH does not interest me at all. Greenhill is the closest and I am lazy.
Does anyone else find this odd. After we play Garland I file the grievance on Zac - which was denied. He plays no league matches after that point and then ESR come out and he is bumped up. Do they consider him 4.0 or don't they. I call BS on this wishy washy stuff - they either think he is above level or they don't. Somebody DQ this kid - ok thats my last 2 cents on this obvious 4.5 superstar!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a High Point hater. But I really think they have no chance against Garland tonight.
ReplyDeleteI do not fault Jameson for filing a grievance. Zack Courtney is way out of level. A 4.5 level would be more apporpriate for both Courtney and Flora. When you put guys like that on your roster you should expect grievances to be filed.
Cary, come on it is about 8 mins further. Tough it out to see what should be the best match of the morning session. I just want to see what Eddie says to you if they walk off the court with a WIN.
ReplyDeleteBoth of those guys consistently lose to fellows on the 4.0 team. Please stop saying 4.5 superstars as it shows you have no idea what you are talking about. They might be top 5 on next seasons GTC 4.0 team - thats a big might.
ReplyDeleteWho says they will play for GTC? HP needs players now. I think Somabut is having a home visit with them now.
ReplyDeleteLOL -- If they cant make top 5 on GTC, why would Bob want them. Are they short on towel boys for the fall?
ReplyDeleteI really do not like our chances in that cage match.
ReplyDeleteCary, that 8 Track Comment was REALLY funny.
I really do not think that is Pat writing the stuff a few posts up. I will certainly ask him when I see him tonight but I suspect that one is fake. That is not Pat's style.
As for the non-High Point hater... We will still go out there and play. New England lost in the Superbowl so bigger obstacles have been overcome. If we get embarassed tonight, in the end this is really just 3.5 tennis. We are fighting to be Kings of the second crappiest tennis division in the metroplex. The sun will rise in the east and set in the west.
Greg, You're right - the last post attributed to me was definitely not from me.
ReplyDeleteThe real Pat Jameson
I have to agree about the 8-track comment! It would be very difficult for me to be favored over anybody in a cage match. But with John as a partner I like my chances. I don't think there is much bad blood between High Point and Garland. I met Greg about a month before they played each other and he was very friendly and John has had nothing but good things to say about them.
ReplyDeleteI admit the grievance was a surprise but I can't say I blame him. I actually agree with "Pat's" comment about Zac. Austin basically said Zac was a 3.5 player when they denied the grievance, and then they give him a 4.0 rating, seems contradictory.
If this system is purely computer based, I find it hard to understand why Glen got bumped up with his results this season. I think speculation had to be factored in to that bump-up. What do you think Cary?
I won't be able to see the match tonight but I'm sure my phone will be ringing about 10:30 p.m.
I have tried to understand the rating system for years and it never really made sense to me. for instance my two bump ups on my 4.0 team. Noaman had one lopsided win over Warner who is close to being moved back to 3.5. He barely beat Powell, who is still a 4.0. Kent lost two matches, one rather convincingly in fact I watched that match, 6-1, 6-4 was not indicative of how bad he and Bolden were beat that day and those two guys are still 4.0. Kent beat pearson bad, who is still at 4.0 so I get that. But he squeaked by Walker, who yep is still a 4.0 and then there is Ratana, still at 4.0 with wins at 4.5.
ReplyDeleteI kind of gave up on the rating system long ago when I was moved down to 3.0 5 years ago and won a few matches and moved right back up even though there was a two guys who beat me at 3.0 who somehow still kept their rating and went on to nats at 3.0 that year.
After that I just try and win and figure it will all take care of itself.
I think the only thing I have learned if you win at singles at all at any level eventually and probably sooner than later you will be moved up.
I guess the posting here isnt offensive so I shouldn't care - but could the REAL pat jameson poster please leave my name out of this?
ReplyDeleteJohn knows I filed the grievance to get an edge at the DCC - it dond't work - but I do not think it is going to matter. HP wins 4-1 and sends the GTC boys home to momma.
one could also look at the bump of Joey Molina to 5.0, yes we know he should be a 5.0, but he lost Kiron and Frink who did not get bumped. Branch goes undefeated and does not get bumped. I have to assume the 1,0 win over Miles and then the double bagel of Bruno overtake the 2 losses.
ReplyDeleteThe computer is so screwy it is not even funny.
I am so confused now. How many Pat Jameson's are there? Pat Jameson, the REAL Pat Jameson, and the Not Real Real Pat Jameson. sheesh.
ReplyDeleteI'm confused. Will the real Pat Jamison Please stand up..Please stand up...Please stand up...
ReplyDeletelol
ReplyDeleteRantana stayed 4.0 because tournaments don't count until the end of the year.
ReplyDeleteLook, I admit that Glenn Flora and Zack Courtney play at about a 4.5 level. But you have to give them credit for keeping their scores close to avoid a DQ.
ReplyDeleteWe badly want to go to Nats this year and that's the only way to get there.
Screw you all!
John Sisk
Will the real John Sisk Please stand up...please stand up...please stand up...
ReplyDeleteDo you think any of the new guys who got moved to 5.0 have a chance of getting DQ'ed this weekend (i.e. Gonzalez or Bui)? I could see them putting up some lopsided results.
ReplyDeleteCorey, My Boy - I have been defending you on this blog and even have taken it upon myself to defend your character once when a rude blogger made the San Fransicko comment.
ReplyDeleteCmon - you are better than this - we don't need to start trying to get Phat and Henry DQD or even think of that the night before you are about to compete with them. That is weak. There will be no lopsided results. We are all big boys, including you. Stick your chest out there a bit and instead of talking about getting them DQd -why don't you try to convince YOURSELF you can beat them. If you do - I will promise someone will try to discredit you and I will once again come rushing to your defense.
Close matches and lots of good competition tommorrow - there will be no dqs.
HP
I could care less if they get DQ'ed, I was just trying to start a new conversation. I would love to play either of them and I expect to do well every time I step on the court. It just seems like any player who gets moved up while their team is still alive would be vulnerable to DQ I would think, especially when they haven't lost.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, one 4.5 superstar just lost. What now?
Furthermore, I played next to Henry last week and I didn't think he was playing at a 5.0 level, although he probably was based on the score. I am not in the business of trying to get anybody DQ'ed, especially those I haven't even seen or met.
ReplyDeleteGTC now down 0-2.
I hope some appologies are ready to come out for these 4.5 super stars. I think it is clear they are barely 4.0 players and frankly I am shocked the computer bumped them - especially Flora whoe already had a lost and had zero wins that would constitute a strike.
ReplyDeleteI hope some apologies come out to me (Nancy, the liar, etc.). If High Point beats Garland for the second time, how can the focus stay on them?
ReplyDeleteHP leads GTC 2-1.
ReplyDeleteGTC and HP tied 2-2 with line 1 doubles in third-set tiebreak.
ReplyDeleteCome on Cory?
ReplyDeleteWho won?
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard anything so I'm expecting a GTC loss. Silence is usually not good.
ReplyDeleteLine 1 doubles lost 10-8. HP wins 3-2.
ReplyDeletesounds like a great match thanks for the update
ReplyDeleteWhat does this mean for Garland? Can they still go to sectionals?
ReplyDeleteIt will be very difficult because Zack is unlikely to play again. He injured himself tonight.
ReplyDeleteSorry - had to do this from my blackberry - - YEAH BABY!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow I really don't know if that is the real Pat or not. Either way is fine, I'm just curious. It was a big win for your team. Tomorrow morning is now huge for all the teams.
ReplyDeleteZack + Injury = Karma
ReplyDeleteOC def GE 3-2
ReplyDeleteWhat a shocker!!! Dirty Garland done dirty by its own ringer.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great match that could have gone either way. Both matches have come down to close third set tie breaks. Both teams left it all out there. I am sorry to hear about Zach. I did not realize he was hurt. He definitely did not look like the same guy as a few weeks ago. I hate for anyone to get hurt. I wish Garland the best of luck and hope we see them again... and third time is not the charm...
ReplyDeleteWhat happend to Courtney?
Corey is absolutely correct and the matches tomorrow are all big.
I think it's the same injury he has had all season, which was part of the reason he is playing 3.5. It is basically tennis elbow but there have been times he has been unable to hit a real serve. I think he may have served underhand a few times the first time he played you guys.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Greg. You guys are well on your way to Sectionals.
One last thing... there was no blood shed in the HP/Garland blood feud.
ReplyDeleteAny tiebreakers in the OC GE battle? Or was it an easy 3-2?
ReplyDeleteCorey,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words but I really do not think this is anywhere near decided. I am not at all convinced Garland is out of it or we are in it. It was definitely a big step for us in the right direction but much work needs to be done. I was able to see some of Gleneagles and OC. The forgotten Gleneagles may have lost but they are not nearly as weak as they have been portrayed. OC looked really good too. All of the teams look very comparable and I suspect there will be many 3-2 matches.
As someone who has spent most of his tennis playing life with one injury or another... I really Zack gets better. If he needs, I know a very good Orthopaedic... at least he has taken a fair amount of my money and prescribes needed painkillers.
If anyone does NOT think Glenn Flora is a 4.5 player they are idiots or liars.
ReplyDeleteGarland, you go down again tomorrow!
Did GE OC have any 3rd set tie breakers?
ReplyDeleteFat John looked really bad in losing his doubles line against High Point's weakest team. He should not even put himself out there. Sisk is NOT among the top 8 for Garland. With any other captain, fat John would be sitting on the bench!
ReplyDeleteIf this place gets anymore lovey dovey Kissy face I'm leaving.
ReplyDeleteSomeone Bring on the Smack.
Whatever you say. John and a lesser partner beat two guys that were in the lineup for GTC tonight earlier today in straight sets. I have no idea how he played tonight but he is clearly top 8, if not top 4. I'd like to see the 3.5 team that would have him on the bench.
ReplyDeleteLet's be honest, John played like crap!
ReplyDeleteI do not think Flora is a 4.5 player - I know he is not one. He loses to 4.0 players all the time. He is a very good 3.5 player and will be a better than avg 4.0 player in the fall.
ReplyDeleteEven in defeat Garland gets attacked. Why does HP not get any of the attitude the GTC receives. Lets be honest Jameson is now undefeated and has 2 victories over this Garland team that everyone feels are the biggest cheaters around. Apparently there are a few other "4.5 superstars" in the DCC.
ReplyDeleteJohn played like crap. It's true. I guess that puts the tanking matches thing to rest though. What a shocker. I am numb.
ReplyDeleteClay Harrison and Tony Watanabe played as well as I have ever seen them play. I have not seen John play much but I know Clay and Tony may have had something to do with how they played.
ReplyDeleteWatching Sisk play... I can tell you that you will not play many players with bigger serves. I suspect that if he has a partner who is active at the net in the slightest that he will be broken very rarely.
I think it's because the vast majority of the visitors to this site are High Point players or Plano-ites, which is expected since it's Cary's blog. Anytime High Point is involved in a poll, they always get the most votes which made me realize where the majority of patrons come from.
ReplyDeleteAs I already said, I didn't see John play tonight. But he is not doing a very good job of cheating with two losses. If he wins tomorrow, will it be because he is a 4.0 player or because he has been tanking up to now?
I have noticed that YOu have to serve the ball in play first, in order for your net man to be most effective.
ReplyDeleteDid anyone have the double fault counter out? I think I saw quite a bit of "F" signs hanging across center field.
Corey, if you saw Sisk play tonight, you would be choking on your words... HA HA!!!! PUN intended!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't get it. I admitted that I didn't see him play. But I know they didn't have a better option for tonight. John and Dan did win a tournament not too long ago and everybody was complaining that they were sandbagging. There is no in between with you guys. Somebody either sucks or their sandbagging.
ReplyDeleteok I just got home from collecting the singles from the ladies and that is some crazy news. HP beats Garland for the 2nd time. WOW!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think HP might even be shocked they won. Congrats to you all.
Don't worry Big John the weekend has only begun.
Nice playing Clay.
I normally root against High Point. But it was nice to see them beat Garland. Garland is so arrogant and obnoxious.
ReplyDeleteOak Creek had one 3rd set tiebreak ... and they lost. Don't count out Gleneagles!
ReplyDeleteFat John CHOKED!
ReplyDeleteeddie lost the first set but he's still fighting
ReplyDeleteHow are the other lines looking? Any updates on 9:00 matches?
ReplyDelete4.0 Update
ReplyDeleteLifetime 4. The Lakes 1
4.0 Update
ReplyDeleteLifetime 4. The Lakes 1
4.0 Correction
ReplyDeleteLifetime 3 The Lakes 2
Eddie lost 6-4,7-6 to Runda
HP 4
ReplyDeleteTBAR 1
4.5 results from this morning:
ReplyDeleteOak Creek Branch 3, Royal Oaks 2
T Bar M 3, Village 2
good job eddie!
ReplyDeleteWho won for Royal Oaks?
ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks won the singles and lost in a 3rd Set TB at #2 Doubles.
ReplyDeleteGonzales beat Branch in 3rd TB, and Molina beat James 4,5
3.5 LTF beat HP 3-2 final match win in 3rd set tie breaker.
ReplyDeleteOC lost to GTC 3-2 in a tough match
ReplyDelete3.5--Lifetime beats HP 3-2 and Garland beats Oak Creek 3-2. Good job Lifetime and Garland. Every match has been decided 3-2. Flora and Mudsam continue to roll. Courtney was out with an apparent injury. That could be a big hit on Garland. As been the knock on HP, their woeful singles play has finally caught up to them. An inability to win a singles line caused a 3-2 win to be a 2-3 loss. Had Courtney not been hurt, then they would be 0 - 4 in singles and already out of contention.
ReplyDeleteI am anti-HP about many of their guys but I must give credit where it is due. They are a scrappy team that finds ways to win and compete. I think they are the least talented contender in the playoffs but they eek out some wins. I think they were lucky against Garland but they could not get another injury.
Yes, High Point 3.5 has been lucky and will likely lose to Oak Creek _ which will put them out of the race.
ReplyDeleteHigh Point has an excellent team but no true "ringers". Give them credit for playing fair _ unlike Garland with their HS superstars and unlike LifeTime with Mudsam.
OC vs Gleneagles was very close all the way. OC#1 singles had his hands full and was down 0-4 in the second set. Had Fults not double faulted so much, it could have gone into 3rd set. If Mark is their #1 singles, they are in a world of hurt. And for Gleneagles to be a 100-1 shot, they did very good against OC.
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone be a High Point hater?? They are nice guys, they play fair, and they did not recruit a bunch of ringers. Just good solid players top to bottom.
ReplyDelete4.5 Update:
ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks defeated T-Bar 4-1
Branch defeated Village 5-0
Branch is all but into Sectionals sitting with 8 wins, Royal Oaks follows with 6 matches, and T-Bar with 4.
Branch would have to lose 5-0 to T-Bar and Royals wins 3-2 over Village in order to be knocked out. Highly unlikely.
Village can play spoiler as they play Royal Oaks and T-Bar plays Branch.
Also does anyone know if they run the ratings during or after DCC?
I would highly suspect that Gonzalez will be DQ'ed the next time the number are run.
also I must say I like the chances of the 4.5 WC Dallas Team, they appear to be in the group that will include the 2nd Place Houston Team, Waco, and Corpus Christi.
ReplyDeleteAlso if I was the team I would have a grievance already in hand for the Corpus Christi Ringer.
Dallas Champ will have a tough time with a very good WC Austin, Abilene, and a tough Ft Worth Team.
Yep Royal Oaks and Branch look very solid. I think Branch was just too deep. Royal Oaks has Molina, Gonzales and Bui who seem a step above. That dubs match with Bui and Kiron and Pollard, can't remember the 4th guy was awesome. That was some great looking doubles. For all the talk on Gonzales I don't think he is playing out of level nor is Molina they are just very good and smart players as are Branch and James.
ReplyDeleteOut of the 4 Branch has the ugliest skill set (so I am now his biggest fan, my strokes look better than that) but he is a fighter in every sense of the word. If you just watch he and Henry play separately Rusty has no biz playing against him but he almost pulled that match out. He missed an overhead that would have made it 6-8 and who knows what happens since I think he was wearing down Gonzales a little bit. Rusty is a freaking energizer bunny. Kiron and Pollard will be tough to beat at sectionals, I do wonder about their singles in the long run but their whole team was fun to watch.
For all those people comparing the 3.5 ringers to 4.5 players, OC/Branch and Royal Oaks should be insulted. I am glad I dragged myself out of bed to watch that match, it was worth it.
3.5 singles do look pretty solid though. Mudsam and Flora are the only two that are slightly borderline digusting playing down at this level but who am i to judge. didn't get to see courtney play because he is out with injury but that soul patch might just be borderline digusting :)
Rodriguez and Tuorto are great players but they both could use a subscription to Jenny Craig if they want to compete at the next level.
OC BL looked solid today but they will be hurt with no back up, what is up with Flores?
And the upset alert of the day, LTF beats the Lakes and sets up a showdown for a sectional spot with Springpark that is going on right now.
Go get em Eddie, BTW Eddie did lose to Runda in a close match.
Still your biggest fan Eddie.
I haven't checked and seen the new brackets if they are out but it definitely won't be the 2nd Houston team. It will be the first which happens to be the team that lost in the finals last year. They will be very tough. However, if those are the pools that very well may be the flight that sends the second place team in.
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd place team from Houston in 4.5s has withdrawn from sectionals due to a lack of available players. It will be the 2nd placers from some other city.
ReplyDeleteSpringpark 3, Lifetime 2
ReplyDeleteLifetime is all but out in 4.0
Lifetime has been eliminated as they will lose any tiebreakers if Lakes and Spring Park go 3-2 lakes and finish third.
ReplyDeleteSpring Park and Lakes still have to determine it on the court tomorrow. Depending on the score the Lakes is still alive with a victory
rockettman
Way to step up Eddie. Must have been the shoulder?
ReplyDeleteGive Lifetime props.
ReplyDelete5-5 against Lakes and Springpark.
I doubt Greenhill or T Bar M would have been close to that.
Hey Eddie and Lifetime had a heck of a run He was matched up against Runda who is now a 4.5 and Gene who is now a 4.5/5.0. The only way Gene loses is if Springpark already has three lines and he tanks
ReplyDeleteIn fairnes to Giberot Flores, he has played 2 really good players. Flora beat Parekh 1,0 & Selmon only has one loss on the year and some pretty convincing wins too. If he is self rated, I would not be surprised if Selmon gets DQ'd. He has some pretty impressive scores. He is one of those people who start his name with an initial and then his name so finding their info is really hard.
ReplyDeleteGarland won 3 2 in 3rd set tie breaker 10 8.
ReplyDeleteWow, every 3.5 match has been 3-2 and most have been decided by a 3rd set tiebreak.
ReplyDeleteSomeone said that it looked like a lot of evenly matched teams and he suspected we would see alot of 3-2.
ReplyDeleteI would like to blame someone, but the fact is I lost a tough match to Runda. Man he is a backboard with a very good lob when you come in. With Gene. Let's just say he is very, very good. and he stopped playing hard after 5 games. I am kicking myself a bit with the Runda lost.. he played good. I played good.. he sqeaked out a couple points more. We will see what happens tomorrow. We are not dead yet, but we do need the perfect storm. I will be amazed if someone can get 3 lines off SP. We have taken a good step forward as a team and I am very proud of our guys. Lifetime is here to stay and will make a better run next year. Eddie
ReplyDeletedid eddie play gene or Robert like tennis link says?
ReplyDeleteHe played Gene it looks like the person recording the score wrote Robert instead of Gene.
ReplyDeletehave the new brackets come out for 4.5 sectionals. who is with who as it relates to dallas # 1 or # 2. do we know yet or not. if so, how do we find this info...
ReplyDeletebetter get that changed eddie cause you played eugene davis not robert davis.
ReplyDeleteTwo tough matches for my team today. We pretty much dropped out of contention by losing to T bar this morning. That was a match we had to win to have a chance to go to Sectionals. I thought if we won one singles line that would be enough to beat them but I guess I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteIn the second match, we just got destroyed by Oak Creek. If Walt and Chris play together regularly, the rest of the teams in the state better look out. I can't see anybody beating them.
For me individually it was a great day since I probably had my two best singles matches I've ever had in the same day but there is no I in team.
There is a me in team.
ReplyDeleteI guess Cary's man crush on Lakes is over. They must have been in the easiest division. They would not of even made it to the QT in flight A.
ReplyDeleteor is the Cary jinx real
ReplyDeleteFor the moment, it looks like the winner of Dallas 4.5 will go into the Group III w/ Austin Wild, Abilene and Fort Worth. That means group I will have Waco, Houston, Corpus and Dallas Wild. Almost looks like it pays to come in second in Dallas. If you go to the USTA page and click on some clicks you can pull up the start of the brackets for sectionals 2008. It is not complete but it does have 3 of the 4 teams listed in Group III. For what its worth.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know the results of Greenhill and T-Bar 4.0?
ReplyDelete3-2 Greenhill
ReplyDeleteI wish I played Robert Davis. the guy inputing it messed up. they will fix it. Eddie
ReplyDeleteI'm still having trouble seeing how Group I is easier than group III unless you're not planning on winning your flight and hoping to finish as the second place team that makes the semis. FW may have better singles players but I think if you matched player for player Houston is a better group. Granted it's all about winning lines and either team will be tough. I don't know enough about the others and therefore group III may be deeper but group I may be tougher to win. Either way I don't see either group being a huge advantage. I know I wouldn't be licking my chops to play either one even though it will be fun for me to play FW again since they're a great group of guys.
ReplyDeleteSorry you got knocked out Cory glad you played well.
Is the 4.0 final going to be a tankfest or are they going to try to win?
On tanking the finals. Of course we have to win a very tough match this morning against the Lakes. Due to this stupid format, SP has very good players who will not have played in the first 2 matches. Players we will need at sectionals when you could play 6 matches in 3 days. These players will play and play to win. Is that tanking? Jim
ReplyDeleteagreed with Kern.
ReplyDeleteHouston # 1 will be the favorite at sectionals 4.5.
My guess - Houston, Valley, Corpus, Dallas, FTWTH. there are your 5 top teams, with Houston being the favorite.
Can you send a link to the brackets - still can not find them.
Original 4.5 brackets:
ReplyDeleteFlight 1 Waco, Dallas, Houston, Corpus Christi
Flight II San Antonio, Austin, NOHO, Valley
Flight III Houston, Fort Worth, Qualifier, Dallas
But one of the Houstons is being replaced with another Austin.
thank you - does anyone have any idea what the new brackets look like.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they're changing. TTA just has to announce which Austin and which Dallas go in each bracket.
ReplyDeletenew info from the Houston blog about 4.5 sectionals.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous said...
Best singles player on the Kingwood Crush is Hurlbert! Then Lopez Then Omon Dibua then Armstrong. With that rotation they are strong but still beatable. Valentine cannot play singles in Dallas but is a Super Stud in doubles. Probably the Best doubles player at Sectionals this Year Hands Down. So if Sectionals started today and Kingwood played 1.Lopez 2.Dibua 1.Armstrong/Hurlbert 2.Valentine/Hai Vu 3. Burris/Burris they would be tough and DEEP. Kingwood will definitely be waking up Sunday in the semis Guaranteed!!!

Oh BTW Branch's Team nor anyone from the Dallas Team can match up with the Crush. i'd be more worried about the FT. Worth Team doing some upsetting. They have reloaded there roster.

Congrats Eddie on a great season. It was fun being part of the Lifetime experience. I'm still kicking myself that me and my partner lost in the morning in doubles, but they were a very good team.
ReplyDeleteEverybody rags on Eddie about this and that, but the bottom line he captained a team that has never been to the playoffs and guided us to only one line away from automatically clinching a spot in the sectionals.
So now, our focus is pulling for the Lakes. C'mon Lakes pull off that 3-2 win and lets see how the sets lost end up and who's in and who's out.
But at the end of the day, this is still tennis and it is a FUN GAME!
Attention!!! Glen Flora will be DQd at the end of the playoffs. He is very good player but could use some court manners. Throws racquet and uses f bombs when he misses a shot. Thinks he should never miss a shot. In time he will mature. Another typical young superstar.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Eddie and the Lifetime team. They had a great run this year and made big strides. The addition of Forrest was a great move and I'm sure Lifetime will be a better team in the future. Now that they have had some success it will be easier for them to recruit more top players.
ReplyDeleteGreat job Eddie and Lifetime!
Sorry Eddie, The Lakes will not be able to hang with Springpark this morning. I predict a 5-0, or 4-1 victory for Springpark.

ReplyDeleteand click on the level you want to see. at men's 4.5, it already has the austin wild team filled in at group III. Since Austin wild is replacing Houston wild and they wouldn't have stuck both houston teams in the same bracket that must mean Kingwood goes in Group I. It would be doubtful that the USTA would originally stuck both the Dallas winner and the Houston winner in the same bracket and put the two wildcards together so it seems that Group I will get Dallas Wild and the Dallas winner will go to group III. By the way, watch out for Waco.
I hear Waco took a page from Baylor's recruiting manual and went out and filled the team with nothing but foreign players that used to play on the tour.
ReplyDeleteI must say the bone-head move of the year also should go to Royal Oaks for signing Oscar Flores up in the next to last week of the season and only playing him one match. If he could have been eligible to play in DCC, Royal Oaks might have been the favorite, as he is a former 5.0 and can play some ball.
ReplyDelete3.5--I wish to congratulate Lifetime on their win over my HP team. Their singles players were just a little too much for our team. Mudsam is outstanding and Tuorto is really strong too.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wish to congratulate Garland on their wins over Lifetime and Oak Creek. Oak Creek/Lifetime/High Point/Garland are all sitting with one loss. Lifetime v Oak Creek match is really big. This really makes a mess of the 3.5. It looks like there may be 3(certainly not taking anything for granted) 1 loss teams that are vying for 2 sectional spots.
I would be absolutely lying if I said I had no rooting interest. Go Oak Creek and then get real tired for your match this afternoon.
Wiley
Somebody threw their racket and cussed on a tennis court, I don't believe it!!!
ReplyDeleteI played Glen yesterday (he beat me good) and I've seen a lot worse on a tennis court than that, I didn't have any problems with his behavior at all.
ReplyDeleteActually I like seeing my opponents cussing and throwing their rackets, that means I'm getting to them...
I am glad I have never thrown my racket on a tennis court. For the record, it has been a loooong time since I have been defaulted for my behavior.
ReplyDeleteHigh Point & Spring Park in the 4.0 final. No surprise here, but do either one really want to win?
ReplyDeletei would rather lose and get a better draw during sectionals.
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like 4.5 is going to have some draw at Sectionals. I like Branch over Ft. Worth with a split in singles and at least two out of three dubs. Not sure how you can claim the best doubles player at Sectionals before it's even started but good info. on the Houston team. I could see Oak Creek/Branch vs. Kingwood in the final but don't really know since I don't know the rest of the field very well.
