I was unable the come up with a picture of this weekend's winners so this is the closest one I could find online. I think you can guess which one looks most like Eddie. The pasty white one does resemble BMO slightly.Congrats to Lifetime for having a great weekend going undefeated, oops wait I mean going 3-1 and only losing to the SWAT team. It was a very tough tourney with 4 good teams and Brookhaven. Just messing with you Brad. Brookhaven was missing two solid players all weekend and already had a slim roster but put out a strong effort this weekend. The Village scored an upset on Friday night which sent the SWAT team reeling and we never could get back on stride. OC also was hampered by a small roster but came dangerously close to winning the weekend as they lost a very close match to Lifetime on Friday night. I thank all the captains and players for great on and off the court behavior unlike the stories I heard from the 4.5 QT tourney. Trust me I wanted nothing more to win this weekend but I genuinely like the other teams and wish Lifetime well next weekend and beyond.

This flight is very tough but knowing each team it will be hard for me to pick against the usual favorite of HP/Bob. This team is always good in doubles and now they have some singles players to back it up now so watch out. With that said Springpark and Garland are not overmatched they have solid play at singles and doubles but I just don't see the depth to match up 8 v 8. If I had to pick the 2nd team I would go with Garland just because I think the match up well with Springpark. Garland does have the best draw since they don't have to play a back to back and HP/Bob will not be able to rest singles players with McGowan and Woods playing in the morning match so there might be hope for Durdy Garland.

I see this flight about the same way with Lifetime being the favorite to win but they do have the disadvantage of playing the doubleheader on Saturday. I just don't see Brookhaven being competitive in this flight. They don't match up well with either team. It should come down to Saturday at 3p with TBar M v. Lifetime. I originally had Lifetime in my mind cruising in this matchup but I am not as confident after some overnight thoughts. I think this match will be very close and if you forced me to pick it I have to pick Lifetime but by the narrowest of margins.

ReplyDeleteThat's what should happen. The Fall league for the most part is watered down with players taking a break, some players trying to impact their end of year rating, and others shifting priorities.
ReplyDeleteTeams winning the Fall should not get a free ride into the DCC. That would also prevent the Fall winner from being able to hide players and scores as easily during the Spring season. They would want to win their flight so they wouldn't have to go through the QT.
If you give the Fall winner an automatic spot in the QT, then things would be more likely to be more accurate as far as the seeding for the DCC.
Nice pic of Lifetime champs. Looking at all the line-ups there are some pretty good teams here. Gonna come down to some tough matches. Lifetime still wins the whole thing. Cary, I think I remember you saying how terrible a doubles player Eddie was???? How did that line 1 match-up with you and your best doubs guy go against Eddie and Alex. I missed the score some how???

ReplyDeleteYou are supposed to actually come to the net when you play doubles. It's not actually two players playing singles on the same side of the court.
Ask Cary how many put away volleys I hit at the net. I got the the net plenty. Not to mention I was playing with an old grumpy bear that did not want to be out there. :-)

ReplyDeleteEddie is definitely not a doubles player but he is quick enough that is makes it very hard to end points. I give him credit for realizing he isn't as good as some of his singles guys so he is working on his doubles game. He should be able to claw one out.

and of course -Y- carried him when he started sucking it up. :)
Not sure about the singles comment. Just rounding out my game. I have only been back off the IR for 5 months now. I am happy with my results thus far. Glad to still be playing. Will only be 2 of us left on Sunday. Good luck to all.

I would normally pick LT to make it out of this group. I think having to play back to back matches will hurt them. Tbar will squeak this one out beating LT 3-2.
ReplyDeleteI like Tbar coming out of that flight also. I think Sam will win his singles and Tbar will take two of the three doubles. If Eddie playes doubles against Tbar, LT will lost that line. Last year one of Tbar doubles teams lost in third set TB to Brouer/Robinson of HP and Hederson/Grossman beat Voss/Newman. Tbar has too much doubles experience for LT.

I am not sure who ever plays that match can then play singles again and beat Stollenwreck and Grant.

To the person asking about WC's. Dallas 4.0 has two sectional spots so the Sunday final is pretty much meaningless. If someone wants to avoid Houston then they will still get Wild Houston in a semi and Fort Worth in the first flight, those are all good teams and I haven't even glanced at the other rosters.

ReplyDeleteThere are a number of very good teams out there that are the equal or better of the players you mention. It's going to come down to who plays better that day.

ReplyDeleteI really think that GTC has the best team this year. They should take both singles against HP and probably 2 of 3 doubles. Although both teams have excellent dubs. I look for a 4-1 GTC win (worst case 3-2) against Somabut's team. And that means that HP misses Sectionals this year.

ReplyDeleteThe two doubles teams named for Garland are both good 4.0 doubles teams, but neither is close to being a sure thing. Most teams in the DCC will have teams as good or better. If Terrell was a great doubles player he would probably still be on either HP or SP. Terrell is a better singles player than doubles.

I never though HP could do it in the Fall, and they won it pretty easily. I would say Garland is going to give them a good effort, but HP has a pretty strong team again.

ReplyDeleteHP has a very tough DCC schedule. On Sat they play SP at 11:00 am (Canyon Creek) and GTC at 3:00 pm (LBH).
ReplyDeleteHP is weak in singles and I think they will need 2 good singles players against SP and 2 fresh singles players against GTC. HP doesnt have 4 strong singles players so their weakness will be exposed. They could easily lose both singles to SP or GTC. And it is very tough to sweep the dbls.
Stephen Terrell is not on either of Garlands top 2 doubles teams. Remember Oberto and Flora beat the hell out of Voss and Newman last year.

ReplyDeleteSorry I like John and his guys but those names listed don't stack up against: Jarad Kemp, Carlquist, Nguyen, Dencil Johnson (teaching pro at HP), Keith and Steven, Weymer. I am sure there are some that I have missed I am thinking off the top of my head. After watching Stephen T behave on the court I hope he doesn't win a match and I have a feeling he won't, same goes for Andy Mac. Andy you might want to lay off the cursing they were handing out code violations in our match for merely grunting in the wrong way.

ReplyDeleteI think Eddie may have learned his lesson last year about doing too much talking before the DCC. I think he was very confident that LT would get through the QT. Even in QT, LT had a lot of close individual matches and lost to HP/Bazan.

ReplyDeleteThe winner of the HP/GTC match should win city championship in my opinion. I know many of the players on both teams. I agree with the statement that Garland must win both singles to win, which I think is possible. If HP puts their best singles player at line 2, they will probably win.
