So I saw these late last night and didn't get a chance to look to much till now.
3.5
Singles
Not many of the usual guys playing this one but Olivaries might be a good pick here, blog challenge guy Ron Jones got seeded and hopefully can represent well as a challenge tourney guy. Bob Cecil who I hit with sometime can make some noise if his serve is working.
Doubles:
I think the doubles entries are much stronger at this level than singles. Take your pick here, Prather/Girder will be tough but Stein/Burns are solid as well as Newman/Fults. Also Goheen/Ereckson can make noise.
4.0
singles
Feuille has the top seed and I don't see any roadblocks for him in reaching the final. Crouch will make him work if they meet in the quarterfinals. Great first round match up with the 2 seed Gonzalez v. Noaman Azhar. I will go with Noaman to take him out. I like a Azhar v. Harrigan quarter that could be a great matchup. And I am not going to lie I like my draw I was worried I would have a big name right off the bat. I just hope to get to Saturday somehow, we will see.
Doubles
A very small draw in doubles, I guess I should have played. I think the 1 v 2 matchup is inevitable and if hopefully Trae's vacation in CA helped and he and Leonard can take out Trey and Scott in the final.
4.5
Some solid names here although not any of the really big names from the FW tourney. Corey has a chance to shine here if he is on his game. Griggs has the 1 seed but has Gihvan or possible Mckinney to deal with before a Noel/Griggs final occurs.
Doubles
Much like 4.0 this draw is small and should end up being the 1 v. 2.
I look forward to seeing some of you out there this weekend. Any advice on my first round opponent, I have never heard of him. If he bagels me I am signing him up on my team for the fall.

ReplyDeleteSo anyone know anything about this Olivares guy? I could meet him in the 2nd round, and he's LT's pick to win it all???
ReplyDeleteIs it the father or the son playing? If it's the son, I've played him before. If it's the father, I haven't a clue.
ReplyDeleteThey are both 3.5s with the exact same name but with different middle initials. The son hits big on both sides and has a huge serve but hits out alot. Consistency is his biggest flaw. But has TONS of energy. I can't imagine his father being a favorite, I think his specialty is doubles.
I think it's the dad -- did a search on his name (middle initial R), and he plays on senior teams in Rockwall as well as on regular 3.5 teams.
ReplyDeleteThen again, it's the older guys who you have to be worried about the most these days -- total wildcards!
Hey OCBL, Why don't you grow a pair. Scott Russell is a nice guy but is in the bottom quarter of singles players in Dallas at 4.0 level. If you lose to him you should either go back to 3.5 or prepare for a long winter and spring.
ReplyDeleteit would actually be a good matchup, although I would slightly favor Scott in a close won but OC's consistency has picked up considerably. they actually play similarly to each other.

ReplyDeletethanks. i did think I played alright but did hit a little wall as I seem to do in the heat and we were playing at 6:30a.
ReplyDeleteI just hope we stay on time because I don't want too much time in between matches so I can stiffen up, I think i will bring some cold elixir in my cooler to keep refreshed.
Posting this tourney is really reaching for material. Some small, weak draws. Just talking about Noel v Griggs in the 4.5 final will put you to sleep. Two average 4.5's that wouldn't have won a match last weekend at Sectionals. I guess you have to fill the space though since the excitement is over.
ReplyDeleteDarkhorse 4.5 predictions. Dante Edwards in singles and Edwards/Kemp in 4.5 Doubs.
ReplyDeleteHey OCBL... Glad to hear you weren't scared about the matchup. Maybe you do have a pair Marcos.
ReplyDeleteBTW. OCBL. Did you see that Cary picked Scott in a close one for your match. I think you need to jump on him not me. Maybe him will hummm for you if you win.
ReplyDeleteWhat about M Anderson, D Depew and S Bert in 3.5 singles.
ReplyDeleteMark is consistent and is always tough. D Depew has a good game and could give Pedro some problems. S Bert is consistent and is like a backboard. I played S Bert and I hope I don't play him again any time soon.
Cary you did hit a big name in the first round at DT Tournament, he has 9 letters in his last name...good hitting
ReplyDeleteOcbl,
ReplyDeleteDo you want to bet me 500.00 you can't beat me 0-0? Easy with your mouth! If you want to play glen, I'll put up 500.00 to your 300.00you can't beat him. Hell I'm fat and have a big serve, easy money!
Chill out dude!!!!You couldn't beat mudsam(sp)and you think you can beat glen! Show me the money,if you have it to lose!!!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteThis section is really funny. If Scott is in the bottom quarter of the 4.0 level than I'm George Washington. He is consistently ranked in the top 20 and has a solid team tennis record for the last 5 years. As far as the 4.5 tournament goes, Philip Griggs won Sectionals in 2006 I believe and I made 5 straight major zone semifinals in 06-07. If the draw was so weak why didn't you sign up anonymous 12:48?
ReplyDeleteI've never seen oc bl play but I'm predicting Russell 2 and 2.
I'm interested in that first round match between Edwards and McKinney. That is quite a contrast in styles.
Uh, McKinney is getting crushed by Dante, trust me on this one. He'll be lucky to get 4 games total. Dante's a beast.
ReplyDeleteBest player at 3.5 sectionals this year will be Mitch Petty from SETX. Mark my words.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see. I've only seen Dante play once and that was doubles. I think he is a much better singles player but he hasn't played much lately that I've seen. Trey has been playing well lately so if Dante beats him 2 and 2 that would be quite an accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteSisk,
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! I can always count on you to come to the defense of one of your Garland boys! I like that in a captian! Keep it up and good luck to you and the dirty boys this weekend at sectionals!!!
Noel - this ain't 2006-2007 anymore. That draw is a yawner.
ReplyDeletedangit nancy this kind of stuff "I made 5 straight major zone semifinals in 06-07"
ReplyDeleteis pure crap, you never made it out of the quarters of a major zone in 07 and your "run" in '06 (which was actually only 4 ((not 5)) if you go back into '05) consisted of a best win that was over curtis sims.... hardly a legit player...
face it, you got lucky to play at a time when 4.5s was very weak, since then you have been a round of 16 type of player if that, so drop the freaking false arrogance , do something real and quit trying to impress the 3.5s on this board with your BS

ReplyDeleteOCBL. you may really have to grow a pair. Scott will beat you 4 & 3 on Friday. and he is in the bottom quarter of 4.0 players. What does that say for your game??
ReplyDeleteWell not sure about bottom quarter for Scott, but he is not in the top 50 in Dallas 4.0. He will beat Marcos though. 4&4.

ReplyDeleteThose barrels out in front of the garland tennis center, are those garbage cans or where Sisk keeps his post match treats?
ReplyDeleteNo, it is where keeps the cans of "woop-ass" that Scott will open up on you.
ReplyDeleteOCBL. I see you keep deleting your comments. Grow a pair!!!
ReplyDeleteJust showing you I'm Man enough to be Anonymous like you Big man.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on growing a pair of twins inside your mom.

ReplyDeleteWho are you play this week-end?
Oh playing with yourself again, Huh.
Don't over do it with the Jurgens.
Who farted?
ReplyDeleteNo. Just playing the odds. Odds are Scott will beat OCBL 4&3.
ReplyDeleteSomething must be wrong with my computer. The draw that I look at says Marc and Scott have first round matches that they have to win before they entertain the thought about playing each other in the second round.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Jay Breaux and Tuan Nguyen might have some input come
5pm tomorrow.
Just a thought.
Minor formality. Unless ocbL takes and L.
ReplyDeleteRussell 1 and 3.
ReplyDeleteWow. So many responses to a potential match. I'm just looking at my first round right now, especially since I've never seen or heard of the guy...

Forrest M. Feuille Granted an Appeal to 4.0,
ReplyDeleteThought he appealed a bump earlier in the season,
Thought you only get one appeal?
There is no way to even guess what criteria is used to bump players, up, down or grant appeals. Forest is 1-0 in 4.5 matches this year and 4-0 in 4.0 league play including 2-0 in the city players against a couple of pretty good players. If there was a reason to bump him in the ESRs, what could be the reason he gave to get bumped back down? Another coward afraid to play at their proper level.
ReplyDeleteBeaumont is looking for more open players in the Labor Day Tourney. If you win the men's open division you will get to play doubles with Marty Fish and Robby Generpi down here. If you go to the USTA Texas section you'll get more info on that.
ReplyDeleteShamus Darden
What can he say? He truly likes playing 4.0 Tennis.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he does. Maybe he pointed out he is only ranked #5 in the current 4.0 Rankings with an 18-1 record. He only loss was a three setter to Adam Blumberg who was bumped to 5.0.
ReplyDeleteScott R. 6-3, 6-2 over OCBL
ReplyDeleteMaybe if you send in a $50 instead of a $5 with the appeal form.
ReplyDeleteYes I'm sure he likes playing 4.0,
ReplyDeleteEverybody like to win.
Forest will be wasting his time playing 4.0 in the Fall. He will be bumped up at the end of the year so he will won't be able to play 4.0 tennis after December.
ReplyDeleteProbably just trying to help Lifetime win the Fall league so they get an automatic spot in the City Playoffs. Hopefully DTA will quit giving that spot to the Fall winner.
ReplyDeleteRussell will beat Forrest in the semi's 6-4 6-3.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a stretch. Maybe sarcasm? Not sure who posted that, but thanks for that... Again, just going to try to get out of the first round.

Russell Will win the tournament with out dropping a set.
ReplyDeleteafter all he does have his own website
www.scottrusselltennis.com
Just like
www.rogerfederer.com or
www.andyroddick.com
so he must be good!
He will win then be moved up to the open division.
How can someone who has won more than one major zone get bumped back down?
ReplyDeleteThanks again for posting my webiste. More publicity. Typically I work with people who are brand new to tennis and have never picked up a racquet before. Why do I have a feeling the person who posted it could probably still benefit from lessons?
ReplyDeletescott
I have never claimed to be one of the top 4.5 players in the state. I'm only saying to complain about the draw of a tournament being weak is chicken**** when you're not involved in the tournament. Should I "do something real" like you who sits around criticizing everybody else. How many major zones have you won?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see the people on this blog haven't completely lost their mind and are going with Scott to win. Klamecki might not even make the second round in the first place.
Forest has won three of the four tournaments he has entered and two of them were Major Zones. Tournament results usually don't figure in, until the end of the year, but you would think when looking at appeals they would at least look at the results to help them make their determination.
ReplyDeleteYou better watch your tongue "Nancy" Noel,
ReplyDeleteYou will be staring me down in round 3 of the Blog Tourney,
I have been known to use violence when I'm in the under dog roll.
Since everyone is so talkative on this thread: If I wanted to find a 4.5 team in Dallas this fall, what team(s) would be closest for a person that lived at DFW airport? Also, does playing on a fall league team restrict you in any way from playing on a different team come spring?
ReplyDeleteSorry to disrupt the very intriguing Denise Terrill tourney talk. TIA.
Go to :
ReplyDeletehttp://dallastennis.yuku.com
Post an add that you are looking for a Team to join,
Also I have some pre-season lists posted,
Looks like there is a 4.5 team out of DFW Hilton, but I assume you would need to be a member of the club.
My team has already found 1 player from the forum, you other captains should give it a try.
Vik,
ReplyDeleteprobably LB Houston or the Greenhill team since that is fairly far south. I think there are multiple LBH teams and for FW guys that isn't all that far.
I am sure others would love to have you if you are willing to drive further, like Mr. Noel.
Too bad about the fall league in FW, I had hoped to play in that 4.5league but looks pretty lackluster in the roster signups.
You don't have to stick with the same team in the Spring, it is up to you even if you team wins the fall playoffs, you are not required to stay but in order for the team to get the auto bid in the playoffs they have to retain 70% of their players.
Yep not sure about these msr's everyone is getting their appeal approved that was bumped to 4.5, I wonder if Gene and Mitch would be approved.
ReplyDeleteOh well I am not complaining.
backhand SUX, what?
ReplyDelete:( :(
Looks like the cry babies are out in full force. Isn't it great that theses brave individuals speak their mind and then hide behind an anonymous post? These are the people who can't compete on a high level and bash the people that do well. Forest should be playing 4.5, but the system let him come back down to 4.0. The system will have no choice but to bump him up for good after the end of the year, but his appeal was most likely granted because he only played a few matches in league play and you can not get bumped up for tournament play mid-year unless they find you guilty of a false self-rating like in the Bloomberg situation with a DQ to 4.5. Shouldn't your beef be with the USTA and not these individuals?
ReplyDeleteThe beef is noone is talking about great tennis players like eddie. Someone could ask about my shoulder or my emotional state of mind, etc. and it would'nt bother me.
ReplyDelete"I made 5 straight major zone semifinals in 06-07." Ok, I don't care who you are you cannot defend this--yet another example of Nancy Noel's arrogance. C'mon, who writes like that about THEMSELVES? And this is about my 5th example of Nancy's necessity to boost his self-esteem. Used to give him a break cause he's a "young" guy, but even after pointing out this stuff and he STILL proclaims his greatness? I'm sorry, that just makes you a dick at this point. Nancy Dick Noel. Ok, now let me go click "Anonymous" again before I post this.
ReplyDeleteObviously that was the same person posting twice in a row. I really don't care what you guys think. Everybody that knows me personally and not based on my responses to idiots knows I'm one of the least arrogant people they've ever met. If I say anything about my results I either suck or am arrogant.
ReplyDeleteYou guys feel free to keep judging me but I guarantee you if you met me or knew me you would think otherwise. That being said, I don't really want to meet any of you anonymous posters so let's just agree to disagree.
Cary, you're right. I would take Dustin in a heartbeat. My team will play out of Northwood this season Dustin. We aren't too far from the airport and I'm looking for a singles player.

I think tournament results may not factor into the mid-year ratings but I'm not sure. That's the only thing that could make sense based on his record.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of bagels in there.
ReplyDeleteWow, someone is impressed with himself.
ReplyDeleteDon't be mad at Forrest. He would have never appealed if Eddie hadn't asked him to. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Eddie slipped him the $5 for the appeal fee.
ReplyDeleteall I know is that when I went to sectionals I saw the 4 best 4.0 singles players I have seen all year going against each other for SP & Houston. The real kicker niether of those teams made it to Nats. Forrest is very good. He could not beat 3 of those 4 players. Elite teams competing for Nats have those kind of guys. Lifetime is now on that level.
ReplyDelete"Lifetime is now on that level". Thought you said he could'nt beat 3 of the 4 singles players?
ReplyDeletethe point is people are crying about Forrest. I am sure Lifetime plans to have 4-5 guys like him next year to get to Nats. They are the only team in Dallas that can do it.
ReplyDeleteForrest could not have beat any of the four singles players in the SP vs Houston match. Eddie flipped his singles in the city playoffs to because he knew Forrest couldn't win at #1 singles.
ReplyDeleteYou said Forrest could not beat 3 of the 4 "best players that you saw at sectionals". The 3-4 guys are sitting at home along with the rest of us. Why do you want to have 4-5 more like him? Eddie will probably beat Forrest in 4-6 months because Eddie had a second right arm attached or whatever. Based upon your facts, you still will not make nats.
ReplyDeleteKeep crying babies, keep crying...all the way to the consolation rounds.
ReplyDeleteCorey,
ReplyDeleteI do not know you and maybe you are an OK guy. But some of your postings do come off as a little self-centered.
Also, you defense of the Garland 3.5 team makes you look ridiculous. We have all seen Glenn Flora play and we all know he is not a 3.5. 4.5 is probably pretty accurate. You try to support and defend those guys simply because they are your friends. But you lose credibility when you do that _ and everyone knows you are being less than honest regarding that issue.
I am pretty sure after you see Glen play against some 4.0 competition you will see he is not 4.5. The fact his name and 4.5 keep getting put in the same sentice make you look pretty clueless. There are at least 3 if not 4 players on the Garland 4.0 team that are ahead of Glen on the depth chart.
ReplyDeleteNancy,
ReplyDeleteThere you go again . . .
I see only one that may be ahead of Glen on a depth chart.
ReplyDeleteIs there something wrong with defending your friends? Maybe if you guys had any, you would too. 4.5 players don't lose at line 2 doubles in 3.5.
ReplyDeleteJohn has been to Sectionals three out of 4 years. He knows what it takes to get to Sectionals, and he has lost enough at Sectionals to know what it takes to win. If he loses this year, he will go out and find players better than Glen. He will do get whoever it takes to compete with the other teams at Sectionals. Obviously based on Glen's results he is a 4.0 player, but for those of you claiming he is a 4.5 player, that's ridiculous.
Ben Oberto healthy would beat Glen
ReplyDeleteVJ has beaten Glen.
Scott could beat Glen
Zach and Glen are very close, so Zach may be ahead of Glen may not.
Anyone who thinks Glen is a 4.5 player has never watched 4.5 tennis. Believe it or not it is a much bigger jump from 4.0 to 4.5 than 3.5 to 4.0. It is a dramatic difference. Glen is going to do well in 4.0, and as you can see - Garland in general is going to be right there with the big boys
None of them will beat Lifetime. Lifetime easily has the best 4.0 team in Dallas and probably the state.
ReplyDeleteThe meds are taking affect.
ReplyDeletePrediction: Lifetime 2008 Fall National Champs. Deal with it suckers!!!!
ReplyDeleteto Poster: August 8, 2008 12:50 PM
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!! That is all we really needed to hear from Nancy. I wish that was her posting that thread.
Damn,
ReplyDeleteSame anon person here.
That WAS her posting that thread. Okay, she should of just said that the first time, and we would be over it already. Glen is a very good player. no 4.5, doing well in 3.5, and probably will do well at 4.0
I wish Garland the best now. Same goes for Lifetime. Go represent Dallas well.
And, just for the record, go to Sectionals, and SEE how many "ringers" are out there. Its not just Dallas that has really good players.
"John has been to Sectionals three out of 4 years. He knows what it takes to get to Sectionals, and he has lost enough at Sectionals to know what it takes to win. If he loses this year, he will go out and find players better than Glen."
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is Glen's level of play that will keep them from Nationals. I suspect it will the supporting cast.
The problem is you are constantly having to rebuild by losing players to 4.0. It's impossible to compete at the sectional level without new self-rated players every season. I agree with the comment somebody made earlier in the season that each team should be limited to the number of self-rated players they can have on a team. That would eliminate a lot of the sandbagging.
ReplyDeleteIf Corey put as much time into his own team that he does into Sisk's team they would probably beat Branch and company.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is not the number of self rated players. It is the players who are not legitimate. If a team has 10 self rates and they are all legitimate, nobody will care. If a team has only 2 self rates and neither are legitimate, then you will generate complaints.
ReplyDeleteI think most Garland and Lifetime players are legitimate but each have one or two that are way out of level. Nobody is complaining about Delira or Morrison. Neither lose much and both belong in 4.0 before this year. Yet, they are not disgustingly out of level. I think that is why you get the Mudsam and Flora complaints.
That's a funny comment from 8:33. Maybe if you weren't spending so much time criticizing Garland you would be in the playoffs instead of watching from the sidelines.
ReplyDeleteBranch's team is the best team in Dallas relative to all the levels so my team will always be fighting an uphill battle against them.
Did it ever occur to you Corey that the person who you said about being in the playoffs may have been in the playoffs last weekend? By the way, were you in the playoffs last weekend?
ReplyDeleteHis name is "Nancy." And his backhand is called "Ethel."
ReplyDeleteOh it occurred to me but if your level of play is equivalent to your level of intellect then you probably weren't.
ReplyDeleteIntellect is best displayed by announcing to a blog that you made 5 straight semifinals, and then finding out it wasn't even true (4 apparently). That's intellect. Just stick to things you know like a 100% slice backhand. I hear it's great for passing shots.
ReplyDeleteDarkhorse 4.5 predections. Edwards/Kemp in 4.5 Doubs. Please Darkhorse Don't quit your day job because Edwards/Kemp just went down 1-0 to Leija/Miles. I'm going to say that they will are my pick to win the finals....
ReplyDeleteHey Carey, It was nice to meet you today and I thought you had a great game overall in your singles match. Great Win!!!!
ReplyDeleteCarey=great game??????????
ReplyDeleteThat slice backhand got me to the finals this weekend. Where did your game get you?
ReplyDeleteHey, way to go Nancy! Congrats. Only took you 22.5 hours to post another message about your accomplishments. That's awesome man! Keep up the good work! See how that slice does against a real player.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kudos. I really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I did pick of Dante as the darkhorse in 4.5 singles and doubs. OK, I didn't notice that they were playing JD Miles in doubles so that was an oversight. But, Edwards did win the singles - not a bad darkhorse pick don't ya think?
ReplyDelete
