Combo tourney and Blog Challenge Tourney

So yet another weekend here in Dallas with something going on. The combo tourney starts this weekend. I will leave it to you all to give me your favorites. I would find it hard to go against Joel's team since they won sectionals last year in this event. But Corey's group looks solid.

7.5? Who knows.

Luckily you all will have the option of indoor and covered courts I am guessing so your delays won't be long due to the impending rain.

As far as the challenge ladder we will have to see if we can avoid those raindrops and get our 2nd round matches in. I am playing Curren on Monday evening, OC BL has hinted he might come and accost me during the match as I most likely will be blasted off the court. Klameckipolis called my win over Fraser a major upset. I swear I get no respect, no respect at all...

  1. My team is falling apart at the seams so I'm not sure how much of a threat we will be.

  2. Corey... I feel your pain; mine fell apart and I am the only original member of the team I had lined up. With that, I still cannot move.

Oh well, good luck and I will see you there.

    ReplyDelete
  3. It looks like it was a bad weekend because the 8.5 originally had 10 or 12 teams and now it's down to 4. A lot of people were still thinking about the spring season and playoffs.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I just added somebody to my roster that might change your prediction Cary.

    ReplyDelete
  5. What did you mean when you said Joel's team won sectionals last year Cary? I'm looking on tennislink and it looks like they finished 2nd in their flight last year. His team made the sectional semifinals in the tri-level. Is that what you were thinking of?

    Please clarify.

  9. i forgot he took a team over to FW and came back and beat Dallas and the rest of TX at the next level

  10. I think Nancy's team will do better than she's letting on.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Who's this Nancy I keep reading about? She sounds cool. And hot. Can I get her number?

    ReplyDelete
  12. LOL!!! Rumour has it Jane Gilpin called up the Lubbock Pro that played and cake walked through 4.0 Sectionals, and gave him an EARFUL!!!! Something about threatening to pull his USTA card or something (which I think she SHOULD pull his USTA card)

  15. Could you say it one more time? Can't hear very well in here.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mel Mcree was the cheater's name

    ReplyDelete
  17. There one was a man named Mel Mcree.
Who taught tennis lessons for a fee.

He got caught cheating one day.
Jane Gilpin told him to go away
Now he can't play for the USTA.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That was a whole lot of gayness.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That made me chuckle. Isn't there supposed to be 4 lines though? or is it just 3? I don't even know that stuff, but that was kinda funny

    ReplyDelete
  20. what the F*** does a DTA president care about a Lubbock player considering her own district had a much bigger ringer, Besides a simple look at the USTA guidelines allows Teaching Pros to rate 4.0

    ReplyDelete
  21. Mel Mcree is a USPTA Professional 1
Level. By definition he MUST be at least 4.5 to get a Professtional 1 rating. He could get in a lot of trouble with the USPTA. His benefits are tied to his rating.

  22. Congratulations to Joel's team for advancing to Sectionals today. We had three very hard-fought matches today and I was very pleased with how all of my teams performed today and throughout the weekend.
Special thanks to Doug Fair and Trey McKinney for fighting back from 0-4 in the second set to get to a tiebreak, in spite of Trey's knee injury.
I will have to settle for getting second place yet again but I think Dallas will be well-represented at Sectionals.

  23. I guess my pick was right, although it is too bad there wasn't a larger field for this event. I also figured Bartlett to do well BH has good 4.0 and 3.5 teams so I am glad they got a strong group together.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks for the congrats Corey. You had first class guys and very talented players on your team. Either team would represent Dallas very well at Sectionals.

Bazan, thanks for the pick. We were fortunate to hold off Team Noel today.

  25. T. McKinney Is a class act. He would be an asset to any team. Nothing but great things to say about "The Good Guy".

    ReplyDelete
  26. E. Ratcliffe and D. Prather = The Mickey and Mini Mouse of league tennis!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. If Mickey and Mini did all that after whinning and crying all season long than they are RATS. It always seems to be the people crying "We are the Ethical Ones and you are cheating". You made your bed now "lie" in it E. "RAT" Ratcliffe.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Why are you even concerned with D. Prather? He got bumped up where he will be destroyed. Believe me, he will not have fun playing tennis anymore and that a good thing for Dallas tennis. Maybe once and for all he'll quite. Like Jonathan, Prather is an embarrassment to Dallas tourney players.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Prather should appeal down, then play both 4.0 and 3.5 so that he can get his game up some. He used to be a really strong 4.0 back in the day. With some work he can get there again. But, I agree, why are we even talking about him?

    ReplyDelete
  30. ????
How in the world did I get in this conversation? Leave me out of this.

And just for the record, I don't play tournaments to make Dallas proud, I play them to have fun and get some much needed exercise.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Prather had a tough weekend in Mansfield. Seed #1 in singles & #1 in doubles & lost in semi in both to unseeded players. Take it easy on the guy, he is doing all he can to stay 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Cary,

Why don't you make a separate thread for anonymous personal attacks and we can make the other threads tennis only. 2/3 of the posts in this thread have nothing to do with the topic. I know that it's really out of your control but this stuff is really getting old. I just don't want this blog to turn into the Houston blog and I'm sure you would agree.

    ReplyDelete
  33. oh if it were only that easy.

It is the DTA's fault we need a league that lasts 365 days a year so you crazy bastards have something to talk about every day.

How about ragging on me I don't really care. Cary's team sux, his team won't win 2 matches this season.

I guess we could talk about mixed doubles championships this weekend, but uhhh. That might lead to Marc posting naked pics again. Hmmm. Sounds good to me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mixed talk - sweet. My only opinion is it doesnt matter if the girl can play or not, but she better look good - otherwise why do it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wow..David and Jonathon ..ignore the anon poster with zero personality..he is just a sore loser. L-O-S-E-R! (Jim Carrey style)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I couldn't agree more about mixed partners, I can forgive a lot more mistakes in mistakes at least during the match, when I get home and can't see the short skirt anymore I tend to talk trash about my mixed partners. Except for Mary, Danielle and Stephanie of course. To be honest I usually only talk bad about my wife in the car on the way home. For some reason those fights don't result in make-up s*x like others do, damn competitive women tennis players!

    ReplyDelete
  37. oops I forgot to add Lia to that list. See this is how I get in trouble with mixed doubles.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Uhh...I don't think you forgot.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have never played mixed before,
I am so manly and virile that I see playing mixed as possibly threating my marriage.

I Just don't see how i could get though a match without having sex,

    Just my 2 cents

    ReplyDelete
  40. baseline jesus, wow, what a load of crap

    ReplyDelete
  41. Is this blog not wicked enough without introducing blasphemy?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think there are any boundaries here that can't be crossed.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Cary,

You are forgetting those of us who actually play mixed with our wives. So we cant go home and trash our partners.

    Rockettman

    ReplyDelete
  44. Playing mixed with your wives - what the hell is the point of that - you better have one hot wife.

    ReplyDelete
  45. David Prather will do just fine at the 4.0 singles and doubles. I played doubles with him this week-end and he played great. His serve was really on this week-end and he constructed amazing points during his singles matches.

If you think you can take him on challenge him on the challenge ladder and test his game.

Bad-mouthing another player really shows no class. We all try our best at a game we love.

    Enrique Molina

    ReplyDelete
  46. Enrique, you are 100% correct. Dave and Ed are great guys. All the Dave and Ed bashing on the blog started right after they pointed out obvious cheating by the Garland 3.5 team. Guess who is behind the bashing???

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey Rockjock,

I am calling you out. I am putting together 16 people for high end doubles this weekend. Why don't you get your partner in crime?

Why don't you two come out this Saturday and play. Right now, I have Frisco High School slated for 2 pm, but if I can get the courts at LTF, I can get everyone in there.

I probably will be playing with my 4.0 partner this time, but don't think that you don't owe me and Andy a chance at the match that never happened.

    ReplyDelete
  48. i guess bmo considers his game "high end doubles"

    ReplyDelete
  49. Baseline Jesus! I love the name, and I saw the quote from the bible in another thread. So, no blashphemy from you on that name I am assuming. BTW Baseline, I love the Tennis racket in the picture!!! LMAO!!!

I heard that Jesus has a crappy backhand though.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Moses had a awesome kick serve that was untouchable.

    ReplyDelete
  51. yeah,

he slices it too much. The ball just seems to float.

    ReplyDelete
  52. yes,

the doubles was also sent to those on the challenge ladder if you are signed up there. BUT, I am looking for doubles players that would be / are competitive at the 4.0 level, or maybe a 4.5 player or two that were recently bumped against their will or have not been happy playing 4.5

This is a chance to get some fun DOUBLES play in before the season starts. A good litmus test for you and a partner for season league play.

I am looking for 16 players, and I have room for 7 more as of right now. Brian.Morrison@sbcglobal.net

It is No Ad scoring 3rd set tie breaker only, trying to get in 3 matches since it is No Ad scoring, but if you feel like you can only make it for 2 so be it.

Depending upon the weather (too hot), we may change it to 1 set against each opponent, playing 3 times. I am sure that there will be stragglers that would want to play more than three.

There is a local bar right there afterwards, where people could get some beer or a little food if so desired. (I am recommending Snookies on Preston and about Gaylord Pkwy?) Its no smoking, and usually not crowded at all, so you could be as loud or as smelly as you want to be, and it just doesn't matter.

    Cheers.

    Brian

  53. I have played him before in singles. He is tough. The guy is just everywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I don't know about that. I heard he has holes in his...game.

    ReplyDelete
  55. He's a tough player, just when you think you got him down and out, he comes back to life.

Plus, he is good about taking the ball on the rise.

The guy is too honest, he would never make it out of sectionals alive.

You can't ever get him to play after Easter.

Ok, no more from this anon. This is just too easy. Plus, I am hungry, I think I am going to go eat some Italian

    ReplyDelete
  56. I hear after the match he provides an all you can eat buffet with wine!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I played w him at cities, he was beaten the first day and it took him 3 days to recover.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Now that is bad. Come on guys we are talking about JC now aren't we.

    ReplyDelete
  59. How the heck did Cary beat Ryan Curren, did he drug him before the match or something?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Ryan is good. But if you keep the match close, he unravels. Temper flares up and he makes more and more mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ryan is tough and I enjoyed our match and meeting him. He is a good guy, I actually tried to get him and Enrique on my team but OC BL beat me to it.

I had only seen him play a set before against Tuorto at the QT final. He played very similar, big forehand, controlled but solid backhand and then he did cramp up as he did in that match but even when he was cramped he would still ace me on the deuce court much like he did Chris that day I watched.

I was actually content to play a close match with him and I felt good about my first set with him except when I had a chance to break him late and win the first I actually wilted.

When he cramped it was tough because he was up 5-0 in the 2nd and I didn't feel right drop shotting or crap like that but against his booming strokes I was really just blocking and slicing which was tough for him to handle since his movement was limited.

I look forward to getting revenge on Enrique next week, let me know when and where Enrique, Fretz again?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Wow up 5-0 and cramped, Again!
I'll have to buy that boy some Pickle juice, or take him out running with me,

Up 5-0 then letting it all go,
    That has to be tough,

Guess they call you Lucky thunder for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Holy crap, I've officially been introduced to Anonymous. I would have thought my mom or high school coach was on here talking about my on court demeanor. Nice observation, close match, I unravel. So first set 7-6...very close. Second set 5-0...not close...not much unraveling. Maybe temper = cramps, that's got to be it.

Actually, I give Cary a lot of credit. The dude runs down balls all over the place. He doesn't give up. We talked about it during and after the match. And I'm not big on patience.

No pickle juice Klamecki, I'll get it worked out. But I may have to skip practice on Sunday because I heard that Anonymous is sponsoring a temper management / unraveling course. The weird thing is that its being taught Anonymously.

  65. Thanks BJ (?) I guess those two visits to church in the past month worked out for me. sorry I missed for the like the last 4 years.

    RC:
don't worry about anon, unless he was on ct. 3 next to us he doesn't have any idea.

if anyone didn't step up when it got close it was me. I was frustrating Ryan a lot at the end of the 1st set and had multiple break points to set up a 6-5 service game for myself but I couldn't come through with one winner, I barely got into the TB in the first set.

BTW, if you think we are competitive in league tennis the guys on ct. 3 were a father and son playing and the were fighting over the line calls, the dad was grumbling F-bombs and they argued about the set and game score a few times. The son looked it me and said, "can you believe my Dad is freaking trying to cheat me"

I don't think they rode home together...
