So this is the first weekend of Nationals and High Point will attempt to bring home the crown and then Eddie can claim he beat them on one hot sunny afternoon.
I will not pretend to breakdown the teams in their flight but it will be interesting to see how they stack up.
Caribbean:
Some of these guys have been to Nats before but doesn't look like this core group has broken out of flight play in a little while but the crafy Puerto Ricans are always something to watch. I see them finishing middle of the pack but they do seem to have better doubles players so it might be a mirror image match when they see HP although I like Dencil and Craig to come out with singles going HP's way.
PNW:
This section won 4.0 mens last year and it looks like it came from the same tennis club. That starting 8 who won are all at 4.5 now but it can't hurt to play national champs every so often to get ready to win it yourself. It looks as if they have been very careful with their singles guys and have not lost anyone to DQ, etc. I expect this to be a very tough team.
New England:
Also looks pretty solid. To get to Vegas they dominated pool play at the sectional championships and look to have a very tough customer playing line 1 singles.
Southwest:
This team should have some trouble but I hope Bob is not tempting to pull and Eddie and have the starting group watch from the sidelines and put in Brouer. Just kidding Steven. :) But seriously this team is their last match and if they are still in the mix it might come down to style points.
I think it will come down to the Seattle team v. High Point. If they can get out of this pool who knows because Sunday you never know what can happen. I have a feeling the winner of this flight might come out with one loss.
Best of luck guys!
Good luck Texas!
ReplyDeleteGo get'em HighPoint-Somabut.
ReplyDeleteRockettman
Good Luck guys
ReplyDeleteIt should have been us!
ReplyDeleteEddie

ReplyDeleteThe last of the HP Nguyens.
Spearmint Rhino.
ReplyDeletethanks for the write up cary!
ReplyDeletego texas!
Good Luck High Point-Somabut!
ReplyDeleteCL
that was not me. Good luck HP.
ReplyDeleteThe real Eddie.
KICK ASS & GOOD LUCK TEXAS!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHopefully the Dallas 4.0 and Houston 5.0 teams can get nationals started off the right way for Texas.
Once again, GOOD LUCK!!!!
for those of you that want updates from Vegas I'm going to attempt this twitter thing! Jeromie_r, I will try to send during matches and while some of us are scouting. I will attempt some to comment on them, maybe on blog when we return to hotel. All after hour entertainment will not be disclosed although there are only two of us that are single and without spouses going!
ReplyDeleteGood luck y'all!
ReplyDeleteI'm playing in the B.Haven tournament this weekend in 4.0 singles and dont know much about most of the players. How about some predictions so I know who to watch out for and who I can drink the night before I play them...
ReplyDeleteHow the hell can we tell you about other players when we don"t know who you are.Anons have no credability on this site!!!
ReplyDeleteHow about some Brookhaven tourny picks?
ReplyDeleteBob and team. Good luck! Represent Dallas and Texas well as we know you will.
ReplyDeleteThat's part of the point ya nut job, I want to hear who you think is any good without telling you who I am so your judgement and comments wont be clouded.
ReplyDeleteTexas over pacific. 3-2 !!!
ReplyDeleteFrom the match
WOW!!!! That was a close one. Patrick got KILLED in the 2nd set. then, won in the tie breaker to give them the 3-2 win. Fenn beat in straight sets.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Featherston?
ReplyDeleteI heard he wasn't making the trip.
ReplyDeleteAcademically ineligible?
ReplyDeletecertainly can't be steroids, thats for sure. unless he was injecting them into his gut.
ReplyDeleteFeatherstone is a loser. No excuses for not going.
ReplyDeleteTexas wins over carribean 4-1!!!
ReplyDelete3:52 poster
ReplyDeleteDon't be an idiot----They are 2-0 going into tomorrow--CONGRATS TEAM SOMABUT!!!!!!!!!! Featherstone has his reason, don't think for a minute he doesn't want to be there. Life is not all about tennis!!Non-Rev tennis at that!!
If he's a loser, play him, then call him that----
Spineless
He let down his teammates. I agree, he's a loser.
ReplyDeleteLooking Good to get into the Semis,
ReplyDeleteNice bounce back by Fenn.
Long week-end, I hope they can hold it together.
Team Bob goes down, probably all over now.
ReplyDeleteLost both singles and Bin's doubles to New England. What's the story on Featherstone?
ReplyDeleteI do wonder about Chris as well. It is too bad Dencil wasn't playing in the NE match. Looking at those two singles guys records from NE I don't think it would have mattered if Featherstone was there or not, they needed to sweep doubles.
ReplyDeleteI think NE will do well tomorrow because I don't see them losing to the Caribbean but miracles do happen, here's to holding out hope.
Either way a pretty good run
10:08 am poster. Only thing going down is your wife on someone. Team Texas up 4-0. We need help but you're not here so go find your wife. If I was still single she'd be with me. Bin got us here. Where's your team?????
ReplyDeleteHave to give props to my boys from Arkansas now into the SF after sweeping Pool 8, with three 3-2 wins. Next they play FL in what could be a winnable match.
ReplyDeleteTough loss for the Texas guys against NE, the singles players looked tough as nails.
You don't think that Featherstone is better than Fenn or Taliat? He probably could have beat either one of the NE guys. But, I am sure he wanted to be there, seems like he could of flown down for part of it though? Even a day trip?
ReplyDeleteOf course, its easy to arm chair this thing, but I too wonder why Dencil wasn't playing as well. They new that was going to be their toughest match!
Weymer/Kemp never challenged.
Texas sneeks in back door!!! Caribbean beats New England. We're in!!!! Wow what drama
ReplyDeleteVamos puerto rico!!!!! Texas is back in!!!!
ReplyDeleteVamos puerto rico!!!!! Texas is back in!!!!
ReplyDeleteWow! They did sneak back in. Into the next day for HP
ReplyDeleteGood thing HP beat Carribean 4-1. Made New England think that Carribean Jerk was easier team than they were. Now NE gets to rest all their players tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteNew England pulls a Somabut.
NE #1 very tough kid track n got back everything vs a ex college player from Rico. Play eastern and they have dominated. But we should do ok. Jeromie
ReplyDeleteU punks are funny dogging on featherstone. He would smoke all of you and couldn't go because of family commitments. Its just tennis. Have fun on the couch while we are playing for a national championship.
ReplyDeletenew england played a couple reserves in dbls aga the caribbean and lost all 3 dbls. very dumb move by ne cap
ReplyDeletego tx!
"U punks are funny dogging on featherstone. He would smoke all of you and couldn't go because of family commitments. Its just tennis. Have fun on the couch while we are playing for a national championship."
ReplyDeleteDon't get too high on your horse, you should feel very lucky you even get to play tomorrow.
Bob team has gone as far as it can. You can't win semi-finals at Nats w/o a singles player.
ReplyDeletenice job for Bob and his team, especially for all the crap he catches from the arm-chair 4.0's here. Would not mind seeing a Southern v Texas Final, but both NE and FL have some studs for singles players.
ReplyDeleteSouthern has one solid singles guy, but depend greatly on their doubles.
Featherstone's sister is getting married this weekend. He made the right choice, my sister would skin me alive if I missed her wedding. Life is not all about 4.0 tennis league.
ReplyDeleteThanks to the well wishes this weekend. It's been a blast so far this weekend. We have a tough match this morning and look forward to leaving it all out on the court. For all the others, I guess we will never be able to get rid of the unnecessary bashing on the blog.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Dallas loses a close one 4-1, with three losses in third set tiebreaks.
ReplyDeleteThe other match was retired after splitting sets, likely because the team match was settled.
So close...
It was 1-3. With Jimmy still on up 5-2 in second set. 2 close 3rd set breakers.
ReplyDeletePlaying Florida now for third. Too bad Featherstone couldn't make it. Might have made a difference, might not have.
ReplyDeleteI'm an idiot. It was 3 3rd set breakers.
ReplyDeleteNo, we are happy for you guys. (and probably a tad bit jealous - I know I am.)
ReplyDeleteAnyone of the teams would of wish it was us out there. You all represented well, and did well.
You have to go with the team that goes. Obviously, Featherstone shouldn't miss his sister's wedding and dinner night before and he hates it as much as anyone.
It is what it is, like when people get hurt. It just happens.
Now, go win the party trophy. There is still time, but you gave some teams a big lead.
But in summary - Nicely done and Congrats for a good showing
ReplyDeleteand don't dwell on my typo - us was not meant in the context of lifetime.
ReplyDeleteTexas takes 3rd, beating Florida 3-2. Nice run guys.
ReplyDeleteEddies mixed team took second in corpus. Close, but no cigar.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone from Bob's team comment on the Florida and Eastern singles players, they seemed to dominate and were the difference in the SF's and Finals.
ReplyDeleteAlso Craig W. must be a heck of a player to beat Mork, who looked strong in the morning match.
Congrats to the Texas Team on 3rd Place and to my local guys for taking 2nd.
Have a safe trip home!!
Well done Bob Somabut and team. 3rd place at Nats is fantastic! Great job!!!
ReplyDeleteBob's team did Texas proud. Three of their lost lines against Eastern in the semi-finals were in 3rd set tiebreaks. With a little luck they might have taken 1st place.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Bob and crew!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAs B-Mo stated up above, I'm definitely a little jealous but even more proud and happy for you guys. You represented Texas well. Not easy making a trip without your best singles player - everyone else seemed to step up.
Also congrats to the Houston 5.0 team who brought silver back to Texas.
The 4.5 team will also try to bring some hardware and banners back to Texas :)
Once again, CONGRATS!!!!!

ReplyDeleteWell Done HP/ Bob! Great showing to everyone of you including those guys that got you there (like Featherstone) - it's a long journey. Definately jealous of the opportunity and it sounds like you were just a few points away from having the chance to play for it all.
ReplyDeleteAre we ever going to get a new 4.0 thread?
ReplyDeleteLOL!!!!!! See Cary's response in top right.... GONE FISHIN'!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou gots to be in the running as a captain if your going to get updates. shouldn't of knocked out the blog captain so fast out of the running. You should be ashamed of yourselves for knocking his team out. You only have yourselves to blame. Next time, you got to get his team to at least the playoffs to get a thread dipshit.
I have some down time on Friday so I will plan on getting something out but I did think following Bob's team last weekend was far more important and interesting than week 4 of our Fall season.
ReplyDeleteGreat job and congrats to those guys for their performance.
The fall league has been strange with the rainouts it is hard to get a read on flights when some teams have played 2 more matches than other teams. So far things have gone pretty according to plan. Eldorado is a bit of a surprise but not a huge surprise and Greenhill has been struggling. I knew the SWAT team would have to get lucky to keep our past success going but I am excited about some of our new guys and hopefully we can improve for April.
I know people like to call out cheaters, sandbaggers and others on this blog under the anon name but I would like to call out some nice guys from Dallas CC who crushed us last Saturday but not after getting some indoor courts for us and then buying us rounds of beer and food at their outdoor bar. Cool breeze, beer and football on TV. I did not want to leave and it reminded what our leagues were intended to be about in the first place. I hope this group stays in our league because we need more good guys like that around.
