A lot of meaningful matches occurred this week. The two teams I predicted to play for the fall championship lost their first matches and Northwood pulled the upset over Royal Oaks.
Flight A
Brookhaven quietly moved to 2-0 with a second win over a High Point team but the top teams of the flight are clearly Feldman and T Bar. Greenhill will have a tough time rebounding from the loss to T Bar. If they could somehow beat Feldman later this season, they could force a 3-way tie.
Oak Creek and T Bar play this Sunday for first place in the flight. Winner should be a lock to make the playoffs and most likely win their division.
Flight B
Northwood beat Royal Oaks in what should be the battle of the top two teams. I would say neither team probably had its best lineups but I expect both to make the playoffs. Bovermann and Lifetime squeaked by in their opening matches but both will have tougher tests in Week Two.
NANCY v. EDDIE has to be the feature match in terms of the blog. An improved Juhn team takes on Bovermann in what should separate the contender from pretender.
Flight C
High Point lost (I think) as did Brookhaven in huge upsets this week. The Lakes was expected to be a solid team but not quite to the level of the other two teams. I would like to give LB credit for winning but several of Brookhaven's top players were MIA.
A severely depleted Oak Creek team makes its season debut this week against Brookhaven. Lakes should stay undefeated and it will be interesting to see how LB does against Hackberry.
Predictions:
Feldman d. T Bar 3-2
Northwood over Lifetime 5-0 (You know I had to say it.)
Brookhaven rebounds to beat Oak Creek 4-1
Juhn over Bovermann 3-2
Thoughts?
TBar over Feldman 4-1
ReplyDeleteBranch over Brookhaven 3-2
Team Eddie over Team Nancy 4-1
Can we get a Nancy/Eddie singles matchup please?
More cowbell, more Eddie.
Hill always plays line 2 singles when he does play singles. I am guessing he will this week as Noel was at line 2 singles last week. Should be some trash talk on that one. I take Eddie at line 2 and Lifetime 3-2 for the match.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way that Eddie wants the ridicule that would follow a loss to Nancy so dont look for Eddie to want to play singles this week!
ReplyDeleteWhat time and where is this epic match?
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteNoel vs Lifetime is at 4:30pm at Lifetime on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWhy would Eddie (a 4.5 bump up) be ridiculed for losing to Corey (a 4.5 mainstay)?
ReplyDeleteFreeplay for Eddie. Corey would be big favorite and have more to lose.
Noel's team could not beat Lifetime 5-0 if Eddie put their 4.0 team in the line-up.
ReplyDeleteLifetime wins 3-2
Nice write up Corey. As long as Lifetime at the bare minimum beats Corey's line, all is good. I agree, no way that Lifetime will lose 5-0. I see a 3-2 at the end of the week.
ReplyDeleteBecause Eddie thinks one of the better 4.5s already dipshit!
ReplyDeleteI never go in expecting the team to win 5-0 actually. You never know how the lineups will shake out.
ReplyDelete"Because Eddie thinks one of the better 4.5s already dipshit!"
ReplyDeleteHe might be. There are a lot of weak 4.5s ou there.
True, true...
ReplyDeleteNancy can definitely beat Eddie. No question.
ReplyDeleteAfter last week, any outcomes seem possible.
ReplyDeleteLakes over HP 4-1 was certainly the biggest surprise of the week. BH unable to come up with the win despite a defaulted line was right behind, but only because of the questionable lineup put out. Don't know if BH players weren't available or they just overlooked the LBH team. How is Dutta back at 4.5 by the way? With his tennis background, that guy has no business playing at the 4.5 level.
Should definitely be very interesting to see how OC-Herget will do this season. It will be a tough test against what should be a motivated BH team.
Lifetime will beat Northwood. Northwood has weak players all around.
ReplyDeleteYou're right. Those Northwood players certainly have no history of success.
ReplyDeleteThere is alot of LTF talk now on the 4.5 thread when it used to be on the 4.0 thread. Gee, I wonder who likes to hear about themselves?
ReplyDeleteMost of the LTF talk is from guys not even on the team, but love to start trash.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that comment. As a member of the LTF team, I can tell you that Eddie is really the only one that talks trash and he is just doing it to make the blog interesting. He does like his team, but just has fun with this.
ReplyDeleteBTW... LTF will find a way to pull out a tight one on Sunday. 3-2 with a couple of those matches going 3 sets.
Eddie will disagree with one part of that. It is "lifetimer" that is the trash talker, not Eddie.
ReplyDeleteUntil there is a visual confirmation picture of "lifetimer" being Eddie he will never admit to being lifetimer to the very end. Just ask him, "Are you lifetimer?"
Rumour has it the fake Nancy Noel will be showing up at the tennis match as well.
"Most of the LTF talk is from guys not even on the team, but want to make the blog more interesting.
ReplyDeleteFixed It For You
I am curious about one thing.
ReplyDeleteCoreDawg stated in his season preview that HP/Somabut should finish in the top half, and that Brookhaven/Ludwig would be "an easy out for opponents." Then, Brookhaven goes out and posts an 8-2 record against these two teams with no real response other than "Brookhaven quietly moved to 2-0 with a second with over a High Point team."
I don't know, but maybe CoreDawg should have shown a little respect to the Brookhaven team since he didn't know most of the players.
I also wonder if he is eating any "Humble Pie" as a result.
Yeah, I'm really broken up about that mistake. I can't sleep at night. I'm still not considering Brookhaven as a threat to make the playoffs. I'm much more surprised that the two teams I picked to play for the fall championship lost their first matches. Maybe picking my own team in past seasons has been my mistake. Whoever I pick loses every time.
ReplyDeleteThere is no way that 8:27AM can know if it is someone on the LTF team that is saying some/all/none of the stuff about LTF. That's part of the fun and curse of having the anons.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think its because there is so much boasting/bragging by the lifetime guys and there out of control egos that brings the hate!
If they would all just shutup and play they would all be better off!
I'm afraid that LTF will be taking it on the chin this week against a pretty strong team.
ReplyDelete1:47 - you are funny. Maybe Corey should just say every team in each flight is awesome in his next preview. Then we can declare everyone co-champions and give out ribbons.
ReplyDeleteCorey,
ReplyDeleteI am the stand in captain right now. Eddie is coming up from Mixed Sectionals. If it rains, call me/text me at 214.893.8953 Let's make a decision by 3 pm or sooner if its raining.
That sounds good Brian. I'm not too optimistic that we will get to play.
ReplyDeleteDid Lifetime win?
ReplyDeleteSince you asked, we won 5-0. Very tough conditions with rain coming down for most of the match. I had a very tough match with John Vacalis and all the Lifetime guys were great, as I expected. I'm sure the longer they play 4.5, the better their team will do. They were missing a couple of their top guys today which helped us.
ReplyDeleteWe weren't missing a couple of our top guys. We just got our asses handed to us.
ReplyDeleteThere is a big difference from 4.0 Sectionals and 4.5 you guys. Can't believe ur guy beat Johan 2 2 (2 3?) Unbelieveable.
Wasn't that much difference between 3.5 sectionals and 4.0 tennis. Big difference between 4.0 sectionals and 4.5 tennis (or at least you guys).
Looks like we have some work to do. Ben (Hawkins?) is a beast at the net. Great hands. If only we could have beat that skinny kid w red hair on line 1 singles.
This team will get better. Just have to keep playing tougher opponents and get better.
Dutta beats down Slezak 6-2, 6-0. After doing the same to Slezak's former teammate, Kern, in the fall playoffs 6-1, 6-1, it's looking like he's not going to remain in 4.5 much longer.
ReplyDeleteBrookhaven-Harllee 3-2 over OC-Herget in what must've been a very good match.
Thanks for the compliments. Andy is closer to 5.0 than 4.5 so Johan shouldn't feel bad. I just lucked out that Andy was rusty when he first started and now he is playing closer to his true self. I do feel like the jump from 4.0 to 4.5 is a lot tougher though. Almost everybody in 4.5 played college tennis at some level.
ReplyDeleteOur team was actually impressed by your guys and one of them said he thought you had a better team than Royal Oaks.
Ben is amazing at the net. You should play him in singles. It's nearly impossible to get a passing shot by him.
Good luck the rest of the way!!
NW ekes out RO in a superbreaker in the deciding line last week and beats LTF 5-0 with only one line losing more than five games this week. It's difficult to see LTF being described as on RO's level based on those results.
ReplyDeleteLTF lost and needs to get better before we face the other big boy in our flight to finish the season. We have a lot of work to put in before that match. Hell, we have our hands full every week until then. WE WILL GET BETTER!!
ReplyDeleteEddie.
hard to talk about anything, when you can't even get on the court to play. I think saw rust on my racket today behind all the cobwebs.
ReplyDeleteYep I got a new racket last Saturday on ebay and I am dying to use it. I am hoping tomorrow will work out.
ReplyDeletei must admit it is hard for me to talk trash when i don't know any of the teams and players. not to mention we are still a work in progress at this level. should be back to being my obnoxious self by the spring.
ReplyDelete^

Don't let not knowing what you are talking about slow you down. This board needs some action.
Dutta blows. He belongs at 4.5 at best. The guy keeps running into players that are managing their rating. Slezac losing 0 and 2 in the fall is no suprise. too bad he cost his team this time.
ReplyDeleteTalking trash when you don't know what you're talking about is even more entertaining. Have you seen my posts? I barely know half the players this season.
ReplyDeleteI love the post Eddie. Very funny.
ReplyDeleteRight, Slezak is going to intentionally lose and cost his team a critical match in a very tough flight ...
ReplyDeleteWho doubted Bartlett’s Brookhaven 4.0 team? No doubters today.. That line 1 doubles, tough team. The one guy's got game.
