Friday
High Point v. Huffhines @ Brookhaven
This is a rematch of the regular season matchup that High Point won 4-1. Two of those wins were 10-8 third-set tiebreakers so I don't think either team is expecting an easy win. Always interesting to see which team makes the proper adjustments in the rematch.
Saturday
Huffhines v. Royal Oaks @ LB Houston
Rematch from the fall championships that Huffhines won 3-2. Quite different rosters for each team with ROCC adding Andrus and Kelley and Huffhines adding Xu and Hawkins. Unless Huffhines gets blown out against High Point, this match will be crucial for both teams. Molina seems like a sure win but I'm not quite ready to give Andrus that same distinction.
Sunday
High Point v. Royal Oaks @ Greenhill
Interesting matchup between two strong teams. Huffhines could make this match meaningless if they win their first two but otherwise, the championship will be on the line. I give ROCC the clear advantage in singles but I would say the opposite for dubs. I think it will come down to which team gets the right matchups in doubles.
Please keep your discussion limited to the 4.5 QT.
I think High point will do well next weekend. I know a few of the players and they seem to be strong 4.5.
ReplyDeleteSorry Corey. Andrus or Kelley are better than Molina. You better find a way to sweep doubles.
ReplyDeleteTrue, neither HP or Huffines have the singles to compete with RO. You can't win in the playoffs without an automatic singles player. Doubles can go either way with the super breakers. I like RO to win the QT and make Sectionals as the wild card.
ReplyDeleteI agree, RO is too strong in singles and that should serve as the difference. Although all of these teams have good doubles teams, on any given day a few points will swing an entire set leaving many of these doubles matches to be decided in a super tb.
ReplyDeleteThe RO singles advantage means that they usually only need to win 1 of 3 lines of doubles to win the match. They are quite good about moving their roster around between Lines 1-3 in doubles trying to find that single win in doubles
Huge advantage to RO going in but no guarantees - that is why they play them out.
And just to underscore the Royal Oaks singles advantage, they went 16-2 in singles lines this year.
ReplyDeleteThey only lost to OC Feldman (Dustin Viktorin) and OC Branch (Gene Davis).
In the OC Branch match, RO threw out one of their juniors at Line 1 (the guy went 1-4 this year) and he got smoked by Davis. Looks like that was a "throw away" line probably due to problems fielding a team for that meaningless match
Interesting statistic about RO singles record. I looked up the other teams singles results just to compare:
ReplyDelete- Huffines: 11-7
- Brookhavne: 11-7
- High Point: 13-5
- Royal Oaks: 16-2
Since strong singles performance is a major advantage, RO and HP should be the favorites going into QT.
You also have to recognize that BH added a perennial 5.0 rated player right near the end of the season. They've certainly improved their chances in singles.
ReplyDeleteBH isn't in the QT, so won't be seen until the DCC.
"Always interesting to see which team makes the proper adjustments in the rematch."
ReplyDeleteA "proper adjustment" is also dependent upon what the other team does so the end result is typically outside one captain's control. The more important issue as usual generally comes down to who happens to be playing better on that day in the matchups.
BH had the strongest singles in flight B. HP and Huffines singles are actually really close, but edge from past results goes to HP.
ReplyDeleteWho is the William Scott guy that beat Gene Davis in some tournament in Jan? Does anyone know anything about him? He must be good cause Gene never looses at singles!
ReplyDeleteI expect Huffhines to lose both matches 4-1.
ReplyDeleteNo wild cards in 4.5 per the other sites. Exactly 12 4.5 leagues in Texas this year? WTF?
ReplyDeleteToo bad Greenhill not in the mix - finished 15-3 in singles this season.
ReplyDeleteHuffines 3 HP 2
ReplyDeleteNancys team wins the re-match with Nancy playing and winning a singles line this time.
RO 3 Huffines 2
RO sweeps singles and captures 1 doubles line. Although I'm cheering for Nancys team. Would like to see an end to all that "major league/minor league" shit.
RO 3 HP 2
Solid doubles not enough to offset big RO edge in singles. HP is a year away.
makes no sense to only have 12 teams at Sectionals, when you have 4 large cities with 2nd place teams who could beat most of the smaller locals.
ReplyDeleteGive a WC to Dallas, Austin, Houston, and SA and forget this best 2nd place team in a pool advances to SF's. Plan stupid decision on the part of TTA.
I like it. 1 Dallas team to sectionals. At least the Branch matches against Feldman, Royal Oaks and Brookhaven in the DCC will be interesting and meaningful.
ReplyDeleteI agree with anon 1:38pm. Dallas has 20 level 4.5 teams. Austin has 8, FTW has 5, SanAnton 6 all the rest much less. Dallas should get at least 1 and maybe 2 wildcards. Dumb call by TTA.
ReplyDeleteHOW DID YOU GUYS FIND OUT ABOUT THE WILD CARD SITUATION?
ReplyDelete# of 4.5 Teams:
ReplyDeleteDallas 20
Houston 14
Austin 8
San Antonio 6
Fort Worth 5
NETX, Waco, Amarillo, Corpus, SETX all 3
San Angelo 1
Does San Angelo get to go to Sectionals with only 1 team??? Those bastards should be excluded and Dallas should be given a wildcard.
Which group contains the Abilene team? NETX?
ReplyDeleteWhoever started this WC rumor is an evil bastard. WCs have yet to be determined
ReplyDeleteAbilene and San Angelo will play in the QT to see who goes to Sectionals. Schedule comes out the 8th, that's when things will be official but if it is the 12 team format, no WCs.
ReplyDeletemight as well mark a line through San Angelo and mark down Abilene
ReplyDeleteAgreed
ReplyDeleteWhat's the 12 team format? Is it 3 flights of 4 teams?
ReplyDeleteThree flights always sucks with a 2nd place team adsvancing from one of the flights.
ReplyDeleteIt's better than 4 flights of 3 teams. I think 12 is the right number for 4.5 and 20 is the right number for 3.5 and 4.0.
ReplyDelete16 would be a better number for 3.5 and 4.0
ReplyDeleteWhen they select a wild card, is the team they choose the 2nd place team at City's? For example, in 3.5 they will have 5 teams in the Cities, do the best record and 2nd best record advance or do they take other things into consideration?
ReplyDeletetop 2 teams in the standings based on tennislinks calculation, just like everything else.
ReplyDeleteOddly enough, the wildcard is chosen by "taking other things in consideration." Once the winner of a flight is determined, the captains of the remaining teams elect one representative to run an obstacle course at Brookhaven. Oddly enough this obstacle course involves foot speed, climbing a fence, hitting four forehands in the court off the ball machine, a pitcher of beer, one of the sand traps on their golf, a dunking booth and (and this is the weird part) some farm animals. Not sure what they are used for and I was told not to ask. Anyway, the winner of this obstacle race gets his team in sectionals as the wild card. See Texas Tennis Association Article 7: Rule 4: Part 3(a) for the exact course description and requirements. Good luck to you. I hope your team wins 1st place and, if not, you are not elected as the team rep for the obstacle course.
ReplyDeleteQT WONT BE VERY EXCITING THIS YEAR
ReplyDeleteMatching a couple minor league teams with a major league team doesnt provide much drama. RO wins the QT very easily assuming their best players are avail to play.
In fact the best teams have already played a round robin. Our major league contained the TOP 3 TEAMS FROM LAST YEARS DCC PLUS THE FALL WINNER. All the other teams are irrelevant.
actually it worked out pretty well this year. we had a "competitive" flight and a "social" flight. maybe thats the way to go in the future. have the best teams in one flight and the weaker teams in the other flight. that way every gets better matches.
ReplyDeleteI am pulling for HP
ReplyDeleteA COMPETITIVE FLIGHT & A SOCIAL FLIGHT MAKES A LOT OF SENSE. SOUNDS LIKE A WIN/WIN FOR EVERYONE. WINNER OF COMPETITVE FLIGHT GOS TO SECTIONALS. WINNER OF SOCIAL FLIGHT GETS A TROPHY OR KEG OR SOMETHING.
ReplyDeleteYou've just severely hurt your chances for ever being asked to play for RO or Huffhines! Pining for a HP roster spot in the near future?
ReplyDeleteI would be careful w/ Hiffines in the hunt. Those guys should have had several players DQ last fall but somehow made it through. I'm just telling you they are "TankMasters & Sandbagger Masters". In fact, I would like to see them make through sectional, because they will!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your opinion John.
ReplyDeleteHeard RO will be missing their #2 sgl player at QT. Vacation WTF? This maybe chance for Hai or Nancy to pull off the upset
ReplyDeleteTHE MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM RO WILL STILL WIN QT EVEN ONE MAN SHORT. NANCYS TEAM IS NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME.
ReplyDeleteThe DTA should consider allowing BH/Harlee to play in the 4.5 majors next spring. They have a strong team.
ReplyDeleteHuffines is missing key players this weekend. I expect them to lose 5-0 to high point.
ReplyDeleteWe probably won't even show up. It's amazing we won a match all season.
ReplyDeleteMaybe its gay flight straight flight
ReplyDeleteShut the f^^K up ! I'm pretty sure you're not involved in either tournament (QT and/or the city championship); if you were I would expect a little more class from the competitors, but what this blog has revealed is a whole bunch of classless idiots. Stop whining about the regular season brackets being uneven; the best team will represent Dallas at sectionals, but not necessarily with class, but with arrogance, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteDRASOR
It doesn't matter who wins the HP/Huffines match because RO will destroy both of them.
ReplyDeleteAre you playing? Didn't think so...
ReplyDeleteDRASOR
I think HP is going to win QT then Cities and go on to Sectionals! Damm I cant wait until Sectionals! Go HP!!
ReplyDeleteYours truely,
Phy
Calm down DRaz you are with the HP guys now, you don't have to be all up tight now that you aren't with Springpark.
ReplyDeleteBTW, RO will crush all of the QT teams and yes Dan I am playing, see you on the court.
-RO
Just to be different, I'll say HP beats RO 3-2 by sweeping doubles. All three of the teams look to be pretty evenly matched though. I wouldn't be surprised if they all went 1-1.
ReplyDeleteThe major/minor talk is silly. You can bet nobody in Flight A will be overlooking the Flight B teams.
Vik
Ok, Here are some major guesses at who may play in the QT with their record this year. It certainly has many mistakes that you can correct but it's a starting point. I would think RO will at least split singles every time and maybe sweep. It appears as though it will be difficult for Huffines to sweep singles against either. In doubles as you can tell I'm really guessing on partners but Huffines has some solid teams that play together often while the others trade out partners.
ReplyDeleteSo if this were who played how would you rank the singles and doubles individually.
Singles
RO
Andrus (2-0)
Molina (6-0)
HP
Phy (1-0)
Keller (6-1)
Huff
Xu (5-3)
Noel (5-2)
Doubles
RO
Rauschuber/Walters (1-1)
Flores/Zachary (3-0)
Webb/Kelley (1-0)
HP
Laukhuf/Tankersley (1-0)
Hollywood/Leija (3-1)
Hai/Marasigan (1-0)
Huff
Hawkins/Mason (4-1)
McCord/Wells (4-0)
Fair/Young (5-1)
Damn Kern - I know that took some time to pull in each teams record.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone that knows - why is Jean Nguyen called "Hollywood". Is he an Asian Porn star?
in this 2 weeks, yall will call us HP/Broom cause we're going to sweep every team, QTs and Cities!
ReplyDeleteyall better watch out, cause sometimes love comes around and it'll knock you down, knock you down!... just get back up so I can knock you down, knock you down! hahaha
Kern eats tennis. Don't have nothing else better to do but to look up records and try to figure out line ups, etc. know it all, kissy kiss.
ReplyDeletePhy quite the talker.
ReplyDeletedrazor really sticks up for the gay guys doesnt he???????
ReplyDeleteSome of you guys have no clue. RO will sweep both singles plus take at least 1 and probably 2 doubles against either of the minor league teams. It doesnt take a genius to see how this will play out.
ReplyDeleteWell obviously you ain't close to a genius so I wouldn't know.
ReplyDeleteWho are you anyways? lets bet on this? or u ain't that sure to make alil wager?
Ok, Is it just me or does alot of this trash talk sound familiar?
ReplyDeleteNow I like trash talk as good as the next if it is done in good humor and said as if you were standing in front of the player you are bashing.
Come on guys and have the "Wilson's" to sign your name if you have anything reasonably intelligent to say. Ok I may not fit in that category, but I will sign my name just the same.
All this talk of the competition not going to be even close went on before the fall playoffs and look how close that turned out. Also I know several teams that wish they had won "the doesn't matter fall".
I can't get a good read on which QT team has the edge. Prob RO if they get everyone out, but HP has been working hard, and Huffines has some players that don't quit.
As usual I have to defend DRasor(lobs more than I do) as he proves his points on the court. Hope to get out to see how it all pans out.
As for city's, it should be really good stuff. We won't be favored, but we will compete and see what we see. I could go on and on, but usually my long-winded comments kill the blog anyway.
Stay Cool, The Old(55,crap) Buffalo
I don't know Phy, but i like him. A breath of fresh air on this blog. Keep it up Phy.
ReplyDeleteI hate to say this, but this blog would not exsist if not for the dumbass anon comments. When they were kicked off, nobody except for Kern and Corey spoke up.
ReplyDeletePhy and Eddie are two of my favorite posters. They just come out and say it how they feel, although Phy can back it up a little more. If he can back up the talk and play some singles, HP will be very tough. In the end I think everyone is just having fun and some take it a little more serious than others. Good luck to all. I hope to catch a little of it.
ReplyDeleteIt does get tiring listening to Nancy all the time.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't a team made up of mostly teaching pro's be the clear favorite. Pros should dominate the Joes at 4.5. Go R.O.
ReplyDeleteAndrus is a recent HS graduate and not Phy's level. I would think Phy would take him out in singles if they matched up.
ReplyDeleteI think Andrus will play doubles this weekend. Better doubles player than singles.
ReplyDeleteHow did Royal Oaks' pros fare last season? Oh, that's right. They went 0-3 in fall DCC. Nobody is talking about that though. Apparently they are so much better this season because of all their practice in the major league. Good analysis as always Jason and I would like to see you out there this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI think the first match on Friday is a toss-up but I put the winner of that match as a slight favorite over ROCC. I also would not be surprised with a 3-way tie at 1-1 though.
RO wins this going away.
ReplyDeleteSorry HP and Team Corey.
Cary,
ReplyDeleteyou want to put some money on that prediction?
Sounds to me like Phy has a little gambling problem, why does everything have to come down to a wager? I seem to remember that it was a "gambling" issue (trip to the casino) that cost your trilevel team a chance at the playoffs... Come on brother get some help before its to late!
ReplyDeletehahahah....can you help me out brother?! thanks for beleiving im the MAN to carry the team. cause I am the MAN! now, do you want to bet or what? haha
ReplyDeletewhy cant you identify yourself like Cary? got more respect for her already. but still we will prove yall wrong.
ReplyDeleteAgain, do you want to bet now? doesn't have to be in Dollars. c'mon buddy lets make it alil interesting...all this talk doesnt mean much with nothing on the line.
Hey Corey,
ReplyDeleteI'm talking about RO not dominating. It is just hard to tell with the other rambling I mixed in there.
I don't see the 1-1 across the board though. Your team is probably the underdog and will have the chance to pull off the upset.
Most QT, City, & Sectionals come down to someone's 10 point breaker. Senior 4.5 City did this year & DRasor & Big O delivered.
Good Luck this weekend!
Buffalo
Hmm. Wager. Of course, sorry I will be rooting for you guys but I just don't see it happening unless you all can come up big in doubles which is possible.
ReplyDeletePhy,
You all lose and you have to partner with me in a challenge match v. Sisk/Nancy
Phy,
ReplyDeleteI will take that bet.
Not because I don't think you have a chance, but I would like to see DRasor at City next weekend.
So prove us all wrong and go 2-0.
I don't think you can do it.
Buffalo
Phy goes 0-2 this weekend if he plays singles. He goes 1-1 if he plays doubles. Bank on it.
ReplyDeletehahaha....ok Cary, but what if I win? you buy my team drinks for Cities(24pack Gatorade). OK?
ReplyDeleteanon, you're right buddy, i will get my but woop if i played singles. but why singles when we have the Dan Keller the "tasmanian devil"
Here's my prediction for the weekend.
ReplyDeleteFriday
HP splits singles, HP wins the first doubles off the court (Phy's line), last two go to 10 pointers. Huff wins the first to even it up and HP pulls out the last so Hollywood does a victory dance.
Saturday
RO sweeps singles. Huff wins the first two doubles off the court. However, RO pulls through the last doubles to win 3-2.
Sunday
Two of the three doubles go to ten pointers but HP finds a way to take two of the three lines. In singles RO wins the first line off and it comes down to whether Phynomenal is in the singles line-up. If he is, he backs up the talk and wins a ten pointer if not RO sweeps singles and goes to DCC.
Should be some good tennis and no matter what a strong team will be added to the next weekends mix.
Now Kern - the other day you predicted Phy would be playing singles and now you have him at a doubles line - which is it. Who does HP put with Keller at singles.
ReplyDeleteWill Corey play or go with his hidden ace Mccord?? Can't wait to see the matchups.
ReplyDeleteMcCord played doubles all season but he has some impressive wins at singles. I think you will see McCord at singles to try and offset the great Phynom. Who else do they have who could beat Phy at night when heat is not a factor? Plus Wells doesn't need McCord at doubles because he can carry anyone. Huffhines wins the rematch 4-1 with this lineup
ReplyDeleteXU and McCord at singles
Fair/Young
Mason/Hawkins
Wells/?? doesn't matter cause he is a stud
HP take note of my last post because this is the lineup Huffines will use. Guarantee it!!!! Now can you beat them knowing their lineup??
ReplyDeleteAnon - - - SHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteA Huffines lineup without Nancy? - Inconceivable that he would finally realize he was his own teams weakness.
ReplyDeleteWho is this Phynom guy and who has he beaten ? Sounds like the Don King of Mens 4.5 in Dallas, which i think is great by the way. I just want to know if he is any good or just funny. Can someone give a scouting report.
ReplyDeletePhy's a decent 4.0 player. He's all talk!
ReplyDeletePhy might be a lot of things, but 4.0 is not one of them. Much close to a 5.0 than a 4.0.
ReplyDeletePhy is very tough and he seems to play better the more fired up he is. Unfortunately most of my predictions are pure guesses since I haven't seen most of the guys play.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Phy in singles, I am of the opinion that it's too hard to rely on 3 doubles wins and that is why I would play Phy in singles against RO while Vik thinks they'll win all the doubles so he would play him there I'm guessing.
I don't think CoreDawg will be sitting.
CAN SOMEONE CONTACT THE DTA AND TELL THEM HERE ARE THE TEAMS WE WANT TO SEE IN THE A LEAGUE IN 2010:
ReplyDeleteOC/Branch
OC/Feldman
RO/Rothwell
T Bar /Schnittker
BH/Harlee
HP/Nguyen
Wouldnt that be great! The DTA didnt quite get it right this year. But I think BH and HP have shown enough to be included with the big boys in 2010.
Great Idea - that would be a fun league with competitive matches. I say we ask them to do that.
ReplyDeleteWell with only 3 teams from each flight making the playoffs, I can think of 3 or 4 of those teams that really wouldn't like that arrangement. I am also sure Huffines would love the free pass to the DCC.
ReplyDeletehahaha...I haven't beaten anyone and yes I am that funny! thank you!.
ReplyDeletethat's the best line up you can think of? well then I should tell Captain Nguyen to put in or C squad. Im part of the C squad by the way.
And Kern, Thanks for an accurate prediction...I like that, everything is correct except the last part...the part where "i win in a ten point tie breaker" except it will be straight sets and that it will happen at cities final against branch.... HP goes to Sectionals! hellsyea Game over! Next! 2010 here we come.. finally part of the major league! YESSS!!!
you want some scouting report? come out this friday at 8 Brookhaven, Sunday 11am Greenhill.
ReplyDeletelooking forward to seeing all the scouts out there...feels great to be scouted!! i've never been scouted b4. awesome! see yall soon!! Go HP!!!
Doubt anyone comes out to Greenhill on Sunday - the QT will probably be decided by then.
ReplyDeleteMan, somebody has been posting our lineups. Wells can carry anybody in dubs but I don't think I fall into the anybody category. I'm ready for the talk to be over and the matches to be played.
ReplyDeleteAs always it will come down to which team can get all of their top guys to play and who can win the tiebreaks. I expect to see at least 5 tiebreaks over the weekend.
thats funny Phy.
ReplyDeletewon't even come close to happenin, but think it is neat when children are allowed to dream.
Don't forget to factor in the location of the Saturday match. LB Houston.....worst place to play in Dallas.
ReplyDeleteLBH is a horrible dump. DTA should try to find another site.
ReplyDeleteAgreed - even Durty Garland is nicer than LBH.
ReplyDeleteThey even play some Sectional matches at LBH _ which is really a bad decsion. I guess they do it because LBH has cheap hourly rates. But my god, what a crummy place to play a Sectional match!
ReplyDeleteTentative sectional schedule is up for all levels
ReplyDeletehttp://www.texas.usta.com/Texas/Global/News/USA%20League%20Tennis/2009/2009_Adult_League_Championships.aspx
Group 1:
ReplyDeleteDallas
Amarillo
Corpus
Wild Houston
Group 2:
Waco
San Antonio
Austin
SETX
Group 3:
Houston
Ft. Worth
QT (Abilene probably)
NETX
Just a guess, but Waco will not make a final 4 run like they did last year. Some matches are scheduled for 7 am. ouch! Is it light out at that time?
Group of Death - Group 2
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow!
Ya, those guys must have pissed off Tosha.
ReplyDeleteWho feels more screwed, Austin's #2 team or whoever finishes second in Dallas?
ReplyDeleteneither - if they want to go to sectionals, win cities.
ReplyDeletethere will be a second wild care added anyway - some team will drop out like everyear.
There is always "Little State" for those second place teams. That's gotta feel kinda the same to win that team tournament. kinda the NIT tournament v. the NCAA tournament in college basketball.
ReplyDeleteDallas #2 is more screwed. We have like 20 teams. 1 team out of our 20 goes.
ReplyDeleteLMAO nice to see you posting Phy!
ReplyDeleteRO loses a maximum of 2 lines this weekend and only if Rothwell plays himself.
ReplyDeleteAustin #2 is clearly better than any of the Dallas teams (maybe even with Branch) so I would say they have the biggest complaint.
ReplyDeleteStill crazy a city with 20 teams does not get more than 1 team into sectionals. They should let the non-Branch Dallas teams play in the QT tournament.
are you kidding - Austin # 2 guys aren't good enough to be on the Austin # 1 team. Austin # 1 is the Austin all-star team and the # 2 team would not make the dallas QT.
ReplyDeleteDallas deserves better than one team, but who cares - just win it.
also - nice job, TTA, letting Houston and the Houston #2 see the draws before their city tourney. I am sure that Red and group are loving life, knowing that they can hand-pick which draw they want to go into at sectionals.
I don't disagree that Dallas deserves another team, but trust me when I say that Austin #2 team is good.
ReplyDeleteIs the #1 team in Austin Austinwild or Old School?? It appears they play this weekend to decide the league winner.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I say Dallas #2 gets screwed over more than Austin #2 is that the TTA is obviously not trying to get the best 12 teams at sectionals. They are trying to get the best cross the board representation. Having just 1 team out of 20 is not that goal. In a perfect world, the top 12 teams would be at Sectionals. Too bad the 2nd place Austin team might just be the 2nd best team in the state. Tough luck to them. Lots of pressure on this Saturday's match in Austin.
ReplyDeleteWell Austin, Dallas and SA #2's should all be pissed right now that Houston got the WC even after they skipped out last year with their WC.
ReplyDeleteAlso does anyone else find it ironic that the piece of crap in SA did all that tanking the last two years only feel like they got ****ed by an elephant. Screw you Torres, you cheating bastard
Amarillo will win it all - take it to the bank.
ReplyDelete"Also does anyone else find it ironic that the piece of crap in SA did all that tanking the last two years only feel like they got ****ed by an elephant."
ReplyDeleteWhat's the full story here? I remember hearing that the team unapologetically tanked to try to make it back down to 4.5. What happened since that time?
Amarillo huh? Why don't you enlighten the rest of us as to why you would say that?
ReplyDeleteYea, Torres is a punk ass chump!Nobody is going to feel sorry for that guy. You have to hand it to Miller, Arringdale, Hildebrandt, and the rest for bringing a team to the match this year and giving San Antonio a team that it can be proud to get behind.
ReplyDeleteAll the pressure is on Austin Wild this weekend against Old School. They have to win despite beating Old School in the first match. I still think Austin Wild will win in a must win situation, but it will be close. You can bet that Davis will bring his team out. Too bad for the loser of that match, because they are one of the top teams in the state, that will not get to play in Dallas - Ouch!
ReplyDeleteAmarillo has one singles player (Zavala) and that is about it. Sorry - they go nowhere.
ReplyDeleteAmarrillo won't even make the drive to Dallas.
ReplyDeleteWell Corey snuck out the win tonight 3-2 over Phy nd teammates. Guess we will not hear the end of it now.
ReplyDeletePhy - say it ain't so. What were scores.
ReplyDeleteYeah, those Huffhines singles players suck. Who would have thought that Fair and Young would lose and we could still win? Seriously, it was a competitive match that could have gone either way (just like all the matches we've played against HP). Great sportsmanship for all players involved (except line 2 dubs) and good luck to HP on Sunday.
ReplyDelete1S Andy def. Dan 6-4, 6-1
2S Corey def. Komson 0-6 (oops), 6-3, 10-5
1D Phy/Clint d. Fair/Young 6-1, 7-5
2D Blake/Ben d. Rasor/Jean 6-4, 2-6, 13-11
3D Jimme/Hai d. Jeff/Trey 6-7, 6-2, 10-8
I actually got a chance to watch some of all 3 doubles matches and it was really high-level tennis. I have to say that Jimme was probably the best player out there tonight. I don't believe he missed a shot in the 20-30 minutes I was watching and was all over the net. Very clutch!
Sidenote: Did any HP players have any issues with the 3.5 women watching from the patio? They were all over us every time we cheered our team on and I don't think they had a valid point. Anybody have any thoughts?
Nice match I guess HP/Nguyen losing is my consolation prize for losing tonight in the 4.0 QT.
ReplyDeleteDon't give up hope Phy and crew though we haven't yet.
Wow, I can't believe it! How did HP let this one slip away. That sucks! What happened to the other top players, Tankersley and Leija. Why didn't they play? I guess this proves that HP belongs in the minor league. Oh hint: Don't ever play strong 4.0 Hollychoke in big matches.
ReplyDeleteSounds like they just eliminated each other to me.
ReplyDeleteHow did Huffhines win this match? Fair, Young, and Wells all lose and they still win. That's impressive. Where was Mccord? Are they saving him for tomorrow against Molina? Royal Oaks beats Huffhines 4-1 tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened tonight with line 2 doubles regarding sportsmanship? Jean is the nicest guy I have played against.
ReplyDeletewho are you?
ReplyDeleteThey acted like crap when I played them too!
ReplyDeleteFair and Young will go 0-2

ReplyDeleteHP would have won easy with Ed and Tankersly in the lineup. I'm sure if available they would have played and Phy would have been at singles. That's a 4-1 or 5-0 win. All speculation now cause Huffines won. Royal Oaks will beat huffines 4-1.
ReplyDeleteRasor is awesome. He almost beat Mason who is half his age.
ReplyDeleteHai is a hell of a captain. He is a quiet leader who just goes out and wins matches against tough teams. I'm impressed how fast he took a bunch of 4.0 bump ups to the next level of playoffs. Almost beating Huffines again
ReplyDeleteafter beating them in the regular season Thats tough to do. Class guy and captain. Keep up the hard work captain
I act like I'm 12 on the tennis court. Who am I???
ReplyDeleteAs a neutral observer it appears these 2 teams for the most part are all good guys and get along really well. The way Rasor behaved tonight was unacceptable. I can understand being competetive, but he was flat being an ass and it had to be real embarrassing for Jean to have to put up with it.
ReplyDeleteIts a shame such a good match - and it was a hell of a match to watch, had to be overshadowed by one guys bad behavior.
Grow up Rasor and stop making your team look bad.

ReplyDeleteCongrats to Huffines for pulling out a tough win, especially sweeping singles. Sounded like it was an exciting match even though neither team was full strength. A 3-2 RO win today makes things very interesting. Can Huffines keep the singles going today and silence the naysayers?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the big win CoreDawg. I also agree with the post about Hai and the 4.0 bump ups, impressive job
Good God, Dallas 4.5 tennis sucks.
ReplyDeleteI hate that our match was perceived as being overshadowed by "MY" poor behavior; you normally won't hear me say a word the whole match but after we were questioned after 3-4 close calls, it's a little much. I give the the benefit of the doubt to opponent more often than I get in return. I don't care if it's "their right" to question the call, when you question in such a way that you have this look of disbelief everytime, it's insulting. Bottom line, at my age, which is way older than anyone else on the court last night, I'm not going to take crap from anyone and I don't give a crap anymore about what people think of me. I shouldn't have let that get under my skin last night, but it did. For those that are saying I'm an asshole; maybe, sometimes, and especially when I'm crossed, but don't claim to be the innocent victim on the other side. I'll apologize to my team for letting them down, we definitely had chances to win, but I'll only answer to myself for the other. My teammates on all the teams I've been apart of know that I lay it all out there for them. BTW, this is absolutely the last time I read or enter anything on this blog (no great loss I know) but when a majority of the bloggers post their thoughts (some of them humorous, but many hateful, arrongant and offensive) anonymously, it's become a site where the chickenshit can have a voice. Adios .

ReplyDeleteHow dare you question my calls - I am going to hit my next serve at the net man and see how he likes it.
ReplyDeleteYou are all class old man.
CONGRATS TO NANCY FOR A COMEBACK SGL WIN AFTER LOSING 1ST 0-6.
ReplyDeleteThe loud kid on line 2 doubles had a head way bigger than his game. I had my son at the game and was appauled at the antics of the young white kid. My son and I had no affiliation with either team but I was rooting for the Indian and old man. The old guy did nothing on the court that I wouldn't so after a young classless cocky kid kept questioning calls. If it's out then it's out. I told my son that is a prime example of what
ReplyDeletenot to be on a tennis court. I'm supriaed any captain would allow him to play for his or her team.
Actually the guy playing was Asian, Hollywood and Coach Rasor against Hawkins and Mason. Hawkins is a good guy along with his Captain, CoreDawg. Nice win CoreDawg. BUT yes,CoreDawg needs to have a talk with Mason and have him control his classless antics. Mason was immature and disrespectful even after winning. To the last poster, sorry your son had to see this. And I hope your son keeps playing tennis because Dallas has some really class guys. It's too bad he had to see Mason at his finest.
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious. Razor serves a ball at Mason's chest and its Mason who is classless.
ReplyDeleteYou were obviously there to root for HP - and if you saw nothing wrong with Old Mans behavior then I have to question your motives.

ReplyDeleteRasor is terrible. Jean carried him on the court. Rasor's teammates were apologizing after the match to Huffhines. Clearly, this is not the first time he has acted like a 12-year old. Grow up, old man.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see anyone from Either team apologize for anything anyone did. If a ball is out then it's out. Whether it's a foot out or ten feet out. Don't keep asking and acting like you were shot in the heart when it doesn't go your way. Oh and when my son wins he will not walk around the side of the court beating his chest to show off the big win. That is mostly what I didn't like and didn't want my son to see. Win with class and act like you have won something big before.
ReplyDeleteI was at the match and saw both
ReplyDeleteguys, mason and rasor, acting foolish. Jean and Hawkins were ok. I have seen Rasor play many times and Hr usually doesn't act like that. I
have seen Mason play 5 times and he acts the same everytime. Both were immature last night.

ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks will dominate today. They have Molina and Andrus and have all their doubles teams.
ReplyDeleteThe whole episode at line 2 started when Rasor was sure a stab that Mason made at a ball was a double bounce. Mason said he got to the ball and Rasor started cussing up a storm. The very next point Rasor served a ball at Masons chest. From that point on, any ball Huffines hit even close to the line was called out. It stayed that way until the official had to come court side and babysit the old man.
ReplyDeleteBoth Mason and Rasor acted pretty immature, but most of Mason's tirades were just reactions to Rasor.
First of all it was a double bounce and mason yelled it's my call and rasor said your right it's your call. I'm sure the line call was a reaction to mason cheating them but both are wrong. I wonder if Mason walks around the fence beating his chest after his match today. Should be a good match between RO and Huffines.

ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks won 4-1. They came through in 3 tiebreaks. Big win. Now its Royal Oaks v. High Point for it all. Royals Oaks can lose 3-2 and it will be up to sets won. Big win today.
ReplyDeleteIf RO loses 3-2 they would have 6 match wins while HP would have only 5. If HP wins 4-1 or 5-0 they will go through to DCC otherwise RO goes. Huffines is out. Check my math though I got distracted by all the 6-0s.
ReplyDeleteI though Fair and Young were supposed to be the best team in Dallas. They just lost to Zachary, that guy sucks!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if Zachary sucks but Young wasn't himself this weekend. He had a tough couple of days.
ReplyDeleteWhat up with the 6-0?
ReplyDeleteWhy is everyone talking trash about Rasor. There is not one person out there who don't react or over reacts on bad calls. I could bet this close lost was not entirely Rasor's fault. Hollywood has been choking close matches, look up his record. He's practically on a losing streak. The guy is not 4.5 material yet but he is getting there although slowly. It's a shame HP lost the first match. They should have put a stronger line up. I guess they didn't think it would be necessary playing Corey's team. It's sad because now they don't stand a chance at making QT.
ReplyDeleteoops - meant not a chance making DCC not QT.
ReplyDeletePhyminimal should have kept his big talk to a minimum basically himself about his team winning and going to sectionals. They really don't stand a chance now. RO will advance to DCC.
HP needs Leija in a doubles to win big. Had he been in lineup against Huffines they would not be forced to win big.
ReplyDeleteIt's the playoffs - act like it!
HP has some good doubles players but their singles are weak!
ReplyDeleteRO has good doubles and singles. If they play it right they will advance to DCC and could win DCC and advance to Sectionals.
Its all based on luck most of the time anyways. Right?
Stronger lineup against Noel?? Komson won the first set 6-0 and Hollywood and Coach won the second set 6-2 and had match points in the third set tiebreak. Like someone said, you need a little luck on your side. If Ed and Dustin played then it really would have been ugly for Huffines. It doesn't matter now because Huffines and HP are basically out.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Ed anyway?? He is usually in the lineup. I think we will see him tomorrow against Royal Oaks.
ReplyDeleteHere are my thoughts watching today:
ReplyDelete1) Andrus shouldn't be allowed to play league.
2) Huffhines choked this match away. If Fare and Young come through, who knows how the momentum shakes out. Tough loss for them.
3) Molina shows why he is a 5.0 with a solid win over Noel.
4) Wells can dominate even with partner injury and all.
5) Royal Oaks needs to win both singles tomorrow to have a chance.
6) Huffhines Line 1 Singles showed very well against Andrus.
Overall, solid play by both teams. It just came down to three tough tiebreaks.
My thoughts are there is very little separating Feldman, RO, HP, Huffines and Brookhaven. It is basically a coin toss any time these guys play each other. I still think Brookhaven is weakest overall team coming out of the B flight, but they had 3 solid lines. Depth will be their downfall.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mention Branch because its a fact this years team is head and shoulders above the competition and it would take a major upset to to beat them.
Tomorrow's prediction is HP will sweep doubles and it will come down to Phy having to win a singles line to advance. Ed will not play - it is my guess he is going to represent on that Abilene team.
For High Point's sake, I hope Rasor sits at home.

I actually agree with all of the above, although it's hard to say Andrus is not a 4.5 player when he split sets with my guy.
As for the line 2 dubs from last night, my comment was referring to bad sportsmanship on all sides. How it started and how it ended are irrelevant, it just shouldn't happen. The bottom line is that we're playing for fun and that match was distracting for several matches around it.
Today's match was high quality all around but the tiebreaks just didn't go our way. I tripled my output against Joey from last time so I'm happy and Andy played the best I've seen him play all season. Blake was on the verge of collapse and stayed out to finish the match, even though we were essentially eliminated. Trey broke a bone in his foot (again) and still was able to pull out a third-set tiebreak with Wells' usual dominance.
Obviously a tough weekend for Doug and Jim but they have carried us for the last two seasons so I can't be mad at them.
Would have been interesting if Matt would have been available to play singles today but that's how it goes.
My prediction for tomorrow:
3-2 Royal Oaks. I'm just not sure who HP has that can win a singles match. Phy could maybe but if not they will have to win all doubles. Expect more third-set tiebreakers.
For the record though, I don't really think beating your chest after you win a 13-11 tiebreak to clinch a playoff win for the team is classless. I didn't even see that happen and I know there was some other questionable behavior on both sides but I don't see the problem in that.
ReplyDeleteThe sad part about all this is that if Dallas does indeed only get one team to Sectionals, all of these matches are probably meaningless. Ridiculous with 20 teams that we have one representative. I suppose it's possible Branch could lose with all of the singles studs around but I wouldn't bet on it.
ReplyDeleteCoreDawg - I thought Mckinney and Wells dominated in straight sets today.
ReplyDeleteThey did. My mistake. I actually didn't find out their score until after I left LB. Even more impressive. Trey is a great team player who will put his body on the line every time out.
ReplyDeleteI think Royal Oaks will beat Branch in City. RO sweeps singles and pulls off a doubles win at line 2 or 3.
ReplyDeleteYou may be right, but it wont matter. Feldman is loaded and is going to be the favorite at cities.
ReplyDeleteThe winner of the Branch / Feldman match will determine who comes out of Dallas. Feldman looks stronger and younger at singles and is being overlooked. Branch team will need match-ups to pull this one out.
Prediction -
Feldman
Royal Oaks
Branch
Harlee
I think it was way past the point of asking nicely. I heard complaints from many surrounding courts, the tournament officials, and the spectators. Not an indictment of Rasor, but all players involved. Rasor has admitted his emotions got the better of him and Blake apologized to the referee and the site director for his behavior, so obviously he shares responsibility.
ReplyDeleteNothing more to be said.
Yikes and I thought the upper level had some class. The ump was still talking about the spectators this morning. It is unfortunate you all had that go on. With that said it sounds like there is remorse and #$it happens so Dan don't feel as if banishing yourself is some solution. I even forgive you and you played for Jim Walters (eek!).

ReplyDeleteIt's so ridiculous what some asses would do to win - start shit on the court. It happens more than you can imagine. I'm NOT talking about Rasor. Why the hell is everyone going on and on with this crap. It's over! Corey's loser drama queen players won so there. Get over it! Stop insulting Rasor. It's enough! Can even imagine what it would have been like if Rasor would have won. Oh Shit!
ReplyDeleteWell I must admit I am shocked. I don't typically frequent this blog because of this type of crap - but I would like to say the experience at line #2 doubles is the exception and not the rule when it comes to Huffines and from my experience the HP team.
ReplyDeleteI don't know Rasor but from my vantage point his only sin was being a little louder than some of us younger guys. It was a big match and everyone was pretty fired up. Blake is a great guy and there is no reason for anyone on either team to be dragged through the mud.
Our season is over and I am pulling for HP to beat RO today. HP has real team chemistry and reminds me a lot of the guys we have on the Huffines team. Good luck to Phy, Hai, Joel and the rest of HP going forward.
Whether that is an actual Huffhines member or not, well said.
ReplyDeleteAnybody have an update on the match today?
3-2 HP. RO moves on.
ReplyDeleteI feel for HP. They really wanted it but their lacked of singles strength blew it for them. Next time.
ReplyDeleteHP should have played studs Cliff and Dustin in Singles or maybe just one of them and played one of them in doubles. Why play Jean and in singles?? Jean needs to stick to doubles and needs a strong partner to help him. Andre playing, I understand, he is a singles player although not quite fully developed in 4.5 yet.
ReplyDeleteWonder why Leija didn't play? They really needed him in doubles. Leija and Rasor or Leija and Cliff or Dustin should have played doubles.
Like the saying goes. Shit happens. Pretty sure this team will do better next time around. Don't lose hope guys. You did well no matter why. No one excpected you guys to make it anyways. Right Kern?
I heard Kern did not want to play for HP because he didn't think they were strong enough to make it. Sorry HP but everyone else knew you guys would not go far. You did add some solid guys that could have made a huge impact/difference but the way you set up your line ups were wrong. Playing Phy and Pickett was smart. Phy and Cliff not! Phy thinks he can carry anyone or maybe he is told that from others so you should have played him with someone like Jean the match against Corey's team and played Cliff in singles or with Rasor. Obviously Leija was not available to play otherwise he would have been in the line up both days. Dustin must have only been available Sunday. Shame.
ReplyDeleteNo way Dustin or Clint takes a singles line from RO. Only reasonable chance was Phy. Phy took out Xu in straights during HPs' other must-win...why he didn't he step up and play singles?
ReplyDeleteEd probably decided to play for Abilene because he thought they had a better chance to advance. I'm sure HP played the best players that were available. I am very surprised at their singles lineup. I'm not sure how they expected to win 4-1 with that singles lineup.
ReplyDeleteIts because Jean thinks he's good enough to win in doubles and singles probably. Records differently. The truth is he blows more matches that are a must win and drags great players down. We're talking about tennis only. There is not doubt Jean is a great guy and well liked.
ReplyDeleteRO won the matches that they had to all weekend so all credit goes to them; however, I think HP and Huffines proved they are contenders. I'm sure HP put the best lineup they could come up with out there. If they win 1 more point in line 2 dubs Friday they go to DCC, Huffines could say similar things. In the end RO was clutch when they needed to be and if they can continue winning the big points they can be at Sectionals. DCC will be very competitive next week, with a lot of close 3-2 matches.
ReplyDeleteI'm not trying to make a complaint but I'm just curious about the eligibility of Andrus. I believe both of these are correct: 1. He is 18 years old. 2. He will be playing college tennis next month.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these should impact his rating, correct? I assume he must be turning 19 soon or he wouldn't have been allowed to play. I don't know what college he is going to so I can't say about his eligibility there.
I just hope everything with him is on the up and up. He's a great player and I am not saying he's a 5.0 because that would be sour grapes since my guy split sets with him. Very friendly with good sportsmanship too which seems more and more uncommon with somebody so young.
Oh please. Andrus would pretty much have to be signed with a D1 college to not be eligible for 4.5.
ReplyDeleteNot the first time a recent high school grad has played adult league.
HP just didn't have the firepower to beat RO 4-1. I'm sure next year they'll find some horses for singles and then look out...
I noticed Ed Leija played for Abilene this weekend and he helped the Abilene team advance to sectionals. I can't say I blame him as the HP team had no chance of advancing out of the DCC, although they would have easily won the QT had he played. Just an example of another city coming in and stealing our talent.
ReplyDeleteVery unimpressive 4.5 QT this weekend. None of these teams are sectional level teams.
