Tri-Level on the Horizon

Since somebody mentioned the tri-level competition in the now gargantuan topic about the ratings, I thought I would start my first topic for anybody who wants to talk about the upcoming tri-level events next month.

The deadline is coming up soon for teams to have their rosters full.

Many of the usual suspects have teams: myself, Somabut, Pickett. Who are the favorites? What would the dream tri-level team be? (Hint: Just look at my roster.)

Too early for predictions but it should be a lot of fun. Also, a lot of players could be competing at their new levels for the first time since year-end ratings will be used for this.

Thoughts?

  1. Pickett is so hot right now.

  2. Where do we find the Teams/Players that are registered already?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Has anyone experienced the Tri Level Before? Is it pretty competitive?

    ReplyDelete
  4. If you type my name or any other captains name in, that is the easiest way. I would say it's not as competitive as regular league but I'm pretty casual in all of my matches so it's hard for me to say. I'm sure everybody will be playing to win.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Yay! Let's talk about tri-level where almost nobody is even registered yet......Good topic Nancy.

    ReplyDelete
  6. What is the Deadline to get a team together?

Are there any 3.0 players out their?
I can get some 4.0 and 3.5 players together pretty easily.

email me if you are a 3.0 and might be interested.

  7. I thought Tri-Level was 4.5,4.0 and 3.5.

Last year the teams were pretty salty.

    ReplyDelete
  8. There is not any Nationals competition for 4.0/3.5/3.0 Tri-Level.

There is a Nationals competition for 4.5/4.0/3.5 in Indian Wells, California.

Much better to play in the higher group and maybe get lucky and make Nationals.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Picketts team will win. He does a good job recruiting players for these tournaments. Hackberrys team is looking solid too.

    ReplyDelete
  10. when is the tri-level tournament? Yes too lazy to look it up.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I played in it last year (the lower level) and I thought it was more competitive than regular league.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You basically have teams with the 2 best 4.5 players, 2 best 4.0 players and 2 best 3.5 players they can find.

Thus the lines are pretty tough across the top 2 or 3 teams. Very competitive. As usual you will have a few teams that are not competitive.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I noticed that SENIOR SECTIONALS will no longer be played at John Newks due to a ton of complaints from players about the poor facilities there. They'll be played in Tyler instead.

The bad news is Tri-Level Sectionals will be played at Newks. Newks is just a horrible place to stay and a very poor place to play because their courts are cramped so closely together.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Tyler may not be the armpit of Texas but you sure can see it from there. Much rather go to Newks if only for the atmosphere. Tyler tends to blow.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Tyler DOES suck _ I don't disagree.

But I'd much rather stay at the Holiday Inn Select than Newks. Players staying at Newks often complain about dirty rooms, bugs, poor service, plumbing failures, etc.

And I'd rather play a competitive match at the Tyler Tennis and Swim Club rather than Newks.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I thought tri level was at kingwood like before? When did they announce a change?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Moving the Tri_level Sectionals to John Newks was included in Jane Gilpin's email to captains dated 11/18.

WHO THE HELL WOULD WANT TO PLAY AT NEWKS FEB 13-15???

There's a good chance it will rain and they will play abbreivated matches (one set, no add, start at 2-2) in their 3 covered courts. It will be a nightmare at John Newks in February.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Good lord do I now feel motivated to either not sign up at all or play for a team I know has no shot at reaching sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Coredawg--Where is the info/schedule for this tri level?
    Never heard of it before

    old school

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ok I found it, how does the scheduling work, is there a regular season and then a playoff?
How long is the season and when does it start?

    old school

    ReplyDelete
  21. Only 8 teams allowed. It is more competitive than league play. Every match is usually a hard match. Cause you are usually only dealing with number one lines at 4.5 4.0 3.5

Play 3 matches total, 4 if you make it to the finals. All in the same weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  22. what is the link to sign up or register a team?

    ReplyDelete
  23. so the 8 current teams are the only ones who can play? that blows

    ReplyDelete
  24. anyone need a solid 4.5?

    old school

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm looking for two outstanding 4.5 players to play on a Tri-Level Team (4.5, 4.0, 3.5). If you have an interest, please send me an email. jkraemer22@gmail.com

    Dates:
    Jan 16th - 18th City
    Feb 13th - 15th Sectionals John Newcombe
    March 20th - 22nd Nationals Palm Springs

  26. Fpr the person who does not want to play at Newks. If you have a beef with Newks, fine, but many of us just want to play tennis and compete against new people. We do not play for the opportunity to stay in a posh resort. It is your option to not play but let those who want to play without the grief that the courts are not nice enough.

    ReplyDelete
  27. yep who cares about the place you are playing. Kingwood was under construction while we we there but it was nice on the courts. After the match it was off to find beer, as long as newks has a bar, I am going there win or lose.

Any 3.0s out there, I have one but would like to have 2-3. Last year I fielded 4 teams but would prefer only 1 this time around but enough are interested and willing to organize we could fill up the lower level tourney to a full 8 teams.

  28. Tyler Tennis & Swim Club is worthy of a trip to play tennis only when it's warm enough for the swimming pool to be open. There are a lot of HOT ladies in East Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't understand why the limit this event to 8 teams. They are turning money away which is very unusual for the USTA. They shouldn't care if there are 100 teams, they can find the courts.

Anyway Greg, somebody kind of answered this but I will in more detail. The regular season is essentially one weekend. There are two flights of four teams that compete in round-robin play starting Friday night. The two winners from each flight play on Sunday for a chance to go to Sectionals.
Since I've never made it that far in any USTA event I can't go in any more detail but it does go all the way to Nationals also.

Also, for somebody who complained this was a crappy topic, 30 comments in less than 24 hours sounds good to me.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Newks & the area are a fun road trip.(Esp.Greene) However you go play on Newks 8 courts in a row on a windy day and tell me you are still having fun. You will play a minimum of 10 lets for balls, people, cans, rolling on your court. Truly the courts are so close together you will play a few player lets in doubles.

You always hope your matches will be moved to TBar next door.

When you practice hard for sectionals it isn't much fun to play mediocre tennis because of distractions. Anyway that is my excuse for not winning my champion tie-breaks down there last season.

Most of us in this area play at decent courts with maybe 2 courts side by side. Newks is setup for Jr. instruction and could use some updating. It hasn't changed much in the thirty years I have played there.

Not sure where in Tyler Senior Sectionals will be held, but hopefully it will be player friendly.

  31. Kaiser is a 3.0, any takers?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Newks is a very tough place to play with banks of 10 courts rammed very closely together with no dividers between. Play on your court is constantly interrupted by balls coming from other courts. Hell, you often have balls on court 1 rolling down through courts 2,3,and 4 ending on court 5 with all courts in between playing a let point. That's why a lot of guys have complained about John Newks for many years.

Nobody is looking for a plush resort but at least you expect the plumbing to be working.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bill Kaiser has a 3.5 NTRP not a 3.0. But he probably should be a 3.0.

    ReplyDelete
  34. A lot of strong teams shaping up this year. Historically I've noticed that a lot of teams have one very strong line or two strong lines but rarely all 3. It makes sense because most players don't know a lot of players at 3 different levels. Sisk and I are working together to try to build a strong team from top to bottom. His end is usually stronger than mine though.

    ReplyDelete
  35. FYI Sectionals for Tri Levels is being held at Kingwood Country Club in Houston Feb 13-15 NOT at Newks.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 4.5 team available, we will not lose a match, we never have!
    Zachary-Matlock, who wants us?

    ReplyDelete
  37. According to Tennis Link Zachary only loses at City Playoffs so you can play him just not in the BIG matches. Matlock is okay just an awkward style but he has a lot of experience.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Is that a shot a me for changing my kids diapers, me and Jeff are undefeated in Open and 5.0 as a team 7 tourney victories

    ReplyDelete
  39. Wow 7 tourney victories. Impressive. Although we all know that your tournament results have little competition compared to league. Hopefully your results in City Playoffs dont reflect how weak tournaments may be. I hope someone picks up Zachary for Tri Levels because it may show us if really is as good as he post his results.

  41. why don't you play me today and find out?
    i don't hide, anywhere anytime

    ReplyDelete
  42. anonymous never hides.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thats okay Ive already beaten you twice. 1,0 the first time and 2,1 the second time. Although I did see a tiny improvement the second time. Stick to ur 4.5 tennis pls!

    ReplyDelete
  44. somebody tell Zachary that matches won more than 5 years ago and unsanctioned tournaments do not count.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I like this. Now this is some trash talk.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I hope you are right about Tr-Level being played again in Houston this year. That would be great. However, Jane Gilpin's email to captains says it will be at John Newks.

True, Jane is an accident waiting to happen _ but I'd like to see something official.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 1,0 and 2,1?

unless you are giaumme or thomas then you are full of shit

    play today!

    gz

    ReplyDelete
  48. um, the hardware in my living room says they do count

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think I am about done with this blog, trash talers won't even attempt to back it up. everyone is scared to put there name out when they have something to say, and no one descent actually wants to play

    z

    ReplyDelete
  50. According to Tennis Link Zachary got destroyed at Mabry 1,0 and Tyler 2,1 by John Swords. Face it GZ your a mid level 4.5 with lots of improvement needed!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. What are you doing in 4.5 then?? Move up to 5.0 and open so you will get a challenge. Dumba$$.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Z is willing to pout. He must be really good.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm starting to like Greg more and more based on these posts. Anybody who stands up against anons is OK in my book.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anyone that says he's undefeated in Open then posts on this blog who wants me for a 4.5 team needs a reality check. If your an Open player like u claim u are PLS show some domination in 4.5 before you start running your mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  55. when exactly were the wins with Matlock b/c looking at record back though 2003 does not show any doubles play in tournaments with Matlock/Zachary as a team.
Just curious since I am a stat geek.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thats funny, John(my ass), If you ask John he can tell you what kind of player I am...Not to mention the first three times we played...The score doesn't always explain the match, I won't make excuses for those loses but John would tell you differently. He knows what happened when we played when I was in shape and not injured...By the way, he wouldn't hide from me behind anon, he would call and say lets battle...As for being a midlevel 4.5, I can accept that (for now) the last two years have been tough on my body...but I will be back! But I still won't hide, anytime, anywhere...You want some come get some, if not shut your hole!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Matlock/Zachary - Open/5.0 Playing down to 4.5.

    Big Hairy Pussy Alert!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. You can call anyone a pussy you want, but if that person is stil playing a level that is better than what you are currently classified you can't say shit. It's kind of like the game "ASSHOLE" and the shit flows downward. Thus no 4.0 or 3.5 player can really talk shit to a 4.5 player, etc.

    A 3.5 B can not call out a 4.0 A.

    This is common knowledge.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Check out Houston Tennis Blogs new Thread.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm a 5.5 B so what are you talking about Willis?

  63. Tri-level question -

What does everyone think about self-rated players in the tri-level? With so many strong computer rated players in the area, I think it is BS to have self-rated players participate.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Self-rated players are not allowed to play Tri-Level.

    ReplyDelete
  65. From the captain's e-mail from DTA:

A players most current computer published rating applies. The 2008 year end ratings can be found on the Texas Section website at www.texas.usta.com. Players that don’t have a current computer generated rating will self-rate on TennisLink at the time they register for your team.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I stand corrected, thanks

    ReplyDelete
  67. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

    ReplyDelete
  68. The flyer from the DTA says NO Self Rated Players.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Yes ... No self rated players!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Once again, clear as mud from DTA. The flyer says one thing and the e-mail another.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Whats the difference you can't start a team anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  72. According to the latest DTA news letter Jane runs the best leagues in Texas and the nation

    ReplyDelete
  73. jane and her friends write that stuff. dta always likes to pat itself on the back

    ReplyDelete
  74. Tri-Level Sectionals will be in Kingwood February 20-22, not Newks 13-15. The 4.5, 4.0, 3.5 teams can NOT have self-rated players while the 4.0, 3.5, 3.0 teams can have self-rated players.

    ReplyDelete
  75. who gives a crap about 4.0/3.5/3.0? What will they have, 2 teams?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Jane Gilpin's email says Tri-Level Sectionals are Feb 13 - 15 at NEWKS

    ReplyDelete
  77. Even though gilpins email says its in newks the tta has already verified that tri level sectionals will be in kingwood in february.

    ReplyDelete
  78. is jane gilpin hot?

    ReplyDelete
  79. are you serious? she looks like a troll

    ReplyDelete
  80. an 80 year old troll

    ReplyDelete
  81. Jane Gilpin is not the brightest 80 year old either.

but she has delusions of adequacy

    ReplyDelete
  82. CoreDawg,
Where is sectionals being played for tri level?

    ReplyDelete
  83. i'm sure jane is doing the best she can with what she has to work with.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Win city tri-level then I worry about where sectionals is. I don't have time for questions like this fellas.

    ReplyDelete
  85. You better find some better 4.0 players. I would probably put Corey's team about 4th or 5th so far. Still plenty of time to upgrade though.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Other than Corey, Sisk, and Fraser I don't know the other guys. I have heard that Wiley is a heart attack waiting to happen but I have never seen him but this blog talks about his girth.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Wiley's a darn good 3.5 player. Wiley and Sisk will be tough to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Anons are Godly people. 8 >}

    ReplyDelete
  89. I don't know where Sectionals are being held. I don't like to look that far ahead seeing as my team has never made it past cities in any event. My roster is full but the players just haven't signed up. We will be competitive.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I heard they are going to form another team without you.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Wiley and Sisk on the same team? What the hell is the world coming to? The biggest jackasses from High Point and Garland. This is a sure sign of the Apocalypse.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Biggest Jack Ass at HP? Guilty as Charged. For this event, I joined the GTC mafia; now John will have to settle for second biggest Jackass for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I'm really impressed with the competition level of all the teams so far. It looks like it will be a lot tougher than last season. Most teams last year had one or 2 weak lines but this season almost all lines look tough from the teams.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Is tri-level the same thing as a threesome?

    ReplyDelete
  95. OH FOR PETE SAKE!!! Tri-level is all male and/or all female. Threesome's should only occur in mixed.

    ReplyDelete
  96. No, you're both wrong. Bi-means that you like both sexes, but tri means that you tried going both ways but decided to go back to your original way of dating. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  97. I thought Tri meant you have Tried everything.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Don't be silly. Tri level means you have done it on an elevator.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Who cares about tri-level? It's a waste of money and effort. I can't count on 3.5 players so why would I waste my time. I am too good for them.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Who cares about tri-level? It's a waste of money and effort. I can't count on 3.5 players so why would I waste my time. I am too good for them.

    ReplyDelete
  101. If they had a tri level starting at 5.0 I would consider playing.

    ReplyDelete
  102. If they had a tri-level starting at 6.0, I would play the top level.

    ReplyDelete
  103. The only reason I don't play Wimbledon, is because I don't like jet lag

    ReplyDelete
  104. PLUS, they talk funny.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I was asked to play Wimbledon a few years back but my private jet was in for maintenance and the concoarse was booked up. I don't like being trapped on long flights with common people.

    ReplyDelete
  106. This thread has certainly ran out of steam

    ReplyDelete
  107. Has run out of steam.

    ReplyDelete
  108. This thread was gay. This blog will probably be pretty gay until March

    ReplyDelete
  109. I will put up a topic about the cotton bowl after the deadline Friday, but I agree with the previous poster. I figure this blog will be pretty quiet until people start ramping up for the spring season.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Well, hell, what the heck should we talk about then? There is nothing new for a long time!!

All I know is UT sucks and they got what they deserve. Never should have lost to Tech, then start to whine after that.

They woulda gotten smoked by Florida anyway. Too big, too fast, too athletic. OU has a chance though

    ReplyDelete
  111. This blog will never be quiet as long as The Anon's are around.

    ReplyDelete
  112. You know why Texas will never fall into the Gulf of Mexico? Because OU sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  113. HARRELL FOR HEISMAN.. wait nevermind.. he didnt get invited to NEW YORK.. HAHAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  114. Horse crap. The reason there are so many tornadoes in Oklahoma is because Kansas sucks and Texas blows.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I don't like football. It's too rough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  116. 4.0 (The peeps I know)

capt of the year - Somabut. Don't know how he did it. again.

most improved - Talliat - he sucked last year.

Biggest Upset - kent v Forrest

Biggest sandbag alert - Line 3 doubles of Kent and Noaman!

Rookie of the year - OC2 (made quite a run)

Underachiever of the year - OC

    ReplyDelete
  117. Disagree about Taillat. His captain last year played him in doubles, when he told HIM that he was better suited for singles.

Bob played him exclusively at singles and you see the results.

One thing for sure, some people are better at creating Hype and other captains are better at being the Hype.

    HP

    ReplyDelete
  118. Branch is captain of the year not Somabut.

This year our spring team lost a chance to go to Nationals because Bob played 2nd string players the last rr match at Sectionals. A lot of us were sick about that. At Sectionals even the weaker teams can knock you off if you dont go with your best players.

    ReplyDelete
  119. 1:38pm anon poster - you weren't going to nationals even if you won the last rr match. You really are a weak suck, whatever the hell that is.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I couldn't have said it any better Jean.

    Snoop

    ReplyDelete
  121. OK so who do you all think will win Tri-Level???

Give me your views and I'll tell you if you are right or not

    ReplyDelete
  122. I think the 3.5's will win the big head title. They all will be in the lounge saying "hey look at me, I'm playing with 4.0 and 4.5 guys. I must be good".

    ReplyDelete
  123. Which 3.5 guy do you think will eef it up for their them?

    ReplyDelete
  124. i spell words the way they sound. sorry, i'm hairlipped

    ReplyDelete
  125. 3.5/4.0/4.5 Tri-Level
There are 3 strong teams that have a legit chance: Pickett, Somabut & Thompson. The other teams look solid but wont crack the top 3.

    Order of finish:
    1. Collin Thompon
    2. Joel Ice Pickett
    3. Bob Somabut

Thompson has a sure win at 3.5 and is solid at 4.0 and 4.5

Picket is strong at 4.0 and 4.5 but only fair at 3.5.

Somabut is also strong at 4.0 and 4.5 but has crap at 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  126. 1. Pickett
    2. Collin
    3. Russow

    ReplyDelete
  127. None of the teams in the 3.0&3.5&4.0 group look good. This is really just a step child event mostly for 2nd string players. Any decent 3.5 or 4.0 player tries to find a team in the top group.

    ReplyDelete
  128. nancys team will surprise again and win trilevel

    ReplyDelete
  129. Suprise again?? When did he suprise us the 1st time???

    ReplyDelete
  130. Pickett added another 3.5
They are the team to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  131. is there a roster limit for tri-level?

    ReplyDelete
  132. No roster limit for tri.

    ReplyDelete
  133. why people always talking trash about HP/somabut and Snoop.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Collin Thompsons team will beat Joel Picketts team because Doug Smith will choke at level 4.0. Thompson has the best 3.5 guys so thats their 2nd line. u can take that to the bank

    ReplyDelete
  135. Not sure I agree with your 3.5 assessment. There are many good players and I wouldn't bet against Palacioz at 3.5.

    ReplyDelete
  136. nancy has very strong 3.5 players plus Glenn Flora can dominate at 4.0. But who is going to play 4.5???

    ReplyDelete
  137. Glen Flora will get waxed at 4.0.

    ReplyDelete
  138. There is a 12 person roster limit for Tri-Level.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Nancy has average 3.5s. Sisk/Stein/Wiley. Stein is pretty good. Sisk and Wiley suck.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Talliat could barely beat me last year in singles, he waxed me this year in singles. His game is much improved from last year. (not hard to do in singles, but the progression is still there)

His shots are better, placed better, and he tracks more balls down then when I played him last time.

Talliat gets my vote for most improved player of the year. He is a pretty strong 4.0 singles player this year, and borderline could anchor a team.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I've had my 4.5 players for a while, they are just building the suspense. Also, my 3.5 line was undefeated last year and I expect similar results from them this time around, and my 4.5 will be better.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I have to say Icepick is the front runner, but, every team looks pretty strong in there.

I seriously think I could throw a dart at the team listings, and come back and say, I wouldn't be surprised if they won.

QUESTION: WHY did you recruit so many players????

Were you trying to just eliminate Bob's team from competition by signing all his potential players before deadline? ha ha.

    ReplyDelete
  143. its THREE matches!!! 4 if you go all the way. Seriously? You need 10 guys for that? (11 if you sign up)?

I thought the point of this tourney was to get a lot of tennis in.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I'm sure he is planning for sectionals. You have to have at least three players for every level. Although I don't know why somebody would pay $30 to play one match. But if you have three players, and one of them can't play sectionals, you are stuck with the same team throughout. I actually think it would make more sense to charge a team fee for this event instead of charging individually, but you could say that for every league I suppose.

    ReplyDelete
  145. It wouldn't surprise me if Corey's team won the whole darn thing. Everyone else should have played the step child tri level.

  146. I think Collin Thompsonhas the best team.

3.5 Atlas/Watanabe - Easily the best 3.5 combination. They played for HP/Jameson and were probably their best doubles players. How they stayed down is a mystery. Watanabe lost a lot of matches in the fall that he would not have lost in the spring.
4.0 Kemp/Kemp/Carlquist - All should be 4.5 and look at their Fall Playoff results. Another one that is a mystery to how all three stayed down.
4.5 Durten/Feldman/Stein are all high level 4.5s that rarely lose. Thompson wins most of his matches and he is the weakest of the four.

I don't see this team losing lines much less matches.

  147. Must be one of the Thompson team members trying to hype the blog about their team!!! Yada Yada Yada

  148. They do look pretty good

    ReplyDelete
  151. F Thompson, Noel and Pickett. They will all go down.

  153. Thompson will win tri level.

    ReplyDelete
  154. From what I can see, I think Thompson wins too. Nancy's team could be good depending on who he gets to fill out the roster. I think they have the best 3.5s. If he gets the right guys from Northwood, then they may have some of the best 4.5s too. I think their 4.0s are solid but not lines you can count on.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Best 3.5s? Better than Watanabe and Atlas? I really do not think so.

    ReplyDelete
  156. We will have to see how we do. I am pretty familiar with Dave Atlas and Tony Watanabe. They are both good players and good friends so it should be fun.

I am unsure how well we will do but we will go out and play to win. I am sure Thompson's team is very good but we will go ahead and play all matches. I am sure there are other teams that feel the same.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Picketts 3.5's are no joke either. Desemetere(sp?)/Palicioz/Bennett/Arcaria.

I will have to go with -

    1. Pickett - Solid at all lines
    2. Collin - Solid at all lines
    3. Russow - solid 4.0 and 4.5
    4. The rest of the field.

This will be a good tri-level tourney. Any team can win it.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Does Pickett have enough players on his roster?

    ReplyDelete
  159. Icepick just wants players to experience tri level. I'm sure he wants to win but obviously he isn't worried about just playing top players. How can he be with 12guys on the team.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Icepick has added Dennis Demetsenaere. Dennis and Jerry will not lose at 3.5 I have to say he is now the favorite if he can manage all those players

    ReplyDelete
  161. Icepick = Godfather of the Combo and Tri-level tournaments!

    ReplyDelete
  162. Watanabe and Atlas can play with Demetsenaere and Palacioz.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Watanabe is better than his fall results suggest He is a known tanker and I'm suprised Thompson would even let him on his team.
    BD

    ReplyDelete
  164. As I understand it, Dennis beats the crap out of Tony on a regular basis at H.P.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Thompson's 4.0's are average at best.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Watanabe hits the ball hard and is up and down. He does not tank, he is just inconsistent. A lot depends upon whether his serve is going in.

Some of you are too fast to say someone "tanks". You can never prove that and it is very unfair to make those kinds of charges.

    ReplyDelete
  167. C. Thompson and J. Pickett both have excellent teams. Both teams are far ahead of the rest of the pack. One of those teams will win.

The Thompson & Pickett teams are about 50/50. If Doug Smith plays 4.0 for Pickett then Thompson will win. If Smith rides the bench, then Pickett will win.

    ReplyDelete
  168. I would rather have someone who hits the ball in the court instead of someone who hits the ball HARD and INTO THE FENCE. Believe me I know Tony.

    ReplyDelete
  169. That's a good one Dennis!!!

    ReplyDelete
  170. yeah, thanks for defending your self dennis. you will kick this guy's ass by your self, AGAIN. i can't believe these guys would recuite someone they knew nothing about. there must be 100 3.5 guys in dallas that would baggle tony.

    L.R.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I don't get it!??? Do some of these guys even realize that they might not even play a match, or best case 1 match? It is one weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  172. It's only one weekend for the losers. What about that do you not get. Besides Pickett can pay back whoever doesn't get to play I don't think he is too worried about the 33 fee.

    ReplyDelete
  173. obviously, somebody here has a thing for D smith. He must have beat you handily.
    nguyen

  174. Dennis is strong player even at 4.0

  175. My text has been blowing up regarding the tri level blog. I'm happy to see tri level commanding so much attention. There are some really good teams and it should be fun watching all the matches. I particularly will be interested in watching the biggest choker on my team, Doug Smith. Note the sarcasm... If you are a 4.0 and will post your name then I will be sure to put him in the lineup against you so he can personally show you what a weak suck looks like. See you all in a few weeks and Happy Holidays!!! BTW, for whoever makes it to Sectionals, watch out for Kern's team from Houston. They look like the team to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Doug Smith
    0-2 2008 Adult Sectionals
    0-1 2008 Combo Sectionals
    0-3 All 2008 Sectional events
In those 3 sectional matches Smith lost FOUR tiebreaks and won NONE.

    That's choking guys!

    ReplyDelete
  177. Can we see Dougs record in league and city playoffs please. I'm guessing he is not 0fer since he is playing at Sectionals. Only a couple of teams from Dallas go to Sectionals and obviously he was there, so give him some credit. He was at 2 of the 4 Sectional events which is pretty good so post your name so we can compare your credentials.

  178. Tri-Level comes down to IcePick vs Collin Thompson. None of the other teams have a realistic chance.

IcePick wins 4.5 and Thompson wins 3.5 -> thats a given.

With Keith & Steve, IcePick wins 4.0 and the championship. If IcePick uses Smith in the match against Thompson, then 4.0 goes to Thompson and his team wins. But IcePick is smarter than that so assuming no line-up screw-ups, IcePicks team wins.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Kern,
You are making my point dumbass. When someone has a great record in league but plays poorly at Sectionals when the pressure is on _ thats called choking. Another sign of choking is losing all the tiebreaks in key matches.

  180. surprised to see the step-child tri-level 3.0/3.5/4.0 has 6 teams but most players are second string type guys

    ReplyDelete
  181. 4.0/3.5/3.0 collectively says:

    Bite me!

At least the players are playing at the correct level.

In reality the upper combo is really a 5.0/4.5/4.0 competition pitting the best out of level players against each other in a big pissing contest. All but one team will be losers again and the name calling and cries of foul play will start all over again when they lose. It happened last year and will happen again. Watch and see.

    ReplyDelete
  182. That is another Brian. I have no problems with Doug. I like the guy. He played very well in city in the fall this year from what I remember. Plus, we were teammates when we played on a Cro-Magnon Ferrell team (The early existence of Ferrell).

I don't think that Houston has a chance. I think Pickett is the running favorite. I know nothing about Thompson team, but based on the blog talk, sounds like they are good.

My team...we look to get a lot of tennis against some good competition, and hopefully, end up as a wrench stuck in a top team's wheel. Spoiler alert.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Yes i agree, in the step child tri level there may be 6 teams so far but from what I can tell there is only one solid team. That team should sweep easily.

    ReplyDelete
  184. And my point is you have to be in the game to choke. Hard to lose in a tiebreaker when you go down in straights. You have to make it to Sectionals to lose in it. I agree that brouer and Robinson should play in the big matches but smith is consistently contributes on sucessful teams and deserves some credit.

  186. Think again. He is on the bench for the most part. We only play him when it doesnt matter and he constantly and consistantly lets us down. Even when it doesnt matter. Do you think I will play him this time? Oh, did I say that?

    ReplyDelete
  187. I don't know Jason. At first he seemed like a nice guy but the more he post the more he seems like a "Real Jackass". Almost Getz like!!

    ReplyDelete
  188. O.K. O.K so Team Bazan will sweep the Step Child. Big deal. They should since his team is playing against second string guys on all of the other teams. Stop tooting your own horn. Can we move on to bigger and better things now?

    ReplyDelete
  189. i heard cary is moving with Jason Freeman to Washington DC as his personal assitant. Is Cary quitting the blog altogther, where is he, not talking smack about tri level or trying to out boast Eddie, I am bored now.

  191. Brian,
Like to meet you someday. Don't know if we ever met but if we did you would understand that tennis isn't my life but having full custody of my two daughters is what drives me. Oh, is choking going into a house on fire at 3am in Frisco, cutting a hole in the roof as a firefighter and bringing out a family on the second floor and then going to a sectional match on no sleep, choking? If it is I am a choker, thanks for the label. I got 20 guys as Frisco Central Fire station that would love to spend a little one on one time with you as they would label me something completely different than a choker. I played as well as I could and I play my best each match given my abilities. Give me your last name and I'll check your record. Sound like your a great guy. Funny tennis might make you great but it doesn't define me. Last entry. Gotta go raise my daughters.

    Doug Smith

    ReplyDelete
  192. Let's see now, after cutting a hole in the roof exactly how did you find your way through the attic to those little wobbly stairs down to the second floor to get the family? Something doesn't sound right. I don't recall anyone smelling of smoke either.

    ReplyDelete
  193. I know Doug Smith. He is a great guy and he is NOT a choker. But I do admit he gets nervous and plays like crap when the stakes are high.

    ReplyDelete
  194. Smith, why would you play yourself if you had no sleep? You should have told your captain you were tired from raising your daughters and fighting fires. We can now call you Mr. Sensitive or Mr. Soft. Icepick, did you know your partner was tired?
    B

    ReplyDelete
  195. Brian,
I am not making excuses and I wasn't tired. I played my best. Really you are expending way too much energy on me. I am an average player and that is fine with me. Keep blogging if I'm that interesting to you. Mr. Soft that's me. You know me so well. I lost way too many times this year, my record was awful. Don't know why I am even wanted on a team. By the way, I haven't committed to anyone's team but I'm sure no one is interested in my talent as a tennis player. Have we played before or are you in another city just checking my record without having seen me play? Either way, what's your last name? I know Joel and Jason by last name, would love to hear your last name so everyone can see your record as well for all the scutiny. Bet you have won sectionals the last few years and have a great record. Did we meet at sectionals ever? Let me know if you want to play some singles or double's sometime soon. Again, I'm not making excuses, just letting you know tennis is 3rd or fourth in line of my values but I'll bring it if you want to play, if you are a 5.0 or open player let's clash on the courts instead of this method of debating a player's talent level. I'm ready for Tri's so hope we meet there as well. Does anyone know Brian's last name? I'd be interested in it!

    Doug Smith
