So I am on a break so I thought I would post one last thing since I had to stop and get some directions off of a library computer.
3.5 looks to be almost set as Westlake and Brookhaven are both doing well in their respective flight.
4.0 Blue Flight comes down to the 2p match between BH/Burt and HP/Bob. High Point has been dominate and look really good from top to bottom. They will be tough to beat this afternoon and on Sunday but Burt's crew has been playing well too and Mark and Jon Renwick could give them a chance.
Ahh and then in the Red Flight Team Eddie was beaten by the SWAT team and the Lakes beat OC so there is a 4 way tie. Anything can happen this afternoon so we will see.
I saw Nwood and Royal Oaks start as I left, Coredawg looked ready to get a win, but we will see.
Northwood beat Royal Oaks and it was Royal Oaks that stacked - but yet it wasn't enough.
ReplyDelete3-2 Northwood. OC beat Brookhaven 4-1.
How did Royal Oaks stack? Yes Joey played #2, but Brownlee probably beats Corey and Joey would be McCord so in this case it played against them.
ReplyDeleteDoubles teams were weak outside of #2 RO, so bad that the Russian did not play, but nonetheless good win by Corey and gang, but far from over.
This 4.0 thing is really up for grabs. Go Lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure RO stacked it b/c they were expecting Corey to play #1 and McCord #2. Kudos to Corey for going against what he did in the season and playing it straight up. I bet RO was shocked when they saw the lineups. That's pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks stacked like crazy. They put their #1 doubs at line #2 and put Molina at line #2.
ReplyDeleteWhat an upset! I bet Northwood chokes along the way tomorrow.
nancy is a crafty captain. thats a very good win for northwood
ReplyDeleteNancy got pounded 6-1, 6-1 by Molina. But Northwood was able to win 3 lines. Nice victory. I can't see anyone beating Northwood at this point.
ReplyDeleteNancy is going to have the fall championship!
Nancy says booya!!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe I played #1 singles once this season. So I'm not sure where it came up that we stack all the time, but obviously it worked in our favor. The only competitive matches were line 3 doubles and line 1 singles. We were fortunate to win both. I think this is the best I've ever felt after losing 1 and 1 but we have a long way to go.
Thanks to the blog for giving my players motivation to go out and win today. Keep it up!!!
Great win by Oak Creek and a great individual win by Vik to take out undefeated David Hall.
BTW, I will lose every match 1 and 1 if the team wins. I may get a chance to do that too with some of the singles players we will be going against tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks played like crap today and Northwood got lucky. I expect Oak Creek and Brookhaven to beat Northwood and Royal Oaks to still take the fall championship.
ReplyDeleteSo true. We've gotten lucky in 9 matches this season. I don't know how we've won any.
ReplyDeleteIs it not possible to go out and play and then take it like a man when you lose?
ReplyDelete"Oh we played bad and man they had like 4 net balls on critical points." Man up, give props and hope one of the other teams can put you back in this.
Good Win for Northwood. Where wss Dmitry Kaforin for RO today?
ReplyDeleteHow did the 4.0 matches turn out tonight? I know that all of the teams were 1-1 in one of the flights.
ReplyDeleteCary?
Both HP teams in the finals. Bazan vs Somabut
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to Lifetime? Did Forrest play?
ReplyDeleteMy ability to predict continues to shine. I thought Lifetime would win for sure. I feel bad for them after all of the heat they've taken. What time is the final?
ReplyDeleteEveryone knew lifetime sucked. Maybe they will finally shut up, but I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteI just learned that Joey Molina is playing 4.5 tennis and watched him on the court today. If a 4.5 NTRP is the best the Director of Tennis at Royal Oaks can do, I will SURELY not take my own children there for lessons or make a RO recommendation to others I know. That's just pathetic for a city the size of Dallas and a club the size of Royal Oaks.
ReplyDelete:P
After reading the blog I figured it was time to watch the great Lifetime. I was shocked how average they looked. Lifetime has a few nice players, FF, Kennedy, Myers, but overall they are average at best.
ReplyDeleteLifetime still has yet to win ANYTHING. Except maybe the prize for the most blow hard, obnoxious, often wrong bloggers.
ReplyDeleteHow about a little humble pie lifetimers? We know you gotta say something. You can't help yourselves. Might as well say something profound for a change. Like we sucked and over-hyped our team.
I'm amazed at your humility Corey!!
ReplyDeleteGood win today.
Slezak
If things go like I hope tomorrow, you might change your tune Chris. :)
ReplyDeleteTo the poster that had the negative things to say about Joey Molina you must not know him at all nor his highly respected backround. So what if Molina has a 4.5 rating at least the guy is competing in 4.5 as a singles player which he plays because he likes to compete. People all around Dallas know how competitive USTA league is and rather than just let your racquet do the talking they hide behind there anonymous comments. People like Slezak,Coredawg love the game and thats what tennis is really about at our amateur level.

Hey Sleezy why couldnt you guys just dominate these Fall League team like usual. These guys dont stand a chance against the summer Branch like teams.
ReplyDeleteHey Sleezy why couldnt you guys just dominate these Fall League team like usual. These guys dont stand a chance against the summer Branch like teams.
ReplyDeleteWould Dmitry Kaforin have made the difference in the match between Northwood and Royal Oaks?? Isnt Kaforin a current Colin County Player? How did Rothwell pull that one off?
ReplyDeleteFor the record Northwood didn't have Blake Mason today who is undefeated on the year. You play with what you got.
ReplyDeleteArrogance and dishonor do NOT equal champions. Lifetime and Forrest got what they deserved. Maybe they will have learned a "Lifetime" lesson from this season.
ReplyDeleteWe stunk it up this weekend. I have resigned my position as Lifetimer and will forever be known as "Hightimer".
ReplyDeleteNancy Rules!!!
ReplyDeleteJust because we aren't in the finals doesn't mean we aren't the best team. Eddie told us to tank against OC so that we can rule in the Spring where it really matters. The Fall means nothing. Lifetime will rule the Spring.
ReplyDeleteFall means nothing to all that don't win it.
ReplyDeleteSour grapes!
Should the first tiebreaker be head to head when only 2 team are tied?
ReplyDeleteFinals for 4.0 would be much different for today.
Cary, given that you benefited from the current rule, what is your take on this? Should it be change going forward? Vote needed?
Tennislink shows that RO lost AGAIN, 4-1 to Feldman. Over-rated!
ReplyDeleteBH beat Northwood 3-2. Unless Feldman loses 5-0 to Northwood, Feldman will win DCC.
ReplyDeletefunny how Durten/Wright lose to 2 4.o's a few weeks back and say they played straight up, but now have beaten 2 solid 4.5 teams at DCC.
ReplyDeleteCan we say score management!!!
Feldman loses 3-2 to Northwood, but 2 was enough to win the DCC.
ReplyDeleteI should mention RO lost again to BH, this time losing 5-0, not sure if they even showed up, but it was enough to push BH ahead of Northwood in the 3 way tie, but only good for 2nd.
Who won the battle of HPs?
ReplyDeleteIt was a great weekend of tennis at the 4.5 level. Every match we played ended 3-2, and the outcomes of each of those matches could have changed if the other player wins the tiebreaker (including the one I lost against Brookhaven).
ReplyDeleteI will take credit for predicting that no team would go undefeated this weekend and that all teams would be really competitive. Regardless of what some may say, Royal Oaks was competitive in the matches that mattered. They had no reason to try to win the final match.
It is somewhat depressing that we beat the team that won the fall but I take responsibility for the team's failure to win for the third straight season.
Congratulations to Todd and his team and we look forward to coming back next season.
MVP Awards for this weekend
ReplyDeleteSingles
Dustin Viktorin 3-0 with wins over Hall, Molina, and McCord. Very impressive to beat those three players in a 26-hour span. Vik overcame a match point against McCord to pull out the final match today.
Doubles
I have to give credit to my guys Doug and Jim for going 3-0 with two dramatic victories today over four solid players.
Good luck in 5.0 to you three guys.
HP/Somabut cruises to a 5-0 win against HP/Bazan
ReplyDeleteNancy, congrats on a really good season!
ReplyDeleteSWAT got unlucky with the tiebreaks..... HP Bob is overrated and will break apart in the spring. Too many sandbaggers on that team
ReplyDeleteHP/Bob shows their dominance again. Can anyone in Dallas beat these guys???
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how quick Bob's team goes from overrated to sandbaggers. You just can't please some people.
ReplyDeleteFor the entire fall just about all the posters on this blog wrote off Bob's team. We were to finish way back in the pack at best. For the most part our team kept quiet on this blog, especially compared to LTF and HP/Bazan.
ReplyDeleteAs the last post by Cary said. It was put up or shut up time. The rest of you can SHUT UP.
HP/Somabut wins and earned it all the way. Bob is a great captain of this ship. The rest of you can suck hind tit for awhile.
I for one was impressed by Felman this weekend, I didn't think they could win this thing but then fought hard...Nice job by Dustin in particular with the 3 singles wins, very strong...As for the donkeys that said Royal Oaks stacked the singles, you are not smart...I don't think Joey can even beat Tim, regardless, there was some fun tennis, good job by all! I only have one complaint, the guy running the desk, any one know his name? The guy was a total dick the entire weekend, for no appearant reason. If you don't want to be there, you don't HAVE to! And where was the freakin keg?
ReplyDeleteold school-
see ya in the spring
To the 2:44 poster:
ReplyDelete"HP/Bob shows their dominance again. Can anyone in Dallas beat these guys???"
If you check their record you will see they had 1 lose this season and I believe it was a Dallas team that beat them.
Lifetime can't even win with Forrest. They will really suck next year when he gets bumped up.
ReplyDeleteHP/ Bob owned this weekend. We do are talking on the court not on the blogs. See you ladies in the spring.
ReplyDeleteHP Bazan was a strong team. We were are able to come through with some early tiebreaks (even though it wouldnt have mattered).
ReplyDeleteIm surprised HP Bazan was in the final even though OC beat them head to head. The system like the BCS is jacked up.
It woulda been fun to beat down Lifetime but that can wait till the spring.
Man oh man is this just a place to talk it up or what. Stackers, sandbaggers, over-rated. The fact of the matter remains HP-Bob reloaded and dominated all season. Their one loss was the fuel to kick it into another gear. You see the difference is there goal is not just the city of Dallas. So while all of you squabble about table scraps HP-Bob is in for spring no matter what! If they decide to win it again in the spring that should cut down the tournament to only 4. So like it has been said before here is the crow, eat it!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, what did SWAT stand for?
ReplyDeleteI hope it didnt stand for losing 5-0 in the finals.
Some of Bob's players do well in 4.5 and win all their 4.0 matches. They will get bumped. It looks like they have some guys that will emerge to take over. By the looks of it they will do strongly in spring.
ReplyDeleteKnowing Molina, loving Molina, or hating Molina is immaterial to the fact that his position at Royal Oaks and his NTRP rating are asymmetric. Either he doesn't practice what he preaches (by playing as a mere 4.5 as a teaching pro) or he's playing on a 4.5 team while actually being a higher ratable player. Either way...it's incongruous and shameful.
ReplyDeleteMake that "head teaching pro"...no wait: the title of "Royal Oaks Tennis Director" for Molina.
ReplyDelete:p
Congrats Bob! Great job captaining and not being arrogant. Winning with class always beats winning without it. When we win, we congratulate our opponents. Kirby and Ed, you played a great match. 20% of the shots made the match's outcome. When we lose we don't blame anything else but the fact the other team was better. Jarad, it was a blast playing with you today. Bin Nguyen you da man! See ya on the courts. Thanks Ice for watching us this weekend.
ReplyDeleteDoug Smith
Never anonymous. Go ahead and throws some comments my way but of course you won't sign your names.
The worst part was HP could have walked off the court up 3-0 but ended up finishing the job just for fun
ReplyDeleteWhat a weekend. I am still recovering from the 2 3-2 losses we had. I have nothing to say, but congrats to HP/Somabut. They have proven themselves to be the best 4.0 team in the fall. As for our Lifetime team, we will go back and work harder to achieve our goals for the spring. Personally, I can't wait to get back on the court. See you in April. Eddie.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to HP Bazan. They are all a great group of guys and good beer drinkers. It was a tough final and im glad we squeeked by. Good job Cary on building a strong team and having a blog to add to the fun.
ReplyDeleteMuch props and respect to Team Highpoint especially The Godfather (Bob), Buffet Buddy's (Tim & Doug), Kemp Boys, Hollywood, and Snoop.
Chad you kinda suck :)
See you guys in the spring.
Bin
Why attack Molina. I bet you've never even spoken to the guy. Molina can only be described as a complete gentleman on and off the court. He wins a lot at 4.5 but loses an occasional 4.5 match. Probably a very strong 4.5 (which is the same as being a middle of the road 5.0 player). Outstanding player and a person I would want teaching my kids this great game. The anonymous that attacks Molina is an idiot.
ReplyDeleteIsn't Molina like 50? Do you know how few 50 y/o can play high level 4.5 tennis?
ReplyDeletePlus there are plenty of teaching pros that play 4.0. Your level of play does not have to limit your ability to teach. Look at Bolliteri.
Bad form to attack him.
So I guess your kids won't be going to Nancy either huh?
ReplyDeleteGreat job to all making the playoffs!Especially to those playing on Sunday!
ReplyDeleteSisk
Good job to all that made the playoffs. I don't believe most folks thought the Red flight would be so tight. It made it very interesting.
ReplyDeleteHats off to Bob and the HP /Somabut team for going undefeated on the weekend. You guys keep delivering, very impressive.
The rest of us are jealous; but undaunted and will retool for the next run.
Rockettman.
It was a great playoff weekend in 4.5's. I did think it was poor for RO to lay down and let BH rape them in the final match since it didn't mean anything. With it ending in a 3 way tie, had Northwood won one of the 3rd set tie breaks, then Brookhaven would have won DCC due to the 5-0 win.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Feldman for a great showing.
I have no personal problems with Joey. And whether or not somebody has met him is irrelevant. His record speaks for itself. He has been moved to 5.0 more than once and refuses to play that level. Why?
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with 5.0 players playing 4.5. What I have a problem with is players that get moved up a level but continue to play down and win a high percentage of their matches in a routine fashion. If I ever get moved up to 5.0 (big emphasis on the word if), I will accept it and move on. I get no pleasure out of beating players below my level.
Congratulations to Bob's team for winning again. Sorry we ever doubted you. You are the New England Patriots of 4.0 league tennis.
In Joey's last 16 singles matches, he is 12-4. Not dominant by any means. But in 8 of his 12 wins, he surrendered three games or less. That means that half of his matches were not competitive. In my opinion, that means you're playing the wrong level. If he moved up to 5-0 and failed, I would not have a problem with him moving back down.
ReplyDeletePerhaps this new rule regarding benchmark appeals will make this happen.
I might seem dumb here but if the computer tells me to play 4.5, I'll play 4.5. If it tells me to play 5.0, I'll play 5.0. Them's the rules. I don't see how anyone should be railed against for following the rules and playing what the computer tells you to play. In my mind, I'm a 5.5. To those that watch me, I'm a 4.0. I don't listen to either. I listen to the almighty USTA computer.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell which side you're on. Can you clarify so I can decide whether to attack or defend you? :)
ReplyDeleteDude, quit your bitchin because you got owned by Molina. Take the loss like a man.
ReplyDeleteWhatever. I wasn't the one that brought up the topic. I took responsibility for my losses about five posts earlier. Read much?
ReplyDeleteCorey,
ReplyDeleteIf we followed your logic 2/3 of the DCC Champion Contenders would lose 1/4 of their players as many of them have bumped up and appealed down consistently.
That stops this year and some captains are going to get a rude awakening when they can not appeal down their Spring Superstars who got an ESR at next level but did not play anymore to try and bring it down.
If a team made it to the DCC and a player played a match then they can not appeal their rating effective tis year.
Just so I understand this rule, is "this year" starting in the 2009 Fall DCC or does the 2008 Spring DCC count?
ReplyDeleteThe Spring 2008 DCC
ReplyDeleteanyone think RO tanked out so they could get their Russian rated and have no challenges for the Spring?
ReplyDeletePretty smart then to save him and not risk a DQ even though it cost them a chance at the DCC.
Just wait til spring and all will be clear.
ReplyDeleteRO didn't tank.
ReplyDeleteThe Russian blew off the playoffs - no showed. He went MIA.
That's the risk you take when you recruit a 18-20 college guy.
MIA? I heard he went MwP (Missing with Pussy)
ReplyDeleteHacker - If I was rated 3.5 in Spring, but played up on a Spring 4.0 team and played in DCC on that 4.0 team but lost 0 and 1. ESR made me a 4.0 player, you are saying I am stuck at 4.0 now even if I did not play on a 3.5 DCC team?
ReplyDeleteIn the fall I played a few 4.0 matches as ESR wouldn't allow me to play 3.5, but did not play in DCC.
Did you play a match at the DCC or higher in the Spring Season?
ReplyDeleteIf so you will get a "B" rating, but you may or may not get a 4.0 depending on how the players finished nationwide. ESR is only a Benchmark for the Cities that start their 2009 Season in the Fall 2008.
I am trying to remember if 2009 Season Dallas Fall Matches actually count in 2008 Rating. I would think so, but if not that might save quite a few players such as D Vik and Corey's Doubles Team until the Summer 2009 ESR.
I have been trying to get clarification on the specifics of this rule unsuccessfully. I'm sure we will find out on Dec. 1st when everybody starts going for their appeals.
ReplyDeleteWell to add in my frustration I am trying to see if someone goers undefeated at Sectionals and Nationals in MXD if the Mixed Exclusive Rating is appealable or not.
ReplyDeleteIn this instance a 4.5 player who went 10-0 at 10.0 MXD with a 5.0 partner. Could this player appeal their likely 5.0-5.5 rating?
Sounds similar to Gene Davis. Went to 9.0 mixed nationals and dominated 4.0 the following season, going undefeated at Sectionals.
ReplyDeleteAnyone notice that SENIOR Sectionals will be held in Tyler in 2009 rather than John Newk's?
ReplyDeleteSenior sectionals somewhere else would be a welcome change to me. Having so many courts in a row doesn't make for great doubles play. Especially when you have concentration(and mental) problems anyway.
ReplyDeleteIt did make for a nice road trip to New Braunfels, but I welcome the change. Hope I can get to sectionals again next year.
Buffalo
