So I had a lot better feel in the Spring about 4.5 but without Branch in the mix everything seems up for grabs. It seemed before it was Branch's tourney and the rest of the teams were happy to be there and afterwards talked about how they lost 2-3 Branch and were soooo close. Now one of these four teams has to step up and actually win. With that said here are my thoughts.
Favorite: Royal Oaks (Odds 3 to 1)
With Smithson, Molina, Brownlee and Kaforin they should win this tournament but for them it comes down to getting out those players each time and only two of them can play singles the others have to go get a doubles line but I think they will make this work and end up winning this tourney.
2nd place: OC Feldman (Odds 7 to 1)
This team has a lot of depth and I almost had them as my favorite but their loss to Royal Oaks and close win over High Point didn't excite me enough to vault them to the top but I would not be surprised if they kept the OC torch going under a different name come Sunday afternoon.
Upset minded: Northwood (Odds 18 to 1)
Sorry Coredawg, I do like your team and I think McCord and Fair/Young will get their lines almost every time but finding that 3rd win may cause you an ulcer next weekend. If you all can find the right mix to get one more win next weekend could get really crazy. I do like having a doubles team like Fair/Young who are good for a point, many teams have a singles player they depend on but I think in the playoffs having the strong point in doubles helps.
Longshot: Brookhaven (Odds 30 to 1)
Hmm. I don't think this is a bad team by any stretch but even they know they have Corey to thank for even getting to play next weekend. But if they can take the gift and just play out anything can happen. They do have Hall who has performed well and Ramos/Lasalle is a good combo but not sure that will get it done against these other three teams.
I think that was a fairly accurate assessment Cary. I don't really see any 5-0 matches this weekend but I guess that's typical for the playoffs. It also wouldn't surprise me if no team goes undefeated.
ReplyDeleteYou should readjust the odds. Northwood's McCord, Fair, and Young are not even playing next weekend in the playoffs.
ReplyDeletenancy has a scrappy team and i think you guys have them under-rated. I predict Northwood takes the fall championship.
ReplyDeletethey won't take the championship, but BHaven and Feldman won't be close.
ReplyDeleteMy best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this girl who said Northwood's whole team has the flu except for Corey. So Corey's gonna play all 5 lines next weekend.
ReplyDeletewhat time does RO and Nancys team play ?
ReplyDeleteOver the holidays Nancy and his team will be perfoming at Chip and Dales!
ReplyDeleteThe same person also told me Kaforin fled the country after the grievance was filed. Sad.
ReplyDeleteno, i told you that Kaforin was performing at chip adn dales.
ReplyDeleteIt will all come down to . . .
ReplyDeleteRO vs Nancy's team
Northwood has very weak doubles players.
ReplyDeleteI don't need my top three players to win the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteNorthwood plays Royal Oaks sat.@ 12:00. Might be a good draw for Corey as R.O. may have trouble getting their top players there on sat.
ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks top players are all playing Saturday and Sunday morning. However, they are out Sunday afternoon.
ReplyDeletewow nancy is very cocky
ReplyDeleteYou have a better chance to win the lottery
ReplyDeleteI just spoke with one Northwood players and it does appear that most of their top players are out for the playoffs. This could be a blowout for Royal Oaks.
ReplyDeletewould you want to waste a sat getting your ass kicked by RO if you were on Northwoods team. I would stay at home and watch UT football too. Hook Em
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it will be our C lineup v. Royal Oaks' B lineup. Hard to imagine those pros don't have Saturday lessons.
ReplyDeleteHow 'bout some analysis/predictions of individual matches, assuming all teams have their A lineups.
ReplyDeleteHall v. Kaforin
Molina v. Viktorin
McCord v. Hall
Noel v. Molina
McCord v. Viktorin
etc.
Doubles would be more difficult but I would still be interested.
The Royal Oaks pros will be there Saturday.
ReplyDeleteMan, I want to get down on that RO bet, you taking bets at 3-1 Cary? Give me RO for the max, I can put my kids thru college on this one.
ReplyDeletebeat til your hands bleed on RO at 3-1
ReplyDeleteRacer X is back. I missed this Fall season due to suspension levied by Carey due to an unfortunate incident in the bathroom at the Joule Hotel in Dallas. Seems I broke some glass umbrella thingy while jiving around. The rumors of me failing some drug test are mostly untrue. Now let me catch up and give you the real scoop on this season's playoff picture. This is a no brainer.
ReplyDeleteAs always, and this is a no brainer, you gotta go with OC Branch to win it all...wait...WTF....WTF! Just got a note from my sources saying that I can't go with OC Branch because they lost a match to OC Boverman (didn't OC Branch remember the strategy from the spring and just get OC Boverman to the Coman- they never win the Coman- they won the anti-Coman Award in the Spring).
The Spring had OC Branch, Village (now Northwood), TBar and Royal Oaks. Just a few months later and now we have only 2 of those for competing for the Fall Championship. Good bye to TBAR and OC Branch...Hello to an improved Brookhaven and a mysterious OC Feldman...both were close in the spring but just missed the DCC.
Before team rankings let's break this down a different way.
Singles:
1) Royal Oaks- they can throw in several different people into the 2 singles lines and not lose much. Plus, they may have the best singles player left playing in Molina
2) OC Feldman- same as Royal Oaks- they can rely on several people stepping into the singles spots and win- Zimmerman, Durten, Feldman, Champaign, Vik- great depth and just a small blip below RO's
3) Northwood- less depth and a little less strength than those above I can see the two team above sweeping Northwood in singles and I don't think Northwood could sweep either in singles.. a close call with Brookhaven's singles players
4) Brookhaven- the x factor here...good players but not nearly as strong as RO's or Feldman and probably a hair softer than Northwood
Doubles:
The teams are a lot more closely bunched in the doubles area- also harder to predict playing partners but lets give it a try.
1) Royal Oaks- just because they have the most overall talent out of the four teams. They may not be lines 1-3 tough but with their top singles players they really will need just 1-2 lines in doubles to win a match. They have enough overall talent in players to form some pretty good doubles lines
2) Brookhaven- Brookhaven may not have the studs at the top of the lineup but they don't drop much by the time you get to their 5th line. You won't sweep them in doubles and if they can get the lineups to fall the right way could win a match 3-2 with all 3 wins coming from doubles. Lasalle/Ramos maybe their best team when they want to be.
3) Northwood- may have the top doubles team playing this weekend in Fair/Young but the drop is far after that.
4) OC Feldman- doubles used to be this teams strenght just 12-18 months ago. Now looking for the right combinations and right people to move from singles into doubles. There is some talent here but it needs to gel quickly to make the noise in doubles.
Conclusion:
1) Royal Oaks- 1-2 odds- most talent out of the 4. RO's is the best at winning the 3-2 match. They live the strategy of getting that 3rd match. All you need to go a long, long ways is having the 3 best lines on the court. Royal Oaks was just a match or two from the final 4 at Sectionals 2008- this is a much weaker team than the RO's of the summer but still has enough talent to bring home the automatic bid to next year's DCC. That could mean trouble if the right players are 4.5 next year.
2) Northwood 25-1- this was a toss-up for the #2 spot with #3 OC Feldman. If RO's doesn't bring its A players then this gets interesting. Noel is a crafty captain that massages the line-ups so if the cards fall right. Who knows.
3) OC Feldman 26-1- the match I look forward to more than any this weekend is OC Felman v. Northwood. The first chance to get to see these 2 teams face off since Corey took over. OC Feldan/Conway had for many seasons been the #1 or #2 team in Dallas. For the first time in years, they didn't make the DCC last year (most likely due to an unfortunate placement in the same division with RO's and OC Branch- my best guess is that they would have been in the DCC if they had been placed in the weaker B division with TBar and Village)- this is an OC Feldman team that went 3-2 with OC Branch last year. Anywho- after OC Branch and RO's- the question is... who is the #3 Dallas area team.. the winner of this match will take that spot.. a loss by OC Feldman could mean the years are catching up and the trend from #1 continues downward.
4) Brookhaven- 43-1...A very even team from 1-5- some good singles and some good doubles- I don't see them getting swept by any team 0-5 but I also don't see them winning 3 matches against any of the teams above.
Good luck to all teams. I look forward to watching the matches. Again, I would like to thank Carey for lifting my suspension. Tish says hi.
I only want to correct one thing and it was actually something I was wrong about in a previous post. My team did play OC Feldman the very first season I captained but I honestly don't remember much about either team's lineup. I think I lost to Clint Cash in doubles. Many new players now so I'm very interested in that match too. I just hope it means something for us by Sunday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteHey Corndawg,
ReplyDeleteWhy don't your players play at their proper levels???? You will have a couple of DQ's if anyone finds out. Know what I'm talking aout Vern?
No I don't Ernest.
ReplyDeleteNorthwood doubles are terrible. Have you seen their players? Royal Oaks is bringing the heat Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThere goes Royal Jokes again. Talking about their weak azz team.
ReplyDeleteNorthwood will bend them over and stick it in them this Saturday!!
OVERATED!!!
nancy's team just wont get any respect until they win this thing
ReplyDeleteNancy's team will not win against anyone.
ReplyDeleteI don't play on a team that is playing this weekend so I don't care one way or another but I think Corey's team will win this thing. Mark my words. Noel knows how to win and he has smart players.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the compliments. My team has finished close to first place in men's, combo, tri-level, and mixed. It would be nice to finally win one of these. My TCD team just won it's flight so maybe my luck is turning.
ReplyDeleteYour luck, Nancy, just turned for the worst. Royal Oaks is bringing the heat including its top two players.
ReplyDeleteNoel's luck is really changing. Brookhaven was DQ'd and now Branch is in. They are bringing the double heat and bringing their top 3 players.
ReplyDeleteIs it Saturday yet?
ReplyDeleteHello.....is this thing on?
ReplyDeleteJust in: Northwood is defaulting line 3 singles and doubles for Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThat would have been funny, but there actually is a line 3 doubles genius.
ReplyDeletePreditions-
ReplyDeleteRO 5 NCC 0
OC 3 BH 2
RO 4 OC 1
BH 3 NCC 2
RO 5 BH 0
OC 4 NCC 1
The Great White Rhino is spot on.
ReplyDeleteWow! Is Cary gay? I don't know him but there are some red flags. Next thing you know he is gonna tell us that "Wimbledon" was a good movie!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for more shit talking on here this week, but it looks like every one is just afraid of RO
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect to the Rhino, if you think R.O. is only going to lose 1 match all weekend, you are probably in for a bit of a surprise.
ReplyDeleteThese 4 teams are much closer than that and it will come down to champion tie-breakers.
R.O. may win but the Buffalo has a much different scorecard than the Great White Rhino. Senior Buffalo
Royal Oaks had very few easy matches all season. What makes you think they will suddenly dominate in the playoffs?
ReplyDeleteJust called Cary and he did not like Wimbledon but he does have an unnatural affection for Kirsten Dunst, post re-hab Kirsten only though so he is OK if a sequel comes out with her called "Roland Garros" Selma Hayek as Arantcha Sanchez Vicario and Dunst as Steffi Graf.
ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks will win every match 4-1or better. Apparently, they brought on a doubles team late in the season from California that will crush everyone.
ReplyDeleteWho knew Royal Oaks would be the most talkative team. I would have pegged them as almost never visiting this site.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to a weekend full of good tennis. This is what I signed up for. Should be a lot of close matches. A breaker here or there. Good luck to everybody.
If it rains on Sunday do we have access to covered courts or indoors at BH? Anyone know?
ReplyDeleteWe have been able to in the past. I'm hoping.
ReplyDeleteLet's go Brookhaven! Sweep this weekend.
ReplyDeleteDude its not golf, lowest score doesnt win
ReplyDeletePREDICTION
ReplyDeleteCorey vs. Joey
1 6
0 6
If I lose 1 and O to anybody then they must be on tour. Besides, Joey has to give me more games than that or we will stop letting him use courts at Fair Oaks for his tournaments. :)
ReplyDeleteJoey Molina will dominate Nancy.
ReplyDeleteTour? Hahahaha...You are a joke! I can name 10 teaching pros in Dallas who would put a double bagel on your weak ass! On tour, thats the hardest I have laughed in a long time!
ReplyDeleteI want to see Rhino and Corey play, in a death match, loser dies!
ReplyDeleteI'll take the Great White Rhino over Nancy any day
ReplyDeleteIt's ok Corey, whoever is laughing at you probably plays line 3 doubles for Stonebridge and feels better about themself after losing 6-0 6-0 when they can come on here and laugh about you losing to a tour pro.
ReplyDeleteStonebridge has a team?
ReplyDeleteHaven't you already lost by that score this year?
ReplyDeleteOh wait that was 6-0, 6-2.
By the way, the tour comment was a joke. I wouldn't expect anonymous to understand that. If it doesn't involve farts or racial humor it's over your head.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know the 10 teaching pros in Dallas that could double bagel me though, considering the vast majority of them don't even play. I would say 90 percent of teaching pros are 4.5 at best.
ReplyDeleteI can picture that as a "Diggstown"-type bet. Am I the only one who saw that movie?
ReplyDeleteIntriago, Tisdale, Painter, Eddins, Cole, Hagan, Bui, Madden, Jimenez, Fimbres, Westbrooks,...you want ten more? That took about 15 seconds to think of...
ReplyDeleteCole, Farmer, Hernandez, Popp, Anderson, i got more!!!!
ReplyDeletelol joke
Corey doesn't realize how small a fish he is.
ReplyDeleteI Love all this Playoff Talk but will any of these Teams be Strong Enough to be truly Competitive at the Summer Sectional Level. I've never seen CoreDawg play but I haven't seen him compete in the Summer League Sectionals Event so it makes me wonder. Branch is as dominant as it comes to Dallas League 4.5 Tennis the last couple of years and I really dont see that changing this upcoming Summer League. As far as Royal Oaks goes it was nice to see them at Sectionals last year but they were way overated IMO as to be being a Contender. Do they have the Squad this Year to make a true Sectionals run??
ReplyDeleteBest of Luck to the Teams this upcoming weekend.
Houston League Tennis Playa
Dude don't come in here with that crap! The Carribean used you guys as a toilet at nationals!
ReplyDeleteTo the last poster Great use of words. Houston was used as a toilet by Caribbean. Maybe Dallas can be defeated again by Houston Teams at Sectionals. When was the last time a Dallas Team has advanced to Nationals.. HMMM E nuff said!!
ReplyDeleteThey will win the next one...SA style! Enjoy the show dipshit
ReplyDeleteKeep on dreaming that they will win the next one. As for them winning SA style what is that supposed to mean?? Cheat like hell I suppose. Don't be mad that you won't be on the winning team.
ReplyDeleteYeah, my mom tells me I'm great. I can name 100 people in Dallas that can beat me. So what? I can say that about anybody that plays at the 4.5 level or below? We are all trying to play the best we can, not be #1 in the world.
ReplyDeleteWe all know that whoever wins this weekend will have an uphill battle against Branch in the spring, but this would be a nice advantage to have going in.
By no means do I mean any disrespect to CoreDawg. As a tennis competitor from Houston at least your competing which is more than I can say about others. I was merely stating that I haven't seen you at Sectionals and that it would be nice to see a different face or team at Sectionals rather than the OC Branch Team as usual. It may be an uphill battle against Branch's summer team but pls continue to put the pressure on them. Upsets are bound to happen.
ReplyDeleteWe are trying. This is my 3rd season to captain and I feel like the team is getting better every season. We hope to see you at Sectionals.
ReplyDeleteRoyal Oaks should dominate the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteAccording to tennis link, end of season ratings have a tentative release date of Dec. 1. Time to see if that tanking and sandbagging paid off.
ReplyDeleteWhat?? TANKING in league tennis. No one does that do they??
ReplyDeleteHow about the upset today?
ReplyDeleteWill be interesting to see the final BCS, I mean blog standings. How will Lifetime and HP/Bazan rate themselves after this past weekend?
ReplyDelete
