End of 40s, upcoming playoffs and flights are out

Well the season for the older guys over 40 is over and most people have reported.  The playoffs are set if not actually published.  Flights for the real season are published and I will address that when schedules come out and after playoffs.  Time to get started.

4.5+  Springpark and LB Houston advanced out of flight A.  It appears Springpark went very light and squeezed TBar out of the playoffs.  This is smart captaining as TBar is a tougher out when they hae their best players available.  In Flight B, Brookhaven won and Greenhill took second.  It was quite a battle for second place with Rossouw coming in at 6-4 to take second place.

Playoffs aren't published but the matchups should be:

Round 1
Brookhaven vs Greenhill--Prediction 4-1 Brookhaven
Springpark vs LB Houston--Prediction 4-1 Springpark

Round 2
Springpark v Greenhill--Prediction 4-1 Springpark
Brookhaven v LB Houston--Prediction 4-1 Brookhaven

Round 3
Springpark v Brookhaven--Springpark 3-2
Greenhill v LB Houston--Doesn't matter

There is usually a wildcard into sectionals for this so both are likely.  Both are very good teams.

4.0  Fretz and McKinney advanced out of Flight A.  Fretz was undefeated and McKinney had their only loss against Fretz.  In Flight B, Springpark and Greenhill advanced.

Expected Playoffs will be:

Round 1:
Fretz v Greenhill:  Prediction 4-1 Fretz
Springpark v McKinney: Prediction 3-2 Springpark

Round 2
Fretz v Springpark: Prediciton 3-2 Fretz
McKinney v Greenhill: Prediction 4-1 McKinney

Round 3:
Fretz v McKinney: Prediction 4-1 Fretz
Greenhill v Springpark: Prediction 3-2 Springpark

I like Fretz to advance.

3.5:  This appears to be a mess because so many matches are unreported.  I was under the impression matches had to be finished and reported by today.  I think there is a 3 team playoff for playoffs and the three teams are obvious.  They are Greenhill, McKinney and Canyon Creek.  Since so many matches are unreported, I can't even guess the order.

  1. how did Tbar not advance in the last week in mens 40's???!!! They were ahead of LB houston in wins and just needed an LBH loss to advance. That is hard to believe.

  2. The 3.5 men's 40 winner is Greenhill with an impressive 9-1 record.

    1. What is inpressive about a blemished record?

    2. why is so blemished with 9-1 record, sounds like sour grapes 8:00am
Let me guess you didn't advance !!! sorry I guess you didn't learn how to play or sandbag like the rest of the posters. Guess what, Greenhill 3.5 advance.
We would have been 10-0 but we didnt get the line up we normally play due to the weather.

    3. You lost 3-2 and got two defaults to the last place team. You couldn't get one decent line out? Your ringer Whiteley choked!

  3. Alzuro is a genius!

  4. Alzuro is a chameleon. You think he is a 3.5/4.0 player because of his rating, but what he really is a 4.5/5.0 unleashed. He has a 140 mph serve when his shoulder isn't bad. He always is just a fraction away from winning, but just lets his competition win so he doesn't embarrass them.

As for captaining, he is amazing. He always seems to be one step ahead, strategically outwitting his opponents. I'm surprised he hasn't been to Nationals more often. It is usually because his 5.0 level serve is off due to a bad shoulder, otherwise, he would trump Bender and Kelly.

  5. Alzuro's only team loss was Canyon Creek/Nolen's only team win.

  6. Dont put Alzuro in same breath as Bender and Kelly for national appearances. But he does compare w them when it comes to playing only when necessary.

  7. At 4.0, assuming Fretz is a lock, there will be a three way battle for a possible wildcard. Assuming Alan plays for Springpark, does that make them the favorite for second? Looks like Murray's post thinks so. Friday's McKinney/Springpark match will likely decide it.

    1. Murray doesn't know shit. Springpark isn't winning anything.

  8. Fretz wins 4.0 and it will be tight for that WC spot. Third set breakers will probably decide who gets 2nd place.

  9. they may not win mens but Alan dominates mixed. Headed to mixed sectionals again (ho hum), so if he plays this weekend they have a shot. Look at his last 5 years in mixed...anytime he plays there is a chance. They have Mike Pearson as well, who when playing is best 4.0 singles player just behind Alan who is best in league.

  10. Alzuro definitely advances. He knows how to captain come crunch time.

    1. Murray continues to be clueless. 3.5 doesn't have a playoff.

  11. Pearson actually plays for Fretz in 40 & Over

  12. Why would Alan give up his 4.0 rating so easily? With playoff results counting a lot more than the regular season I'd look for him to maybe play against McKinney to help push SP into the WC position.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Because I don't care if I get bumped back up. I'll just play and see what happens. If the captain puts me in, I'll play to win.

    1. Such nonsense. You tanked to get down to 4.0 so why come on here and pretend you don't care?

      Delete
    2. How is it nonsense? I explained before. I played 4.5 with mainly 4.0's and we lost. I think my scores indicate that I'm not protecting my rating. I've won all my matches.

  14. SP just having fun. If they win, so be it. If not, they still have the best mixed team on the planet.

  15. Spring failed twice. Hahahaha!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. They failed twice bec there was no singles players to give them a 1-0 for sure win. If I am Alan I would tell Kelley if he doesn't help them win men's he can't play mixed. Alan is the pro and should put an ultimatum in place.

  17. I think the 4.5 SP team won. Last tiebreaker is games lost. SP had the least.

    ReplyDelete
  18. SP lost head to head vs brookhaven, not on games lost. for those who hate kelley i dont blame em. But i can say without him it is tough. SP 4.5 needed him to play and they are beating brookhaven and easily advancing if he does play. he easily wins either that line 2 singles or line 2 doubles loss. brookhaven prob pretty happy he didnt!!

    1. MK gotta protect that 4.5 rating so he can keep playing against those 3.5 girls.

  19. How does a great captain like Keith Clark build a winning 40's team. The key is the fall record.
    1. Recruit players who didn't win in the fall. 8 of the 13 players used in playoffs were a combined 0 and 27 without winning a set in the fall.
    2. Team had 2 players, Jerry Palacioz and Ron Corcoran who were 5-1. Tom Schindler was 3-1. You try not to play them. Outside of these 2 and Tom who must not have gotten the memo, the Fretz team was a combined 10 wins and 52 losses In the fall.
The US Davis Cup team needs Keith to tell them how to turn a bunch of losers in to champions.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Why would anyone win in the Fall? It is meaningless. Most people would actually sit out the fall season except the USTA bumps people up even though they sat out the fall season. If the USTA would quit bumping people who didn't play in the fall you wouldn't have this issue. But because they do, players lose matches to insure they are not bumped so they can at least play in the spring season.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Fall results should not be factored into ratings (just like Houston), that takes away one of the key tools that questionable captains in Dallas use to get players bumped down in time for the Spring. How many players were 4.5 and used the fall to effectively bump back down to 4.0?

    ReplyDelete
  22. BTW, the reason some people bump up without playing in the Fall is that playoff results from the spring occur after the mid-year ratings calculations are computed and also factor more than regular season matches. For those players that play two regular season matches to qualify for playoffs while protecting their ratings, that is bad news because their impressive playoff results that magically happen impact their year end rating. For now, that is not a issue they can't overcome , because the DTA continues to allow Fall results to be factored in to year end rating, which gives those captains and players the loophole they need to accomplish their bump downs.

    1. Playoff results do count more. And fall matches count much less. If you are bumped up mid-year and then are back down at year end, you probably didn't have great playoff results. As for all those fall records, you're giving them too much credit.

      Delete
  23. I think more 4.0/4.5/5.0 players were bumped down to 3.5/4.0/4.5 at year end ratings and used the fall to lose so that they were not bumped back up.

  24. Congrats to Fretz team on you unbeleiveable ability to find your game. After not being able to beat it seems like anyone in the fall now I see you are all undefeated in last weekends playoffs. Way to go Mbede, Zackary, Le, Arcaria, Delapaz, Newman and Voss! You all must be so proud of yourselves!

    3. who does your fact checking? Mbede only played once and Zackary lost once. looking over the results from last weekend I'd say it was a down year for Dallas 4.0 over 40s in general.

  25. 40s was a lock as soon as the rosters filled out. So is 18s. You might as well start complaining about Tony Le winning the 4.0 over 18 city championships now. All you have to do is look at his roster.

    2. Its amazing that people do not understand how leagues work. Nothing that Le or his players did is cheating or in any way unethical. They want to play 4.0. They did what was necessary to get there. If you don't like it then raise your own game and quit being a baby.

    5. Manipulating Fall results is not cheating or in any way unethical?
If you believe this to be true, you are clearly delusional.
I understand that is what they feel they need to do to compete with Houston and to be competitive if they get to nationals, but at a local level it stinks.

      Delete
    6. That is exactly why the USTA has developed a special league for those who don't wish to play competitively at the 4.0 level. It is called 3.5.
