Sorry for the delay in getting this out but here is the thread to talk about the tournament in San Antonio this weekend. This is probably the smallest of the three San Antonio majors but it still is worth 400 points for the winners so I'm sure it means a lot to those playing.
4.5 Singles--The top half looks stacked so whomever makes it to the final will have a lot of tough matches. Sevin, Agostini, and Gloria are all strong candidates. Bottom half is more of a mystery but based on ranking, Ben Hawkins should do well. He and I are playing tomorrow so I should have a better idea of his chances.
4.5 Doubles--I'm not familiar with too many of these teams but the Dugas brothers have been talking a lot of smack on the Houston blog but I don't know if anybody can knock off the top two seeds. A lot of teams from San Antonio entered here.
4.0 Singles--More names here unfamiliar to me but I would expect #1 seed Murray to go at least to the semis. Winans had a bad showing/draw in Abilene so I expect him to rebound with another semifinal here. Spadoni and Yaremenko could surprise some people in the bottom half. Tuyen Nguyen should cruise to the semis in his section. I look for a predictable 1 vs. 2 final unless somebody unknown comes out of the woodwork, which happens in nearly every major.
4.0 Doubles--Interesting quarterfinal between 1 seeds and Knox/Marshall. Winner of that should have good shot to make the finals. Wood/Zepeda have a solid record in majors so they should make the other finals. Other good players include Tim Newman and Tuyen Nguyen but they have different partners so that is always interesting.
3.5 Singles--Still not my area of expertise but here goes. Flores, Kincy, and Whitson should all be strong contenders in the top half of the draw. Bottom half looks tougher with Getz getting 2 seed slot again and Canaan, Anderson, and Van Gompel all have good history. Any sleepers here?
3.5 Doubles--No idea. Somebody else feel free to make predictions.
Valdez should cruise through Open and Reader cruises through 5.0 unless I'm missing something.
Feel free to contradict my predictions or make your own on any other draws.
Good luck to all players this weekend!! We will be watching.
i am posting here cause i think i might be the ONLY post on this thread. PERIOD!
ReplyDeleteWhen is the next decent tourney in Dallas?
Now you're not. Brookhaven has a tourney in March.
ReplyDeleteSpring League rosters are starting to populate. Probably too early to make predictions until the flighting though.
ReplyDeleteIn 3.5 - Chris Jones was in the Abilene Final,
ReplyDeleteWould have won if not for injury,
He's got 4.0 game,
He should win if he can stay healthy.
4.0 - watch out for Joseph Spacek,
ReplyDeleteWon a weak tournament last week,
Playing well and with confidence.
Re: 3.5
ReplyDeleteI played beside Chris Jones at Abilene. He has no business playing 3.5. I'm personally a 4.0 and his strokes and game is better than mine.

ReplyDeleteYa, poeple care as only 3 of the 8 post are in reference to the Major in SA. HAHA
ReplyDeleteThat's because the other 5 posts are all from you. And now you've suckered me into adding another one that has nothing to do with the MZ. Excellent work.
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous 9:32 If you think this blog is pointless stay off of it. I have not posted anything lately because of JERKS like you. This blog is quite entertaining and sometimes has good tennis information like it was created for.But people like you that post as ANONS.with your degrading stupid comments are making it pretty disgusting. Even Cary Bazan doesnt post any more because of what happened to what he created. If you cant say anything worthwhile dont say anything!!! As far as tha San Antonio Major this weekend dont be suprised if a local San Antonio player WINS. They always seem to sneak some ringer in the 3.5 level. As an average 3.5 player myself I think this draw is up for grabs. No dominating player entered. But Good Luck to all our Dallas area players playing. Maybe some of the regulars will start posting again if we clean up the abuseiveness of your comments. How about some Senior League posting there are 6 really good teams fighting for the Playoffs at this time!!! Also why dont you guys clean up the language.
ReplyDeleteWhy dont you STFU!!!
ReplyDeleteSeniors, that sounds interesting!!
ReplyDeleteI agree this site is funny, but only because of the anons. People need to quit being so sensitive to the anon comments.
ReplyDeleteAnyone know when the Spring season starts? Which weekend? Thanks
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ed. Those Anons that simply post hateful comments, like STFU, are the reason most tennis players don't even bother to look at this site any more. If you have something to contribute about tennis, no matter what level it is, then you should be able to do so without being bashed by ANONS. As for San Antonio, look for Tuyen to win in 4.0 and Chris Jones on 3.5
ReplyDeleteHateful comments? WTF? I thought it was part of the male bonding process.
ReplyDeleteSigh
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I am call a dumb ass or act am one, does that make my serve any stronger or weaker, my backhand better or worse? Never understood how labeling a person for other than court calls had any effect on my or their game. Understand someone playing above or below their level being questioned, but they know they are out of their level so saying they are a XX or XYZ does not raise/lower their game. If I play in a 4.5 league and I am a 3.5 player, should I be called XX or XYZ? I don't have alot of respect for those that sincerely play out of their level, but can only confront them with my thoughts. I think there are what I call 3.50 players and 3.59 players as well in the other levels as well. Because a 3.5 player does not win any matches does not say they should be a 3.0 player nor should they win all their matches they should be moved to 4.0. We have all won 0&0 against a player of our same level, and then lost to a lower player that is not same rating as we are. I would hope that this site is to discuss openingly players & teams about their game, not to peg them as XX or XYZ. "John Jones" should be playing at another level as his game is such...period. He knows it so move on. Moving on gives us a better knowledge of the Dallas Tennis circles & enjoyment of the game.
ReplyDeleteT. Newman
i was poster 948 pm. easy to throw rocks from the sideline, but i was only noticing that it seems like that there are maybe 7 dallas players playing in SA?
ReplyDeleteBUT, as an Anon, I would like to say that I hate Anons!! They Suck! I would post my name, but then some Anon is going to bash me! Hell, I bet some Anon still bashes me!
"Hear Hear" Ed! Never met you, but totally agree. I think we all could do without the 4 letter words, wife/girl friend talk, and so much bashing.
ReplyDeleteI would even vote again to get rid of anonymous posting. Might be a bit more boring, but much more civil.
And yes, let's do a senior thread. My knees are making enough paper sounds, and in enough pain to relate to that thread.
For San Antonio, my predictions:
4.0 singles: looks like James Murry will be tough to beat. I give him an edge over Tim Newman.
My sleeper again is Oleg Yaramenko.
4.0 dubs: have to go with the 1 seeds again, in Tim Collier and Tim Purser, don't know Tim's new partner Vince Kingsley so can't fote for them. Don't see a sleeper here.
4.5 singles: I'm going with Mario Gloria, and sleeper Alfonso Gonzales.
4.5 dubs: Nguyen and Pham to win it!
Tri Level sectional draws are out. Thompson's team looks like they got in the easy side. Good Luck Dallas Men and Ladies!!!!
ReplyDeleteHey Ed
ReplyDeleteI haven't forgotten you all and still read the comments once a day.
I wish I knew more about the tourneys and had the time to play in them as well. I think the guys who get out to these first two major zones are smart to go after these two.
Kirby,
Are you running a PR campaign for Oleg, do we need to sign up on on the 4.5 team or something????
I like Tuyen to do well and possibly Surbaugh from SA in the 4.0S draw.
We can talk seniors when you all get to the playoffs.
Regarding Oleg - The guy somehow has a 3.5 rating these days. So chew on that if you're building a team at that level.
ReplyDeleteAs Oak Ridge Captain, Enrique Molina and Oleg Yaremenko are going to play for me in the Spring League. Both have already committed so forget it!!!
ReplyDeleteHeck of a pick up Ed! Cary, Oleg and another Russian guy were playing 4.5 doubles together, so I just figured he should be strong at 4.0 -- let's sign him. Ed, you don't have a 4.0 team too do you?
ReplyDeleteGood luck Thompson men! You guys can definitely win it.
Cary, put a senior thread just so they can talk without having some of the anon interruptions. Surely anon's won't care about their world. Can you put one specific thread without anonymous postings?
The Fake Tri-Level Sectionals has only 2 teams besides Dallas. 1 is College Station who is always very weak. The other is FWT who should be good. But how does it make sense for Dallas and FWT to both travel to Kingwood to play? The entire Fake event kinda sucks.
ReplyDeleteyep I think this might have been the last year for the Jr. Tri Level. It was a good idea but interest at 3.0 just failed to make this relevant outside of D/FW. Last year at Kingwood we were lucky that SETX and NETX played as well. But College Station defaulted 3.0 in every match last year at sectionals so I wonder what will happen this time.
ReplyDeleteMaybe next year there should be the main tri level event and then a Dallas v. FW event with the finals somewhere in between like Grapevine, Arlington, Grand Prairie or possibly Irving (LBH)?
Oleg at 3.5?, he will do well there.
Sounds like Ed Ratface is trying to take over for Sisk with his recruitment of "out of level" players. Kind of funny since it seems to me that Ratface was the one giving the verbal abuse to Sisk a few months ago...
ReplyDeleteWhy would any captain risk someone like Oleg? Makes not only himself look bad, but when Oleg gets DQ'd it affects his entire team. Real classy act.
ReplyDeleteGo TEAM ROSSEAU at Tri Level sectionals this weekend!!!!! You can do it....
ReplyDeleteWhy would Oleg get DQ'd? Its a computer rating. He didn't tank to get it.
ReplyDeleteHe has 4.5 strokes but lacks consistency & a game plan.
TAKE HOUSTON DOWN!!!!!!
ReplyDelete4.5 strokes but not consistent =- 4.0 player. To play 3.5 puts him on Pussy Alert.
ReplyDeleteSo, Oleg plays 4.5, sits out 4 years, comes back and self rates as 3.5? Pussy alert for sure. Sounds like 7:49AM was right...Why would Ratcliffe risk it? He must be desperate to win.
ReplyDelete^
ReplyDelete|
It's a computer rating genius. He didn't sit out any years. He's playing where the computer tells him to play. What's so wrong with that?
Kaiser 3.5 is still the team to beat this year! A little early for the shout outs - but I have this one already put in the done deal folder.
ReplyDeleteUp until this year I saw Oleg entered in many 4.5 tournaments so I don't see how he could be rated 4.5. He won several matches at the 4.5 level. Grievance will be forthcoming I would expect.
ReplyDeleteCorey Corey. Talking like you know something when you don't. Make me have to hit you with some facts.
ReplyDelete0-2 at 4.5 in 2008
2-19 at 4.5 in 2007
Does that count as several wins? These are all mostly local tournaments so you know quite a few of these matches could have been against 4.0 players.
What are you going to file a grievance about, that the computer is wrong? He's not even a 3.5 appeal.
I am sure Kaiser will be on here to pump up the LTF roster!! They do have a number of good players already registered though.
ReplyDeleteI have heard Oleg is unreliable,
ReplyDeleteI would not count on him until he signs up and shows up,
He was supposed to be on a team last season but never showed.
I've played Oleg in a 4.5 tournament before and he's got a big game..he just can't harness it and gets frustrated and makes too many errors. He's was like the Safin of the 4.5 division and his record in 4.5 isn't that great. I can't imagine people getting on his case about a 4.0 rating (unless he wins a MZ tournament this year) but he's definitely not a 3.5.

To All the Anonymous posters. Oleg was computor rated a 3.5 just as Enrique Molina was. No Selfrate No Appeals. If the Computor has mis rated these players that is not my problem just like Sectional Benchmarks being rated 4.0s with No Appeals. This is the system and as a Captain I am just trying to improve My Team under the Computor Guidelines. So to all you Anons who dont like it just STICK IT!!! John Sisk used Self-Rated x-High school players that were exceptional thats why other teams complained I was not Captain of Oak Ridges Team David Prather was I was only Co-Captain but felt the self rate system was being abused. To Kirby Martin I have never met you and will at some point but We dont have a 4.0 level team since we only have 3 players that would play at that level.David Prather,Kurt Lange, Don Robins who in my opinion was unjustly bumped to that level our other player Ryan Curren has moved away.Well thats about it for now!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't say I would file a grievance. I could care less about what 4.0 players play 3.5. Oleg split sets with Chris Phelps and Steven Brouer, both of whom have been rated 4.5 recently. I never said he was a 4.5 player but he's certainly not a 3.5. Are you arguing he is a 3.5? This is not a personal attack on him, but on the USTA computer. I have no problem with Ed getting him on his team, but I just don't understand how somebody who has only played 4.5 and 4.0 can have a 3.5 rating.
ReplyDeleteEd,
ReplyDeleteDo you think you can win Nationals w/o players out of level? Look at my guy's post Nationals, good production. WE DIDN'T SPLIT SETS WITH THE PUERTO RICANS, NOT CLOSE. They won it! I needed 4.5 talent to compete to win. Don't kid yourself Molina and Oleg aren't 3.5if they are, how does the rest of your 3.5 guy's match up to them in singles? You need 6 more of them to compete at state! Greg Wiley said it best...If they are not on my team,RINGERS! My 2 cents, if they are on my team, high 3.5's!
Sisk
I played Oleg and split sets with him in singles. That makes him a mid to high 3.5 in singles or a low end 4.0 in singles.
ReplyDeleteShit, there it is right there. I guess he beat me in 2 sets. same answer though.
ReplyDeleteJohn, I only care about being able to compete with the best teams in Dallas.I have been to Senior Sectionals with a very competive legit team and didnt Win a match. We finished 2-7.This year our Senior team is fighting for a playoff spot going into the final 2 matches. My main objective is getting my team into the Playoffs every season and enjoy playing in them. I dont have any self rated players on my team so we certainly have no chance of Winning against other sectional teams but enjoy the challenge to compete.Sorry for some of the past negative things that have been previosly posted about you since you were trying to do the same thing..I dont even know any 4.5 players since I am only a very average 3.5 player myself. Good Luck to your team.
ReplyDeleteIf Kaiser plays any matches on his own LTF team, count that as an automatic loss. That guy couldn't win consistantly at 3.0 and can barely take two steps without tripping over his own size 20 feet. The only thing bigger than his feet is his fat trap.
ReplyDeleteTo BMO Lifetime will choke just like they do every year there are too many other good teams for them to beat when rosters are completed I will let you know who they are. GUESS WHO
ReplyDeleteBMO, Didn't you say your team was easily as good as the team that had Pickett a few years ago? Aren't you the guy who said if your team made it to Nats you would have easily won it? Sorry, but a team that loses to Dirty Garland and then Dirty gets swept is nto going to win nationals.
ReplyDelete4.0 top semi will be all Austin with Spacek vs. Winans. Spacek has won three tourneys in a row and Winans is always tough. Bottom semi should be Tuyen vs. someone he will beat.

ReplyDeleteI deleted it because you represented yourself as him. Stick to the third person. Also, if you have to tell me how funny it was, it probably wasn't.
ReplyDeleteWeak! You don't think many do that to stir things up. You just probably called him to verify that it wasn't him.
ReplyDeleteLighten up Nancy!
ReplyDeleteI know that people do that, hence the reason I created an account. Don't call me a coward because you want to be able to make inflammatory anonymous comments while hiding behind a curtain. That would be hypocritical.
ReplyDeleteAmen. You tell 'em CoreDawg.
ReplyDeleteLove the comment on the size 20...but it aint my feet.
ReplyDeleteNo comments about my team except we will be working hard to improve our game throughout the season.
7:11 AM Anon --post your name and I will be sure I am in the line up that week so you can get yourself a win.
kaiser
Are we talking about 3.5 LTF or the 4.0 LTF? I can honestly say either team has NEVER choked.
ReplyDeleteWith any team that I have played on, when we got beat, I always thought we got beat by a better team. I haven't seen us beat ourselves at all in the recent past.
I think my comment was taken out of text, AND not even NEAR that strong of a statement. But, I felt that 3.5 team WAS every bit as good as the team that I played on when Pickett was on my 3.5 team.
Furthermore I think that was said BEFORE Dirrty went to Nats and deemed non competitive. Now, I am not so high on Nationals anymore.
I could be perfectly content at winning sectionals and No showing Nationals, unless it was in Vegas or somewhere really fun that serves lots of alcohol.
Remember - qualifying for Nationals is a death sentence to a team. You will not play as a team again for at least one year if ever again.
ReplyDeleteEd,
ReplyDeleteYou're on the right track in your singles dept.I'm looking foward to meeting you and wish your team well.-No worries on the negative chatter,I'm fine with it. In fact,it means we are having success and I'm doing my job!!

This thread is about the SAPTA and now everyone is repeating the exact same comments from sectionals last summer. Seriously!!!!
ReplyDeleteOf the three San Antonio Major Zones _ which is the best to play???
ReplyDeleteKaiser talks all the time and whines like a little girl.
ReplyDeleteBut he does have an excellent 3.5 team put together for the spring season. Maybe the best team in town.
Sectionals in San Antonio is the best but also the most difficult because of higher point value and extra entries.Played in September
ReplyDeleteLifetime always seems to have the best team but for some reason never WIN IT All.Somebody always beats them out at least in 3.5 level. There is going to a very high number of very good teams at the 3.5 level as the rosters are being filled.
ReplyDeleteSectionals is by far the best in September, although actually I have never played either of the other two. But the September tourney has free food and beer, chair umpires for all the finals, and all the top players together in one place.
ReplyDeleteI played Oleg in the early Fall in Ultimate Tennis (as shown above by a previous poster) and he has the talent and the strokes, but is just getting back into the swing of things. If he keeps playing often like he has, he will do well in the Spring league.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, LTF 3.5 has never choked, in fact they are rarely pumped on the blog! LTF 3.5 does have a real good team this season, but others will be strong as well such as Brookhaven, Greenhill, Garland (unknown), and Westlake. Anything can happen during the season.
ReplyDeleteF.Y.I ANYONE WANT TO WORK ON YOUR DOUBLES GAME? FORT BATTAD AND THE PROS AT GTC PUT ON A NICE DRILL FROM 10:30 UNTIL 12:00 ON SATURDAY MORNING AND THEN WE ALL SPLIT OFF AND PLAY DOUBLES OR SINGLES MATCHES. IT IS A GREAT WORK OUT AND GOOD INSTRUCTION BESIDES JUST PLAYING AND IMPROVING YOUR BAD HABITS. IT IS ALSO ONLY $12.00 BUCKS! PLUS IT WOULD BE COOL TO SEE MORE DECENT PLAYERS SHOW UP TO HELP EACH OTHERS GAME IMPROVE. ANYONE INTERESTED?
ReplyDeleteIn 3.5 level lifetime has choked in the past if you check past performances against Oak Ridge. 2 tiebreak losses in the deciding match. Also other matches lost on tiebreaks in the City Playoffs. Just because a team is from a nice place like Lifetime does not make them unbeatable.Only time will tell if it happen again. Mark Ferrell knows what its like to lose close matches!!!!
ReplyDeleteI know this is a little early to say this,
ReplyDeleteBut, Lifetime Sucks,
I think Eddie fucked up his shoulder by patting himself on the back too much,
Also,
Did I mention that they are gay and take team showers together in their fancy locker rooms.
"Kaiser talks all the time and whines like a little girl.
ReplyDeleteBut he does have an excellent 3.5 team put together for the spring season. Maybe the best team in town."
- I could not disagree with you more. He whines like a little boy. - BUT, I agree, they maybe the best team in town this year.
Anon,
ReplyDeleteYou must have been beaten by Kaiser! He does have the best team in the city, trophies will be sent before April 18th. Wish all levels and players well!
Sisk
Whine?? When have I whined on this bog?? The only "wine" I prefer is a deep full body California Cab.
ReplyDeleteI have only stated facts or offered my humbled opinion --but never "whined" about anything.
Sisk is right --way too early in the season to be talking results. Anything can happen throughout a season. I do have some talent on my team, and I have other guys who are working hard to improve their tallent. But to be talking that you will be taking Sectionals, City, or much less even your flight is preposterous at this point.
The beauty of the game and having a full season is that people can improve. The current LTF team is mainly comprised of my core guys playing 3.0 just 2 years ago. This is not the LTF team of Ferrell's. There are only 2 players from that roster...the rest were bumped to 4.0. We aren't a bunch of self-rated ringers and don't claim to be anything special. We are just like anyone else out there...some guys who like to play some competive tennis inbetween the other facets of life.
kaiser
i feel for the guys who travel to the Major zones and lose early. im sticking to the local tourneys in which i can drink beer on my couch an hour after losing.
ReplyDeleteWhat ……? LTF 3.5 has never choked? One only needs to do a little research. LTF 3.5 choked this past fall against Brookhaven. LTF should have won 4 – 1, instead Brookhaven won 3 – 2. The two matches that LTF completely choked were the #1 doubles and #3 doubles matches.
ReplyDeleteIn the #1 doubles match it was Bill Kaiser & Mark Ferrell from LFT against Glenn Strohl & Mark Cline from Brookhaven. Brookhaven won 6 – 2, 7 – 5. LFT completely choked! In particular, Mark Ferrell completely fell apart or mentally didn’t show up for the match.
In the #3 doubles match it was Kim Anderson & David Megert from LFT against Tim Montgomery & Michael Kirk from Brookhaven. Brookhaven won 7 – 5, 6 – 4. LFT should have won the match. Again, LFT completely choked!
Fair enough John....however, I don't know if I would call it a pure choke. With all due respect, you have some solid players on your team and they flat out beat us that day. I look forward to a re-match in the Spring !!!
ReplyDeletekaiser
Kaiser: "I dont know if a would call it a PURE CHOKE".
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is a "pure choke". John K. 100% is right, LTF choked big time. And yes, Kaiser is a whiner as someone else noted.
Nice to see Getz get beat in San Antonio by a average player! Getz won the first set and was ahead in the 2nd set but choked his way to a third set tiebreak loss. Getz made one bad call in the tiebreak but it didnt help him.
ReplyDeleteIt may not be a "pure choke" but Kaiser is a pure joke
ReplyDeleteWow! I have to give credit to Kraemer for posting his name on that post. You are calling out guys for choking? That's pretty ballsy. Is there some vendetta between Kraemer and Lifetime that I don't know about. I can't imagine ever saying that about somebody unless I had bad feelings toward them.
ReplyDeleteAlso, by saying somebody choked you are implying that the better team lost. So Lifetime was better than Brookhaven in that match?
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know results from San Antonio yet?
ReplyDeleteI want to take any anons up for a singles match at 4.0 I don't need to know your name win or lose I need to improve my game if you don't like me now is your chance! Put up or shut up!
ReplyDeleteWhere have you been Snotty? We had a missing report out on you since your no show in Abilene.
ReplyDeleteSA
ReplyDelete4.5 - Its the 1 seed Scott Sevin against the 7 seed Wayne Morgan. Ben Hawkins was the only real Dalasite in the draw and was #2 seed. He lost in the quarters to Morgan.
4.0 - Stephen Terrel of Dallas is in 1 semi playing 1 seed James Murray. Other semi is 2 seed Tuyen Nguyen against unseeded Shane Broussard. Broussard beat Tim Newman in the quarters.
3.5 - umm, who cares.
SNOTjock,
ReplyDeleteu just dont get it. No 1 wants to play u because u r obnoxious. If u werent such an ass more guys would play with u.
Kraemer; Why in the world would you bring that match up and call out LTF for choking? We were not the odds on favorite, in fact, Brookhaven was. Big deal, Ferrell had a bad day and the Anderson match could have gone either way. Play that match again and the results may be different, maybe not, that's the way 3.5 tennis goes. Clearly no dominant team that day, just good close tennis.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the only one that "choked" was yourself, when you had your head up Jane Gilpins ass whining about Cline and trying to get the DQ overturned so that the top rated Brookhaven team for the season would make the playoffs. Otherwise, an underdog LTF team would have made it and you'd still be whining about it.
Thanks for the post though, we now have something to look forward to when we play you guys again. We'll give you a little extra something to choke on besides Gilpins ass hairs.
Oh and one other thing. By your 4-1 assumption, you are basically saying that the one gimme for Brookhaven was the Little Muffin vs. Kuhn match at 2 singles. Of all the matches, that's probably the one LTF should've won. Shawn had a bad day and was up on Kuhn most of the match anyhow. Set up a re-match and Little Muffin will kick Kuhn's ass. I'll take your money if you'd like a little wager.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with John K on this one. LTF had the better team but played poorly and lost. Yes, choked.
ReplyDeleteAnd I dont care for either one of the Gilpins.
The Gilpins arent bad people but they are very arrogant. And they have been running our leagues for too long. They resist any type of positive change and like to keep their processes secret.
ReplyDeleteAgree. I would like Jane Gipin to publish her process for putting teams into flights. We always seem to have the top 2 or 3 teams together in a single flight. Dont know if its just poor seeding or intentional.
ReplyDeleteBrookhaven was the top dog in that flight. LTF was fighting to get into the playoffs!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind if they keep the flights secret. If u dint everyone would put their 2 cents in, and not everyone would see things the same way. it is what it is. I still want 3 sets though.
I take responsibility for Chris Jones playing 3.5. He has never played at a level higher then 4.0. True, when he was 18 he played 4.0 and ended up ranked top 10. That was 14-15 years ago. He quit. He never played again. Got married. Had kids. His partner moved away. The guy had to decline. I told him 3.5 is where he should start. How the hell did I know he was going to beat up on these guys so easy? Maybe 3.5 has dropped? I dont know. I have never played 3.5 so I just assumed he was 3.5. I figured he had no chance at being .500 in 4.0 so I said go 3.5. Get into shape. Move up after a year. Now, he has taken 2nd at Abilene and 1st in SA this weekend. Obviously he may need to move up but at this point I say play Houston. Win Houston then you have to move up. That is the real test. Abilene means nothing. I can think of 20 local 100pt tournaments that are tougher then Abilene. Its a joke of a Major. Corpus is right next to it. No one truely wants to waste there time or money there. I also think that this economy has less people traveling so maybe the Majors right now are way weaker then normal. Who knows. So blame me for pointing Jones to 3.5. I give him hell about it too now. Its funny. Congrats to Jones. I think that is the first tournament that counts toward a ranking he has ever won in his life. Jones, correct me if I am wrong on that. Why dont we all just play OPEN and see where the chips fall? Have a good one gents.
ReplyDeleteTo the anonynous idiot from 2/21 that posted at 2:33 pm
ReplyDeleteYou may not like Getz but you are an idiot if you think Chris Jones is "average". He won the whole tournament at San Antonio and Getz is the only player to have even taken a set off of him. He also got to the finals in Abeline and would have probably beaten Molina if he had not injured his foot in a prior match.
Mike,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your input.
3.5 had a very weak field in S.A. this year. Jones is a decent player but not nearly as good as Molina. Zack from our team could also kick Jones' ass any day of the week.
But Jones did win the thing and that's an accomplishment even with a very weak field.
Hmmmmm
ReplyDeleteAm I dreaming or did Jones beat Zack in Abeline? (And my name is Mark, not Mike)
Lets not let the facts screw up a good story
ReplyDeleteJesus this 3.5 talk is putting his blog to sleep guys - no one cares.
ReplyDeleteIf that ringer beat Zack then he is way to good to be playing 3.5
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean "if"?
ReplyDeleteIt's a fact. Quarterfinals, Chris Jone over Zack Stein, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1
Jones had alread beaten Van Gompel and then beat Pedro Montalvo the next round before losing to Molina in the finals. But some dumb ass thinks he is just an "average 3.5"
Whose team is he on?
There WAS a weak field this year in the S.A MZ. Hopefully it will be better in Houston. Jones is a decent player.
ReplyDeleteKraemer, are you kidding me? Nice way to bag on your own team. Your team wins it all for the Fall and we should have swept you 5-0?? Or 4-1?? Way to like your team. You want to know who choked? Your team did losing to LB Houston who was 3-4 at the time in the final match of the season. You would not have had to even whine and cry about Cline if you would not have choked against LB Houston!! I hope we do get a chance to play BH this season altough it looks as though you have left as coach! Probably good idea as we can all see the wonderful comments you have about them and the confidence you have in a team that won the Fall season!
ReplyDeleteYes, Kraemer has no idea what he is talking about, when he uses the words Kaiser and choke in the same sentence!! Don't you have to be favored to choke, and we know Kaiser has never been favored in 3.5!
ReplyDeleteTourney info is VERY important if you plan on acquiring a ranking. For REC players who play league only tennis, you're right...it doesn't matter. But the USTA takes Tournaments into account for your rating. Some of you REC players need to branch out and realize, it's not all about league and sectionals. There's more glory in tournaments...more matches...more mental/physical toughness.
ReplyDeleteEven if you've taken time off, I believe that you're instructed to play at that same level that you previously played. It's particularly the case if you're still fairly young, if the time hasn't been very long, or if you don't have a significant injury.
ReplyDeleteThe reason for that is shown in Chris Jones' case, although I think the larger concern is that you'll eventually regain form as you prepare for the league season and play throughout it.
Wow! Nice job "capt. Kraemer", I am sure Strohl and Cline as well as Montgomery and Kirk really appreciate you telling the Dallas 3.5 players how much they "suck". You really know how to build confidence in your players!
ReplyDeleteWho is your coaching hero Bobby Knight? You sound like a real ass hole! Isnt there something that happened in the 1999 cities that you want to drum up now that might make you look good???
Your a DICK! I bet your old team is glad you finally left them so they can have some fun playing tennis without being called "upset winners" by beating another pretty good team!
Won't HP put together a strong team? They still have Jameson, Watanabe, Atlas, Wiley, Myers and Parekh. They were pretty close to getting to Nationals last year and much of their team is still in tact.
ReplyDeleteHey John K.
ReplyDeleteYou comments about LTF 3.5 were right on. It's nice to hear them whine!
Someone should just test Jones for Steroids. That is the problem. No testing. Clearly that guy is on roids. I mean, he wins some 3.5 matches and people start crying. Its the same every year. The people that cry never get better. They want a socialist type rating system. Hell, I want a real ranking system. This one is stupid. The old days people actually looked at results and that had some impact. Now its just PTS. Thats fine for the pros but when PTS cost you money to obtain who really shows up? Not everyone. So the rankings are not the real deal. Tournaments are fun though. I wish there were hotter female players to watch. Its a sad state at the moment.
ReplyDeleteThe only one that whines is your mother, actually I'm mistaken, it sounds more like a squeal.
ReplyDeleteIf a team chokes, does that really mean that the team was favored? Or maybe the team just didn’t play to their potential.
ReplyDeleteChris Jones is a good player at 3.5. With a year under his belt he will be a good 4.0 player. Contrats to Chris for a good start to the year. These two wins pretty much gets him to the final 8 in 3.5 at the Best of the Best Final 8.
ReplyDeleteNice kraemer is trying to back pedal. When you state Ltf should have won 4-1 and lost 3-2, you are implying they were the better team and rather than winning like they should have, they lost. You are completely classless and are an idiot for stating your last comment
ReplyDeleteKraemer; Since it seems you are willing to reply, then can we have your basis for thinking LTF choked? If anything, I think Brookhaven had the better team on paper and should have won easier than 3-2. And to answer your stupid ass question, yes, if a team chokes, then the implication is that it was a better team and obviously favored. Or what other reasoning do you have?
ReplyDeleteWhen the matches were that close and one team completely choked to barely lose, I would say that means they were expected to win. I really am still in shock somebody would call out another team like that. There has to be some bad blood between the two teams I'm not aware of.
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing, there is no bad blood. All very nice guys on the Brookhaven team and nobody on LTF has any issues what-so-ever, which is why we were very surprised at Kraemer's comments.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Kraemer is simply a dick and feels he has the right to speak for his entire team. I do give him credit - at least he signed his name
ReplyDeleteBROOKHAVEN RULES. ltf sux.
ReplyDeleteSomeone mentioned that one had to be favored in order to choke. This isn’t necessary true, one or a team that is an underdog that fails to play to their full potential could be viewed as choking.
ReplyDeleteI’m not back pedaling on anything. Someone stated that LTF (3.5) never chokes. LTF has choked in the past and will choke again in the future.
LTF choked against Brookhaven this past fall. Pure choke……? It was a choke! The match between LTF and Brookhaven was a huge match. It was the biggest match within the division at the time. Both teams knew it was a must win. On paper LTF had an edge, even though the match was being played at Brookhaven.
Back to SATA Major Zone, looks like for the most part the seeds got picked apart.
ReplyDeleteAny comments on the teams that took out these unseeded players? Should we expect to see a new crop of players joining league teams?
In 4.0, anyone know anything about Shane Broussard? Wins include (Tim Newman, Foad Ansari)
Bill Hicks/ Miguel A. Rivas won the whole thing against another unseeded team Broussard (again)/ Hung Nguyen. Seeds these 2 knocked out (#3 Newman/Kingsly, #2 Wood/Zepeda, #4 Bumgarner/Rojas).
Hey, you can't call a guy an asshole when he at LEAST has the balls to put out a major statement with his name behind it.
ReplyDeleteI applaud it. I think he is totally wrong though. I think 3.5 LTF kicks the crap out of 3.5 Brookhaven this season.
Start a thread called "Sand Bagging Trash Talk". That way you know where to go to see and talk trash. Leave the real tennis chat to the other threads. We should start a DFW Ranking based on Votes and not points. See where guys end up amongst what their peers think. Might be fun. Let Corey pull all the votes togethor. Everyone send in a top 5 votes on 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, and Open depending on what you play and know.
ReplyDeleteIf a draft was held who would the #1 pick be at each level?
ReplyDeleteI don't care about the best players. I want to know the players that will drink the most beer.......cause I'm joining that team. 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 doesn't matter!!!
ReplyDeleteJohn Kramer is right! We are behind you John, way way behind you. It took some guts to stick your neck out with these bunch of anonymous bastards. We can all learn from John who signs his name behind his statements.
ReplyDeleteMy first Draft pick at 3.5 is Chris Jones.
ReplyDeleteMy #1 at 3.5 is Marc Klamaki
ReplyDeleteRumor is that Klamecki and Jones have both committed to Oak Creek.
ReplyDeleteThey played doubles together in the Fake Tri-Level and slaughtered High Point 3.5
Got to love guys like anon 5:44 who praise kraemer for posting his name, calls anons bastards, and then does not sign his name. Welcome to the anon club you hypocrite!
ReplyDeleteanons are the heart and soul of the blog site. god bless em!
ReplyDeleteKlamacki and partner were eliminated quickly in the USTA event held at Brookhaven a few weeks ago. Number 1 pick???
ReplyDeleteI would take a pure singles player in my first round. While, I think there are several doubles players that are better at doubles than any singles players are at singles, singles players are far harder to find. With that said, I take Steven Kent because he can beat Nadalo and Federer while he takes only the singles lines and he gives them the doubles alley.
ReplyDeleteAll I know is that is going to be one HELLUVA a match at Brookhaven v LTF 3.5
ReplyDeleteto anon: February 25, 2009 8:20 AM
that was very witty. pat urself on the back for that one - u sucked me right in.
Does Steven Kent get a second serve, if he does, it just will nto be fair to Nadal and Federer.
ReplyDeleteAll Hail Steven Kent
ReplyDeleteFinally STEVE KENT gets the respect STEVE KENT deserves. Of course STEVE KENT would be the #1 draft pick at any level.
ReplyDeleteNot at 3.5, that belongs to Bill Kaiser!!
ReplyDeleteAnons have rights too.
ReplyDeleteHiel Steven Kent
ReplyDeleteSteven Kent says anons have no rights. Steven Kent is the authority.
ReplyDeleteZZZZ over played now
ReplyDeleteI would take Chad Carlquists forehand at #1,
ReplyDeleteNot him per say, just his forehand,
His right arm can beat most 4.0 players.
It's actually his left arm. As a Chad fan you should have known that.
ReplyDeleteChad does have a big forehand, I've seen a couple in 4.0 that are stronger.
ReplyDeleteBut his serve, especially when he kicks it outside with that left handed twist is the killer. I've experienced it first hand and it wasn't a pleasant experience.
