After hours and hours of waiting the draws are finally out for Abilene. Yes the field is watered down because of the Brookhaven tournament and because it's early February in Abilene but this is still a major zone that is worth the same as the Houston Major. All three of those points should be changed by the way but let's talk about the draws.
4.5 Singles--A lot of top players in the draw and many of them are playing each other early. Sevin will have his hands full with the winner between Moser and Urbiola but the winner of that should be the favorite in the final. If JD is back in top form he will have a good shot to make the final.
4.5 Doubles--Interesting that Rosenquist and Cherry are playing with different partners in their hometown tournament. Rosenquist and Leija should make a dominant team even though I don't believe they've ever played together.
4.0 Singles--I like Tuyen vs. Foad in the top semifinal and I'll take Carter vs. Stanfield in the other semi. I'm not as knowledgeable on 4.0 since there are so many new names so I would expect there are some sleepers in there.
4.0 Doubles--A lot of intriguing pairings in the doubles with Newman/Robinson topping the seeds. I would expect them to do well and at least make it to the semis. Watch out for Sanders and Stanfield to make noise.
3.5 Singles--The infamous Getz makes an appearance in the draw but Zack Stein could give him a challenge. Bottom half looks much tougher than the top. I look for a Pedro/Stein semifinal in the bottom and Molina to roll through to the final.
3.5 Doubles--I'm not even going to try. Somebody else feel free to fill me in.
These are the most applicable draws to the blog I think but anybody should post analysis of any others that you want to talk about. Can you believe it will actually be in the 70s too? I'll believe it when I see it.
See you in Abilene.
In the 3.5 draw, you gotta remember Von Gompel and Montalvo are solid players in the bottom half and in the top half Flores can play well. Moore with his game may knock off a few also. Who is the dark horse in this tournament?
ReplyDeleteLet's talk about Open, 5.0 and 4.5. As usual the draws are pretty small for this tournament. It could sure be larger if all the big mouths from Dallas who post on this blog would play. If they are really that good they should have signed up to play Abilene instead of Brookhaven. Looks like way too much talk and no action.
ReplyDeleteAbilene is generally for those that know they have no prayer at a legit MZ.
ReplyDeleteThat must me you are playing in it. What level?
ReplyDeleteThat must mean you are playing in it. What level?
ReplyDeleteAbilene is for guys who want to earn meaningless points. Drive all the way to abilene for a small draw?? That sounds smart! You only do it to earn inflated points... You win one match, earn all these points and think that it means something.
ReplyDelete"Abilene is for guys who want to earn meaningless points. Drive all the way to Abilene for a small draw?? That sounds smart! You only do it to earn inflated points... You win one match, earn all these points and think that it means something".
ReplyDeleteSorry but you sound like a HATER. Abilene is closer to Dallas/Fort Worth then San Antonio, Houston, etc. and you see players from these cities signed up to play this tournament every year. I bet most if not al the players who sign up to play do it for the competition and of course for the points. Hell yeah, if you win that's 400 pts. Everyone who plays tournaments knows about this one, it's no secret, therefore I don't understand why all the BIG MOUTHS from Dallas that post in this blog don't play. They should, it would sure make it more fun. Too bad it's too late now but maybe next year everyone can carpool and share hotel rooms. LOL.
Abilene is too far for me to drive with my schedule. Also, I fear it can be Zero degrees in February there. Why can't Dallas get a MZ?
ReplyDeleteBrookhaven looks more intriguing than Abilene.
ReplyDeleteOnly dallas/fort worth people have signed up to play Brookhaven. Abilene has players from all over, yes the draw is small but it's not the players fault. We'll just have to see who takes it all in both tourneys. Good luck to all the players.
ReplyDeleteNot all the draws are small. Abilene is the smallest Major Zone but if you look at the 4.0 level it is still larger than any Dallas tournament at that level except maybe the Cotton Bowl.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping that Zack Stein kills Mike Getz in level 3.5. Zack _ be ready for some bad line calls on critical points. Dont hesitate to call for the referee.
ReplyDeleteTALK TALK TALK AND NO ACTION!!!! If you all in the big town of Dallas are so AWESOME where in the hell are ya? You could make the draw so much bigger and MUCH more competative. OH by the way where is your National title????? Oh yeah you got beat by San Angelo. We do agree in one area...Mike Getz is a sore loser...but he is fair in his calls. Stop acting like a bunch of little girls and man up!!
ReplyDelete7:19 ANON -> was Getz posting about himself. What an ass!
ReplyDeleteZack watch his line calls!
Uh..when I looked about half of the players in the Abilene tournament were from DFW. I fully blame the USTA and the tournament director for scheduling these two tournaments on the same weekend. It costs everybody money. I play Abilene about every other year and it is nice to not have to start on Friday at 8 a.m. like almost every other major. This should also be the best weather I've ever seen in that tourney so I expect some good tennis.
ReplyDeleteHowever, with all those Dallas people playing, that just emphasizes more why this tournament should be in Dallas, or one of the THREE major zones in San Antonio could be moved here.
Anybody know anything about Jeremy Smith in the 4.5 draw? No USTA history that I found. If he's playing dubs with Adam I'm sure he's solid.
ReplyDeleteJeremy Smith earned a ranking of 82 in 2008 4.0s.
ReplyDeleteFYI---Trance Rosenquist and Ed Leija won the East Texas Open last year.
That's a good point Corey. If the Texas Section moved the Abilene AMZ to Dallas, participation would be greater and everyone would be better off. I think this is just a political decision _ which is not good for players.
ReplyDeleteMy opinions on 3.5 draw-Darkhorse players Ken Newman-lefty big serve may win a couple of rounds, conditoning a question mark!! Scott Canann back to 3.5 had always been in top 10 with a very solid consistent game a semi-final threat.Zack Stein if playing well possible Winner of tournament. Larry Reitzer is finally getting his game back and a threat at least to make semis. If Enrique Molina plays his best will at least make semis and possibly Win. Good Luck to all my Oak Ridge players at the tournament.Quite a few players unknown at this time so who knows???
ReplyDeleteWhy should the Texas Section make such changes? If there are so many so called Dallas players who want to compete that badly, then they need to drive their a-holes to where ever the MZ's take place. If other playes are willing to do it, don't see why they can't. There is a MZ in Fort Worth. They should all play that one without excuses. The truth is that Dallas has way too many BIG HEADS who think they are all that and more and are not even half as good as they think. They don't play real tournaments against people from other cities because they are scared to get their a-holes beat. Most all stick to local tournaments so that they can play the same players they play in league. They play each other so much they should know everyone’s game by heart by now. Another thing, Dallas does have more tennis than Fort Worth but if you notice you have more Fort Worth players willing to drive to Dallas to play on Dallas teams. These players do very well. On the other hand, you hardly see Dallas coming to Fort Worth and look how close it is. I say Chickens.
ReplyDeleteTurpitude, your right. Looked it up and Trance Rosenquist and Ed Leija beat Phy Pham and Hai Nguyen from Dallas in the finals at the East Texas Open MZ last year. Also noticed that Ed played on Rosenquist Abilene team. They played a match together at Dallas sectionals and won. These two should make a pretty solid team.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Dallas player. I've played Abilene (once- first and last time I do that). The only reason to go to Abilene from Dallas is to try to get a ranking. A ranking, that if you are honest with yourself, means absolutly nothing. The best players at any level are playing league not tournaments. Dallas players not driving out to Abilene aren't a**holes or chicken or anything else bad you want to say. Just smart.
ReplyDeleteAbilene
-wind
-cold
-outdoors
-3 hour drive
-must sleep on lumpy bed at the Whitten Inn
-bad food
-must spend weekend in armpit called Abilene
-small draw
-let me mention lumpy bed again at Whitten Inn if you make it to finals
-crappy weather (must wear two sets of warm up pants because wind chill is below 20 degrees
-hospital bill in Abilene when injury is caused when taking off one pair of warm-up pants during a very frigid change over
-one broken racket when racket hits fence post because I can't play in 30 mile an hour wind gusts
-$250 speeding ticket because I drive too fast when trying to leave Abilene because every extra minute in Abilene is an extra minute in the smelly armpit called Abilene
-$750 for other hospital bill for getting rid of burning sensation caused by picking up "my new friend" outside of the Whitten Inn
Brookhaven
-sleep in own comfy bed
-play indoors
-no wind
-climate controlled tennis
-15 minute drive
-"hot" Brookhaven women
-better restaurants
-better competition
-better bars
-hotter women in Dallas than Abilene
-water provided between courts
-modern conveniences like running water and electricity not usually found in Abilene
-less of a farm animal smell than Abilene
To the anon that says that us Dallas people fear the Abilene tournament. I say you are a fool. I've weighed the options- see above. I'm playing Brookhaven.
Good for you Anon. Now, get over it.
ReplyDeleteOn the whole (hole?) Abilene is really not much worse than Tyler.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Fort Worth not have a league blog site of their own?
ReplyDelete1) They all too dumb to figure one out
2) No one gives a crap about FTW
True anyone can post on any blog. But only an obnoxious mental case would WANT to post on an out-of-town website. It is really pathetic for a guy living in FTW to post trash on the Dallas league blog. The guy's a real sicko . . .
ReplyDeleteAnon, with the weighed options, you came up with some good excuses. Yes, why drive to Abilene or Tyler if you can't get past the first round or have never won a tournament, major waste of money for you, I understand why you got tired of it. The truth is a good player will play in any weather. You should talk to the Brookhaven director and see about them moving the indoor tournament for a different weekend and up the points to at least 200. I bet it would attract all the players who travel to compete. These players do it because unlike others they like competing against everyone out there and it’s not a waste of money for them because they usually take the tournaments.
ReplyDeleteThis is like Dallas/Fort Worth Blog. You see players from Fort Worth post on here all the time. I have noticed some of them are real kiss asses. They will do anything to get talked good about.
ReplyDeleteThe guy is bummed that the Abilene tournament sucks and always will!! We have lives that don't revolve strictly around tennis you loser!! Have fun, driving 3 hours to play 3 matches (that is what the finalist will play)!! I'll Play Brookhaven on indoor courts with quality competition. Don't hate, just rack up those meaningless points you'll earn, that is if you win a match off course!! Then you can say I am 50th in the state because you won a single match at the Abilene tournament! You suck, and your lucky some of us players do't come over to the Abilene MZ because you would be one and done!!
ReplyDeleteThere is a reason FW players come to Dallas to play, because that is where the competition is. Dallas players do need to go to FW to play you hacks out there! We have all the players we need here and you know it, that is why you play in Dallas and wish all us Dallas players were at the MZ this weekend!
ReplyDeleteNah, there is just more players in Dallas. I agree the competition is good but it's only because Fort Worth don't have enough players to compete against. Those that dominate in Fort Worth hang and win easily in Dallas. Dallas players should make teams in Fort Worth that way Fort Worth tennis can grow. Good Idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat diffence does it make where
ReplyDeleteyou play. Abilene, Broohaven or
anywhere else as long as you play.
Some people like to get out of town
and some don't. Arguing which place is best is ridiculous.
I don't play in Fort Worth because it's to close to Abilene.
ReplyDeleteThis thread has certainly taken a turn for the worse. I don't understand the point that Dallas players aren't willing to drive. Every major zone is filled with players from the Dallas area. In fact, I see very few players from San Antonio/Houston area in Abilene tournament. The point is, why is San Antonio allowed to have 3 major zones and Dallas has none?
ReplyDeleteYeah, it wouldn't hurt to have one MZ in Dallas because right now the only tournament worth playing there is the 200 pt Cotton Bowl. This tournament is a good one and MORE DALLAS players should sign up to play especially since it’s in Dallas. It's ridiculous to see all the trash talk comments some Dallas players post here especially when it comes to out of town tournaments, that the tournaments sucks, no one good is in draws, blah, blah, blah. The same can be said about the local tournaments, no one good is playing, the draws are small, etc. In reality who are they to judge, have they ever played the players that play MZ’s? Most likely NOT because they don’t travel to play, they don’t even play the Fort Worth MZ and it’s right there. I’m sure most of the players that play MZ’s also play some local tournaments and win. The same can’t be said about most of these clowns that don’t travel to compete and only play in Dallas. They probably don't even win their own local tournaments. Pathetic. Stop trash talking other players if you have never played them before. Get out and play them first. These players have to be good. I doubt they spend money to travel, entry fees, etc for nothing. There you go.
ReplyDeleteI don't play tournaments because I'm a one match a week wonder.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Corey. It makes no sense whatsoever to have THREE adult major zones in San Antonio and none in Dallas. That's just ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a Dallas/Fort Worth blog site. We discuss Dallas leagues and events. Very few of our guys know much about FTW leagues and we simply do not care.
ReplyDeleteSure anyone can blog on any site. But it is pretty obnoxious for someone from out of town to talk smack on our blog. Those pricks should be dealing with the tennis activities in their own towns.
Out-of-towners --> get a life!
People who get upset about anything printed on this blog -> grow up
ReplyDeleteYou guys crack me up. Oops sorry back to my side of the metroplex.

ReplyDeleteFor the Getz hater
ReplyDeleteStein should win easily. He is really a 4.0 player that is sandbagging as a 3.5 player. Stein was 9-11 playing 4.0 in 2008 and kicked ass in the Cotton Bowl at 3.5 He bageled Reitzer in the second set and double bageled Bill Moore. If he does not win this tournament at 3.5 EASILY he should be embarassed

ReplyDeleteKern - what kept you from making Abilene this year?
ReplyDeleteAs Coredawg has so aptly noted in the past, this blog is not limited to posters from the Dallas tennis community. If it were, then there would be maybe 20-30 people posting. It is a fact that people from around the state and right next door in Fort Worth know people that play tennis in Dallas and they follow their exploits in league and tourney play, in part, through this site. Sometimes it is because they are friends and they want to cheer them on, other times it is because they are a hater and want to see them fail. But at any rate,it is juvenile to claim this as "Our" site. The internet and blogs are out there, free and open to all so find something else to bitch about.
ReplyDeleteFort Worthians are very welcome here, might be up for name change to the D/FW blog?
ReplyDeleteI do agree with the comparison to Abilene tourney, although getting out of town is fun and Abilene is a cheap town to get away to but not much to do. McMurry chicks are easy though, so stay away from those "other ladies"
I agree. I don't think this blog has ever been for Dallas players only. If it were, we wouldn't discuss major zones or anything outside of Dallas. The focus is on players who play in Dallas. Jason seems like a great guy and doesn't deserve this treatment.
ReplyDeleteInstead, let's hear some predictions for winners in Abilene.
Stein should win 3.5 easily. He is the biggest sandbagger in 3.5.
ReplyDeleteAbilene runs a decent tournament. But, it is the first major zone and it is a good one to get back into the swing of traveling and playing again. If your playing Abilene then most likely you will see some of the same names on the other majors and last I checked we are all playing for points so I don't understand the logic of easy points. Abilene is not easy! 8 am start times in the cold and wind I do not consider easy. I always run into good solid competition in the past 2 years I have played. But, it would be nice to have this one in Dallas since we can handle bad conditions. Abilene has 4 indoor courts at ACU and I doubt the tournament can use them. Good luck at Abilene and Brookhaven.
ReplyDeleteStein has a good forehand and everything else is average 3.5.
ReplyDeleteHardly a sandbagger.
Come on Corey - you have the time - build one of those virtual draws like they posted for the Cotton Bowl - then I will show you the winners
ReplyDeleteCorey,
ReplyDeleteKern is a two-faced. He will talk great things about you, turn your back and he will dog your game like he knows everything. He will kiss his way in to a good team and talk about himself that his not good, he's the weakest one on the team, his partner carried him but only does it to get people to talk good things about him. The guy has never won a tournament in 4.5 singles. Enough time wasted.
c/s I would like to see our Dallas people take Abilene. Corey, I think you have a shot at winning 4.5 doubles, the draw looks weak. Go Dallas!
4.5 Doubles? Maybe but um, Ed Leija is solid and his partner isn't exactly a slouch. I think the team from the top that makes the finals does win it.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I haven't won a 4.5 singles tournament is simply because I'm not good enough and my partners carry me. Please be nice to me now.
ReplyDelete4.5 I would be very surprised if Ed and Trance don't run away with Abilene. In singles I agree that the winner of Sevin and Moser will be the favorite to win.
4.0 doubles look like a pretty good draw with the top quarter between Newman/Robinson and Fincher/Newman being a good match. On the bottom half a semi with Wood/Zepeda and Sanders/Stanfield would be good as well but Sanders/Stanfield have a couple of good teams they will have to get past before then. I'll go with a Fincher/Newman vs. Wood/Zepeda final. However, I think this is the most competitive of the four draws.
4.0 singles should be interesting as well. I'll go with Tuyen and Blackwell in the top semi. In the bottom semi, give me Singh vs. Carter.
To the person who was wondering why I will not be in Abilene. I'll be out of pocket on Friday so I didn't think I could play in either Brookhaven or Abilene. I'm also losing the Major Zone urge. Good luck to everyone and keep bashing.
Kern someone really busted your ego. Can’t believe people don’t know you are 5.0 level all the way. haha. Sorry that was a bad joke. Good predictions though. MZ tournaments are becoming way too expensive. All tournaments have gone up and on top of that now make you pay the online $3 fee, that adds up. Gas is going up again. Hotels are not cheap. I wouldn’t be surprise to see less people traveling to play MZ. Kern, don’t stop playing though, you and that Ed Leija play well together, your games complement each other well. You should play some more tourneys with him this year, maybe not all but some. Good luck to all our Dallas/ Fort Worth people playing in Abilene and yes keep bashing, it's fun to read. LOL.
ReplyDelete6:49 a.m.
ReplyDeleteBullsh*t. Anyone that wins half their matches playing at 4.0 should not be going back down to 3.5. Sounds to me that Stien just does not want to man up to playing at the correct level for him - he must enjoy beating up on 3.5 players. Like that is some kind of big challenge. Grow a pair and play at the right level.
"Stein should win 3.5 easily. He is the biggest sandbagger in 3.5."
ReplyDeleteActually, there are several worthy to mention
Shahab
Wiley
Bennett
Demetsenaere
Corey, where did you say the good place to eat was in Abilene? Saturday night? about what time?
ReplyDeleteOn a footnote: I realize that Pedro Ruiz is not a 5.5 player, because it shows he played on a 4.5 team, but WHY would all of his matches show recorded at playing at a 5.5 level? Scared the shit out of me for a minute.
Stein played up on his own for a year, I think that takes him right off the list.
ReplyDeleteDemanstrae and Bennett to products of the system, and bumped down without so much as even pushing the appeal button...
Wiley is borderline, and should anchor a 3.5 team.
Never heard of Shebab
Both Bennett and Demestaere are at least playing 4.0 tennis in addition to 3.5. They got bumped down, why? No one knows, but they didn't appeal. That is not sand bagging.
ReplyDeleteThree of Steins 4.0 wins were no shows. That is 6 and 11.
ReplyDeleteI would not call myself a sandbagger. I am hurt more often than healthy. My permenant injuries include... a bad shoulder, knees, back and a repaired achilles tendon. Barring some medical miracle, I will never be healthy again and currently I am about as good as I can be.
ReplyDeleteBMO, I think they are talking about Alex Shahab, better known as ( - y - ).
I think Demets, Bennett and Wiley are probably the three best computer rated players in 3.5. All three probably should be moved up but none of the three are sickening for 3.5. I don't think any of them anre sandbaggers.
ReplyDeleteI have a lot better chance of winning the singles than the doubles. Leija and Rosenquist are ranked 1 and 8 respectively and my partner and I are playing our first tournament.
ReplyDeleteIf I knew how to make the virtual draws I would but I don't. That's Klamecki's territory. Just tell me your semifinalists in the major divisions.
Kern has maybe played 10 tournaments so I don't think you can rag on him for not winning one at 4.5. After all, I've played about 30. I understand your point Jason, I lost my urge for majors a couple of years ago but I think I have it back for this year. It just becomes hard to justify the lost income to travel to these tournaments, all for ranking points. As my friend John says, I don't have to travel to lose.
Joe Allen's Steakhouse. I don't know when we are going. My partner is driving so he sets the schedule. I guarantee we will be there on Friday and/or Saturday night. We should get to Abilene about 8 p.m. Friday.
Good luck to all the Dallasites!!!
ohhhhh!!! Alex!!! I know Alex! I just saw him yesterday. dint know/realize his last name.
ReplyDeleteYou have to love that pic! Outstanding choice!!!! I thought that was Nguyen that was that post though?
COREY, READ. what is the name of that food place u were talking about? It is almost bed time for someone that has to drive out at 445 am...
ooops. sorry, I dint read the bottom of YOUR post!! doh! Joe Allens
ReplyDeleteI am not sure if I will still be there Sat night. So Friday night might be good.
214.893.8953
Brian, you post like a school girl in love with Alex. "Oooh Alex Oooh Alex. you are so dreamy on Teen Beat." Just kidding, good luck in Abilene.
ReplyDeleteAlex is probably a little (okay real) strong for 3.5.
For Mr. Anon up above, I am not worthy of a top 4 mention. I am a twinkieaholic with a 40 yard dash timed by either calendar or sundial and an even slower serve.
Try perinis ranch in buffalo gap.. better than Joe Allens.
ReplyDeleteIs that similar to the Chicken Ranch in La Grange? If so, I really would not want to eat there.
ReplyDeleteMore Kern bashing please!!!!
ReplyDelete**************ANONS***************
ReplyDeleteSTAY AWAY, IT"S A TRAP!!!!!!
OK bmo, I'll call you if we go Friday night. I may see you at the tennis center otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI'm picking the new pair up of Robinson/Newman to win doubles, but am hopeful that Bmo/Hutchison do very well! I'm also picking Foad Ansari to win singles, over sleeper Oleg Yaremenko in the final! Have fun everyone! Hit em good.
ReplyDeleteYes. Exactly like the one in LaGrange. No, its a great steakhouse. Joe Allens has gone downhill.
ReplyDeleteRosenquist is a 4.0 at best, he his the ball hard but it fat as hell and is 50/50 on all shots...
ReplyDeleteThe DTA had an opportunity to have a Major Zone and passed on it so S.A. got a third one (actually a second SAPTA got theirs the next year) DTA (Tina) didn't want the "hassle" of having to run another tourney (according to her)...
Thanks Tina - laziness at its finest.
ReplyDeletemr. inside information, i am 100% sure this is Pickett. Pickett keep your rude ass comments to yourself. you yourself are a 3.5 at best. you getting bumped to 4.5 was a joke. instead of talking shit about Trance and other people concentrate on learning how to captain a team basically give it up, you suck. you are nothing but a two face SOB.
ReplyDeleteYou know Joel's whole tennis career! Mancrush?
ReplyDeleteJoel is pretty hot! Too bad he has no game. haha.
ReplyDeletetina is a real buffet buster. have u seen how fat she is???
ReplyDeleteDALLAS TOURN CIRCUIT
ReplyDeleteThere should be a Dallas area tournament circuit of some type. Maybe tournaments at Brookhaven, Canyon Creek, Village , LBH, Hi Pt, Garland, etc where players earn points as they go. Then have a year-end "masters" for the point leaders. Only computer rated players can play.
Great way to increase participation at local tournaments. Also players could play a lot of tournaments w/o leaving town. (And the Texas Tennis Assoc could go to hell with their state ranking system.)
might be fun if the dallas tourns were connected with some type of local pt system. would work best for 3.5 and 4.0 where there are a lot of players
ReplyDeletetina is real tub of lard
ReplyDeleteI heard tina is on a seafood diet, she sees food and eats it!
ReplyDeleteMr. Inside information is 100% right on target. don't get pissed off at people who speak the TRUTH!
ReplyDeleteI am not hating the messenger, I just hate fat chicks!
ReplyDeleteNice to see that Zack Stein beat that prick Mike Getz
ReplyDeleteI do not know what all the crap about Mike Getz is about. He was a nice guy, hustled, and called everything right.
ReplyDeleteStein
Zach,
ReplyDeleteAny one that knows or plays Getz knows what you say is true. He apparently kicked some anonymous ass a while back and the guy holds a grudge.
It’s time for Enrique Molina to move up. Enrique wins another major.
ReplyDeleteGreat weekend of tennis in Abilene. Expect for the 25-35 mph winds of course. A lot of 3-set matches in the 4.5 draw including both semifinals. Whoever made the comment about Trance is crazy. He is closer to 5.0 than 4.5. He and his partner played Trey and I and his first serve of the match was at least 115 mph. He is not in shape for singles which he admitted, but his doubles game is strong.
ReplyDeleteI played next to the 4.0 dubs final and it looked like Keith and Tim were a little off. But it's easy to be off when you are playing against a former Division 1 player.
Trey and I had a great tournament in singles and doubles, at least in terms of points earned. A lot of surprises in all the draws which is to be expected when the wind is involved.
Also, everybody knew the Getz stuff was made up. Nobody with a name has said anything bad about him.
Congratulations to all the winners and we only have two weeks until San Antonio.
his first serve of the match was at least 115 mph.
ReplyDeleteA fast serve does not maketh a great player.
Cory is closer to 3.5 in doubles...115 serve? just hit it back and the point is over. Big serves don't work in doubles, but 115 is average, not big, just big enough not to be able to get in on.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Colby! good win in the finals, although I am sure you guys picked on Slezak, He's so overated.
ReplyDeleteLets see - the avg 4.0 serve is 65 mph. I doubt most on this blog have ever been across the court from someone that consistently hits 100 mph.
ReplyDeleteAh and for the record, a big serve is a much bigger weapon in doubles as there is this thing called a doubles partner waiting at the net to smack the shit out of a "just hit it back" weak ass return.
For those that were unsure - this is a tennis blog. The smack talk is fun to read, but at least be knowledgeable in what you are talking about.
I must be since I have destroyed Trance's weak ass every time we have played.
ReplyDeleteIf you could return or serve big then you would know what I mean, big serving is a liability unless you can hit aces.
Serve hard=hard return, don't be a donk
DTA has further shown their ineptitude, the pothead "head pro" for the Slam Jammers (kids program) is in jail. How will they sweep it under the rug this time?
ReplyDeleteNancy Noel had a good tournament making it to the semi-finals _ losing to Agostini. Juan is a solid player and Nancy took him to 3 sets. That's a pretty good showing.
ReplyDeletei'd like to see nancy pick up a ringer or two and challenge branch in the spring.
ReplyDeletemaybe nancy should combine forces with oak creek/feldman. combine the best players from those teams and they'd be in the running
Abilene tournament was run like a joke. I can't help but laugh as I look at the draws and see at least 3 examples where the score is posted wrong.
ReplyDeleteTrance is a big fellow and may not be as dominant in singles. If you truly "destroyed Trance's weak ass every time we have played", then you are the minority on this blog. I doubt you "destroyed" him, otherwise you are probably 5.0 player. In case you haven't noticed, about 85% of the people who post here are 3.5 or 4.0 players who like to talk like they are all world. The shit flows down stream - not up. There are a few 4.5ers who post but they are the minority.
ReplyDeleteso since i am a 5.0 are you telling me that I am wrong?
ReplyDeleteand he has got 4 games in three doubles matches
singles, he wouldn't get that
You are only 5.0 if you aren't full of shit.
ReplyDeleteIf you are being honest in your statements, then what I say isn't directed at you, its at the other 90% of people who post here.
This is directed at you -
True 5.0 players don't brag about beating someone with a rating under them. We don't see Corey swinging his dick around about all the 3.5 and 4.0 victories he has over the past several years. If you want to talk shit at least direct it at other 5.0 players.
I see Pickett getting bashed again. Surprise Fraser hasn't come to his defense yet telling us how great of a husband he is....
ReplyDeleteI see Greg Zachery is posting about his 5.0 greatness again.
ReplyDeleteI love it when people try to call out the anons! Genius!!
ReplyDeleteThat punk is a has been! He should just quit tennis.
ReplyDeleteZachary a punk?
ReplyDeleteGreg Zachary bashers? That's new.
ReplyDeleteGreg Zachary bashers? That's new.
ReplyDeleteI have never played Trance but he is a friend of mine.
ReplyDeleteOld school
I love the guy who said a 115 mph serve is average. Trance was #5 in the state going into this tournament in doubles and only played 3 tournaments I believe. I'm not saying he is the best player I've ever played but he is a high 4.5 doubles player at worst. I defy a 4.5 player to return a 115 mph serve past a net man with 30 mph winds consistently. Also, his spin serve was much more effective than his hard serve anyway. I returned a couple of backhands from the alley on the next court.
ReplyDeleteIf you have beaten him soundly, then you have my respect as a player. However, as previously stated, a 5.0 player shouldn't be bragging about beating a 5.0.
It was a good singles result for me in the long run since Juan beat JD Miles 6-2, 6-1 and I lost 7-5 in the third, but it was a match I certainly should have won. I had all the momentum from the end of the first set on but couldn't close the deal.
let's get a topic started discussing tri-level. who are the teams to beat and who are the weak teams?
ReplyDeletetri-level is over and it sucked anyway
ReplyDeleteSectionals, stupid. Who is gonna win it?
ReplyDeletewho cares stupid?
ReplyDeleteDallas is gonna win Tri Level for sure. They have 2 shots at it with the Wild Card. Should be fun.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Core Dawg at Abilene! You did well. Regardless of what the Hater's say, you have proven you can hang at 4.5, and belong!
ReplyDeleteAnd I just want to say I've enjoyed your Holiday Tournament - and it didn't cost me a dime. Appreciate what you do for the game dude! In fact, a "hear hear" for all you Captains, for putting up with all the whiney asses!
Holiday Tournament? Was this posted or a private affair for Core-Dawgs boyz
ReplyDeleteThanks Kirbster. I'm about to do another one that will cost you a dime but there will be prize money involved. It ended up being more work than I anticipated but it was a lot of fun for all involved.
ReplyDeleteI didnt know that the head pro for the DTA Slam Jammers is in jail. Is that true?
ReplyDeleteAnons are beautiful people
ReplyDeleteis it true dumass???
ReplyDeleteHow is an Oklahoma tornado like a Beumont, TX divorce???
ReplyDeleteIn both cases someone is going to lose a trailer!
This is a tennis blog...not a forum for some Leno wannabe. And if you feel the need to slam Beaumont, at least spell it correctly, dumb-ass
ReplyDeletegetz is posting anon now. my point still stands
ReplyDeleteHave you ever talked to Getz? I have and he doesn't even read this blog- he said it has too many comments from anons that would rather run people down than talk about tennis. You make his point.
ReplyDeletethanks mike for your input
ReplyDeleteLets throw out random names and see how long it takes Anons to put this person down.
ReplyDeleteAnons - What's your opinion of Steven Kent?
Is he related to Clark?
ReplyDeleteThere was already a long session of people bashing Steven Kent. I will start up a new thread once the draws for the San Antonio major zone come out, but that will be almost a week away.
ReplyDeleteyes, until the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteBazan has a 4.5 team? Wait a minute was that in Revelations after the rain shower of frogs and locusts???
ReplyDeleteHey CoreDawg,
ReplyDeleteGet the SA thread going cuz the draws are out! Nobody can claim SATA didn't do a quick turnaround on the draws. SATA runs their tournaments well too. Prizes are usually useful, not trophies that end up in the trash.
Check it out. OC BL is on clay this weekend playing 4.0. Way to step it up my man.
ReplyDeleteis coredawg even playing???
ReplyDeleteBazan's 4.5 team will not win a match. Maybe they'll lose every match 0-5. Not much fun for real 4.5 players.
ReplyDeleteSATA has no clue on how to make draws. 4.0 dubs draw has #1 seed and #3 seed on the same side and it's suppose to be #1 and #4 on the same side. 4.5 draw is correct.
ReplyDeleteTexas tennis draws are not like the NCAA tournament. 1 and 2 are opposite and then 3 and 4 are opposite but 1 is not necessarily opposite of 3 (it is random). That is how all USTA tournament draws are done.
ReplyDeleteI'm busy running a tournament all weekend at Fair Oaks. I will try to make a new thread on Monday but somebody else is welcome to do so before me (rocketman, OC BL, thunder)?? The last comment about drawmaking was accurate by the way. I didn't understand this method before but then I realized if you did it the same way for every tournament, you would get a lot of repeat matchups.
ReplyDeleteCorey,
ReplyDeletehope tourney is going well. new topic... not too much to talk about yet.
I like the prediction on our 4.5 team. I will take that bet once I see our flight and even predict I will win a match whiny anon biatches.
Don't give them a new topic yet, they are spoiled already.
but since you all are spoiled, any topic suggestions???
How about a thread on seniors!!!!
ReplyDelete"SATA has no clue on how to make draws. 4.0 dubs draw has #1 seed and #3 seed on the same side and it's suppose to be #1 and #4 on the same side. "
ReplyDeleteIdiot. Do you never watch pro tennis?
A lot of posting from a guy with a 50 mph serve. Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 11:22 you are a clueless jackass.
ReplyDeleteThere is no rule stating 3 and 2 are same half and 1 and 4 same half.
USTA regualations make 3 & 4 seeds equal and they are placed via coin flip in their respective draws. If their were 8 seeds, seeds 5-8 are consider equal and could be placed anywhere in the draw regardless if a #5 or #8.
oops sorry my comment is directed to the Anonymous poster 4:45 on Valentine's Day. Hopefully you cleaned off the mess from your jerking, seeing as how you were alone on V-Day.
