Brrr... Little to report
With the beautiful weather, I can't say much happened this weekend. Springpark/Sweeney did appear to wrap up the flight with a 3-2 win over T-Bar. With three matches to go, he has a 3 match lead. Technically, LB Houston has two losses but they still need to play Sweeney and Fikes. I don't see them getting through the end.
In the other flight, Brookhaven/Harllee are also in control and did play. They beat Lakes/Wagner 4-1. The only surprise is Wagner beat Braga. I didn't see that happening.
Nobody else apparently played.
This weekend doesn't look ideal either.

Rained out last weekend, snowed out this weekend. Waiting for the email from th dta demanding that all matches be finished immediately.
ReplyDeleteSpringpark is a giant of a force. Their mixed teams are unbeatable. I think the 8.0 team would win the 9,0 league. Kelly dropped 6 games in 5 matches. Their 40 and over solid as well. Alan A has a solid all around facility.
ReplyDeleteNot sure how Alan does it either but the men's 40 and over AND the women's teams beat up on everyone too
ReplyDeleteI know how he does it. Get the best mixed 8.0 player on the planet in kelley every year who starts you up 1-0, the add Gene davis and then alan playing as a 4.0. That is solid from top to bottom.
ReplyDeleteto 4:28,
ReplyDeleteIn case you haven't looked at the standings Alan's 8.0 team has not wrapped up a sectionals birth yet. They still have to play Canyon Creek AND Brookhaven once more with only a single match lead. Do your homework before before you post !!
I agree with everyone who has commented. Spring Park is like David battling a bunch of Goliath clubs around Dallas. It's "the little club that could."

ReplyDeleteyou actually think SP will lose to either of those? heck, most of the time the better players on those opposing teams either never show bec they don't want to be embarrassed or when they do they are so mentally afraid of mike and alan, etc. the match is over already. Chalk it up, SP wins yet another 8.0 cities.
I guess we might as well not even show. Never mind, it will be just like last year and they will lose when it matters. Last year it was Canyon Creek and this year the real tennis club wins! Go Brookhaven!
DeleteCanyon Creek is the REAL tennis club. We will be back soon.
DeleteAll clubs are real clubs. And we don't have anything wrapped up in 8.0. All the teams in the league could beat anyone else. We just practice every week and show up and play. If we get beat, we get beat. If you think you have a better team, that's fine. We just enjoy the competition and the matches.
ReplyDeleteMy 7.0 has it wrapped up.
..... and I am Santa Claus... Pleeeeez
DeleteHugs and kisses to all. We just play for fun. Nationsls is not all its cracked up to be. Expensive and tiring. Better just to lose in cities.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to cities?
DeleteI think what's going to be interesting is will Kelley play FW or Dallas. He is dominating in both leagues and both his teams will win their leagues. Since Alan just playing for fun my money in him choosing cowtown.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say we're playing for fun. I said we are having fun playing. If we don't win nationals, we will be very disappointed. That's the goal almost every season. I've said it before. The reason we do so well outside of dallas is that dallas gives us lots of tough matches. If brookhaven beats us, then they will do very well at sectionals. Which ever teams wins in Dallas, will have a great chance to win it all. But, I don't see us getting beat. We have the strongest team we have ever had. But, you never know.
ReplyDeleteAlan
You have quite a group of cheaters. Kelly, Davis and yourself at 8.0. Clark, Wiley and Zackary at 7.0. No reason you shouldn't win both.
DeleteEveryone has there opinions, but there are guys on every team as good as the guys on mine. The difference has always been the ladies on our teams. The play mixed a couple of days a week and they hit with guys as much as possible and they learn how to play mixed. Say what you want, the ladies make our team. Now you can call all of them cheaters as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd for years this blog has told me how much I suck and can't play and Gene has been out of tennis for 2 or 3 years. Mike is Mike. And for 7.0 Clark and Wiley called asking to be on the team after we had the other 4.0 guys. Pearson and Mauldin are just as strong, if not stronger then the other 4.0's.
The women always make mixed. Without good women, it doesn't matter. I've heard people say the man is what makes mixed, that person is a dolt. With bad women, the best man gets reduced to a spectator.
ReplyDeleteIf players all played at the appropriate level, the difference would be the ladies, Unfortunately, the out of level men are more than able to difference makers as long as the ladies can keep the ball in play. I have yet to see the difference maker in a playoff match at 7.0 or 8.0 be the lady. That's just Alan trying to smokescreen the real question. Why do such strong players not play up and have some challenge, instead of managing their ratings so they can dominate at the lower level? What's next - tanking down even further to win at 6.0 also?
ReplyDeleteand why does the USTA not do something about this and count mixed and especially mixed playoff results towards NTRP rating? Until they do, the biggest cheaters will be the biggest winners and SP may go to Nationals 10 years in a row.
DeleteWe have been to nationals twice in 10 years. if we cheated a bad as people think, we would have gone a lot more.
ReplyDeleteYou've qualified for nationals 3 times in the last 5 years. If your 40+ teams also play 18+ it will be 7 times in 6 years. Will you stop cheating then?
ReplyDeleteIf we win nationals
