So not much interesting going on in Flight A, T Bar and HP racked up a couple of more wins along with LB Houston. TBar and LB Houston don't play until the final match of the season, zzzzzzzzzzz this flight makes me want to take a nap.
Flight B
Lakes and BH/Helterbrann moved to 2-0 to hang out at the top of this flight, they don't meet until June so we will have to see if they both stay unscathed until then. High Point and Garland got wins to even up their record and stay in contention with the top two. No interesting matchups next week except for maybe High Pt. v. Springpark which could decide who will make a push to catch the top two teams.
Flight C
Wow. LB Houston/Jones is at the top of this flight, does anyone know anything about this team other than the fact they knocked Bartlett's fall playoff team to the cellar with their 4-1 win. JCC wins to go to 2-0 and Canyon Creek is also 2-0 in this flight. This flight is getting very interesting and will get even better as this new LB team takes on Greenhill on Sunday. They knocked BH to the bottom and if they hand a 2nd loss to Arnette's supposed top 5 team we are going to have a playoff makeup that nobody expected.
Flight D
Not sure the backstory of the supposed "upset" in the Springpark v. Stonebriar match. Any info would be appreciated. I find it odd it was entered by Springpark and they didn't notice they posted a loss for themselves, but mistakes happen. We will wait and see. Either way they opted to rest their big guns and had some really close results yet again. My team had a very close match and dropped after going up 2-1 we lost a 3rd set tibreaker and then preceded to lose another and Stonebridge got the win. Pearlman's team rolled as did LB Houston to stay towards the top.
whats going on with the Lakes? Have they added lots of talent/depth? Are they coasting? Are they just trying out new people? Are folks hurt? Their lineups have been varied.
ReplyDeleteAdded lots of new talent/depth would be my guess. All the new players they have added have won big so far...
ReplyDeletethey are good, I think unlike Spk they can throw in an entire different 8 players and not lose much especially at singles. Just imagine if Valtierra was still on that roster. Maybe that is why he decided to play up since they were stacked enough already.
ReplyDeleteI am not totally convinced they have a shutdown doubles team but then again who does (only one I have seen so far was Matt Barr and anyone he plays w/ at Eldorado but they are not contenders as a team), but they do have 3 teams that would look rather impressive lined up. I would like to see their BH/Helterbrann lineup, I think that will show us who they think is their best 8 players.
so springpark score has been fixed, I wonder how close those two tiebreakers were, they must like playing those, I hate them. Our team has only played two of them so far and we lost both. This week's plan, win or lose it happens in straight sets.
ReplyDeleteBest match next week in Flight A is 2-0 LB Houston vs. Lifetime
ReplyDeleteThere is only 1 team in flight A that matters, and it's neither of those teams.
ReplyDeleteYes, Tbar hasn't dropped a line in two matches.
ReplyDeleteheck, they haven't dropped even a set.
ReplyDeleteWith the addition of Snow and others, they are pretty good, and can match up well against HP.
That'll be HP's first test this season. Many more to come before season ends...
First test?--they barely beat Lifetime.
ReplyDeleteT Bar? HaHa HaHa HaHa HaHa !!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously who is writing this stuff?
Let the record speak for itself now, how about we wait and see how they stack up?
ReplyDeleteI don't know who Wallace is, but even if he manages to win line 1 singles I don't think that will cause us to "GO DOWN". T Bar would still have to win 2 more lines, and I don't see that happening. Todd Martin is completely average, and I'm pretty sure he is really old as well. I don't think we will even need to bring our best lineup to beat T Bar.
ReplyDeleteicepick = delicious
ReplyDeleteicepick's wife = delicious
ReplyDeleteJust face it the two best teams are HP Somabut and Springpark. The rest of you are just playing for third place. All the other teams might have a few good players, but no one can put out an 8 man lineup to compete with the top 2 teams.
ReplyDeleteThat has ignorance/arrogance written all over it, you just need to wake up from your own little world, Mr. most hated;
ReplyDeleteThere are several up & coming, LBH, Lakes, just to show a few. This is just what the other teams want - that same old FDH attitude.
In case you didn't realize what FDH stood for, it is Fat, Dumb and Happy!
Smile!
What SPk?? TBAR has played 2 bad teams. They should not have lost. Let's see when they play Lifetime in 2 weeks. Lifetime and HP are best 2 teams. Can't wait to see Lifetime play at full strength vs HP in the City Final.
ReplyDeleteFinals, don't you know you have to make it to the playoffs, before getting to the finals?
ReplyDeleteSorry Lifetime you won't make it to the playoffs. Your team is average at best. You don't have any of the top players on your team.
ReplyDeleteWe will see about that. No top players. hmmm. The top players from 4.0 moved up to 4.5. So there is a new set of top players at 4.0 level. Several of them play for Lifetime. Lifetime will be in the playoffs and will be in the City Final as well.
ReplyDeleteVery few of the top players in Dallas got bumped to 4.5. Lifetime doesn't have a single player I would put in the top 20 singles or doubles players in this league.
ReplyDeleteWho does Lifetime have that can compete with HP or Springpark? Am I missing something? And who are these "top players" you are referring to? What. Did Dallas even have anyone bumped up in the 4.0s?
ReplyDeleteAre some of you guys teenagers (or Doug Smith)? Good gosh, what's the purpose of this weenie size comparison? It's pointless.
ReplyDeletewhy is everyone talking trash as anonymous?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous
Hey now, ya'all got some FDH's as well. LBH - hey, wake up Don! Well, I dunno bout dumb, but after a couple of beers certainly happy. The playoffs aren't far away guys - time will tell. I used to gun for Somabut's team too, and actually beat them once, out of several tries. So I finally joined them. Practices are awesome, talk about having a huge group of guys to test your game with! It's a blast, that's all I know. I like it so much I probably only fit the 2nd/3rd portions of FDH now!
ReplyDeleteKirbster ps. guys, keep weanie sizes and wives out of the discussion please.
Anonymous needs to judge age better. I'm 39. I'm one of the oldest players on the team. Anonymous needs to put his name when he starts calling out my dubs partner's wife..........But she is hot!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for all these crappy teams to be put back into reality. The playoffs can't get here soon enough. This blog is the only thing that makes the regular season fun.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you are in a crappy division, MR. FDH and have no real measure of how you stack up against some of the improved teams in the league.
ReplyDeleteBetter start taking your vitamins immediately and get ready for what's going to hit you in the playoffs.
Smile now!
You misunderstood--it ain't that you look like a teenager, it's that you act like a teenager.
ReplyDeleteLifetime doesn't anyone in the top 20 huh??? I'd bet they have 3 of the top 12 players. The records will show that in the end. Watch and see that they will have 3 guys that should not lose a match in this league all season.
ReplyDeleteNot losing in this league is really not that big a deal, especially when you are in a crappy division, and don't have a chance to get to the playoffs, ha ha. Try a different angle to make your point...
ReplyDeleteIf 3 players from 3 different lines don't lose the rest of the way. Lifetime doesn't lose and gets to and through the playoffs. At the end of the day that is all that matters. Let the commentators comment on if those 3 are in the top 20. The commentators will be at home and Lifetime will be at sectionals.
ReplyDeleteLifetime at sectionals! Wow, you must dream big. Good for you, but in reality you won't win the flight, so then you're needing 2nd for the wild-card playoffs against some serious proven competitors. If you're lucky to win that, you meet the big boys in the real playoffs and that's where you'll see a magical run come to an end. Sorry but I've got you 3rd in flight A and just missing the wild card weekend. Maybe next year...
ReplyDeleteYou're right I do act like a teenager. You know me so well you're afraid to post your name. See you on the courts, I'll just assume everyone I play penned this anonymous post. Thanks for the addded motivation. See ya. Teenager
ReplyDeleteI'm still confused, who on Lifetime's roster is even capable of consistently winning at singles? I'm assuming you are considering 2 of your alleged unbeatable guys are singles players.
ReplyDeleteI just don't see it.
Can someone shed some light on SPK Walters team? Were they playing in the Fall, are they the same team that got beat by Lakes in the regular season in Fall, and also got beat in the round robin?
ReplyDeleteWho have they added to their roster in addition to Swift's team in the fall, and why are they so much better now?
Spring Park has added a few new players to an already strong team. Davis, McGowen, Rasor, Wildberger, Lazarine, Sweeny to name a few.
ReplyDeleteYou see, only a teenager would post like that. You're like one of Pavlov's dogs.
ReplyDeleteI probably agree Lifetime going to sectionals is a huge stretch but just so you know if they finish 3rd which is more than likely in that snoozefest of a flight we call Flight A they will qualify for the playoffs since Somabut's team does not count towards the standings in that flight.
ReplyDeleteIs this the Lifetime team with Hill, Marcus, etc...?
ReplyDeleteHow could that team compete in the playoffs? I don't see any truly above average 4.0s on that roster (at least the ones I know of).
Is all the talk because they are in a weak division? If not, then where is this coming from?
Random question from a Houston person...
ReplyDeleteMy wife has been traveling up there in the last month due to work issues.
She has not been able to "get out an hit" on a regular basis.
I have played at sectionals at LBHouston and High Point over the last couple of years, but what other places around town have either regular drill groups or pick up matches?
She is a competent 4.0 player that has been to sectionals in the past.
Any guidance you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Hello Chris –
ReplyDeleteYour wife should checkout Brookhaven (972-241-5961 – Pro Shop).
Brookhaven has drills available to the open public.
I believe the cost is $15.00.
The drills that your wife would probably have an interest in would be the following:
Monday nights @ 7:00 – 4.5 Drill (3.5 ++ to 4.5 players)
Tuesday nights @ 7:00 – 4.0 Drill (3.5 to 4.0 players)
Thursday nights @ 7:00 – 4.0 Drill (good 3.5 to 4.0 players
Saturday afternoon @ 12:30 (3.0 to 4.0, will have multiple courts and pros working the drill)
Sunday afternoon @ 1:00 (3.0 to 4.0, will have multiple courts and pros working the drill)
Best regards,
John
Springpark Walters is 5-0 in third set championship tiebreakers this season in their first 10 matches. That is very fortunate...
ReplyDeleteFortunate or very good. You decide...
ReplyDeleteUf they are so good then why have they lost sets in over half of their lines?
ReplyDeleteUf???? You teenager!
ReplyDeleteAny Dallas guys got a shot at doing well in Corpus this weekend? Are there even any Dallas guys making the trip?
ReplyDeleteIf you include the gas the entry fee would be $200. I'll wait for Waco and Tyler.
ReplyDeleteI heard a rumor that Lucky Thunder wore himself out playing singles at PESH before the big match
ReplyDeletethat sound you just heard was my team's season ending. Pearlman's team was tough much like Stonebridge last week. We went down 2 matches and then won 2 and lost for the 2nd straight week by a match tiebreak. Congrats to Brookhaven they are a solid team. Lucky Thunder didn't play at PESH but at Huffines yesterday. Lucky Thunder played well today but I had to put him at line 1 dubs today and he and Kyle went down 0-5 before fighting back to save face in the first set and then controlled the 2nd set rather easily. The 3rd set tiebreaker was tough and if anything Lucky Thunder and partner got a little nervous but our opponents were very solid. I feel great about my play personally but much like the rest of my team we have a little learning to do so looking forward to some fun matches the rest of the way and learning how to win some tiebreaks for the fall of 2009
ReplyDeleteWorst sportsmanship ever award goes to:
ReplyDeleteWALTER MOORE
Walter's SP team barely squeaked out a victory over Stonebridge. All the matches were close.
ReplyDeleteWhat's really telling is how weak Gene Davis and McGowan were in their matches. These two are totally overrated.
good sportsmanship award:
ReplyDeleterest of Brookhaven/Pearlman's team for their play and for apologizing for their rude teammate.
unless there was a misprint in the McGowman and Davis matches those don't look like weak or overrated results to me. McGowan probably picked up a strike for his match today and Davis might have as well. Have you been drinking anonymous? Close or not they won and that is all that matters, I look forward to our 5/18 match, no pressure on my group so we can just play balls out and see what happens.
ReplyDeletePlease don't take your balls out when you play. There could be women and children around.
ReplyDeleteSpringpark Walters is 12-3 on the year in their first 3 matchups. Of those 12 wins 8 have been a result of winning a third set tiebreak. That is extraordinarily lucky. Here are a few ways to look at it:
ReplyDelete-Springpark Walters is 8-0 in 3rd set tiebreakers; or
-Springpark Walters has won 66.6% of their matches in third set tiebreakers; or
-Springpark Walters has only won 4 of 15 matches in strait sets; or
-Springpark Walters is 4-3 in matches not decided by third set tiebreakers
I'm guessing that there are three teams in the A bracket and three teams in the D bracket that don't feel Springpark and High Point(Somabut) are overrated. Both 3-0 with 12-3 match records.
ReplyDeleteGranted they haven't played anyone tough, TBar hasn't dropped a line in three matches. Who is this Scott Wallace that is killing everyone??
ReplyDeleteUnless he is playing 3 lines per match I'm not sure it matters...
ReplyDeleteWallace's singles opponenets are 6-6 in singles matches. It's not like he has knocked off off a big name player yet...
ReplyDeleteInteresting weekend, we finally got to see the whole SP team! And they "woodshedded" a perennial force in Stonebridge. Yes, granted there were 3 third set tie breakers, but it was still 5-0.
ReplyDeleteCary, sorry about your loss. You had a very tough draw in getting the D division. The "anonymous" telling you to keep your balls in your pockets had to be the Great Jim W. Remember, he keeps telling us he is going to have his women play us.
This T Bar team may be for real - sure looks like they are making a statement with 3 blanks on the card for 3 matches.
Congrats to my HP cronies, 5-0, taking care of bizness!
Kirbster
SP may have come with their whole team, but I was disappointed to see that Stonebridge didn't show up with their best...
ReplyDeleteIt is still 5-0, but with a few asterix***
Lifetime won 4-1 at LB. Big match on May 18th vs T-Bar M. See who is for real. Lifetime should be able to get it done. Should be a great match.
ReplyDeleteWho would have made a difference from Stonebridge? Those were some of their best doubles players and even signed up Nelson on Friday for that match who got crushed by Gene Davis and partner. I will give me thoughts when we see them in person but I have a feeling they are pretty solid. I don't think we will see their A lineup but to be honest who always has their best 8 available, I know I never do that is why you have 12-17 players that you feel confident to put in matches.
ReplyDeleteI think the Lakes results are more impressive than any team so far. We can talk Spk and HP all we want but they are crushing teams and they keep adding players that are self rated or moving in from out of town, watch out for them.
Walter Moore is on ROIDS!
ReplyDeleteFive forfeits in the GreenHill vs. LBH/Jones match, and GH wins 5-0? wrong posting?
ReplyDeleteI did not and will never post about Cary or anyone's balls. I don't know about all the other divisions, but I am impressed with the depth and quality of players in our flight. The L1 dubs match drew spectators from miles away with high quality play. Germin and Slater played a great match. So TBar record is impressive even against weak teams, who usually have a couple of strong players.
