Not a whole lot going
on at the moment but we can take a look in the grab bag and see what’s of
interest.
Fort Worth tri-level ended yesterday. Normally not a big deal, although the
national championship Sisk team did play out of FW last year. Not the case this year, Sisk decided to stay
in Dallas, but a couple of Dallas teams did decide to crash the party: Team
Arcaria and Team Kanchi. As some of you
might remember, Arcaria took a team to tri-level nationals a few years ago and I
believe finished third in an odd format they had that year. So while his 2017 team is no killer, he does
know something about how to win at tri-level.
Not surprisingly, the two Dallas teams finished 1-2. What was a surprise to some was that Team
Arcaria beat Team Kanchi 2-1. It couldn’t
have been much closer with Team Arcaria having to win a third set tie breaker
on the 4.0 line as well as a second set AND a third set tie breaker on the 3.5
line. Clutch play by his guys and good
competition all around. Good luck at
sectionals. Hope you don’t get tired
with only two 4.5s on the roster.
The senior season is rapidly approaching. Today is the last day to have your minimum
roster filled out to reserve your slot for flight play. 4.5 currently has 12 teams and it looks like
all may make. 4.0 currently has 17 teams
but one has no one on it yet. Shaping up
to be a good over 40s season.
The 55s crew has six teams at 9.0 and nine teams at 8.0 but
one is currently unpopulated.
Finally, 40s mixed has had a rumor circulating around it for
a while now that the DTA may make it a one weekend tournament instead of a
flight play format as in years past.
Anyone have any concrete information on this? I don’t play mixed so I don’t care enough to
ask them but it seems some inquiring minds want to know.
Team Kanchi in FW a combination of Sisk's players and Kingsley's players. How is it they don't win out in FW? Just shocking.
ReplyDeleteKanchi has an entire roster full of 4.0s that played for him at sectionals. Yet he didn't invite one of them to play on his FW tri-level team that was surely going to sectionals. If I was his guys I'd be pissed.
ReplyDeleteSectionals were in July. That's a long time ago in tennis years. I doubt they care. And who are "his guys" exactly?
DeleteI can tell you who aren't his guys. The ones he took to FW and got beat. Check his team rosters. The same guys have been playing on his teams for three seasons now. That's 18 months, not since July. Not hard to figure out.
DeleteLot of turnover across those teams. Seems like Kanchi fields teams in every event, spring, fall, combo, tri level, and whatever else there is. Not a whole lot of carryover of "his guys" across those. So much is made out of captains and "their guys" on this blog. Players just play wherever and for whoever. Whatever is convenient.
DeleteSpoken just like Kanchi
DeleteHow about Mills, Titone, Muniz, Salinas? Hell, Fenter and Teterud play for Kanchi and he didn't want them for tri-level team either. After they beat his team maybe he's reconsidering.
Delete4:06, read again. Contrary to popular belief, good tennis players aren't super interested in pledging their undying allegiance to their captain
DeleteThere are many of very successful captains in Dallas that haven't had that problem. Maybe its just you.
DeleteOnly a captain would say that's a "problem" - if a captain assembled a group of good players, he deserves his props. That's hard to do, let alone lead a team to a title, and everyone understands that. Doesn't mean players are into erecting statues or following the guy to the ends of the earth.
DeleteToo funny. I haven't checked the blog in a month but this is good. So this guy can't keep players and he clearly wants a statute. In a bad way.
DeleteOr might be a non-captain making a point? Too many captains trying to construct overinflated rec tennis legacies for themselves and needing their egos stroked lol. Agreed it gets to be a bit much. Captains are important but this message board gets carried away. Probably more than a few captains on here posting on their own behalf.
DeleteKanchi deserves props. He has captained in league play three times. Won Fall 2016, was second(?) in Spring 2016 (sectionals wildcard)and won flight at sectionals, and just won Fall 2017. What more do you want?
DeleteFall not worth bragging about. But you know this. Losing to the JV team at Spring sectionals HUGE. Trump.
DeleteWinning the Fall means absolutely nothing.
DeleteThe problem is the guy is a HUGE blowhard. Rolls into Dallas with the biggest mouth in town, and that's hard to do. Immediately tells everyone his team is going all the way to nationals. How he wants a piece of Freeman. It goes on and on. He just won't shut up.
DeleteProbably just an over blown sense of self worth.
DeleteI apologize for stating the obvious (to some), Kanchi needs to choose between playing or captaining. He does neither exceptionally well. Certainly Kanchi is a nice guy and works hard at putting together teams. But a washing machine works hard too. Arcaria knows what time it is - he's won 4.0 nationals, 3rd at tri-levels and now scraps together multiple 'upsets' to advance to tri sectionals again? Really no mistake or surprise.
ReplyDeleteHow could Kanchi not know that you can't go against The TET?
DeleteIt's called ego. Like 'Let go my Eggo' and drop a g.
DeleteIsn't it about time for Cap Fan's annual Christmas blog?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe a Kanchi Christmas story?
DeleteI think his story has already been introduced to all.
DeleteMixed 40+ will be one weekend tournament - March 23 - 26, 2017
ReplyDeleteThis isn't a mixed blog
DeleteYes dta and other teams hoping Kelley out of town for spring break bec they know if it's a 5-8 week league the same ol result will happen. Alan and Kelly headed to nashunals. This way w a one weekend tourney there is a probabilitly of an upset... NOT
DeleteKelly getting weaker but still stronger than most. Lost his semi's match at nationals. Needs to bring a secret weapon next year.
DeleteThe flights for 40s and 55s are now out. Schedules to follow. In an unprecedented turn of events, flight A is the most difficult flight at every single level for both age groups. Don't think I've ever seen that happen before.
ReplyDeleteOf course 4.0 over 40s is the only event with two flights and flight A just happens to be a little tougher. One the upside, no bitching about having gotten the harder flight as in years past. And as for 4.0 over 40s, I think the DTA did a nice job of evening out the two flights with good teams and bad ones.
Any predictions?
ReplyDeleteWhatever team TET is on has the distinct advantage. Catlike moves, Brad Pitt's looks and the Tin Mans heart!!! TET IS THE REAL DEAL,
ReplyDeleteHe's the Kelley of 4.0
DeleteI see Kelley signed up for a 50's national clay court tourney. Will be interesting to see how he does. He would play Ramesh Krishnan if he wins his first match. WOW
ReplyDeleteStalking is really a sign of a mental disorder.
DeleteTET is a legend in his own mind. Dude talks to himself in third person. Wacko.
ReplyDeleteThat's not fair, I've known Tet a long time. He doesn't talk to himself as much lately, so the medication is working.
DeletePlay him. Blog results.
DeleteMost peeps talk to themselves on court. Most peeps have inflated views of their tennis ability. All peeps hide behind their blogs like a 5 year old. Trump.
DeleteAndy has bad teeth
ReplyDelete’Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro’ the house,
ReplyDeleteNot a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The rackets were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Sisk soon would be there;
The tankers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of nationals danc’d in their heads,
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a minature sleigh, and eight tiny rein-deer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Sisk.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and call’d them by name:
”Now! Dasher, now! Dancer, now! Now Kelley, and Kanchi.
”On! Corey, on! Captain Fantastic, on! Tiny Le and On Tertude;
"To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
”Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”
As dry leaves before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky;
So up to the house-top the tankers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys and trophies - and St. Sisk too:
And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Sisk came with a bound:
He was dress’d all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnish’d with ashes and soot;
A bundle of trophies was flung on his back,
And he look’d like a peddler just opening his pack:
His eyes - how they twinkled! his dimples how merry,
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry;
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face, and a little round belly
That shook when he laugh’d, like a bowl full of jelly:
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laugh’d when I saw him in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And fill’d all the stockings; then turn’d with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.
He sprung to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew, like the down of a thistle:
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight-
Happy Christmas to all, and see you at Nationals!
The DTA says that the Cotton Bowl Open division will be live streamed. But the link they provide on the tournament website doesn't seem to be working. What's the deal? Are they not live streaming?
ReplyDeleteIt's the DTA. Are you surprised?
ReplyDeleteWhat is worth watching?
ReplyDeleteI can watch better tennis and better production on the tennis channel.
DeleteThere are some d1 players who are local. Fun rooting for them!
DeleteSounds like a user issue. It worked for me. Bell did a good job.
