If you play on television, you're a 7.0. Past that you're just gonna have to wait.
As many of you are aware, the Monday after Thanksgiving is a
very popular day for USTA year end ratings to come out. While it isn’t always the case, it did seem
that the USTA had initially targeted Monday (yesterday) as the target
date. I am know hearing and reading that
the new target release date is this Thursday, although next week is a
possibility. Personally, I don’t care,
but it does remind me of several years ago (2009?) when the USTA did its last
massive reorganization bump. For those
of you who weren’t around or didn’t notice, in the 3.5/4.0/4.5 categories the
bump up percentages ranged from about 38% to about 25% that year compared with
a more normal range of high single digits to low double digits. I neither seen nor heard any speculation at
this point that another mass bump is coming but it does seem curious.
As for the fall playoff predictions, ehh.
Since there was approximately zero interest in the last fall
post about flight play finish and who would make the playoffs, I decided to
save my energy and pass on predictions. I’ll
dutifully report the final results but past that no one seems to care.
Good luck to all the combatants this weekend.
And congrats to Murray on his world #1 ranking.
And congrats to Murray on his world #1 ranking.
We want predictions....
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you start us off since you are the only one who seems to care enough to post
DeleteI would, but I am still fairly new and don't know all of the teams, nor who all qualified.
DeleteYou must be Raja. Word is your dream lineup is:
Delete1S Raja Kanchi
2S Raja Kanchi
1D Kanchi/Kanchi
2D Kanchi/Kanchi
3D Kanchi/Kanchi
Lineup tweaked for fall
ReplyDelete1S Raja Kanchi
1D Kanchi/Kanchi
2D Kanchi/Kanchi
3D Kanchi/Kanchi
4D Kanchi/Kanchi
Dominance! That's unfair!
ReplyDelete1S Raja Kanchi
Delete1D Kanchi/Kanchi
2D Kanchi/Kanchi
3D Default
4D Default
If you really knew him it would be arrogant so only three lines would be required.
Rain projected for Saturday so fall playoffs must be cancelled
ReplyDelete8 game pro sets to be played outdoors Friday evening, and under cover at Lifetime and Brookhaven Saturday / Sunday.
ReplyDeleteUSTA.com has updated rankings. Several Dallas players moved up a level
ReplyDeletetankers survived for another year
ReplyDeleteDo I win an award for the first successful appeal? They must have figured no one wanted a 67 year old bump up to 4.5
ReplyDeletePeople above 60 apparently have 0.10 rating margin where they can appeal, whereas others have 0.05
ReplyDeleteWhere are the ratings?
ReplyDeleteStop being lazy. Google is your friend
DeleteIf you can get signed up for a league you should be able to find the ratings.
DeleteNTRP Search box on league page on tennislink
ReplyDeleteSome epic tankers this fall. Let's just flunk 8th grade repeatedly. So we can be bigger than all those 12 year olds.
ReplyDeleteTime to move on to high school, guys.
I worked hard to flunk 8th grade again. Give me some credit!
DeleteWho are the epic tankers? Such a teaser.
ReplyDeleteLook at the Kanchi team. Kommineni, Kanchi
Deleteand Rivera have a case of fall tankitis.
..also the Sisk and Hurst Mayhem teams. Lots of blatant tankers on all 3. If the teams combine players they will undoubtedly win the 2017 4.0 national championship. If they don't, whichever team emerges from the Texas section wins.
DeleteWhomever is in charge of policing NTRP rating integrity has failed miserably.
Lucky for Kanchi, he had a few players willing to play legit tennis and carry the team to the playoffs. In spite of a handful of tankers racking up L's.
DeleteThose guys carrying the water are being used like cheap whores. Kanchi won't care about them next spring when he is running over the rest of Dallas.
DeleteLike, literally running over them? Yeah that'd be rough. He's not a small dude.
DeleteWell have fun in the little leagues. Ten weeks of beating hackers 1 and 1. Snore.
-Tiny Le back to 4.0
ReplyDelete-Alan "i don't tank or instruct others to tank" still at 4.0 Impressive for a teaching pro
- And the ATF Mike "I can't compete with the 5.0's" Kelly
Kelly try get to 4.0 but Todd change his rating
Delete3:53 is Zacry
DeleteI know how to manipulate the system and will see you guys at 3.5 next year. I should be suspended for my antics and playing people who were not even in the lineup many times but I am smarter than they give me credit for.
DeleteTony Le
Rivera 4.5...he did not tank. Great guy and didn't deserve the above criticism.
ReplyDeleteLook at his fall results.
Deleteyep .. blatantly tanked in the fall, losing 1 & 1 to a 3.5 player.
DeleteHe a nice man he just struggle in cold weather
DeleteJus like Zacry and Kelley.
DeleteRivera did not tank? You're joking right? He wins an Open tourney earlier this year but in the fall he and Kanchi lose at D4 multiple times to hacks. He is still out of level with a 4.5 rating.
DeleteThese ratings are completely worthless. In my opinion, having played USTA 4.0 league recently, atleast half the 4.0 players are out of level. There seems to be around 25% that should be 4.5 and around 25% that should be playing 3.5.
ReplyDeleteAnd I would say most of the blame goes to the USTA's rating structure. I believe most out of level players are not really manipulating matches. I feel most of my opponents have been legit. However, there are those, maybe 10% or so, that manipulate their scores. Therefore it seems the method of calculating ratings is really the big issue not so much the individuals.
well when the Top 10% of tankers tank matches against the bottom 10% you get this wide ocean of level of play, where you have 4.5 level down to 3.5 level at 4.0 when the tankers want a stupid towel to cover their ego
DeleteExactly. In Dallas there are lots of 4.5 quality players dumping matches to 3.5 / 4.0 players. The result is rating inflation to the recipients of the tank jobs and then to their subsequent opponents. It's a complete mess, but it's been going on so long here, and on such a large scale, that the blame needs to shift from the tankers to the system that continues to allow it.
DeleteWell said.
DeleteWhat I find frustrating is that it really would not be too difficult for USTA to improve the algorithm to detect systematic tanking. Outliers are not difficult to discover, especially given the small number of variables.
Kanchi & Co definitely rule the fall. They take the fall crown and the fall tanking crown.
ReplyDeleteRoussow lost a few 4.5s on his team that were bumped up to 5.0. Fortunately he has over 20 other guys left. Didn't look like many 4.5 teams would be altered much by new rankings.
ReplyDeleteThe computer finally caught up to Garland/Sisk and McKinney/Kanchi sandbaggers. Garland lost 11 players and McKinney lost 7. It's about time they play where they belong!!!!
ReplyDeleteKanchi and Le best 4.0's in Dallas. Pat Tetrude also up and coming. That right there would be a solid foundation to start a 4.0 dynasty this spring. Add Alan Abbruzezezez and they would dominate.
ReplyDelete4.0 's in Dallas ranking:
ReplyDelete1. Le
2. Kanchi
3. Teterud
4. Alan A.
5. Rajiv
Rajiv is better than all of those guys. Kanchi is probably weakest.
DeleteZacry beat all those guys
DeleteZak?
ReplyDeletefunny 11:38 is Zacry posting but no, I would not put him in front any of those guys. Especially in the summer.
DeleteNot sure I wouldn't have Raja first, then Le then TET. 4 and 5 a toss up.
DeleteTeterud is on my 4.0 team we are putting together and I would say he is easily two or three. Although he lost to Valdemort 0 and 1 TET has the prowess of a lion, the strength of Superman and the speed of a gazelle.
ReplyDeleteKanchi's tanker found their game again!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Brookhaven/Harlee for taking the Fall 4.5 crown, and McKinney/Kanchi for taking the Fall 4.5 Juniors crown
ReplyDeleteRanchi rules the fall!
DeleteKanchi will make it to nationals next year. He told me that himself.
DeleteWhat happened in the 5.0 playoffs?
ReplyDeleteIt was canceled, not enough courts available.
DeleteIt was played. The lakes won vs JCC
