In an attempt to keep the 3.5 players from cannibalizing each other in their thread,
I will start
the official Houston Major Zone thread.
Let's take a look at who from the Dallas area elected to put tennis before their
family and
Christ the Lord Almighty and spend Easter in the cesspool known as Houston, TX

Where are the Doubles comments?
ReplyDeleteDoubles gets the short shrift as usual.
ReplyDeleteIs doubles even considered a sport anymore? lol
Marc-
ReplyDeleteAs many of the anons have so eloquently pointed out, I am NOT from the Dallas area but thanks for the warning about my back and my tires. I know and have played the 3.5 guys from Dallas that have signed up and they are all good players with a chance to go far in the draw. I guess all the anons are staying home to go to church. Good. They need to repent. Mike Getz
Red-headed stepchild, indeed.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Dutchy will be seeing 5.0 anytime soon. You can move up pretty fast from 3.5-4.5 being an athletic, speedy backboard. But to win at 4.5 and jump to 5.0 requires some more firepower.
ReplyDeleteQuite the progression in 2 years though.
I looked at the dubs,
ReplyDeleteAnd in most cases the people playing singles are also playing dubs,
Nothing to talk about till the draws are posted,
The MZ's are a long drive just to play dubs,
Single elimination, long drive for one match, you best be good.
I don't know why you would drive from Dallas to Houston or San Antonio unless you expected to get deep,
Dutchy has a lot of miles on the odometer over the last couple years,
ReplyDeleteI think playing the Major Zones will be less fun for him this year when he gets bounced in the first round.
To 11:22 and 12:31
ReplyDeleteCan't ya'll find something more constructive or interesting to say then to call me names? Are you like in third grade or something? I notice that you don't have the courage to call me these names to my face or to sign your name to your post - that says a lot about you. I also notice that you didn't have the courage to enter this tournament, which is what this thread is supposed to be about. Stay in Dallas and peck away at your keyboard - it suits you better than playing tennis. Mike Getz
Oh, ….. that’s a really bummer about ScottRusselltennis.com. This economy is hitting everyone.
ReplyDeleteGetz is worse than a bad case of hemrroids
ReplyDeleteI know, he hooked me once in a third set tie breaker when the score was really tight.
ReplyDeletemy god we cant get rid of that piece of gsrbage, getz
ReplyDeleteI played Getz in the 3.5 Sectionals a couple years ago and lost 7-6 in the third set due to 3 horrible calls. I had to call for the tournament ref but it was too late. Bloggers are right about this guy. Getz cheats!
ReplyDelete- Tom Williams
Keep the Getz talk to the shitty 3.5 league thread please....thanks.
ReplyDeleteI had a similar experience with Getz. Several very bad calls when the match was close. You tournament guys are forewarned!
ReplyDeleteLETS ID ALL THE CHEATERS
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Getz is the worst, but who else is know for bad line calls? Share your experiences.
"In an attempt to keep the 3.5 players from cannibalizing each other in their thread,
ReplyDeleteI will start the official Houston Major Zone thread."
lol! (although it's still being brought to this one)
Dammm! 3.5's still after so many years of tennis. Sucks to be you. Haha
ReplyDeleteIf you click Future Match Info report, you can figure out who you are going to play and when even though the draws are not officially out.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to click on results and it shows if you won or lost and the score!!! It saves you all of the hassels of traveling to the tournament.
ReplyDeleteDraws are up.
ReplyDelete4.5 singles semifinals
ReplyDeleteSanchez vs. Winner of Moser/Omon (I'll take Omon)
Winner of Green/Brandt (I'll pick Green) vs. Winner of Lacy/Sevin (I'll pick Sevin)
Green over Omon in the final
4.5 doubles
The exciting matches start in the second round with Leija/Miles vs. Omon/Ricardo, Vernon/Mills vs. Green/Morton, Regent/Li vs. Ludtke/Rivera, Brandt/Rockey vs. Bradley/Lacy (if the hype is correct), Bui/Hasker vs. Pham/Nguyen. A lot of those matchups would have been good finals last year.
I'll go Vernon/Mills (revenging their Tri-Level loss to Green) vs. Brandt/Rockey in one semi and Foster/Merhi (upset special) vs. Omon/Ricardo in the other.
Brandt/Rockey over Omon/Ricardo in the final.
Good luck. I'm sure these will turn out as poorly as my tournament bracket.
Kern...too much time on your hands lately?...not even playing this tournament and checking the draws....how is the kissing ass technique going?...found a team to play on yet?.......or you hoping to get bumped down to 4.0?
ReplyDeleteNot good enough to play in tournaments. Looking to get bumped down to 3.5 where I might have a chance. Still working on the kissing so I can find a team. Thanks for checking up on me.
ReplyDeleteRoland Waits will win 2.5 singles. He is a ringer for sure. I hear Sisk already has him lined up for 3.5 next year.
ReplyDeleteFunny that riley and morales play first round again. They played first round last year. What are the odds?
ReplyDeleteMy predictions in 4.5:
Quarters
Sanchez v. Morgan
Moser v. Dibua
Green v. Hawkins
Del Campo v. Schumucker
Semis
Sanchez v. Moser
Hawkins v. Del Campo
Finals
Sanchez over Del Campo
But what do I know?
Ummm - Kern, Green could only meet Brandt in the Finals. You also seem to pick 3 semi-finalist. Frankly - your thread makes no sense. May want to try posting anon next time.
ReplyDeleteYep, screwed that one up. I meant Daniel Rockey, Brandt's doubles partner, who Tim could play in the second round. I did have 4 semi-finalists though.
ReplyDeleteSanchez vs. Omon
Green vs. Sevin
I'll keep signing my name so you can keep bashing. Hopefully I screwed something up in this post as well.
Sandbagger alert
ReplyDeleteWatch out for Mohit Milekani in 3.5
He has only played in one tournament this year, Courtyard Classic in Austin. Did not drop a set and did not lose more than two games in any set and left players like Gilberto Flores and Scott Cannan in a crumpled heap. Anybody know anything about this guy?
A 2.5 draw? Is that not the same thing as the Special Olympics? Or is the Special Olympics tougher?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the age limit for 2.5? I might add my 3 year old to the draw, she probably has a good shot.
ReplyDeleteThe last comment is simply cruel.
ReplyDeleteYou are probably like me....started out playing so awesome....was auto rated at 5.0.....and didn't even play college tennis....right?....haha....i should enter my 5 year old as well.
Looks like someone offended two of the 4 guys in the 2.5 draw.
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought this blog would attract 2.5 players,
ReplyDeleteTim Green will not make it past Daniel Rockey. Scott Sevin will not see the semifinals either.
ReplyDeleteI'll pick Tim over Rockey.
ReplyDeleteI'll go with Sanchez, Dibua, Green and Lacy as my final four.
The statement:
ReplyDeleteBad news for all,
ScottRusselltennis.com is no longer operational.
:(
Is not true, he just turned on the asshole filter to keep certain people out. Go ahead and try it....
4.5 picks
ReplyDeleteSanchez over Dibua (Rivera for darkhorse)
Green over Miles (bottom quarter looks wide open)
Sanchez over Green in the finals
Corey - If you read this - Last week was bad form man. I don't appreciate driving 30 minutes each way for nothing. You need to communicate better with your team and the opposing captain. I didn't say much at the time, but the more I thought about it, the more pissed I got at wasting my time.
Bottom line - it's just rude to show up 2 people short especially for a scrimmage that I think you asked us for.
Of course i read this. I already apologized profusely for what happened Saturday. The synopsis of what happened is this:
ReplyDeleteMonday through Wednesday I was communicating regularly with Todd, telling him I only had 7 players for the scrimmage. On Thursday, somebody else e-mailed and said they could play. On Friday, that person dropped out. When this happened, I immediately called Todd and left him a message saying we would only have 7 players. Saturday, one of my players no-showed, leaving me with 6.
I volunteered to sit out but Todd told us to just play and that you guys were fine just mixing around after we were done. Two of my guys stayed and played for another hour after their matches finished. If you were there, either of them would have been willing to play with you or I would have as well.
Just like in any match, I can't make people show up. I think I did all I could do in that situation to make it as pleasant as possible. I hope there are no hard feelings.

ReplyDeleteAnyone tired of playing at such crap locations at the Gallery? Its the hardest major, gets the best players, yet the facilities are by far the crappiest for 4.5. 3.5 was bad too. Heavy leaning courts at Homer Ford with major cracks everywhere. What crap. I was bummed out about that. What did you guys think? I am thinking of skipping it going forward. Not worth it. Sectionals is more worth my money if I had to pick one.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIf you are only going to travel to one tournament a year, then Sectionals should be the one you choose. Houston is a sh!t whole of a town.
ReplyDeleteYes Corey, I know the story. You left a message Friday night on our captains voicemail at work.
ReplyDeleteWe also said to mix up the doubles after your first set. Didn't happen, whatever, I didn't want to do that anyway.
Two of your guys stayed for an hour after their match - Well gee, isn't that swell. If I just would have waited 2 hours, then I could have played someone.
I just wanted to make a point that it wasn't cool so hopefully someone else won't have to go through the same thing. There are no hard feelings.
Keith Robinson being bumped down is not even fair to the rest of the league. If Keith doesn't win the whole thing, he should consider himself having failed miserably. Semi's????? maybe he is getting too old already and past his prime?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you're blaming me because you live 30 minutes from Oak Creek. Nobody else seemed to have an issue. Also, your guys were the ones who insisted we continue playing and not switch out.
ReplyDeleteKeith has never claimed to be a singles player. Semifinals is a great showing for him.
ReplyDeleteFinals 9:00am on Monday,
ReplyDeleteD'oh
Miss work on Friday and Monday
Plus travel expenses,
and Crappy facilities,
What a shity week-end
"It sounds like you're blaming me because you live 30 minutes from Oak Creek. Nobody else seemed to have an issue."
ReplyDeleteListen Corey. I'm blaming you b/c I took the time to show up for a practice match you wanted and you were 2 ppl short. I would have been pissed if I lived 10 minutes away. I won't speak for the others affected, but I doubt they were happy with it either.
If you can't see how it was rude and keep making flippant statements like above, then there might be some hard feelings.
PS - Del Campo was a nice pick. 2 out of 4 semifinalists - I think you win.
Vik, CoreDawg and Htown,
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty sad that between the four of us, noone could pick more than 1 of the semifinalists in the 4.5 draw and nobody picked the winner. I agree with Vik that Corey's pick of Del Campo was the best since it was probably least expected. However, I will have to say we all lose overall.
Good luck to everyone as league starts and maybe we'll do better at picking Waco.
Thank you for eliminating the ability of anonymous people to publish the hatred and garbage and returning this blog to discussions about tennis. For those in the 3.5 level, watch out for Mohit Nilekani -he won the Gallery in Houston without dropping a set after having won the Courtyard Classic in Austin, also without dropping a set
ReplyDeleteVik - do you not have CoreDawgs e-mail. I do not know exactly what happened here, but the one thing that is in poor form is you using this blog to publicly lash out at a guy. What the hell does this have to do with the 2009 Gallery Furniture Open?
ReplyDeleteHe has my e-mail. He just wanted to pubicly scold me for not escorting my players to the match in our team van. I will remember to do that next time.
ReplyDeleteBTW, even though we were two players short we still won the scrimmage.
I love the new no anons rule though. I was wondering why there were so few posts and then I remembered Cary told me he was disallowing the anons.

ReplyDeleteNo, I do not have Corey's email. I didn't save it from 8 months ago. Didn't think I would need it.
ReplyDeleteI'll just say that this little interaction confirms my good judgement from prior to fall season.
So you didn't save my e-mail, similarly to how I didn't save Todd's phone number? I didn't think I would need it.
ReplyDeleteHere's the part of this issue I don't understand:
ReplyDeleteIf Todd schedules a practice with 8 people and two don't show up, do you get mad at Todd or do you get mad at the 2 that don't show up? The answer seems obvious to me but based on this situation Todd must have his hands full. How is this situation different?
Yeah Kern. My picks sucked. I think I'll stick to the March Madness pools from now on.
ReplyDeleteYes Ted I am old. My prime was at least 15 years ago. Me making the semis in singles was kinda funny.
ReplyDeleteOk Keith I have to ask. Where were you 15 years ago and what level were you playing at?
ReplyDelete15 years ago I was still in the army. I wasn't playing tennis. I quit playing tennis after high school. I started playing tennis again about 5-6 years ago.
ReplyDeleteWow...someone new to the sport (10 months), never picked up a racket before, thoroughly enjoys the game and loves to learn...must be a ringer if rated 2.5? Understand, I'm not offended, but I thought the tennis community, as a whole, was open, encouraging and supportive of those wanting to participate in a great sport. It would seem as though that's not necessarily the case. I certainly hope the "annonymous" members of your tennis community are the exception and not the rule. As for the Special Olympics comment, just another example of ignorance. I would challenge you to find a wheelchair tennis participant and play...it will (hopefully) give you a different outlook. As for having your daughter sign up to play...great idea! You might want to find someone to explain and demonstrate good sportmanship and appreciation for everyone in the sport to her...just my thoughts!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your blog!
