In Cary's honor, I've decided to put odds for each team. Feel free to post predictions/results as soon as they are available.
Blue Flight
Brian Morrison 8 to 1
This team doesn't really have a weak line but I would have to put them at the low end based on what I've read or what I know, which is very little. 4.5 team is made up of some 4.0 bumpups so I'm not sure how well they will do. Also, Forrest is a singles player I believe so I would think he will have his hands full. 3.5 is not my forte but not much respect for them in the previous thread.
Strongest leg: 4.0
Terry Foy 4 to 1
This team looks to have more depth but no real dominant line I would guess. I know nothing about their 3.5 players but their 4.0 and 4.5 players are not pushovers. Hans was undefeated during the season and will look to continue that streak. Not enough star power to compete with the top teams though.
Strongest leg: 4.5
Corey Noel 2 to 1
OK, OK, yes this team has an amazing captain that always puts a strong team on the court but they are definitely the underdogs. Solid players at all 3 lines but I'm not sure I would classify anybody on this team as a ringer. The key will be trying to find a spot where Corey can lose a doubles line and the team can still win. Have you seen that guy? Man, he's terrible.
Strongest leg: 3.5
Collin Thompson Even
This team undoubtedly has the most depth of any in the flight. Although I think depth is not that important in this format, they have strength as well. Any combination of their 4.5 players will be tough to beat, and their 4.0 and 3.5 teams all have solid track records. Some combinations will be weaker than others though so it will be interesting to see how the lineups shake out.
Strongest leg: 4.5
Red Flight
Bob Somabut 10 to 1
It's rare that I have an opportunity to rate a team of Bob's in last place but I really think he just formed a team to have fun this weekend. He has only one 4.5 player signed up on the team and he played 4.0 all last year. His 4.0 players are all strong but I would suspect Newman and Voss will play 4.5, seriously weakening his 4.0 teams. 3.5 team did well at tri-level last year but injuries and lack of practice could worsen their results.
Strongest leg: 4.0
Marc Rossouw 8 to 1
I know the least about this team of all the teams but the players I do know are strong. Laselle and Ramos have a chance to go undefeated in the flight but I'm not sure where the other wins will come from. Somebody will correct me I'm sure. I know Rossouw put a strong combo team out there so he probably did the same for this.
Strongest leg: 4.5
John Kraemer 6 to 1
This team gets its position simply based on strength in numbers. However, it's hard to know who will play with such a big roster. I'm not that familiar with too many of his players but I know Malcolm is solid at 4.5 and Gene is a strong 4.0. I would expect them to be competitive at all lines but I don't see any guaranteed wins on the roster. I believe they have enough talent to overwhelm the other two teams but not Pickett.
Strongest leg: 4.0
Joel Pickett 1 to 2
Another team that is already counting on making it to Sectionals based on their roster size. I really wouldn't be surprised if they finish the round robin matches at 9-0 or 8-1. Three 4.5 players that are practically undefeated, 4.0 players that have dominated for years, and a hodgepodge of 3.5 superstars. It's really hard to see this team not advancing to the final.
Strongest leg: All of them but I would have to say 4.5.
Finals Pickett v. Thompson
3.5 Again not my area of expertise but I would think Watanabe/Atlas would take on Palacios/Dennis. I would have to give the slight edge to Watanabe/Atlas based on playing experience but I'm too lazy to really put any research behind this pick.
4.0 Keith and Steven should represent Pickett against Kemp and Carlquist. A lot of history among these four players but I would expect the longstanding team of Keith and Steven to pull out the close win.
4.5 So it will all come down to the 4.5 clash of the titans. I am almost sure Kevin Durten will represent Thompson. I don't know who his partner will be but the other three are relatively even. I've heard great things about Leija but I think Phy and Slezak are better. Either way expect the team will be Phy and one of those two.
And the winner is: I look for Durten and his partner to continue their streak from the fall and pull out a tight one.
Thompson wins 2-1. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this match ended up 3-0 either way, or if all three matches went to third-set tiebreaks. The teams are just that close.
This should be enough to sustain a debate until Friday.
Good luck everybody and play well.
I think Joel Pickett team will win.
ReplyDeleteGood post, good analysis
ReplyDeletePickett vs Noel in the finals. Noel will win it.
ReplyDeleteGiven BMO's team's odds of 8-1, I think I will take Sisk's bet on the 3.5 line for the Bob's gift card and $300. If I lose, I just owe you $37.50 and a gift card to McDonald's.....right?!!
ReplyDeleteBoth Sisk and Alan have big serves. Alan is more of singles player though and prefers the warmer weather given his Peruvian blood. The barn could reak some havock. It will be a good match either way and both will have fun.
If I can come and watch, I will be inside at the bar drinking on Alzuro's club tab.
kaiser
Well Done Noel.
ReplyDelete"A hodgepoge of 3.5 superstars" on the icepick team??? What in the hell are you talking about, looks to me like more of a hodgepoge of over weight, and overrated 4.0 bump downs and never weres... you might want to put some research in your predictions. As far as you own team... just because Sisk likes to spew hot air out of his blow hole, and Wiley and Kaiser always comes to his defense doesnt make them some kind of world beaters. I predict the Noel team will be lucky to finish the 3.5 line with one win out of the three matches.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see if the Barn conditions have a say in this at all. Although not a true indoor environment, outdoor players don't always translate to indoors the same due to court speed and lighting; not to mention the cool weather.
ReplyDeleteAnalysis is very solid. Good meat for debate here.
I think it will be a fun event of tennis in January nonetheless. Good Luck everyone.
This is all based on January tennis, anything is possible if people haven't been playing much during the winter. One would think it would Be Thompson/Pickett final but this early, you never know.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I would predict, but then I predicted Bazan to win it all last week. As we all know... dead last was the result. OUCH!
ReplyDeleteI would much rather be an underdog than one of the favorites any day, makes you hungrier. But Kaiser is correct, singles is my preference and if it's cold and we are stuck out in the barn, all bets are off. But this should be fun and we have nothing to lose, so we'll swing for the fences.
ReplyDeleteGerber
I like Brian Morrison team taking down Corey's team right off the bat Friday night.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I knew I should not have ate all those twinkies and bon bons over the holidays!
ReplyDeleteArcaria (one of the overweight never was bump downs)
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteBarn conditions were wierd, I played in their twice and the ball flew out most of the time and as most of you know I don't hit that hard. Tospin and power needed in that barn. climate controlled courts play pretty much like a perfect outdoor day minus the sun.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you all
Arcaria; USTA does not show you as a bump down, so I'm assuming that's not you, unless you are wishing you were a 4.0 at some point? And we know better about the twinkies, the others on your 3.5 squad beat you to them.
ReplyDeleteLOL! I have seen Acraria before. Look at his physique. The boy knows his way around a twinkie.
ReplyDeleteBut no twinkie box goes un-killed in that group.
Thanks for the analysis, very interesting.
ReplyDeleteLittle bird just told me that Takashi doesn't fly in until Saturday from Japan.
ReplyDeleteLooks like odds just went down on B Morrison's team if that is even possible?
Arcaria and Twinklies? Have you seen Wiley and Sisk? Now those guys know their way around a Twinkie
ReplyDeleteGreat analysis.... FYI: Rossouw's combo team didn't have LaSelle and lost Ellis at the last moment due to work travel commitments. I do know they have some injury problems though....
ReplyDeleteWiley and Sisk graduated from twinkies long ago, they are on to bigger and better things. In fact, they have a team meeting at quiktrip Friday before the match, just to down a couple footlongs and slurpees to get them warmed up for their match.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a blood bath if you threw a box of twinkie's on the court while Noel's 3.5 team was playing Picket's 3.5 team.
ReplyDeleteAnybody's welcome to join me, Greg, and Sisk at Cici's Pizza for the all-you-can-eat buffet after the Friday matches. You better get there early though or it will be too late.
ReplyDeleteThat would be a bloodbath, first Wiley and Sisk would eat the twinkies and then eat the Pickett 3.5ers
ReplyDeleteDo they serve beer at CiCi's? If not, count me out.
ReplyDelete"Do they serve beer at CiCi's? If not, count me out."
ReplyDeleteI do not think so.
they serve beer at ChuckeCheese which is where Wiley Sisk and Noel belong... looking at the little kids
ReplyDeleteTHANKS FOR SIGNING UP DeFeo!
ReplyDeleteSisk
C u at cici's
Since when did Wiley Sisk and Noel quit hanging out on Cedar Springs?
ReplyDeleteI don't know what that means. I would assume some kind of gay reference.
ReplyDeleteHey CoreDawg, what's up with the meeting at CCs, are you a pig too?
ReplyDeleteWhen was the last time an anon actually was able to contribute to the conversation?
ReplyDeleteDon't think Wiley is gay. He and his wife have 4 or 5 kids. Also, I really don't consider him fat, I always thought he was skinny.
ReplyDeleteanons are peace loving people
ReplyDeleteI was blessed with high metabolism so I can eat whatever I want anon. In all seriousness, we will be going to Snuffer's tonight after the match if anybody wants to come. Otherwise, see you guys at Brookhaven tonight. Hopefully indoors.
ReplyDeleteIt is true, I am not gay. Sorry all of you anons, but I am straight.
ReplyDeleteKim and Alan thanks for a great match. We really enjoyed it, I wish you well the rest of the way!
ReplyDeleteJohn
THANKS FOR THE TWINKIES
Not a dominant performance tonight by any means but we will take the W. I successfully kept Jim at the 4.5 level for at least one more season by pairing him with me. Probably the worst match I've played in a long time according to myself and many observers. Congrats to Forrest and Takashi for pulling out the shots when they needed them though.

The biggest backhanded compliment ever...
Corey, we all know you suck at doubles. No shock here
nancy's team has a good chance to win this thing
ReplyDeleteWe all know that including me. That's why i only play when i can afford to lose.
ReplyDeletePickett (2-0) vs Rossouw (2-0)
ReplyDeleteNoel (2-0)vs Thompson (2-0)
Winners advance to finals!! Should be a competitive day tomorrow.
"A hodgepoge of 3.5 superstars" on the icepick team??? What in the hell are you talking about, looks to me like more of a hodgepoge of over weight, and overrated 4.0 bump downs and never weres... you might want to put some research in your predictions. ReplyDeleteHaha, maybe you should do your research!! Noels and Picketts 3.5 lines are each 2-0. Nice predictions!!
"Pickett (2-0) vs Rossouw (2-0)
ReplyDeleteNoel (2-0)vs Thompson (2-0)"
I feel good about my pick but on friday Pickett almost lost so I am concerned about sunday.
This tri-level tournament has been a great experience thus far and I really think it's a shame that the USTA limits this event to only 8 teams. In some ways, it does make the matches more competitive with mostly elite players playing (excluding myself) but I think it's something everybody should be able to be a part of.
ReplyDeleteThe camaraderie and sportsmanship among all players and captains has been superb and, regardless of the outcome tomorrow, this weekend will be a fond memory for myself and the rest of my team.
That being said, we will be playing to win tomorrow. Second place is getting old.
When the 4.5 and 4.0 matches split tomorrow it will come down to 3.5 matches:
ReplyDeleteIf Thompson is smart, Myers won't play again. Even so, Atlas and Watanabe likely to team against Sisk and Wiley. I favor Sisk and Wiley based on their Cotton Bowl performance.
Icepick puts Palacioz/DeMetsenaere out against Mitterer/Strohl. Palcioz/DeMesenaere should win this one based on doubles experience.
Main issue for captains will be whether they play their strength or try to be equitable in number of matches played. With two teams at 2-0 in each flight, it's win or go home, so they should be playing strength.
Thompson 4.5 & 4.0 both win. 3.5 won't matter tomorrow.
ReplyDeletemyers sucks the guy should be playing 3.0 if he plays thompson loses
ReplyDeletePickett team lost 4.5 and 4.0 3.5 team rolled with Stephen and Shawn
ReplyDeleteellis is a good player
ReplyDeleteThe Pickett 4.0 and 4.5 lines struggled all weekend, the 3.5 lines rolled easily each match, they only lost 9 games total in 3 matches.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with Pickett and his team is that first he stacks it, and then they are the only ones who talk about themselves to everyone and on the blog. So it's nice to see a stacked team not make it. Who cares about their fat 3.5rs. Pickett may not sleep for 2 weeks.
ReplyDeleteim confused. somone explain to me how you stack in tri-level?
ReplyDeletepickett's team did well and just came up short just like everyone else except Team thompson.
must be the same jerk off Life time players talking trash again.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Collin Thompson and his team!
ReplyDeleteRossouw vs Pickett
Biggest surprise was Greg Schwartz and Chris Ellis beating Keith Robinson and Steve Brouer at 4.0. What's up with that??? Schwartz can barely get out of his own way.
Having watched the Fake Trilevel and played in the Big Boy Trilevel --> the level of play at 3.5 and 4.0 was far superior this weekend.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't have anything nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all. Tennis is for fun and denigrating others shows a lack of class. We all have the love of tennis in common, so let's stop with the player bashing. Last time I checked there was only one perfect man...
ReplyDeleteAnd let's give Nancy some credit for picking the tri-level winner.
ReplyDeleteApparently shortz game has gotten better since last time.
ReplyDeleteHow About- Good Job Rousso (SP) . That was a strong team. Rousso once more get's to go home to his wife and once again proclaim that size doesn't matter, even in tennis.
ReplyDeleteIf only we could have this type of turn out for tournaments in Dallas during the regular year?
That was some great teams with some great tennis. It was a good weekend.
Very Interesting to see how Spring plays out this year.
KMart has quick hands, and Ramesh (sp) has very solid reflexes as well. Defeo and Flora are a LOT stronger team than I woulda thought at 4.0. Anderson & Gerber looked good out there. I could go on and on, but I am sure Corey is doing something already.
Nice job Greg Wiley and Zack Stein winning over Atlas and Watanabe. Never would have happened if Sisk was in the line-up.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Team Thompson for pulling out the victory over Team Rossouw in the finals. What a great group of guys on all the teams. I had a blast hanging out and watching all the matches.
ReplyDeleteSisk is actually a very nice guy and one of the few that has the cojones on this blog to post his name consistantly. His serve is mean when it's working and he actually moves around well for a big man. This weekend was a great time and we got to meet some really cool people. Looking forward to the spring.
ReplyDeleteGerber
best part about tri level was being around the females.
ReplyDeleteI will take credit for picking the correct winner. Tough pill to swallow since my 4.0 team had 5 match points against Thompson's team. Congratulations to Rossouw's team for a great showing in the underdog role.
ReplyDeleteI'm not one to call people out but, in the words of Ed Werder, "an anonymous source told me" that Phy Pham skipped out on the Sunday morning match to go to Winstar and wanted to play the Finals instead. Way to let the rest of your team down.
In conclusion, Thompson's has won the last two USTA league events, not to mention Feldman was on the Combo team that went to sectionals. I do not have one bad thing to say about any of the players our teams played this weekend and nobody deserves it more than Thompson's team.
Winstar on a Sunday morning? They dont even serve alcohol.
ReplyDeleteNOT PHYNOMENOL. way to suck it up
Anon,
ReplyDeleteI'm 3.0 that's why i didn't play.I can't win at all, if i didn't have a strong partner.Is it you that said Stein couldn't win with either of us?
I appreciate the kind words Alan, all lifetimers are good guy's, enjoyed the entire event. I wish all much success in the Spring! I want to thank all of my guy's for your effort!
Sisk
Also notable that the two finalists got a grand total of 8 votes to win the tri-level out of 88. Says something to the credibility of the bloggers eh? :) For the record, this is probably the first time since the inception of the blog that I've made an accurate prediction.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing, I take back all the doubts I had about the Lakes 4.5 team during the season. From what I saw from Scott and Jeff on Friday, it's easy to see why their team made such a turnaround this season. Could have been a much different weekend if Oberg was healthy. If the Lakes can find a dominant singles player or two they will be a force in the spring season.
ReplyDeleteWhoa Cowboy. Ease up a little on The Coredawg. It's the off season & you'll give The Anons a bad reputation.
ReplyDelete"We got to me some really cool people"??? Come on Gerber are going GAY as well??? What's next are you going to be sporting some of those Garland team pink panty's???
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should revisit our ban on anons this year.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be something if you got your ass kicked by someone wearing pink panties...just state your name, because I'd rather be wearing pink on the outside.
ReplyDeleteAG
AG is somewhat lacking in the sense of humor department.
ReplyDeletehis comment was meant as humor.
ReplyDeleteDear 3rd person AG,
ReplyDeleteWould you please point out the humor 'cause I'm missing it.
Do you get the part about the pink on the inside? Perhaps you need to look in the mirror once in a while to remind yourself what a twat looks like.
ReplyDeleteAfter meeting a bunch of nice people this weekend, I can't understand the rudeness on this blog.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Thompson's team.
As for the Sisk hater saying I could not have won with him; Zach won in spite of me and he would have done just fine with John.

ReplyDeleteWell I was wrong:( but Pickett's 3.5 team looked very solid in the loss this week.
ReplyDeleteWhich "idiot" are you talking about Jessie J, or AG?
ReplyDeleteit does matter what mom is, he hits it from behind!
ReplyDeleteProbably a roid rage moment by AG.
ReplyDeleteCan't tell which there is more of on this blog; hypocrits or real estate agents with not much to do these days, perhaps one in the same.
ReplyDeleteReal Estate Agents may not be busy but Bankruptcy Attorneys sure are.
ReplyDeleteIt is a federal holiday so maybe the government workers, school teachers and bankers are all worked up.
So I'm arrogant for posting what somebody told me. The facts are that Phy was not there for the Sunday morning match, and the captain wanted him to play. No offense to Jean, but no captain is going to play him over Phy in that situation. So which part of the story did I have wrong? Sounds like sour grapes to me.
ReplyDeleteTo Greg, the rudeness of this blog comes from people who weren't good enough to play this weekend so they have to talk. They are bitter because no team wanted them so they are jealous of the players that played and they want to hate on them. Either that or they are spineless cowards who don't want to put their names behind their opinions.
ReplyDeleteWhich is it?
Based on the comments and so many tight scores that the tennis was good for all. Sure wish i had been able to be a part of it - guess it will have to wait til next time.
ReplyDeleteIt was a blast this weekend and congrats to the Thompson team for winning it all. Having 10 teams play rather than 8 would be nice with 5 on each side. Would allow more to enter but also allow for another match for each team. Not sure if it is possible but a thought. Good luck at sectionals team Thompson!
ReplyDeleteArcaria
why so many posts deleted? did AG go on a roid rage.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that. Doesn't really make sense for last weekend's event with fewer teams to have more matches than a bigger event. Obviously we lucked out with the weather but they had plenty of court space for more matches.
ReplyDeletePersonal attacks with no merit or comedic value add nothing to the discussion and don't deserve to be seen, in my opinion. You can post those in someone else's thread if you like.
ReplyDeleteFellas,
ReplyDeleteIn fairness to all, I was given wrong information about the where abouts of Phy. He was actually dealing with a personal emergency. Phy was a committed part of our team but family and personal issues always come before a tennis match. It's just tennis.
Nonetheless, Team Thompson deserved to win and are the champs. I know they will represent Dallas well.
Pickett
OK. The issue is settled then. Family comes first and I would expect that to be the case in any situation. From what I know of Phy I was surprised by what I heard and I'm glad the truth has come out.
ReplyDeleteMy apologies for conveying the bad information I received.
Phy is now phynemonal.
ReplyDeletePhy for President 2012
ReplyDeletescottrussell.com for president 2012
ReplyDeleteIt was great meeting many new people.Great talent and people! Joel,Shawn,Alan,Brandon,Forrest and
ReplyDeleteBmo I enjoyed it.
I hate I had to give up my Bob's gift card to Kim and Alan for a win, but it was worth the win(on paper) ENJOY GUY'S
Sisk
Sisk,
ReplyDeleteIt was great meeting you and Ethan. Ethan, thanks for sharing your donuts with Julia, my daughter, and I. Hope to see you at the courts soon.
Pickett
not surprised that sisk likes donuts
ReplyDeleteCorey,
ReplyDeleteI don't know why you are always trying to add your 2 cents to things that don't involve you nor do you know what your talking about.
You don't know Phy, and you had no idea what the true story was, now Joel has to come on here and tell everyone in Dallas that Phy had some personal stuff to deal with because your the dumbass that's questioning him over a goddamn tennis match.
Very Classy Stuff!!
Slezak
To everyone else, enjoyed this weekend, it was a good time.
corey noel is a drama queen!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your opinion. I wasn't the one who screwed up the story. One of his teammates told me that. I never gave my opinion, only what I was told.
ReplyDeleteDon't get mad at me because your team had wrong info. The question you should be asking is where that info came from.
To top it off, your calling me a dumbass and then saying I have no class. I'm not the one resorting to namecalling. I already gave my apology to Phy so what more do you want from me?
ReplyDeleteI really don't see what Corey did wrong here. Somebody told him something, he posted it, he was corrected, he apologized, end of story? Am I missing something? Move on to something else and leave Nancy alone.
ReplyDeleteNoel vs Slezak = Meow vs Hiss
ReplyDeleteIf anyone did anything wrong, it was the person who opened his trap to begin with. That person had to be the team captain, Icepick. I too heard the same story from a few people and it was Corey's version. Now Icepick is just coming on here with a new version to cover for his boy Phy. Corey is doing nothing wrong and at least has the nuts to post his name every time he posts, unlike most making the personal attacks. After all, this is a blog to discuss that sort of thing, is it not.
ReplyDeleteSorry Slezak I probably have to side with Corey on this one, he was just digging to find out something. We all have reasons we have to adjust our lineups and as our helpful anon just noted this is the kind of thing we might talk about on here.
ReplyDeleteYep I said it, an anon put in a good word. We need the anons.
Thanks for the deletions btw Coredawg.
Hey 5:53 poster, you talk about how Nancy "has the nuts to post his name" then you ramble on and dont post your name... what's that about?
ReplyDeleteAs far as Slezak goes, he sounds like he is more than just a little bitter about Phy not showing up (for whatever reason) and his team coming in as favorites and going out as losers... I think we all know that there was more truth to what Corey reported than what people are now trying to "spin" another direction...
Anon!
See Carey, The Anons are your friends.
ReplyDeleteUmmm, well that was me. I put in the good word.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to piss Icepick off or he may not have me on any more of his teams, but I have to tell it like it is.
ReplyDeleteAnon 5:53
The only thing I don't understand is why was this even posted by Corey about Phy? It didn't concern his team or affect his team so why does he and everyone care so much.
ReplyDeleteGuys,
ReplyDeleteIt's in the past. Team Thompson are the champs. Team Rossouw took us down with or without Phy. Lasalle and Ramos played awesome. If anyone is to blame its me, Icepick. I had false information and despite that should have kept my mouth shut. In the end, I'm the dumbass and we lost TWO lines and the match.
Pickett
Anon 5:53,
ReplyDeleteYou do not know what you are talking about. You heard a version from a couple people, never the source, and you attack Pickett? As a member of the Pickett team, he told me that morning that Phy was not going to make it because he had some personal issues, nothing about Winstar, etc. Phy was slated to play, and due to personal reasons asked not to be in the lineup. Joel did not state anything about Winstar, so I don't know where that came from. Joel is not trying to cover for his boy, his story all along was personal reasons, so why don't you stop pointing fingers when you do not know the facts either!
Snoop, why don't you stop defending your loverboy. I overheard it from Pickett himself so shut the f up.
ReplyDeletegood post Icepick. U da man.
ReplyDeleteJason
It's not Snoop, it's Arcaria, and he told me and another teammate personal reasons! You can state now that you over heard Joel saying that, but that was not initial statement. You said that you heard from a couple people the Noel version, if you heard directly from Pickett, Winstar, I think you would have stated that. Either way, it does not matter, I was just stating what Joel told a couple of us directly.
ReplyDeleteI don't know but Slezak appears to be more right than wrong & Coredawg appears to be more wrong than right in that disagreement. So I'll have to side w/ Slezak on this one. Just my opinion.
ReplyDeletewho cares. They lost.
ReplyDeleteArcaria, a word to the wise; Don't put too much faith in Pickett. He will tell people whatever is most convenient to make himself look good, even at the expense of his friends.
ReplyDeletePickett has already admitted that he told people the Winstar version. He, like me, was misinformed. The reason I put my two cents in was because I felt bad for Joel that he was missing one of his best players for the most important match. At the time, I thought it was by choice that Phy didn't show up. Now I know it was for personal reasons and I accept that and have no problem with Phy not playing.
ReplyDeleteMy main issue was that I related to Joel as a captain because you always want your best players on the court to give your team the best chance to win.
All of this is overshadowing the great tennis and excellent sportsmanship that all teams displayed this weekend and the great team we have representing Dallas at Sectionals.
Bam.....pow..........ouch!
ReplyDeleteAt sectionals there will be alot of pressure on the 4.0 and 4.5 lines to win because the 3.5 Thompson team is extremely weak, and could lose each match.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they can be called extremely weak. Every match they played was close right? At least on Sunday they were competitive.
ReplyDeleteI'm still siding w/ Slezak. I don't care how you try to explain it away.
ReplyDeletePickett had a deep team, he should have been able to win it without phy anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe whole conversation feels like listening to a bunch of girls with drama.
They showed more in the loss to Stein/Wiley than they did in the win against Strohl/Stanton. They went 2-2, and they barely beat Strohl/Stanton who were rolled by Arcaria/Bennett 2 and 0. For sectionals they are definitely the achilles of the team and could struggle imo!
ReplyDelete"Pickett had a deep team, he should have been able to win it without phy anyway.
ReplyDeleteThe whole conversation feels like listening to a bunch of girls with drama."
agreed. Jean was on the team to play, and he had not played up until that point, and the Rossouw team happened to be better on that day. Pickett mixed up his lineups all weekend, so that he would have options if his team went to sectionals, and it did not work out. If the 4.0 win the 3rd set tie break this is all irrelevant anyways.
Part of the disadvantage of too big a roster in my opinion. As soon as we added a 4th 4.0 to our roster, all hell broke loose. It puts too much pressure on the captain to try to get everybody in. Three players at each level is ideal, but then you would be shorthanded in Sectionals without any one of those players.
ReplyDeleteYet another argument for more matches at the local level. Had everybody been guaranteed four matches, four players per level would be more reasonable and the USTA makes more money. What's the downside?
Admitting when ur wrong is not convenient at the expense of a friend I think Pickett cleared it up by admitting he was given wrong information and giving credit to Thompson and Rossoue for winning.

It doesn't bother me if you side with Slezak. If I had it to do over I wouldn't have posted the comment about Phy but hindsight is 20/20. I just don't think attacking somebody personally with namecalling is the way to get your point across. That's what anons are for.
ReplyDeleteAnons do not condone name calling. The person doing the name calling signed his post. I think Anons, in general, agree with his point. You Sir, just gave The Anons another bad Rap
ReplyDeleteYes and if Noels 4.0 had just won 1 of the 4 match points then Thompson would not have made the finals. It was very close to being a Pickett/Noel finals. All came down to the 4.0-third set tiebreaks.
ReplyDeleteI have to side with Corey, Nancy, and Coredog!!! Its his thread so he gets the last word. If you want the last word start your own damn thread!
ReplyDeleteAnonyomously anon.
Arcaria, Pickett didn't say anything to make himself look good. That was a jealous comment.
ReplyDeleteI would still put my trust in you Icepick even if you didn't win. I thought Keith/Steven were a lock at 4.0 and I'm sure Icepick did too.

New Thread please I'm tired of hearing about the losers. Lets talk about the winners Thompson and Sectionals. When does the Spring season start?
ReplyDeleteOur team had alot of fun this weekend (congrats team Thompson!) and Jane emailed today to invite us as a wildcard to the sectionals in Houston - I'm trying to get all our guys to go.... see you there team Thompson!

ReplyDeletewell done roussow
ReplyDeletewho EFFIN cares about pickett and phy. they lost. they are like the dallas cowboys in which there is so much drama and talent, but no winning. congrats to thompson and rossouw for wild card.
ReplyDeleteNow lets talk about the spring.
Team Pham/Pickett will go to sectionals

ReplyDeleteI hope Phy doesn't have any "personal problems" should they make sectionals.
ReplyDeleteleave the wives out of the conversation.
ReplyDeleteBranch has a stacked team for the Spring
ReplyDeleteeven after losing so many players?
ReplyDeleteYes, He is reloading just like Somabut at 4.0
ReplyDeleteI like the Spring talk but can we talk about 3.5 who cares about 4.0 and 4.5
ReplyDeleteI saw some 4.5 players at tri level that should be playing 3.5 and vice versa

ReplyDeleteTo answer an earlier question, the spring season begins in the spring, I think?
ReplyDeleteAnyone playing in the brookhaven tournament on the 6th?
ReplyDeleteThere is usually a big 4.0 draw in the Brookhaven indoor tourney.
ReplyDeleteI will start a new thread on Monday for the Abilene Major Zone. Somebody else can do the Brookhaven dubs thread but I'm playing in Abilene so I'll focus on that. It hurts both tournaments for them to be on the same weekend but they are every year. Half of the players signed up for Abilene so far are from DFW.
ReplyDeleteWay too early to talk about the spring season.
Everyone knows that Somabut slept with Jane Gilpin to get Steve & Keith bumped back down to 4.0 (despite going undefeated at 4.5).
ReplyDeleteHow is Branch going to reload his team?

ReplyDeleteThat's a great captain. Whatever it takes baby.
ReplyDeleteHAHA DANG!!! I didn't know my absence was causing all these drama...i didn't realize i caused pple to hate each other...if i knew that it would, i would have never sign up in the first place...PEACE EVERYONE!! WORLD PEACE PLEASE!! or PEACE IN DALLAS AT LEAST ..since yall can't really control world peace..haha
ReplyDeletehugs and kisses,
Phy
Rossouw’s team has just received a wild card invite to Sectionals.
ReplyDeleteWho cares. Nothing worse than a loser with another chance to play.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt. It would be embarrassing to show up at sectionals and have the TD introduce your players as THE LOSERS FROM DALLAS.
ReplyDeleteWILD CARD TEAM = INFERIOR TEAM
ReplyDeletelol why bother
ReplyDelete*********CONGRATULATIONS*********
ReplyDeleteAs a wild card team, the only good that can happen is that you may receive a T-shirt that says: "I played at sectionals too." But who knows, you may have fun.
Coredawg is a Drama Queen.
ReplyDeleteOnly if PHY would have played Sunday morning ....... I would be heading to sectionals.
ReplyDeletePhy is Phynomenon

hahaha nice 2 see you post on here.
PHY – is that a pic of you wearing a thong in the locker room?
ReplyDeletePhy you look hot in a thong
ReplyDeleteDear -Y-,
ReplyDeleteI have never beat around the bush so I will ask you straight up: "Are you a gay white man looking for some action"?
I mean first you showed up here with a guy picture and than you switch it over to a hottie. So can you convince me otherwise? It doesn't really matter so you can get out of the closet if you wish!!
Glad you asked. The picture is a male transvestite (me). Now don't you feel foolish?
ReplyDeletewhat if it is me in the thong?? you want some action?? come get some baby..hahaha
ReplyDeleteI think you guys are confused. -Y- is not Phy. He doesn't look that good in a thong. I know. That picture is actually Nancy.

lol nice to see you are watching me but the pic I had before this was a blonde with big tits. lmao good try
"what if it is me in the thong?? you want some action?? come get some baby..hahaha"
ReplyDeletehahaha you sure do bring out some weird people on this site.
GUYS! That is one hot pic! Are some of u guys seriously complaining?? Also, from a diff blog u answered my previous question. YOU COULD play a full 3rd set! u aint some fat old dude!
ReplyDelete"Also, from a diff blog u answered my previous question. YOU COULD play a full 3rd set! u aint some fat old dude!"
ReplyDeleteI did not say old just fat.
I know who u r! You gotta a lot of twinkies to eat before u can't make a 3rd set. i can't believe u r one of THOSE people
ReplyDeleteI think alot of people know who I am. It's nice to be known:P
ReplyDeleteHe ain't no Wiley or Sisk or Pickett 3.5. I think we are all fortunate Pickett/Noel did not make the finals. Those 3.5 lines may have caused a polar shift.
ReplyDeleteThis is a follow-up on the earlier items about Rossouw’s team making the sectionals as a wild card. It should be noted that as things transpired in Houston, the "Losers from Dallas" ended up finishing second. They missed winning overall when 2 points in a tiebreaker fell the other way. That sounds like a worthwhile trip to Houston and like a wild card team that acquitted itself very well.
ReplyDeleteUmm, Wild Dallas did not come in 2nd place. They came in 2nd place in their POOL. Dallas and Dallas WILD both finished 2nd in their pools. The bracket winners were SETX 3-0 and Houston 2-1. Houston beat SETX 2-1 in the finals and is headed to Indian Wells.
ReplyDeleteNot only did "Wild Dallas" look good they swept their last two matches 3-0. The team they lost to Houston went on to win it all. ( By 10-8 in a tie breaker ) Had "Wild Dallas" made it to the finals there is no doubt that they would have gone to Nationals. Marc Rossouw did an incredible job as captain with this team that was more or less thrown together. Look out for them next year.
ReplyDeleteIf Grandma had balls she'd be grandpa. Wild Dallas lost 3-0 to Houston. What makes you think they would have won in the finals? I watched Dallas lose to the Southeast team in the semis. The 4.5 was the decisive match and it was not close. Wild Dallas would have had to sweep 3.5 and 4.0 to have a chance to win it all.
ReplyDeleteUmm, while bandying semantics is all manner of fun, it can cause one to lose sight of the original point. The point never was that this team finished second overall or even second in their pool.
ReplyDeleteThere was a rash of negative comments, an all too frequent occurance on this blog, when this team received a wildcard berth to Houston. This team was said to be clearly unworthy, an also-ran team, undeserving of a trip to Houston.
Second in pool or second overall, either way their performance invalidates the comments made about them.
