So the super senior league concluded and Huffhines will represent Dallas at sectionals at the 7.0 level and TBar at the 8.0 level.
I mentioned Lamson/Milke who had a tough match v. Oakridge this weekend but apparently it didn't have near the drama of their matchup with Huffhines just last Friday.
Brookhaven just need to win the match last Friday to advance in this league and Robert Lamson and his partner had a chance to finish off Huffhines and take the sectional spot but...
after winning first set 7-6 and getting up up in second set 5-1, 45-5 and serving for the match. Huffhines stormed back and not only won the 2nd set, but won the match in the 10 point 3rd set 10-8. This was a nail biting match for both teams as even though Huffhines won 7 straight games, they were not runaways.
Thanks for the info from Huffhines and good luck at the next level.
Congratulations to TBM and Huffines. Also interesting to note that Super Seniors must use a different scoring system than the rest of us. I'm not familiar with 45-5. Just joking!
ReplyDeleteActually we did not play that great. But Lamson and Milke really CHOKED!!!! They were so nervous they were nearly pissing their pants. We appreciate the gift and we'll enjoy going to Sectionals.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that Huffines team the same one that went to nationals 2 years ago?
ReplyDeleteI love anonymous comments. Without them we would not get the real story!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Huffines has a shot to win Sectionals and make Nationals again?
ReplyDeleteChuck's 60+ team made Nationals in 2006. But they finished 1 -2 in their flight at Nationals. Southern Cal won that year. Many of the same players are on this year's Huffines team so maybe they'll get another crack at Nationals.
ReplyDeleteHuffines,
ReplyDeleteGood luck at Sectionals!
Isn't Mitch's dad on that team?
ReplyDeleteThe one that taught Mitch that vigorous yet graceful backhand return?
I think so if I remember correctly.
Sure wouldn't wanna meet Huffines on a dark tennis court...
No that's Mitch. He just has the body of a 60 year old.
ReplyDeleteOkay, that makes sense that Mitch is playing 3.5's. He seems to be struggling at 4.0 pretty badly.
ReplyDeleteYes, that Huffhines team has I think only 3 players that have not been to at least sectionals in last 2 years. Most were on the team that went to Nationals 2 years ago. And what is crazy is that it is full of 70+ year olds as well.
