Feel free to talk about and post match results that happen tonight and on Saturday. If you played give us a recap or if you are anonymous you can make fun of how many times the old guys forgot the score, etc.
Hopefully the weather will agree and we will have three new champs on Saturday early evening.
Best of luck guys!!!!!
Bender and Prather win and set up a good showdown for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteParekh and Beck together, Al is good but no one can carry Gary against quality players.
well so much for my close match theory in the opening match of the 4.0s. springpark crushed Barlett's team and should be fresh so I am thinking of changing my final prediction but that would be too easy so I will stick with T Bar.
ReplyDelete4.5s:
What the FU#$? Brookhaven defaulted and then there was two matches that retired, what went on there?????
Bender's team took care of Prather's team relatively easily. Parekh's line was the only one that appeared to struggle. So much for the guy who said Atlas's scores would be "close."
ReplyDeleteGreat win Bender. Impressive win and congrats.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to High Point Bender they were by far the best team this weekend. With Dave Atlas playing all 3 Matches at line 3 they were almost impossible to beat. Prather lost line 2 after having 6-2 5-2 lead but thats tennis You have to close out a good team when you have the chance. All the matches were very competive and fun. Hope everybody enjoyed the matches as much as I did.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Bender's team. Also, Ed Ratcliffe's comment is pure class.
ReplyDeleteWay to go all players from Bob Benders team. You all played very well and were the best team this week end.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate all of the good sportsmanship and tough competitiveness from each player on every team in the 3.5 level throughout the playoffs. I was glad to see that and be a part of it. Way to go all.
David Prather
David,
ReplyDeleteThank you for you kind comments. It is always a pleasure to play your team. You have a bunch a really great guys and strong players! I'm sorry that Larry was not able to play.
I hope to see you soon.
-Bob Bender
Last time I listened to that much self congratulation I was watching a clip of the Tyra Banks show.
ReplyDeleteMaybe age makes you more calm, can't wait till the Spring when the young crazy people can spark some friendly yet feisty competition.
Radcliffe,
ReplyDeleteyou seem fairly solid, how good is Atlas that he gave you all a bagel this weekend?
Hector,
what happened this weekend? I was pulling for the GH and Huffines groups to mix it up.
Mr. Ratcliffe that was not me posting that comment. My posts are more entertaining, and I don't watch Tyra Banks.
ReplyDeleteThe original Mr. Anonymous
Sorry I sometimes do watch Tyra when I get a chance just because she is annoying much like mr. original anonymous.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you all had a good time I just wonder if Prather's group is secretly hoping they could play them again and crush those guys maybe with Reitzer and without Mr. "ringer" Atlas
-new mr. annoying anonymous
to Hector Davalos, David Atlas was a very good player. His forehand was strongest shot. The 1st set was very close the 2nd they got a break up and just rolled from there. Bob Bender has a very solid team without Atlas. They deserved to win we the Oak Ridge Boys will try to play better then we did this weekend in the coming season.Hope to see you then.Ed Ratcliffe. For some reason cant get my user name on top.
ReplyDeleteRatcliffe,
ReplyDeleteLooks like you are a little unlucky, playing Oberto in the fall playoffs and then Atlas in the sr. playoffs. But it is always fun getting the play the best players in your division.
Oh and to put your name up top, just select "Name/URL" and it will offer you a space to write your name or title, etc.
Cary, Thanks for info. As you said its fun playing real good players. All we can do is play as well as we can and hang in there. I look forward to meeting you at some point. Prather was really disappointed at his resuls letting 2 big leads get away. That dont happen to him often. To all the guys I played Good Luck in the upcoming season. ED Ratcliffe
ReplyDeleteBazan, Finally figured what I was doing wrong!! Thanks Again
ReplyDeleteDid anyone here playing in the Arlington tournament? If so how was it, any good players or interesting results?
ReplyDeleteBender,
ReplyDeleteI have no excuses. I didn't play my best game and I played against good players. My compliments to all my opponents. All I can say, is that out of 3 matches, I had 5 tie breakers. At least I went down fighting. I look forward to trying to play my best during a championship match. I am a tenacious son of gun if I say so myself.
Hector
Hector I remember seeing you play against my guys at the city city playoffs last year. You are a tough player, I think you are a little like me in that your partner selection makes a big difference upon your result. I know how it is to lose some close matches, I went a not so stellar 1-2 in those same playoffs, losing two 3rd set tiebreakers. A new season starts soon and all those losses are gone, (unless you are like John Sisk and track your stats back from the late 1970s.)
ReplyDeleteWow, what a bunch of BS, all of this Tyra stuff. Let's play some tennis.
ReplyDeleteEnrique Molina won the Arlington 3.5 s tourney.
Isn't he one of the Oak Ridge boys?
Bazan,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the compliment. All I can say is that: all this competition is what makes America and tennis great. Its time to start a new fun season. Good Luck.
Hector
Tyra was an amazingly hot woman but she has gone off the deep end mentally and bodywise.
ReplyDeleteYep Arlington tourney was a little light on entries, but Dutchover did win the 4.0s taking out Leonard Hutchison in the final.
Noaman Azhar (go team!) won the 4.5s beating Paul Trevino in the final.
Wow, Why dont you anonymous guys sign your name on your next entry. Then we can continue needling each other by name even though it would not be as much fun trying to figure out who the jerks are.Enrique Molina is an Oak Ridge Boy & is playing as well as anyone at this time I think he is 13-1 this year so far. Cary cant wait for your pre season odds and thoughts on the upcoming season since most rosters are filled by the way Prather told me that Jonathan Marcus is going to play for us
ReplyDeleteAlready working on it Ed, I can't wait for Wed to get our schedule. I actually work down the street from the DTA so I will take an early lunch and start scouring the schedules, I won't get any work done that day.
ReplyDeleteI am sooo ready to get this season started, I really think 3.5 and 4.0 will be very competitive overall. I am really ready for this crazy weather to calm down in time for April 12-13 too.
Good news about Marcus, he was going to be on my 4.0 team but my team got really full and I had to turn away a couple of good players like Jonathan. If he does end up playing for you all I think that would really help your depth and in your flight you will need it.
The Arlington tournament was light on entries.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout-out Cary, but in the 4.5 finals I beat Valko Jelev not Paul Trevino. Trevino lost in the semis to Jelev, I believe.
I didn't see any matches in other divisions so I can't say if there were "any good players or interesting results." However the facilities were pretty nice so I would reccommend the tournament to anyone interested in playing in it in the future.
Noaman
I have to say in 3.5, that Oakridge must be the favorites. They are deep in singles and nobody else appears to have a bunch of locks in singles.
ReplyDeleteIn 4.0, I have to go with Somabut. He may rest (and protect from the computer) his best players since he wrapped up the fall league but from what I have seen, he has the most firepower.
At 4.5, one should never bet against Branch & Company.
Arlington was a good tourney but there were no consolations for singles. I have never heard of a sactioned tourney with no consolations. There were some really disappointed players. There was this one guy who drove from Abilene who had to go home the same day.
ReplyDeleteJesus Aranda (3.5 player) lost in the quarters. I would have thought he would have gone straight to the finals. He is one of those players to watch for because when he is hot, he is really hot. Cory Davis (3.5 player) also played really good. He has a great forhand and his backhand is no longer a liability. He is really coming around. And did I mention he is fast and really athletic. He is an up and coming player.
Dutchover played great in the 4.0s. He is so athletic and get every ball back. You need to hit winners on him to get a point. He can run all day long.
The 4.5 final was a very interesting match because neither player hit out. It was a controlled chess game of cat-and-mouse.
Molina
Hello MOLINA. See you at practice this week-end. DP
ReplyDeleteI watched the whole 4.5 finals match from a hill near the courts and i'd have to say I disagree with the assessment of the final. Jelev played like he normally does which was very steady. He made very few unforced errors and consistantly hit the ball deep, but with no pace. Azhar started off the match blasting his forehand but got down early in the first set (4-1 I think) because Jelev was able to chase down almost every shot. After that point, the match changed when Azhar started rallying from the baseline with Jelev until Jelev gave him a short ball to put away.
ReplyDeleteIn that respect I guess the match was a cat-and-mouse chess match. However it seemed like every point ended with either Azhar hitting a winner or an unforced error, so I don't think I would agree with the statement that neither played hit out.
Marcus signs up with Lifetime 3.5 team. Should be a solid addition to an already good team.
ReplyDeleteIn that pool, I think it will come down to Lifetime and Oakridge. Those appear to be the best teams (maybe in all of 3.5).
ReplyDeletepretty much, there are couple of others I will mention tomorrow but those two definitely stick out in that flight. Kind of funny Marcus was deciding between two teams in the same flight.
ReplyDeleteI do think finishing first is important. The QT tourney is usually very tough since you have to beat quality teams just to play even more quality teams the following weekend.
Lifetime and Oakridge can bl()w me,
ReplyDeletelast time I checked it was garland and greenhill who were in the finals last year,
so we should probably start conversations there,
Lifetime, not in the playoffs
the "Oakridge boys" squeek in to the playoffs talking all kinds of trash and go "0 for 2",
And when did Jonathan become the Jesus Christ of 3.5 tennis?
Lifetime, Book your tickets to the nationals, You won the Lottery You got JONATHAN!!!!!!!Hallelujah
So who are the Sandbaggers in 3.5 this year?
ReplyDeleteHas anybody sleuthed any out yet,
Ryan Curren of Samuell Grand has had a couple impressive tournaments,
Anyone seen him play?
Late signing self rater for Garland VENTURA E DELAROSA, I don't know any thing about him except Garland has a ringer singles player every year and generally guys with foreign names are good tennis players.
I guess that this OC BL person is some sort of gay tennis groupie, since he wants Lifetime and Oak Ridge to bl()w him. Well I guess we'll all have to steer clear of whomever this is to avoid catching something, but I guess he's right about Garland and Greenhill. There are several good teams out there and of course let's not forget about Bender and his ability to find hidden
ReplyDeletegood players.
Bender's team looks VERY average this year. I have no idea what is happening there; his teams are usually incredibly strong. His 3.0 National Championship team appears to have left him and went elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteHP/Jameson is a spinoff of Bender's group he will still be involved I am sure so don't read too much into his collin county team, if anything he might be in the process of creating a 3.0 champ for 2009. You might notice he played three matches and lost all three rather convincingly. He is jonesing for another 3.0 nat trophy for next year.
ReplyDeleteCalm down Marc I was going to mention you guys tomorrow. Yikes we don't even have schedules yet. Oh and by the way I played Carlquist this week and his forehand is amazing but I would take yours in a second (you are my forehand hero)
ReplyDeleteRyan Curren seems alright but no ringer and the Garland late addition I was able to find on tennisinformation.com. He had some tourney results that were OK but anyone Manoutch can stretch to 3 sets is no ringer. (no offense Manoutch)
How about your two new ringers, I mean additions. Got a new Dewayne DQ Ahner this season.
We’re getting close to the start of the season, the schedules are being published and rosters are being finalized. In scanning the 3.5 rosters, all the teams look to be very competitive. There is one roster containing a name that really stands out that makes we wonder who the hell is this guy. He’s on the Oakridge 3.5 team and his name is Lakshminarasimhan V. Sampath. With a first name that long … watch out!
ReplyDeleteyep 3.5 is deep this year. I don't know about you John but it feels strange not playing 3.5 this spring. This will be the first Spring I haven't played 3.5 since I started playing league back in 2001.
ReplyDeleteI think there should be some great competition will happen at the level and hopefully a lot of bump ups for the fall league because I need some players I can beat. :)
