Glenn Flora DQ'ed

So it is true Glenn Flora has been DQ'ed. Sisk just reiterated that news to me that Jacques posted. Zack is sidelined but with Nats a little ways away he "should" be healed by then.

This is quite a blow to the Garland team because with the two of them together I might have called them a favorite but with just one or one slightly broken one they will have to claw just to get out of their flight.

I haven't even glanced at Nats teams and probably won't till we get closer to that but truly you never know until you get on the court, wins and losses can be deceiving at times.

I guess the question I pose is did the USTA handle this the right way this year by not reversing matches in the middle of sectionals. I can see an argument for both sides. I do feel for Lifetime because they know if the rules hadn't been changed since just last year they would most likely be headed to AZ.

Thoughts?

  1. I commend Flora for not attempting to sandbag his matches. I have no problems with it. That is the only thing that would have irked me. I would not be surprised if Mudsam received a DQ as well, or possibly even Andy & I, but I have no idea.

I still received a pretty cool glass tennis ball that I put up in my house already. It is what it is.

  3. USTA just seems real inconsistent. The ESR came out before sectionals and at that time they said Flora and Courtney for that matter had a dynamic rating high enough that they need to be playing 4.0, yet they don't DQ them from playing in sectionals. Now all of a sudden they decide they need to DQ for Nationals. If the DQ was going to come, they should of enforced it once the ESR came out.

  4. My first prediction is this. That by 8am Tuesday morning, there will be at least 60 comments on this thread. It might even set a record since there is obviously nothing else to talk about until probably the Texas Sectionals next month.

By the way, I'm sorry to hear that Glenn got DQ'ed. It sucks to be the catalyst for getting a team to Nationals and not being able to participate.

It also stinks that so MANY people hated on him without ever approaching him or getting a chance to talk to him.

I wonder how many people are going to sign their comments to this particular thread anonymous, or be man enough to finally list their names.

  5. a little surprised Davis has not gotten the boot yet also considering he rolled at Sectionals except against HOU.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Andy could get a DQ but I doubt it. He got beat pretty good by Molina and that should keep him safe.

Brian, you will be fine because you are computer rated. It takes alot more than what you did to get DQ'd... I know it is possible but still quite difficult.

Mudsam could potentially get a DQ. If not, he is dangerously close.

Harvey was in slight danger but his regular season results were not as good. Had he played more at cities and ran through folks like he did at sectionals, he could have been in danger. His early season injuries ended up being a blessing for Garland.

I thought Slemon from Gleneagles was treading dangerously close to the line as well.

I think Tuorto was also flirting with a DQ.

For those who care, I did not want Flora or anyone to be DQ'd. I guess that is not totally true... if he had been DQ'd before city playoffs, I would not have minded :) Since he made cities, I really hoped he would get to make the trip to Tucson.

  7. Another anon telling us how to cheat. Now doesn't that make sense?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Carey, it's not just the lifetime guys that should be sick about the DQ policy this year that let Flora play matches even after he struck out. It could have cost them a trip to nationals, maybe even a national championship. But let's not forget all the other teams that could say the same thing. Garland beat Midland, Austin, and Houston by scores of 3-2, so without Flora, any of those could have become losses, in which case Garland wouldn't have even won their flight. Then there's San Antonio in the semis, another 3-2 for Garland. So the way I see it, there are five teams that should be really hot about that policy right now. I guess there is no way to know who the real sectional champ would have been if he had been removed earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I for one feel any DQ should occur before sectionals as who ever wins at sectionals should be able to take the entire team as they are the ones that actually won the sectional. The winning team going to Nationals is not presenting the team that won their state. Besides if a team wins 3-2 due to the DQ and then can't take the DQ, the real winning team is the other team and they should go to Nationals as they represent a full team. And does not matter whether it is the 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 teams.

    ReplyDelete
  10. You know it amazes me that one of the HS basketball teams who won State, have had all their records removed due to having a player who did not qualify to play. I would think as adults that rule is even more important to reflect the rules of the game. For most parts a player does not get that much better as the season goes on ( & especially in only the 3-4 matches he plays in the league season), he starts out that way.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I think it was James who said it but I do think the issue with any of the DQ issues are the punishment and if the punishment for Glenn is the team gets to go to nationals then why not push the limit of the rules if the only person who suffers is Glenn. Sucks to be him.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Glenn may still go to nationals - he just gets to enjoy more beer this way.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nice values Anon. Also, your argument does not even make sense. You get DQ'd for being out of level, whatever formula they use to determine that

    ReplyDelete
  14. Is there a place to find out any other players that might have been DQ'ed at Sectionals. I doubt Glenn was the only one.

    ReplyDelete
  15. The USTA should run the NTRP computer every day at Sectionals and out-of-level players should be DQed immediately and matches won by DQed players should be reversed. That was how they did it last year.

It makes no sense to allow a team to win Sectionals playing illegal players and then allow that team to go on to Nationals. That just encourages cheating.

  20. DAVID PRATHER,
Delira sent you a open blog basically saying let's play and let's be friends. Well, I hope you now see what a piece of trash Delira really is.

He wants to be friends because he wants the Garland cheating controversary to all blow over. Delira and Noel have both been consistently lying about Flora and Courtney for many months _ trying to cover up for obvious cheating.

Flora played 6 matches against the best 3.5 players in Texas and did not have one match that was half-way competitive. Courntey would have been the same, but he was injured. You KNOW that was cheating, I know it was cheating and most everyone that reads this blog knows Garland cheated big time.

Now they just want to silence their critics and "let's be friends".

    ReplyDelete
  21. The problem with DQ only before Sectionals is that trash like Flora can slip through. All a captain has to do is play his ringer 3 times in local league doubles matches with a weak partner. Then some cheating SOB like Flora kills everyone at Sectionals.

    ReplyDelete
  22. someone please delete this. I have a 10 year old that reads this some times. thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  23. anon poster 8:33 am from Garland,

Please watch your language. That kind of talk is not necessary.

Your are from Garland and cheaters, when they are caught, always want the issues to go away.

If there is something here you sre not interested in _ don't read it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Valid Issue:
How do we avoid allowing obvious ringers from going to Nationals? If we do not DQ at Sectionals then guys like Flora get rewarded for cheating.

What is the best way to catch the cheaters???

    ReplyDelete
  25. To my obsessed Snot Jock hater...Dave and I have been friends before all this talk about Glenn Flora. You have no idea what you are a talking about and you certainly do not know me at all! Honestly, the more you blog the more of your loser mentality is exposed. I take it you must be someone I beat in a tournament and just still can't shake the loss. Come out and play! Leave your anon poster defense and maybe you might find out that the world is not out to get you! If not..seek mental help...you need it! Badly! Really! I am beginning to feel sorry for you to the point I have begun to pray for some sort of miracle healing of your hard and bitter heart! I hope it works! Oh! and guess what...The powers at be will be reversing the DQ for Glenn!

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is really funny . . .

We have seen blatent and flagrant cheating by Garland in using High School superstars on their 3.5 team. These were not just HS tennis players, but TOP GUNS on two of the top High School tennis programs in the country. (And yes, top players at these High Schools play at about a 4.5 level.)

Then we saw consistent lying especially by Noel and Delira to try & cover up. (They were trying to tell us that these guys really were not that good. Close practice matches, etc.)

Now Nancy Noel is whinning about anon postings. Well the problem is not anon positngs the problem was the cheating by Garland that cost LTF a trip to Nationals and the lying trying to cover up.

Other players from Garland now want to "move on" and discuss other issues. Cheaters always want to change the topic after they have gotten away with cheating.

Even now, we still just see lies and defiance from Garland.

Great to see one of their ringers DQed! Too bad it did not happen sooner.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Suggestion to USTA: Don't allow self-raters to compete in playoffs. Doesn't eliminate those who will intentionally tank a season to play under level but most self-raters try to play at their true level.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i dont see the point in complaining about something you can do nothing about. putting aside the "cheating" (which I put in quotes because it is REALLY "The thing that you can do nothing about this year", did you, personally, have fun this season? Did you meet some great people, play some wonderful tennis, and get some good exercise to remain healthy? Did YOU personally get some enjoyment out of playing tennis competitively on weekends?

Sometimes, I think, it is easy to blow things out of proportion. Maybe he sandbagged his matches, maybe he did not. We don't really know. And no matter how much we bitch about what has happened already, it is in the past and we can not do anything about it. Step back for a moment and breath. At some point you have to let it go. You are doing yourself no favors by holding onto this grudge. It is just making you, personally angry. Next Season is almost here already.

I know I had a great time this year, and our team made one heck of a run at it. I played some great matches, got to meet some great people, and my tennis game got better exponentially this year because I was competing to be the best. I was and still am disappointed that we did not make it to nationals. But, it is now Tuesday, and I am almost over it.

Being way out of level is not right. If you think someone is way out of level, turn in a protest. I honestly would have turned one in on Flora if I had seen him play. Nothing against Flora. I like him. He is a great player, but I sure would have turned one in. And if he passes, he passes. I had done all I could do.

Once it has gone to the point of no return, there is no point to still bitching. You are only hurting yourself and causing yourself grief. Let it go. It is next year. The nice thing is for me personally is, I will be a 4.0 this year, and it will be harder to slide unknown players through.

Sit back, smoke a nice cigar, and remember what you, personally, POSITIVELY got out of playing in the league.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The question I have is how would Glen Flora have done against some of the 3.5 guys that have real good tournament records like Pedro Ruiz and Scott Alpard? Both Pedro and Scott have lost only one tournament match this year and are at the high end of 3.5 and will be competitive at 4.0 next year. If Flora would likely beat these guys 0-0 or 1-1, then he is clearly way out of level and deserves the DQ. By the way, I agree that those people who post anonymously should not be allowed access to this web site. If you are not man enough to sign your name, then you really have no business in commenting. What are you afraid of? Mike Getz

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why would you let a 10 year old see how adults act like children? I don't think this site is a good example AT ALL of how grown people are supposed to behave.

And finally, Flora (assuming you are poster 833 am), the proper coding is STFU.

    ReplyDelete
  31. If he was in my division, and I saw him tanking matches, I would have made sure that whomever he played, he beat them 1 and 0. And I would have told the other captains to do the same.

    ReplyDelete
  32. bmo,

You are a great guy and you make some very good points.

I'll make one last comment and then I'll not bring it up again.

What bothers me more that the obvious out-of-level players was the guys on this blog lying to try to cover things up. I guess we can't expect even a minimum amount of integrity from some of these guys. Live & learn . . .we certainly found out a lot about the character of Noel and Delira from the blog exchanges.

    ReplyDelete
  33. For future potential sandbaggers. Use this as an example. If Flora WAS sandbagging matches, then what did Flora get out of this, this year?

if he did, he played non competitive matches all season, then couldn't play at Nationals. This would be an example of why you would want to be at your appropriate level. I am not saying that he did sandbag. Maybe his matches this season were really competitive. But if they weren't, then he wasted a whole season of playing boring matches.

    ReplyDelete
  34. A future potential sandbagger would learn from Flora's example
and keep the scores closer, so that
they win but don't raise any flags.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I dont get it, why all the hate towards Flora and Garland? How is Lifetime any different? They had there "ringer" in Mudsum at the end of the season, QT, city's and for one day at sectionals. He only lost once during the whole time and that was a close match against Flora 4, and 5 in the city's. They were both way out of level yet only hate is spewed towards Flora and Garland... Not to mention that 90% of the Lifetime team all got bumped to 4.0, so based on that maybe Mudsum wasnt the only one playing "out of level"...

    ReplyDelete
  36. There were 4 or 5 guys out of level. Flora was just the farthest out of level. Mudsan was very good, but so was Tuorto and Curren. Mudsam did have class though taking his daughter to Austin. He had the right priority. The are all probably terrific guys and MAY have been put in bad positions, who knows? JMO - BK GH

  37. I am so impressed at your ability to judge my character based on my comments on a tennis blog...You are just an outstanding and incredible person based on all your comments..wow...now please..go back and pick up your crack pipe that you dropped next to your computer key board!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Garland vs Life Time?
    1) Mudsam certainly was a very good player but Flora was by far the best. Flora played 6 times at Sectionals and none of the matches were competitive.

    2) But the big reason people come down on Garland and not Life Time is because of Noel and Delira. When LTF was criticized, LTF remained silent and accepted the comments. Garland, esp Noel and Delira, just lied about their players trying to defend and justify what they did. (They were really not that good, close matches in practice, other cities will have players just as good, etc.) And it was all crap and we all knew it. It just says worlds about their lack of integrity.

When you put High School superstars on your 3.5 team you have to EXPECT criticizm. And you should be smart enought to shut your mouth. Rather than lie _ especially when it is only a matter of time before your lies are exposed. Everytime Noel & Delira opened their mouth they just made more people upset with Garland. (And several of us have talked about that offline.)

And I predict Noel & Delira will keep this going with some more arrogant and obnoxious comments.

Actually, I think John is a very good guy. But the other two are easy to hate _ and that rubs off on Garland.

  39. Here we go again. None of you guys know me and personally I would like to keep it that way. I played #2 in my high school seven years ago and now I'm a 4.5 player. By the way, my high school was consistently last in the district or close and sucked. High school tennis means absolutely nothing. As somebody else posted, regardless of how good you were, if you don't hold a racket for 5+ years, you have no game.
I think Glen's scores clearly showed early in the season that he was a high 3.5, including his loss v. High Point. Don't use the tanking argument because I don't think somebody is going to tank a match by losing by two points in a third-set TB. Why not lose 2 and 2?
I agree with BMO. Let's set up the match between Glen and Forrest, I will be happy to set it up since I have both of their contact info. If Glen wins, then he is obviously a 4.5 player, if not, then he's not. I have never claimed that Glen is not a 4.0 player now, but his results steadily improved over the season making him a medium 4.0 now.
Finally, if you look up the records of the various Garland players from two years ago to today, I think you will see a big improvement in the majority of them. This reflects the hard work and practice that all of them put in and they should be proud of their accomplishments.
I am glad they are representing Texas at Nationals and I expect them to play hard and do well with or without Flora.
And, do you really think my "lies and denials" are the reason you guys keep posting? Forrest doesn't even know this blog exists and you guys haven't stopped attacking him all season. I'm not going to sit back and let you guys attack the character of people you don't even know, especially when I know you're wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Cory, you are crazy! Floras only loss was in dbls. wasn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'd rather see Forrest v. Nancy.

    ReplyDelete
  42. If you come out to our team practice I'm sure that match will occur soon. Yes, Glen's loss was in 3.5 doubles. Are you suggesting that a 4.5 superstar in singles would lose in 3.5 doubles? Not Glen. He is unbeatable and could never lose to any 3.5 player on the planet right?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nancy Noel,

    You are truly an ass!

When you play #2 singles for Highland Park High School (Zack Courtney) _ yes it DOES mean you played at about at 4.5 level at that time. Same goes for Flora who played #1 singles both Jr and Sr year at one of the top tennis programs in Indiana.

Does not matter if they haven't played in a few years. Young guys VERY QUICKLY get their game back.

Those guys had no business playing 3.5 and you are lair. Those are the facts!

You deserve all the negative coomments that come your way. And Garland violated the standards of good conduct and fair play. They deserve all the criticism that comes their way.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Cory, you're the one who kept mentioning Floras loss, but not once did you say it was in dbls. He would show up as a ringer much more in dbls., if he were to go all out. Just shut up your coverup talking and let it all go. You are totally exposed for who you are by all that you've said, so there's nothing more you can do, but to just shut up!

    ReplyDelete
  45. My college coach Bryan Whitt, look him up on the ATP website, has a 6.0 rating from less than 10 years ago. He could not be competitive at the 4.5 level now. Zack was a champ player. He never played at the Super Champ level. Champs do not equal 4.5. For you to use as your argument that they played high level high school tennis is ridiculous. Half of the people that played high school tennis couldn't hit the ball today. My dad played #1 for his high school team in the 70s so maybe he should self-rate at 4.5.

    ReplyDelete
  46. 8/8 - 8/10 Flora played 6 matches at Sectionals and slaughtered 6 of the best 3.5 players in Texas. NOT A SINLGE MATCH WAS COMPETITIVE. In fact, he did not lose more than 1 game in any of the first sets. (Yes, he did slow done the pace and played easier in the 2nd sets when he knew he had the match in hand.)

Are we to believe that he was not way out of level on 6/28 (when he tanked a match against HP) and that he magically improved so much in SIX WEEKS?

The lies just get continue . . .

    ReplyDelete
  47. Cory, are you related to Norris Johnson? It seems you are.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Nancy,
Your college coach is not relevant here. Sure there are plenty of people that played HS or college that cannot play well today. BUT COURTNEY & FLORA ARE BOTH OUTSTANDING PLAYERS AND THEY ARE FAR, FAR OUT OF LEVEL AT 3.5. They were both star players on two of the best HS teams in the country. They played at a VERY high level not too long ago. They are both young and athletic. If they are rusty, they will get their "A" games back very quickly.

Flora was very properly DQed and should have been DQed earlier. Courtney would have been DQed but got injured and could not show off his talent.

It was clearly wrong for them to play 3.5. And you are an ass because you lie to defend them.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Changing the SUBJECT: (because, if they aren't going to get it, they aren't going to get it)

How many players do you think you should have on your 4.0 team this year? the way they did the schedule last year, it seems that if your have more than about 14 players, you are asking to have a lot of unhappy tennis players.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It seems to me that finding players who are capable of playing a level or two above their self rating is the way to go.... The captain of the team just has to be smart enough to put the players in the right position to not be DQ'd. I know it sounds awful but everybody does is and the one's that don't win complain about it even though they do it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. in fact, it seems that maybe more than 13 might be too many. Certainly, you would not have more than 5 players not able to play any given week?

    ReplyDelete
  52. I see that Bartlet has 16 players already. Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think you guys are just cutting and pasting your old posts. Are you even real or robots? Since Glen got DQ'ed, why is this still an issue? You're saying he should have been DQ'ed, he got DQ'ed, case closed. I acknowledged that he was a mid-4.0 now and that's it. Zack has not played a match since Tosha acknowledged that he was a legitimate 3.5. All of these complaints are problems with the USTA, not with me or Garland. Had the self-rating forms not recommended these two guys to play 3.5, they would have joined the Garland 4.0 team.

Now go ahead and post the same verbatim comments again.

    ReplyDelete
  54. If you have 7 matches, you have 56 slots to fill during a season. That means that with 14 players, everybody gets 4 matches. Paying $40 for fewer than four matches seems like quite a waste. But at the same time, I know from experience it's pretty tough to avoid defaults with only 14 players. 16-18 is always my target number.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Cory's a nice guy. He gets much more criticizm than is warranted. Personally, I don't see the level of arrogance or ignorance in Cory's posts that fuel most of the anti-Cory posts.

I think there are a lot more pressing issues in the tennis arena that are worth more time than ridiculing a guy who probably has never intentionally wronged anyone on this blog or insulted them, except in self defense.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Noaman,
The issue is that Garland 3.5 had a few guys ridiculously out of level and everyone knows it. Yet Corey constantly lied, made excuses, and tried to defend Garland's poor sportsmanship.

I think one good thing coming from all these posts is that people can see what kind of person Corey really is.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Where can I find a list of DQ'ed players from this year? I heard about Flora getting DQ'ed, so I wondered who else might be on that list

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have only used Corey's own words to indict the man. It's true, I don't think he even realizes how his crap comes across, such as "...and I made 5 semifinals in a row..." He just posts about himself and his results quite a bit, and I for one think that's bad form. Plain and simple. Good score with Dante though, and good result making the final.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I wouldn't have to make posts like that if I wasn't constantly being attacked. Either way, you should be able to separate the blog persona from the real persona. Just like I assume that all of you guys aren't assholes in real life.

Welcome to the blog Noaman and thanks for the kind words. I hope we meet up in the blog tourney.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hey Noel, Bryan Whitt does suck. Did you play on the Ut-tyler team the first season they had a team in 2001?

    ReplyDelete
  61. No. He transferred to UTD around 2004 and I played for him for 3 seasons. I think he is a great coach but I couldn't believe he had ATP points. He's put on probably 100 pounds and can't serve. Somebody tried to sign him up for a 4.5 team (I don't know why), but he couldn't because he had a 6.0 rating. I'm sure he was a great player at one time but far from it now.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sisk according to you, the whole point to all of this is who can cheat the best and get to Nationals, from your own mouth. Every player, for the most part improves and thereby will be somewhat out of level by the end of the year, but in your case with Oberto from last fall, Flora and Courtney this is not a simple case of improving; it's a case of abusing the rules. You are a cheat! So what if everyone else is doing it, just try to do it right and if you make it great if you don't, at least you did it the right way

  69. The Noel bashing has gotten out of hand.

    ReplyDelete
  70. HAha Noel see if you can get Whitt to come clean on his big ATp point. If he won't, the real story is the coach at ut-tyler ran a pro tournament, and he had played on the tour for awhile. Whitt kissed up and got the guy to give him a doubles wildcard to the main draw, where they got crushed. Thats how he has the 1 ATp point. he was unable to make the lineup at ut-tyler so he tried to become the coach. he was not liked at UTT. Theres quite a few more Whitt stories, just ask Brouer.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Corey is not a bad guy. Sometimes he just doesn't know when to shutup. His comments over the past month trying to defend the Garland 3.5 ringers just were not believable. Most everyone knows he was not being totally honest in that regard. Hopefully lesson learned!

    ReplyDelete
  72. He Deserved it. It will blow over if he lets it blow over. All he has to do is not answer. He did try to blow a lot of smoke up people's azz though.

  78. Anon 8:15 pm _ AWESOME list!!!

Let's add SNOTjock Delira as an honorable mention. He has a rep for being arrogant and obnoxious _ and his posts seem to support that.

  79. I think all of us on the list should go out and celebrate our awesomeness!! Since all we do is talk about ourselves we should never be short on conversation.

  80. whats up w/ the "teenager" part of Smith? I don't know the guy and so I thought I would ask.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Teenager: Lots of enthusiasm, lots of "c'mons," lots of fist pumps, very vocal, and very gay! Play him sometime and you'll know. Pickett's normalcy and good nature offsets it though, so it's not too bad.

  82. Plus, if Joel's wife shows up, you won't even notice Doug.

  83. Wow...um I am ah-just shocked that the USTA would DQ him at this point in time. They should have at least let him finish out the season. That's like letting Michael Phelps get his relay team to the final, and then he is abruptly removed.

    Unfair in my opinion.

  84. By the way Glenn, hats off to ya. I had fun playing matches here and there aginst you in the dreaded heat! lol You've definitely helped my game improve, especially on the mental note.

And for Garland teams, you guys rock. Always cordial and hospitible. And the whole controversy about Phil is just a joke really. Definitely on of the nicest and genuine guy to ever grace this planet.

Good Luck in the Nationals Sisk aka BIG JOHN!

  88. Dain, why do I gotta be a jerk Anon. What has Glenn done to have all this negativity surrounding him. If I were him, i'd think about hiring a couple of body lguards to fend of this mob squad.

Like Al Queda in the middle east, we have An Onymous on this blog.

  89. Sisk,

We would have dumped our team and joined yours b-4 the season started if we had known that you would be the one to go to nats, but we thought our team would go. I know that sounds stupid but it's true!!! You might say we figured it out early that you were for real. Thats when we started sucking on sour grapes. We are being up front with you now when we say GOOD LUCK AT NATIONALS AND GO GET 'EM!!!!

    Signed,

    Ed R. and David P.
